SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Leona Beatrice (Baker) Dashnaw, 90, passed peacefully into the loving arms of our Lord on Friday, July 1, 2016, with her son at her side, after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
Lee was born on August 17, 1925 in Tupper Lake, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Rose (Lancto) Baker.
Lee grew up and graduated from Tupper Lake High School (Rah-Rah-Rah). She met the love of her life, George “Ernie” Dashnaw, Sr. from Lyon Mountain and they married on July 6, 1946, and lived in Hudson Falls. They eventually built their house and settled in South Glens Falls in 1960, where they raised their 4 children.
She was employed by General Electric Co in Hudson Falls, retiring from there after 26 years.
Lee enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family and taking care of her home and hosting parties.
Leona was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls where she and her husband served as a Eucharistic Ministers for many years.
Lee will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, George “Niss” Dashnaw, Sr. on October 25, 2007, her two daughters, Cynthia “Cindy” Durkee on July 11, 1985 and Cheryl “Sherry” Lynn Winney on April 30, 1996, her eight brothers and sisters, Florence, Dorothy, Truman, Irene, Helen, Doris, Betty and Robert and her son in law James Pollack on December 17, 2003.
Her survivors include her daughter, Lucretia “Keesa” Anne Pollack and her companion, Charles Waski of Delaware; her son, George “Ernie” Dashnaw, Jr. and his fiancé, Lori Paddock of South Glens Falls; her eight grandchildren, Lori Mercure and her husband, Brian, Joanne Cooper and her husband, Tim, Jennifer Senecal, who is also their god-daughter who they liked to call “Jeffiner”, Julie Weirich, Rob Winney and his companion Shari Keegan, Bernie Winney, Jr. and his wife, Tanya, George Dashnaw, III and his wife, Sarah and Benjamin Dashnaw and his wife, Kristin; her 16 great grandchildren, Amber Lindgren, Ashley, Matthew and Morgan Mercure, Gabrielle and Seth Cooper, Tyler Backus and Emily LaPan, Shawn and Jessica Weirich, Rob Winney, Jr., Kara Rose and Michael Dashnaw and Benjamin, II and Brody Dashnaw; and her three great-great grandchildren, Austin Wells, Aiden Lindgren and James Martin Backus; she is also survived by a special nephew, Allen Trombley; her sister in law Linette LaBarge; and many nieces, nephews and cousins; and her very special friend and caregiver, Sherry Jay.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 on Friday, at the Carleton funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Michael the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls, with the Reverend Tony Childs, pastor, officiating.
Rite of Committal will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.
Following the Rite of Committal all are welcome to a reception at the fellowship hall at St. Michael’s Church.
Pall Bearers will be George Dashnaw, III, Benjamin Dashnaw, Robert Winney, Sr., Bernard Winey, Jr., Benjamin Dashnaw, II and Timothy Cooper.
