Thomas H. Sellingham, Sr.

SellinghamkidsellinghamHUDSON FALLS – Thomas H. Sellingham, Sr., 79, of G. Roswell Earl Towers passed away on Friday, March 18, 2016, at the Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on October 10, 1936, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Elmer and Marion (Thomas) Sellingham.

Tom served proudly in the United States Navy, 6 out of his 8 years in active duty as a Seabee.  During his time of service, he was involved with Korea and Vietnam.  In Vietnam as a Seabee his unit was in charge of protecting the airfields.

Upon his leaving active service, Tom worked as a foreman at Hercules and Finch Pruyn, before starting the job he loved, as tour bus driver for Upstate Transit.

Tom was a life member of the Hudson Falls American Legion, Post 574, where he was past commander, Captain of the Color Guard and CHEF DE GARE, 40/8, a charter member of the Seabee Veterans of American, and a member of the Island X14.  He was also a past member of the Fort Edward Rescue Squad, Inc. as well as the Moreau Emergency Squad.  Tom served many years with the Red Cross as a disaster response person.

He enjoyed camping, but his main passion was hunting.  He was president of many different hunting clubs, and even started one of his own.

Tom is survived by his wife, Connie (LaPoint) Sellingham of Hudson Falls; his nine children, Debra Ford of Hudson Falls, Thomas Sellingham, Jr. and his significant other, Kathy Whaley of Fort Ann, Dianna Peltier and her husband, William of Lake Luzerne, Jon Sellingham of Hudson Falls, Daniel Sellingham of Arizona, Timothy Sellingham of Hudson Falls, Tammy LaPlant and her significant other, Duwayne Elms of Glens Falls, James LaPlant of South Glens Falls and Matthew LaPlant and his wife, Clara of South Glens Falls; 19 Grandchildren, including his special granddaughter Tori Phillips; 17 Great Grandchildren; his two sisters, Jean Freebern of Arlington, Vermont and Diane Edwards and her husband, Richard of Glens Falls; his sister in law, Ann Taylor of Hudson Falls and many beloved nieces and nephews and his special niece, Johna Ferry of Hudson Falls.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 P.M. on Wednesday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

American Legion Post 574 will conduct services at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and the Seabee Veteran’s of America will follow with a service.

Burial with full military honors provided by American Legion Post 574 of Hudson Falls. will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in the town of Stillwater.

Memorial donations in Tom’s memory may be made to American Legion Post 574 of Hudson Falls, 72 Pearl St., Hudson Falls, NY 12839 or the charity of one’s choice.

A gathering will be held from on Thursday from at 3  p.m. at American Legion Post 574 on Pearl St. in Hudson Falls.
