HUDSON FALLS – Shirley M. (Lindsay) Carlisle, 92, formerly of Oak Street, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at the Fort Hudson Health Care Facility in Fort Edward.
Born on February 5, 1925, in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late James and Clara (LaFarr) Lindsay.
Shirley’s first husband, Milton L. Carlisle, was killed at the Battle of the Bulge in WWII. Following the death of her husband, she married Harold A. Carlisle, who passed away on January 24, 1996.
Family was the center of her life. Shirley devoted her time and energy to raising her seven children. She enjoyed traveling with her sisters. They along with her brother, were her best friends. Shirley loved to dance at every party. She was very social and known for being the life of the party. Shirley had a wonderful sense of humor and was known to give advice from time to time. Anyone that knew her loved her.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by her son, Michael Lindsay Carlisle, her two grandchildren, Todd Carlisle and Terry “Tee” Bartholomew. Shirley was the last of her five siblings, Marge Nichols, Violet LaFarr, Lorraine Mahan, Thomas Lindsay and Bud Lindsay, all passed away before her.
Shirley is survived by her six children, Stephen Carlisle and Carollee of Saratoga Springs, Jeffrey Carlisle and his wife, Mary Ann of Hudson Falls, Martha Bartholomew and her husband, Terry of Arcadia, FL, Mary Lanfear and her husband, Michael of Lake George, David Carlisle and Linda of Glens Falls and Suzanne Casey and her husband, Joe of Hudson Falls; her nine grandchildren, Greg Carlisle, Shemeriah Carlisle, Katie Phillips, Mary Lynn McIntosh, Kim Haley, Scott Bartholomew, Melissa Lanfear, Alex Lanfear and Colten Thomas; her 11 great grandchildren; her special devoted nieces, Sandra Galvin and Karen Mahan; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and her former daughter in law, Diana Carlisle.
Calling hours will be tonight, Thursday, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Friday, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls.
The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.
