HUDSON FALLS – Anthony Joseph Trello , Sr., 80, of Hudson Falls passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2014, at the Glens Falls Hospital.
Born January 10, 1934, in Hudson Falls, he was the son of the late Guy and Mary (Campagnone) Trello.
He attended St. Mary’s Elementary School in Hudson Falls and graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1951, where he excelled in football, basketball, and track. He was voted All-Conference First by area coaches, The Post Star, and area player opponents. He met his life long loving wife, Jean, from St. Mary’s Academy in Glens Falls in 1949. Tony attended the now Suny Cortland in 1952 where he played football and varsity wrestling. In 1953, Tony joined his father and mother in their family businesses, Trello’s Market and Trello’s Apartments. The market was open in Hudson Falls for 87 years and the apartment business is still open.
In February 1953 he married the love of his life, and high school sweetheart, Jean M. DelSignore Trello. They brought up three wonderful children, Cynthia, Anthony Jr., and Terri Lee. They had eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He always felt that God blessed them all. Tony loved salesmanship and was a licensed stockbroker and life insurance and real estate associate.
In 1962 Tony coach little league football in South Glens Falls, they finished second in their league. Also in 1962, Tony partnered with his boyhood friend, Mike Simione, to restart after a 10 year lapse and incorporate the Hudson Falls Greenjackets, where he owned, played, and then coached. They brought great games to Hudson Falls and had great winning records. Tony and his wife loved to travel especially to Italy, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and to New York City Broadway plays. He also enjoyed attending Yankees games and Giants games. The Green Bay Packers were his favorite team. Tony loved boating and water skiing on Lake George, where he and his wife have a summer home on Assembly Point. He also loved snow skiing in Vermont. In 1998, the Hudson Falls Greenjacket football team inducted him into the their hall of fame and in 2007, was nationally inducted into the Minor League Football Hall of Fame at Mesquite, Nevada in the Played Coach category.
Beside his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Guy, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Survivors include his loving wife of over 60 years, Jean Trello of Hudson Falls; his children, Cynthia Trello Chard and her companion, John Brown, Anthony J. Trello Jr. and his wife, Tammy, Terri Lee Trello Flewelling and her fiancée, James Lemery; his 8 grandchildren, Jesica and her husband, Travis Turner, Tom Chard II, Jasmine Krusko , Todd Chard, Anthony M. Trello, Elicia Trello, Desirae Flewelling, Nathan Flewelling; his great grandchildren, Tyler and Paul Krusko, Emily Turner, Anthony J. Trello III and Brayden Flewelling.
Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 P.M. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.
A private burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
Tony’s family suggests that memorial donations in his memory be made to the Charles R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital, 100 Park St., Glens Falls, NY 12801.
