GANSEVOORT – Ella Frances McGowan, 89 of Gansevoort, passed away Wednesday morning, October 2nd, 2024 at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home after a very brief illness.

Born on March 23rd, 1935, in Ballston Spa, NY. She was the daughter of the late William and Myrtle Bolton. Ella was raised by Ma (Mary) and Pa (Jimmy) Smith. She often spoke of the fond memories she had with her siblings on the farm. She married the late Edward Charles McGowan on April 26, 1953 and while raising her family became a lifelong area resident of Gansevoort, NY.

Ella was a quiet woman who lived a simple life and was very grateful for her family and friends. She was a very compassionate person especially for those in need. Throughout her years she provided exceptional care to her loved ones. In doing so she became known as that person who you wanted help from. Many families reached out to her knowing their loved ones would be taken care of with dignity and love. They all would become cherished friends embedded in her heart.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her brothers; William Bolton, Charles Bolton, Samuel Bolton, Robert Bolton, Herbert Tuttle, sisters; Betty Hempstead and Elizabeth Bolton. Her good friend, Louise Groome, who she loved and missed dearly.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons; Edward McGowan Jr. of Gansevoort, William (Teryl) McGowan of Gansevoort, Kim (Kelli) McGowan of Glens Falls, a (son from another mother) Patrick Stacavich of Houston, TX, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, siblings; Tom Tuttle and Louise Price and several nieces and nephews.

Ella’s favorite pastime was Bingo. The family would like to acknowledge her good friend, Barb Bahida for being her bingo buddy. The time you spent together was so special and gave her such pleasure!

Lastly, Ella’s family would like to thank all the staff at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home for the exceptional care they provided Ella during her illness and will be forever grateful. Also, to Jean O’Neil for her compassion and comfort she provided not only to Ella during this difficult time but to her family as well.

GLENS FALLS – June M. Benway, 78, of Warren Street, passed away at home, on Thursday, September 26, 2024, following a long illness. She was surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 2, 1946, in Oklahoma.

Throughout her life, June was employed at various local retail businesses which included, Robinson’s Laundry in South Glens Falls, Zarye’s department store in Queensbury, and Ames in Hudson Falls.

June married David V. Benway on July 1, 2006, at City Park in Glens Falls and spent the next eighteen years together.

She was a pool (billiards) enthusiast and captain of the pool teams at Libations and Park Street. She loved watching old tv shows such as, Gun Smoke. June was a huge fan of Elvis Presley and just adored him. She was devastated the day he died. June absolutely loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Anyone who knew June, and went to her house to visit, will tell you her walls and shelves were covered with photos of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

June is predeceased by her son, Richard “Richie” Wendell, Jr. and her grandson, Dylan S. Steenken.

She is survived by her husband, Dave Benway of Glens Falls; her daughters, Mary Steenken of South Glens Falls, Kim Wendell of Hudson Falls, and Candy (Steve) Matthews of Gansevoort; her grandchildren, Jessica Wendell of Lake George, Jasmine Wendell of Fort Edward, Alexis (Duane) Evans of Kentucky, Brandan (Jennifer) Creeden of Indiana, Marissa Steenken of Japan, Felecia (Angel) Civitello of Hudson Falls, Harold LaFountain, IV  of Granville, Jeff (Annissa) Wendell of Glens Falls, Dawn (Steven) Petteys of Granville, Stephen Matthews of Gansevoort, and Kristi Matthews of Lake George; and twenty two great-grandchildren. June is also survived by her dear friends Carol Russell and Flossie Hobbs.

QUEENSBURY – Jeanne R. “Jean” Gregory, 72, of Corinth Road, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at her home following a short battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Born October 23, 1951, in Glens Falls, Jean was the daughter of the late Brent and Violet (Lynn) Haviland.

Jean was a 1970 graduate of Queensbury High School.

On November 28, 1970, Jean married the love of her life, Lance Gregory in Queensbury at Our Lady of Annunciation. She and Lance spent the next 54 years together taking care of each other and their children, Stacey, Christy, and Ronnie.

Jean was a hard worker. She was employed in the insurance industry for many years. She worked as an underwriter for Continental Insurance and then Traveler’s Insurance. Following her retirement from Traveler’s, Jean continued to keep busy working. She worked for House Calls pharmacy in Glens Falls where she loved her co-workers. She also enjoyed working for her special niece Stephanie at Cedar & Pearl where she was with other family members.

In her younger days, Jean loved riding on the back of Lance’s motorcycle taking in the fresh air, beautiful scenery, and spending quality time with the man she loved. Jean looked forward to going out to breakfast whenever she was able to. She also attempted golfing at Wedgewood in Fort Edward on Sundays. She never gave up on her swing.

Jean had a talent for sewing and enjoyed being the family’s personal seamstress.  She loved working on crafts and took great pride in her garden. She adored baking, especially when her grandchildren were involved. Jean loved spending time outside in the sun, sitting by the pool during the summer. She also enjoyed taking trips to York Maine sitting by the ocean.

Her husband, children, grandchildren and family were the sparkling lights in Jean’s eyes. No matter what the situation was, Jean always supported her children.  She adored her grandchildren. Jean was her grandkids biggest cheerleader.  She loved going to Alyssa’s horse shows, barrel races, and rodeos.  She also loved going to Ayden’s football and soccer games.  Sometimes she’d go to both Alyssa and Ayden’s events in the same day. Family gatherings, especially birthdays and Christmas were very important to Jean, she looked forward to family spending time together.

Jean will always be remembered as the glue that held the family together.

Jean is predeceased by her parents, Brent and Violet (Lynn) Haviland, her in-laws Edgar and Wilimina (Betty) Gregory, Bruce Gregory, and Wilimina Oddy.

Left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Lance Gregory; her children, Stacey Gregory (Mandy), Christy Gregory (Steve Mulcahy), and Ronnie Gregory; her grandchildren, Alyssa Mulcahy (Jake Lunt) and Ayden Gregory. Jean is also survived by her siblings, Nancy Guizik (Steve), Butchy Haviland (Cindy), and Tommy Haviland (Nancy); her in-laws, Debbie (Brent) Witheral, Pam (Bob) Hayes, Della Gregory, Kate (Hane) King, Lori Gregory, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2024, from 2pm to 4pm at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls, New York.

A funeral service will take place at 11:30 am on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the funeral home. Jeanne will be laid to rest at Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery located at 200 Duell Road in Schuylerville New York, following the funeral service.

The family is very thankful to the Fort Ann EMS for making it possible for Jean to be at home where she wanted to be. Jeans family will be forever grateful to them for their compassion and willingness to bring Jean home. They will always remember their last week together as a family.

GLENS FALLS – Dianne L. Godfrey, 75, of Glens Falls, passed away, following many years of heart complications on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Albany Medical Center.

Born on May 28, 1949, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Charles Henry and Doris Caroline (Winn) Godfrey Jr.

Dianne attended Big Cross School in Glens Falls and graduated from Argyle Central School in 1968. She worked for Sherwood Medical and Mallinckrodt in Argyle. Following Mallinckrodt’s shut down, Dianne went to work for Price Chopper and retired in 2011.

She was a member of the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church where she took on many service duties. Dianne served as a worship leader, scripture reader, and led the Tuesday morning bible study group. She was also a proud member of the United Methodist Women and assisted with the “back to school bash”.

Dianne loved to read books based on faith and spirituality. Her favorite writers were American Christian authors, Karen Kingsbury and Beverly Lewis. Dianne loved taking pictures every chance she had, especially pictures of her pets.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brother, Joel Godfrey.

Survivors include her sons, Rodney (Jen) Garvin of Glens Falls and Robert Garvin of Hudson Falls; her sister, Lynne Pelkey of PA; and her ten grandchildren, Mason Turner, Shelby Turner, Carly Barella, Allissa Garvin, Trinity Turner, Mikenzie Garvin, Brendan Turner, Bryce Garvin, Gage Garvin, and Aubrey Turner. Dianne is also survived by Jessica Zabawa who was like a daughter, and several niece’s nephews, cousins, and her fur baby, Spanky.

HUDSON FALLS – Harold D. McKittrick, 80, of Hudson Falls, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, September 18, 2024.

Born on September 9, 1944 in Glens Falls, he grew up in Salem, NY and was the son of the late Robert McKittrick, Sr. and the late Grace (Colve) McKittrick.

Harold worked in many jobs over the years at  local companies such as Whitehall Plywood, Essity in Greenwich, where he was a forklift operator, and we worked for the Washington County DPW. On August 1, 1984 he married Sherry Gordon in Fort Edward and they enjoyed 40 years of marriage together.

Harold loved fishing, playing his guitar, listening to Johnny Cash, gardening, and spending time with his kids.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a daughter, Josie; his sister, Barb; two brothers, Richard and Robert, Jr.; and his niece, Barbie Jean.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry of Hudson Falls; his children, Lisa Wood, Tammy McKittrick, Harold McKittrick, Brian McKittrick, Jen McKittrick, Angela Allen, Daniel McKittrick, Betty Rock, Josh McKittrick, Alex McKittrick, Peggy McKittrick, and Jesse McKittrick; his brother, Gary Lee and Donald “Jerry”; his sisters, Dorothy and Shirley; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

GLENS FALLS – Katherine J. Root, 82, devoted mother, grandmother, and wife, passed away peacefully with her family at her side early Saturday morning, September 21, 2024 at the Glens Falls Hospital, after a short illness.

Born on October 13, 1941, in Tupper Lake, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Bernadette (Sovey) VanArnum.

Katherine was a graduate of Tupper Lake High School.

On February 20, 1959, she married Terry Root at St. Mary’s Church in Tupper Lake.

Katherine was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church for many years and more recently a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls.

She enjoyed reading books, making clothes for her children and gardening, but most of all tending to her home and taking care of her family were the center of her life.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sister, Susan Brown.

She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Terry Root of Glens Falls; her children, Lisa Jacoby and her husband, Jake of Georgia, Terry P. Root and his wife, Jodi of Hudson Falls, and Bryan C. Root and his fiancé Amy Engle of Glens Falls; her grandchildren, Kristen Bush and her husband, Jake of Fort Edward and Leah Root of Hudson Falls; her sister, Barbara Dumas of Hudson Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A memorial service will follow the calling hours at 12:00 pm at the funeral home.

QUEENSBURY – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marcia Anne Tyminski of Queensbury NY. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. 

Marcia is the second daughter of her wonderful parents Elsie Hogan and Joseph Brennan. As a child she loved to ride horses and was a member of 4H. She developed a passion for gardening from her father. A passion she has passed on to her daughter Kerri. She attended St Mary’s Academy and graduated from Queensbury High School in 1970.

While in high school she met the love of her life Thomas J Tyminski, “The Rock”. They married in 1972 and had two daughters, Kerri and Haley. Marcia worked for the Glens Falls City school district for twenty years. She took great pride in making sure that no one went hungry and that they got home safety. She loved to work in her gardens which were the envy of the neighborhood. She had many other hobbies as well. Her home was always perfectly decorated, she was a master at making crafts for every season, she knew where to dig for the best old bottles and could make the most beautiful clothes for her grandchildren.  

Most of all Marcia loved spending time with her family and friends. Every holiday was spent around her pool or dining room table. At Christmas time you could barely see the tree in the living room. She also had many dear friends. They would meet up at The Tavern for some serious fun. She especially loved the time she spent planning parties or other events with best friend of 50 years June Girard Wodell. 

Marcia is survived by her sister Karen Mousseau and her husband Tim of Glens Falls; her two daughters, Kerri (Ted) Breen of Queensbury and Haley (Scott) Gilligan of Glens Falls; her two grandchildren, whom she adored more than anything, Elsie Breen and Rose Gilligan; her niece, Heather (Eric) LaCoppala of Saratoga and their children, and her nephew Brian (Christine) Mousseau of Queensbury and their children.

Marcia will be remembered for her kindness, compassion and generosity. We will never forget her wonderful smile and heart of gold. Mom…… You can stop worrying now!!!!!!!

HUDSON FALLS – Barbara E. Babson, 63, of Hudson Falls passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Glens Falls Center following a short illness.

Born Barbara Elaine Babson, on July 5,1961 in Granville, she was the daughter of the late Dallas S. and Pauline (Skovira) Babson.

Barb was a graduate of St. Mary’s -St. Alphonsus Regional Catholic School.

She received her Certified Nursing Assistant certificate through Pleasant Valley Infirmary where she continued to work as a CNA. Barb then went on to work as a medical device assembler at Boston Scientific, currently known as Angio Dynamics.

Born into the Catholic religion, Barb eventually became a parishioner of the First Baptist Church.

Barb loved family game nights. She was an avid reader of Dean Koontz and Stephen King novels. In her younger adult days, she enjoyed playing softball and bowling. She was a proud member of the “Dingbats” bowling team at Broadway Lanes. In her down time, Barb also enjoyed crocheting.

Her children will remember her as an amazingly strong, and beautiful woman. She will also be remembered as the sweetest, kindest, openminded woman whom they are eternally thankful for.

When asked to share memories of their mom, they shared the following: “We all have so many memories of and with our mom, as we know and hope all of you do”.  Stephanie, the oldest, has fond memories of her and Shane taking road trips with their mom and papa, exploring North America. Shane remembers winning a 3-legged race with his mom because they had a 1, 2 system they came up with. He and Megan look back on the times their mother would bring them to work at Fort Hudson where they got the chance to talk to and help serve the residents food. Megan and Brianna remember how she would always show up, cheering for them at their softball games, even if they were playing at the same time. Barb could be seen running back and forth between the two! Brianna also recalls times when her mom would bring her and Megan to work while she was cleaning banks. They thought it was so much fun and the coolest thing to be there after hours. They got to play around, as long as they didn’t disturb anything. They described it as feeling like a kid in a candy shop. They all recall being up at the waterfalls and just being there in that moment with their mom, all together.

Their list of memories could continue, and they will hold them close to their hearts. To the Babson’s and Wright’s, “we hope you are all up there enjoying game night! We love you.”

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her longtime companion and boyfriend, Alan Liimatainen, her brother, Dallas “Joe” Babson, sister-in-law, Kathleen Babson, her sister, Pauline “Butch” (Babson) Breed and her best friend, Martha Wright.

Those left to cherish Barbs memories are her children, Stephanie (James) Farley, Shane Seeley, Megan (Bryan) Mull, and Brianna (Devin Wood) Seeley; her grandchildren who loved her dearly, Destanie (Austin), Azraelle, Kaelynn, Kyler, and Molly; her great grandson, Corey; siblings, Richard (Sharon), Dennis (Sandy), David (Sandy), Donald (Elizabeth),  Stephen (Brenda), Anne “Bee” (Ernie), Juanita “Nita”, and Monica “Moni”. Barb is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Barb’s life will take place at 3:00 pm on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at the Fort Edward Firehouse located at 114 Broadway in Fort Edward. All are welcome to attend and are asked to bring a dish to share for a potluck dinner.

QUEENSBURY – Linda L. (Joiner) Smith, 73, of Queensbury, passed away following a long illness on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at her home with her loving family by her side.

Born May 21, 1951, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Gladys (Leppard) Joiner.

Throughout her life, Linda was no stranger to hard work. She worked at the Post Star for numerous years. She worked at Walmart in Queensbury for several years, and Glens Falls Hospital in the dietary department.

While at Glens Falls Hospital, she met and fell in love with her future husband, Walter J. Smith.  They eventually married on September 26, 1987, and spent close to 39 years together.

Her favorite actor of all time was Michael Landon. She loved watching him on Little House on The Prairie. She told her family she was “sure to teach him a few things” when she got to heaven. Linda’s other favorite shows to watch were COPS, and My 600 Pound Life. She enjoyed playing bingo and bowling. She also loved listening to the Supremes.

Linda will always be known as a spitfire. When needed, she had quite the temper but that was only to keep everyone in line. Most of all, Linda loved family gatherings. A few days prior to Linda’s passing, she was able to spend time with her family and enjoy one last cookout. She was a wonderful wife, loving mother, and terrific grandmother who will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Linda is predeceased by her sister, Marylou Jamison, her grandson, Derek MacDuff, her mother-in-law, Helen Smith, special aunt Donna Bohlman and special uncle Walt (Bud) Bohlman.

Survivors include her loving husband, Walter J. Smith of Queensbury, her doting children, Lynn Morehouse (Aldemar Vadnais) of Hudson Falls, George Matott (Barbara Flores) of Queensbury, and Wendy Matott (Victor Potter) of Glens Falls; her adoring grandchildren Alicia MacDuff of Hudson Falls, Devon MacDuff of Hudson Falls, Andrew Jabot of Queensbury, Fantasia Jabot of Queensbury, Mariah Vadnais of Hudson Falls, Austin Matott of Glens Falls, Cierra Flores of Queensbury, and Madison Matott of Queensbury. Linda is also survived by Hope (Smith) St. Fleur and her children, Brady and Brayden of Clifton Park, and Christopher Smith and his son, Brenden, of Gansevoort; her sister Cindy Joiner, and her brother Bob (Marge) Joiner.

A graveside service will take place at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the Town of Fort Edward.

GLENS FALLS – Helen T. O’Connor, 58, of Glens Falls, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born June 30, 1966, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Mildred (Farrell) Rundell and the late Sterling Ball.

Helen grew up in South Glens Falls and was a 1985 graduate of South Glens Falls High School. She was employed at Kmart in Queensbury until she retired in 2003.

From a young age, Helen started camping with her family and continued the yearly tradition of traveling to York, Maine and Wells, Maine.  She absolutely adored the ocean. It was undoubtedly her happy place.

Helen married Jeff O’Connor on September 24, 2011, and spent the next thirteen years together.

Those closest to Helen knew how much she loved the Christmas Season. Every October Christmas music could be heard playing on the radio in the car and at her home. Helen usually began decorating for Christmas on Thanksgiving following dinner and her tree was usually up by the end of the weekend. She struggled every January when it came time to take the tree down.

Some of Helen’s favorite things were baking, cooking, watching crime and drama shows like Law & Order and animation shows like Family guy, and keeping close tabs on Nate and Adam. Most of all, she loved her family, and she will be greatly missed.

In addition to her father, Helen is predeceased by her brother, Larry Ball, and her special niece, Amy Tranowicz.

Survivors include her loving husband, Jeffrey O’Connor of Glens Falls, her sons, Nathanial “Nate” Delaney, and Adam Delaney both of Gansevoort; her grandsons, Logan Delaney and Spencer Dutcher; her mom, Mildred Rundell of Gansevoort; her brothers, James (Mimi) Ball and Billy (Stephanie) Ball both of Gansevoort; her sisters, Margaret (Peggy) Ball of Gansevoort, and Linda Pollack of Queensbury.

HUDSON FALLS – Thomas E. O’Leary, Jr., 63, of Hudson Falls, passed away on September 15, 2024.

Born on August 1, 1961, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Thomas O’Leary, Sr. and Nancy (McLaughlin) O’Leary.

Tom attended Lake George High School, and upon graduation, he attended and graduated from Westminster College in Utah.

In 1996, he married Wendy (Woodruff) Chakalis in Hudson Falls.

Tom proudly worked for over 31 years as a Registered Nurse at the Glens Falls Hospital.

He was predeceased by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Wendy O’Leary; his daughter, Keara O’Leary; his son, Guy (Jennie) Chakalis; his grandson, Hunter Chakalis; his aunt Mary Warfel; his sister, Tammy Bottiger and her husband, Howard; and his nephew and several cousins.

Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, St. Mary’s Cemetery in South Glens Falls.

FORT ANN – James T. Lewis, 75, of Fort Ann, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 12, 2024.

Born under a full moon on December 18, 1948, Jim was the son of the late Walter B. and Agnes C. (Hall) Lewis.

Jim attended Hudson Falls High School. Following high school, Jim enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1969.

While stationed in Germany, Jim met and fell in love with his future wife of 55 years, Heidemarie Glas. The two were married on March 24, 1969, in Frankfurt am Main, Hesse, Germany. Jim and Heidi moved to Fort Edward, eventually building their dream home in Fort Ann.

Uncertain of what he would do for employment, Jim’s mother suggested he apply at General Electric, beginning his thirty-five-year employment. While working the night shift at GE, Jim drove school buses during the day for Hudson Falls and Fort Ann school districts. Jim retired from GE in 2006. He continued to work driving commercial vehicles for various employers throughout Warren, Washington, and Saratoga counties.

In his younger days Jim loved spending time at the family camp near Hadlock Pond with his parents, siblings, nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim participated in many activities, such as cycling, electronics, motorcycling and product research. However, his favorite pastimes always included his sons’ interests. As the librarian of the Adirondack Commodore User’s Group, Jim spent countless hours cataloging software. As the boys grew older, those interests expanded to roller skating, video games, filming and starring in video skits, snowmobiling, paintball and lawn games. Possibly his favorite hobby was spending beautiful summer days playing golf with family and friends on the 12-hole course he built on their property. Jim enjoyed friendly competition, and he never hesitated to offer a wager on each round. Jim was also an avid World Cup soccer fan and loved watching the Jets and the Mets, yet his favorite sporting events always included those in which his children and grandchildren participated.

In addition to his parents, Jim is predeceased by his sisters, Patricia (Richard) McKinney, and Maryellen Crevison, and his brothers, John (Patricia Chadwick) Lewis and Joseph Lewis. Jim is also predeceased by his sister-in-law, Johannah (Dieter) Mayrhörmann and brother-in-law Günther (Hilde) Zimmermann, both of Germany.

Survivors include his loving wife, Heidemarie Lewis of Fort Ann; his sons, Frank (Kim) Lewis of Tennessee, Mark Lewis of Fort Ann, Jonathan (Kim) Lewis of Queensbury, and Luke (Samantha Elinson) Lewis of Vermont; his grandchildren, Emily Lewis, Jarod Lewis, Calvin Lewis, and Hannah Lewis; his brother, Jeffrey Lewis of Massachusetts; his brother-in-law, Jerold Crevison of Fort Ann; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

Jim will be laid to rest at 12 pm on Friday, September 20, 2024, with full Military Honors at the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, New York.

Family and friends are invited to a reception following the funeral ceremony at 4 pm at Jim and Heidi’s, 4221 State Route 4, Hudson Falls, New York.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jim’s name may be made to St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, 85 George St, Fort Ann, NY 12827; Tunnel to Towers Foundation (t2t.org); or to a charity of one’s choice.

HUDSON FALLS – Alice W. (Silva) Bentley, 94, of Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at the Haynes House of Hope in Granville, following a short illness.

Born May 28, 1930, in Boston Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Ada (Crosby) Silva.

Alice grew up in the Albany area and attended the Hackett School of Albany. She spent many years working for the New York State Education Department. Alice retired after dedicating thirty years to NYS. In 2016, Alice moved to Hudson Falls to be closer to her family.

She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and word searches. She loved to read and was a dedicated reader of James Patterson novels. Alice also loved watching western movies, especially if the main actor was John Wayne. She adored “The Duke”. Alice found great comfort in spending time at home caring for her cats. She never met a stray cat she didn’t adopt. Alice also cherished the times she was able to spend with her family.

In addition to her parents, Alice is predeceased by her sister Irene Silva, her brothers, Harry Silva and Frankie Silva, and her granddaughter, Christine Bentley.

Survivors include her loving son, Elwin “Ed” (Kathy) Bentley, her loving grandson, Scott (Jennifer) Bentley, and her great grandsons Scottie (Samantha), Aiden, and Brody Bentley.

Alice’s family would like to thank the nurses of High Peaks Hospice and the staff at the Haynes House of Hope.

Burial will be private at the convenience of the Bentley family.
