HUDSON FALLS – Rosemarie “Re” (Kessler) Potter, 81, of Hudson Falls, went into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, January 9, 2020, at her home, with her family by her side.
Born on March 16, 1938 in Boonville, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Clara (Pfendler) Kessler.
Rosemarie was a graduate of Boonville High School and continued her education at Plattsburg Teachers College.
On July 15, 1961, she married John H. “Jack” Potter in Boonville. He passed away in 1997, after 36 years.
Rosemarie taught Home and Careers in Hudson, South Glens Falls and Hudson Falls. She was a wonderful teacher who enjoyed her students and her fellow teachers.
For many years, Rosemarie was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls and more recently, St. Michael the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Rosemarie was predeceased by her brothers, Duane Kessler and Douglas Kessler and her sister, Lynda Allen.
Survivors include her four children, John Potter and his wife, Lynn, Jeff Potter and his wife, Debbie, Joette Kellogg and her husband, Bob and Jay Potter; her grandchildren, Kaylie, Thomas, Tyler, Hanna, Paige and Deme; her sister, Donna Pfendler and her brother Lynn Kessler; and several nieces and nephews.

HUDSON FALLS – Marjorie “Marge” L. Cooney, 84, of Pearl Street, passed into the arms of the Lord on Friday, January 3, 2020, at the Glens Falls Hospital, with her loving family by her side.

Born on October 27, 1935, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Grace (Daly) Dornan.

Marge was a 1953 graduate of Hudson Falls High School and a 1978 graduate of Cosmetology.

On October 11, 1953, she married Carl H. Cooney of Schuylerville at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.

Marge was a member of the Court Mater Dei #1442, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, an usher, and a member of the work crew at church for 17 years.

Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by a son, David Vincent Cooney her sister, Maureen Billings and her husband, William and her special cousin, Carol Pacyna and her husband, Andrew.

Survivors in addition to her husband of 65 years, Carl Cooney of Hudson Falls, include her cherished children, Diane Lambert of Hudson Falls and Daniel Cooney and his wife, Robin of Gansevoort; her beloved grandchildren, Crystal Lambert, Jennifer Bennett and Danielle Marjorie Comes and Daniel Alec Cooney; and three great grandchildren, Lilly Bennett, Lucas Bennett and James Hamblin.

MOREAU – Timothy C. Merrill, 62, of Moreau, passed away on January 2, 2020, at Glens Falls Hospital, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born August 2, 1957, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Theodore and Viola (Nicolai) Merrill.

Tim was a 1975 graduate of Hudson Falls High School where he was a varsity athlete on the football and track & field teams. After high school, he attended Adirondack Community College.

On May 6, 1989, Tim married the love of his life and best friend, Christine Bergeron, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.

Tim was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls. He was owner and operator of Asset Strategies, specializing in benefits and retirement planning for individuals and businesses. Known for his entrepreneurship and extreme optimism, Tim became founder, president, and creative designer of b posi+ive ware LLC, featuring a line of sportswear, and created the trademark “On the seventh day . . . . . He skied”.

From an early age, Tim developed his God-given talent as an accomplished lead guitarist and songwriter, copywriting over 100 songs. His passion for music led him to countless performances on stages in Southern California, Austin, TX, and all over the Northeast. His proudest musical achievement occurred last March in Brooklyn while he was recovering from cancer treatment. He was approached by Grammy award winning producer, Yaron Fuchs, resulting in the production of a record of his original rock music titled, Temptation Dance.

As a young adult, he held his public vessels license, piloting tour boats on Lake George, and worked as a parasail operator. Tim was an expert alpine skier, and loved spending his summers on his boat and camping on the lake with his wife, family and friends. Some of his other favorite past times included backyard campfires and entertaining others at his home with a fireworks display.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Ted Merrill. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Christine Bergeron Merrill of Moreau; his sister, Beth Merrill of Norwalk, CT; his brother, Patrick Merrill and his wife, Cathy of South Glens Falls; his beloved nieces and nephews, Suzanne, Lisa, Tedd, Doug, Chas, Tony and Chelsea; his Aunt Olga Nicolai; several cousins; his sister-in-law, Karen Merrill of Long Valley, NJ; and his beloved cats, Misty and Bobcat.

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Beverly Gray, 80, passed away peacefully in her sleep, at her home, on January 2, 2020.

Born December 18, 1939 in Rutland, VT, she was the daughter of the late Morton and Gladys (Reid) Brown.

Beverly was a graduate of Fair Haven High School.

Beverly married Joseph Gray; they had been married for 56 years when he passed away.

Beverly enjoyed working on puzzles, word searches, reading books, shopping and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, Beverly was predeceased by her sisters, Thelma Brown, Veronica Shaw, Shirley Davis, Patricia Ballantine, Myrtle Hall and Effie Gray.

Survivors include her sons, Joseph Gray, Jr. and his wife, Nancy of North Carolina, Louis Gray and his wife, Tammy of Diamond Point; her daughter. Catherine O’Keefe and Kevin Bickford of Kingsbury; her three grandchildren, Warren Gray and his wife, Ashley, James LaFoy and his wife, Kate, and Brittany LaFoy; her three great grandchildren, Anthony Knapp, Alessandra LaFoy, Warren Kallon Gray; and her sister, Barbara Alt of Castleton, VT.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 1 p.m. at the Federated Church of Castleton at 504 Main St., in Castleton, VT.

HUDSON FALLS – Emelie M. Blondin, 80, of Warren Street, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2019, at Albany Medical Center.

Born on February 22, 1939 in Hudson Falls and a lifelong resident, she was the daughter of the late Cleophus and Nellie (Holcomb) Duval. 

Emelie was a proud graduate of St. Anne’s High School in Albany.

For almost 20 years, she was a seamstress at J&J Lingerie in Glens Falls.

Emelie loved being a fulltime mom.  Her children were blessed that many days they came home from school to the smell of fresh baked goods.   She was known for making the best perogies.  Emelie enjoyed knitting and making afghans for her family.  When she wasn’t creating beautiful blankets, Emelie worked on crossword puzzles.  She also had a passion for reading, having filled her home with hundreds of books.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert B. Blondin and her siblings, Nellie, Melina, Armand, Clifford, Ray, George and Andre.

Survivors include her children, Bernard Blondin of South Glens Falls, Theresa Murphy of Queensbury, Robert Blondin of Hudson Falls, Emily Butler and her husband, Dale of Hudson Falls and Brian Blondin and his wife, Lynn of Hudson Falls; her grandchildren, Shaun Murphy and his husband, Clifford of PA, Kerri Leddick and her husband, Michael of NC, Jay Butler and his wife, Sierra of Hudson Falls, Matthew Butler of Glens Falls and MacKenzie Blondin of NYC; two great grandchildren; her brother, Pierre Duval and his wife, Pauline, of Hartford; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

QUEENSBURY – James D. Dean Sr. “Jim” of Queensbury, passed at Glens Falls Hospital on January 1st, 2020 after a brief illness.

Born on January 5, 1960 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Irving and Mary (Livingston) Dean, Sr.

Jim was a career truck driver of over 30 years, most recently employed at Ace Hardware of Saratoga.

He was an avid fisherman and a classic car enthusiast.  Come rain or shine, Jim and his wife, Janet attended the Adirondack Nationals Car Show in Lake George every year.  One memorable year, he had the honor of meeting his idol, Dave Kindig, from “Bitchin Rides”. 

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Irving Dean, Jr., Floyd E. Dean and Robert L. Dean, Sr. and his sisters, Geraldine Mound and Ella Dean.

Jim is survived by his wife of 26 years Janet Dean; their son, Owen, their daughter, Stephanie Deso, his son, James Jr.; his brother,  Earl Dean, his wife, Linda, and their three children; his sisters, Mary Manzer and her partner, Frank, Bobbi Van Guilder and her husband,  John;  and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Doris M. Sikorak, 93, of Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2019 at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born April 24, 1926, in Peekskill, N.Y., she was the son of the late Walter Mattern and Ellen (Weaver) Hughes.

Raised in Manhattan on East 57th St. near Central Park, Doris was the product of a changing society.  After graduating from High School she was employed as a telephone operator in New York City, joined several book clubs, and enjoyed dancing.  She often visited family who owned farms outside the city, spending summers with numerous cousins.  This contrast would help shape her perspective throughout her life.  She was immensely proud of having cast her first vote for FDR in 1944.

After the war, she married John Sikorak, on March 7th, 1948, at Our Lady of Victory Church in Lower Manhattan.  In 1956, with two children and expecting a third, the young couple moved from Brooklyn to their home in Hudson Falls.  Doris eventually became a working mother, spending several decades as a sales associate in the shoe department at Sears Roebuck, retiring in 1991.

Doris dedicated her life to both her family and her community.  Selflessly, Doris was a member of the American Legion Post 574 Auxiliary for 61 years, serving in positions at both the unit and county level.  She served the Glens Falls Hospital Guild for 25 years as both a volunteer and board member.  Doris joined AARP in 1986 and was a member of her local AARP chapter, including being its treasurer until her passing.  She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served for decades as a poll worker in Washington County.

In what little free time she made for herself, Doris had a love for travel.  Her adventures took her around the globe.  She often visited family in Florida, New Jersey, and Las Vegas.  She was proud to have traveled extensively throughout many of the United States including Hawaii.  In addition, her travels took her to Spain, France, England, Belgium, Netherlands, and Ireland.  She fulfilled a lifelong dream and in her 80’s she traveled to Egypt to see the Great Pyramid of Giza, cruise the Nile, and even rode a camel.  She maintained a passport throughout her life never wanting to miss the opportunity for a new adventure.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, John Sikorak, and her only brother and sister-in-law Walter and Rose Mattern.  Affectionately known as “Meme” to both family and friends, Doris is survived by her daughters, Mary Ellen Caruso of Delmar, Virginia Etu (Tucker) of Lake George; her son, John Sikorak (Debbie) of Queensbury; three grandsons, Michael Caruso, Kyle Sikorak, and John T. Etu; two granddaughters, Brittany Austad (Hector), and Julie Sikorak; great-grandson Noa; great-granddaughter Scarlett, and great-grandaughter Ava, soon to arrive; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends.

Doris’ most endearing quality is that she loved unconditionally, understood and cherished the value of family and friends, and was always ready to strike up a conversation, even in her final days.  Her life was truly well lived.

FORT EDWARD, QUEENSBURY, W. RUTLAND, VT – Gloria M. Shortsleeves, 85, most recently of The Pines in Glens Falls, received her angel wings on Sunday, December 29, 2019.

Born on July 21, 1934, in West Rutland, Vermont, she was the daughter of the late, Francis C. and Angeline (Fredette) McNeil.

Gloria graduated from West Rutland School in 1952.

On May 16, 1953, she married the love of her life, Gilbert “Pete” Shortsleeves at St. Bridget Church in West Rutland, VT. Over her working career, Gloria had worked for General Electric Company in Rutland, Hudson Falls and Fort Edward. During their retirement, Gloria and her husband, Gilbert became owners and operators of Diaryland in Zephyrhills, FL.

She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Fort Edward and a former member of the Kingsbury Senior Citizens. Even though Gloria was a glorified Italian Cook, she was very proud of her Irish heritage. She especially enjoyed when her family got together for Sunday spaghetti sauce dinners. While Gloria was never able to visit Ireland, her granddaughter, Cozetta, went in her honor and received a Gaelic grandmother symbol tattoo on her forearm. Gloria enjoyed bingo and sewing. She was proud of the fact she was able to sew and design Lisa’s wedding gown, Ann’s prom gown, and Patti’s Jane McCrea costume. Gloria looked forward to visits from her son, “The Golden Boy”, Monty. She loved to entertain many different people at her camp in Vermont over the years. Some of her fondest memories included meeting the Irish singer, Danny O’Donell, and watching the Riverdance with her husband, Gilbert. In more recent years, Gloria cherished family celebrations at The Pines. She made friends everywhere she went and touched the lives of many.

Gloria’s family would like to personally thank the special staff at The Pines who cared for her throughout the years, the late Cindy Strainer, Keirsten, Donna, Tyler, Chris, Kelly, Barb, Joanne, Marissa, Lois, Henry and Mike.

QUEENSBURY – Henry C. Chabot, 83, of Queensbury, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2019, as a result of a motor vehicle accident.

Born on February 9, 1936, in Troy, he was the son of William Chabot and Anna (Coy) Cybulski.

Henry was a self-taught handyman, who could do just about anything he put his mind to.  He was proud to have built his own home on Sanford Street years ago.

 Henry enjoyed reading and faithfully went to the Crandall Library.  He never sat still and always kept active and never wanted to just stay in one place, because of this, Henry made many friends, socializing at his favorite hangouts and on the bus route he took.

Most of all, he loved being with his children and grandchildren, especially for a meal.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepfather, John Cybulski, his former wife and best friend, Leona (Renaud) Missita and his Brother in law, Robert Willett and a grandson, Ricky Schenk.

He is survived by his stepchildren, whom to considered his own children, Anthony Missita, Sr. and his wife, Joann, George Missita and his wife, Gayle, Bonnie Willett, Antoinette Missita, Bernadette Missita, Jane Bertrand and her husband, Frank, Hazel Palmer and her husband, Clement and Angela LaMay; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and his dear friend, Laura June Millington.

HUDSON FALLS – Shelia M. Haley, 82, of Hudson Falls, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2019, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on September 2, 1937, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Frank T. and Marguerite (Winegar) Casey.

Sheila was a 1956 graduate of Hudson Falls High School.

In 1966, she married William Haley in New Hampshire.  They were married for 50 years until he passed away in 2016.

Sheila retired as Commissioner of the Board of Elections in Washington County.

She enjoyed politics, flower gardening and her pets, especially her dog Shelby.  Sheila was an avid Elvis fan.  Christmas was a special time of year for her, she would go all out completely decorating her home and celebrating with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Francis Casey.

She is survived by her five children, Cathleen Middleton and her partner, Billie Jo of Queensbury, Colleen Haley and her spouse Marsha Rymph of Hudson Falls, William P. Haley, Jr. and his spouse Angela Bascue-Haley of Hudson Falls, PJ Haley of Hudson Falls and Matthew Haley of Hudson Falls; her granddaughter, Katrina Middleton of Queensbury; her nephew, Charles Casey; her special friends Beryl and les Allen of Vancouver, Canada; and her in law family from Fort Edward, Bobby and Pat and their kids, and Peter and Johnny.

HUDSON FALLS – Joan Catherine Toole, 93, of Lincoln Street. in Hudson Falls, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at the Fort Hudson Health Care Facility, following an extended illness.

Born on August 17, 1926, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late George and Catherine (O’Brien) Carrier.

Joan was a graduate of the Hudson Falls High School Class of 1944.

On September 7, 1947, she married John “Jack” B. Toole, at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson Falls.  Jack passed away on September 24, 1974, after 27 years of marriage.

After raising her children, she worked many years for Bromley Imports and later retired from VW Weeks and Sons in Queensbury.

Joan was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.  She enjoyed taking family trips to Maine, dining out and most of all hosting family celebrations.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Betty Carrier and her son John “Jack” Toole.

She is survived by her children, James Toole and his wife, Nancy of Glens Falls, Mary Jane  Burns and her husband, Robert of Glens Falls, Joanne Palmer and her husband , Scott of Hudson Falls; her grandchildren, Christopher Toole and his wife, Melissa, Ryan Toole, Jonathan Palmer and his wife, Kristen, Alexa Toole and her fiancé, Nathan Palmer and Darren and David Graham-Messercola; her great grandchildren, Michael and Brendan Toole, Fallon and Gianna Toole and Alexander and Cameron Palmer; several very close nieces, nephews and cousins; and her brother in law, Reverend Arthur Toole and a daughter in law, Maria Toole of South Glens Falls.

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Ryan Brandon Peck, 33, of South Glens Falls, passed on, on Thursday, December 19, 2019.

Born on October 24, 1986 in Glens Falls, during the World Series, he was the son of Pamela (Barnett) and Michael Peck.

Ryan was a graduate of South Glens Falls High School, class of 2004.  In 2008, he graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh, with a degree in business.

On September 13, 2015, Ryan proposed to the love of his life, Brianna (Sharpe), at Dallas Stadium in Texas.  The Cowboys played the Giants that day, Ryan returned home with a fiancé and a win.  Ryan and Brianna married on November 4, 2016 in Rivera Maya, Mexico.

Ryan and his dad co-owned Tuff-Kote Flooring, LLC, although Ryan felt that he was the boss.  He loved traveling the world with his beautiful wife, Bri, watching the Dallas Cowboys play, boating on Lake George his whole life, with family, his wife, his dog, Dallas, and friends.  He enjoyed snowboarding, water sports, jet-skiing and a beautiful beach.  Ryan was a great athlete who played many sports.  He played football from the age 8 until he graduated from high school.  He played Lacrosse for 4 years, played baseball from t-ball through senior leagues in high school and he played basketball.   Ryan loved life, especially the finer things.  He found fulfillment in seeing the people he loved succeed in life.  He never judged anyone and was an all-around great guy.

Ryan was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Vivian Barnett, who passed away on December 19 (the same day as Ryan), 2003; his maternal grandfather, Robert Barnett; his paternal grandmother, Louise Peck; his paternal grandfather, William Peck, and several aunts and uncles.

Survivors include his beloved wife and soulmate, Brianna(Sharpe) Peck of South Glens Falls; his parents, Pamela and Michael Peck of Moreau; his sister, Jennifer Sarah Peck of Charleston, SC; his brothers, Robert Peck and his wife, Jamie of Queensbury, Michael Peck, Jr. and his fiancé, Jessica, of FL; his nieces and nephews, Cameron, Olivia, Alex, Jaxon Peck and Morgan Dowling; his best friend, Dallas Peck (his dog), and “Buggy” (his cat): his mother in law, Tonya Sharpe of South Glens Falls; his father in law, Angelo Sharpe and his wife, Leigh of MD; his sister in law, Taylor Sharpe of South Glens Falls, along with other very special brothers and sisters in law; his Mimi and Papa Sharpe of Hudson Falls;  Grandma and Grandpa Knobel of Glens Falls, as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins on both sides.

Ryan’s family wishes to invite family, friends, and all to The 1925 Barn, 89 County Route 41, Hudson Falls on December 27, 2019, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.  They would like everyone to bring a memory of Ryan to share at 6 p.m.
