HUDSON FALLS – Marie A. (Norton) Monahan, 94, of Clark Street, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her beloved family, on March 28, 2020.

Born on July 14, 1925, in Hudson Falls, she was the daughter of the late Lewis B. and Lida (Boulet) Norton.

On June 3, 1945, she married Richard T. Monahan, at St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.  He passed away on September 29, 2013, after 68 wonderful years of marriage.

Marie was a past Vice President and Director of Monahan & Loughlin, Inc. in Hudson Falls.  She also was an officer of Mim Realty in Indian Lake and Moon Realty in Hudson Falls.

Marie was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls and was a former member of Court Mater Dei # 1442 Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She attended Hudson Falls High School.

She was a lifelong resident of Hudson Falls and enjoyed playing golf and going out to eat and enjoying a pre-dinner cocktail.  Marie’s family was her life.  She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Marie also enjoyed spending time with her husband, Richard, at their second home in Indian Lake, attending hockey games and following hot air balloons.  Most of all, she and Richard loved just being together enjoying each other’s company.

Besides her husband, Marie was predeceased by her beloved son, Michael L. Monahan.

Survivors include her son, Patrick J. Monahan and his wife, Joan, of Moreau; her three daughters, Kathleen Hallenbeck and her husband, Kurt of Hudson Falls, Karen McLaughlin of Hudson Falls and Joanne Davidson and her husband, Jeffrey of Hudson Falls; her daughter in law, Donna Monahan of Naples, Florida; her thirteen grandchildren, Brian Monahan and his wife, Bridget, David Monahan and his wife, Marika, Michelle Santor and her husband, Jason, Stephen Monahan and his wife, Meegan, Sean Monahan,  Christine Monahan, Marc Monahan and his wife, Desiree, Joshua Hallenbeck and his wife, Paula, Mickey McLaughlin, Heather Battiste and her husband, Joseph, Erin McLaughlin and her significant other, Lucas, Chelsea Lemon and her husband, Wil and Melissa Davidson; 34 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at the conclusion of the current pandemic.  A date and time will be announced in a later edition of the Post-Star.

The Rite of Committal will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the Town of Fort Edward, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, at the convenience of the family.

In Marie’s words, she would like everyone to “have a day.”.

March 11, 1991 – March 24, 2020

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Joseph “D.J.” Gorrie, 29. His family will miss his beautiful blue-green eyes, his bright smile, his easygoing personality and loving heart.

David was born on March 11, 1991 to his parents Anne E. McKinney and David A. Gorrie.

David was a graduate of South High, class of 2009.  He was a proud Bulldog, who lettered in basketball, baseball and football four years of High School.   He looked forward to wearing dress clothes and a tie, before suiting up for games with his teammates.  David played All-Star baseball and football.  His favorite baseball positions were shortstop and pitcher.  David received the 2008 Class “A” Football All-Star Team Punter First Team Award.  Besides sports, he looked forward to participating in the Marathon Dance, dancing his heart out, with schoolmates, for the recipients.

Following high school, David attended Adirondack Community College majoring in Liberal Arts.  He played for the Timberwolves baseball team, earning a Varsity Award, then transferred to Schenectady County Community College for Spring of 2001 to continue classes and play for their Royals baseball team.

David had a love for sports, whether participating, watching, teaching his mom, or learning from his dad at an early age.  He was a faithful fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Dallas Cowboys.  David also attended and enjoyed the hockey games at the Cool Insuring Arena.

He received his security guard training certificate in 2017.  He had since been employed by Great Escape Theme Park and Lodge and the Cool Insuring Arena as a security guard.   David enjoyed his jobs and worked with wonderful team members.  From Great Escape he received several certificates of appreciation and gratitude and the Security Guard of the Month Award and Lead of the Year in 2019.

David was predeceased by his grandfather, William Gorrie, his grandmother, Harriet Gorrie, his uncle, Billy Gorrie and his aunt, Theresa Ryther.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving parents, Anne E. McKinney and David A. Gorrie; his grandmother, Joan McKinney; his grandfather, Dave McKinney; his aunts and uncles, Steve and Maureen McKinney, Brian and Shelly McKinney, Rich and Karen (McKinney) Lancette, Mary and Bill Weseman, Peter and Mary Gorrie, Debbie Gorrie/ Michael Seabury, Annie Gorrie (Al Bardin) and Amber and Brian Imotichey; many fun-loving cousins; and friends and co-workers, who meant so much to him. 

Because of the current health care crisis, calling hours and a Funeral Mass at St. Michael’s The Archangel Church will be private.  There will be a celebration of David’s life at a later date, when it is safe for all his family and friends to gather.

David, your mind is at peace, your body is at rest and your spirit is in Heaven.  We love you always.  We will miss you so very much.  We will keep you in our hearts and thoughts and cherish and share our wonderful memories of you in all the days to come.  Until we meet again, may you rest in peace.

QUEENSBURY – Richard (Rich) Warren Baudoux, 73, died on March 26, 2020, after a long illness of which he gave a good fight. Stubborn to the end, he gave his all as he did in everything he has done during his life.

Born on January 9, 1947 in Trenton, NJ, Rich grew up in Edison and Westfield, NJ.  He was the son of the late Lillian M. (Olsen) Baudoux and Zen Charles Baudoux II.

Rich lived in NC and FL before finally coming to NY in his remaining years. He was a jack of all trades and master of them all as well! Rich could do anything he put his mind to. He learned to play the guitar at an early age, and it was a major part of his life. Rich was proud that he and his band, The Fabulous Dimensions were the opening act for Jimmy Clanton at the Flagship in Union, NJ, way back in the 1960’s. He worked several jobs while still in school, always busy at something. He did everything with perfection and precision. Woodworking was a specialty, building elaborate staircases, one of which was featured in a magazine. Rich served in Panama during his stint in the US Army.

Besides his parents, Rich was predeceased by his older brother, Zen Charles Baudoux III., and his longtime companion, Dixie Britton.

Rich leaves behind his sons, Richard Baudoux Jr. of Willmington, Delaware, Casey Baudoux of Belle Meade, NJ; his daughter, Michelle Burris (Billy) of St. George’s, Delaware; his grandchildren, Danielle Baudoux, Billy and Christine Burris; his sister, Candi Seiler and her husband Pat of South Glens Falls; his brother, Clay Baudoux of Garner, NC and many loving nieces and nephews.

The memory of Rich should be as the happy go lucky man he used to be.

HUDSON FALLS – Elizabeth Clara “Betty” Brunelle, 79, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 in Glens Falls, after a long illness.

Born on April 11, 1940 in Hadley-Luzerne, she was the daughter of the late Harold Johnson and Charlotte Rebecca Mickel .

Betty and her husband, James Brunelle, Sr., were united in marriage on September 28, 1957.

Throughout her life, she worked for many area businesses.  But, her primary life-long job was as a loving and supportive wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend to all who knew her.   Betty also spent decades supporting the Hudson Falls Fire Company and the Kingsbury Volunteer Hose Company.   Her work ethic and devotion to family and friends will be deeply missed.

Betty enjoyed reading, bowling, camping, clambakes, holiday dinners and taking care of her family.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, John Johnson and Joseph Johnson and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Survivors include her husband of over 62 years, James Brunelle, Sr., four daughters, Kathy Palmer (late Henry), Sue Studler (Andy), Pamela Brayton (Dan), Mary Chase (Nelson) all of Hudson Falls; two sons, James Brunelle, Jr. (Michelle) of Hudson Falls and Thomas Brunelle (Jenn) of Granville; her brothers, Doug Johnson of Fort Ann and Arthur Johnson of Whitehall; 15 grandchildren, Shaun, Heather, David, Beth, Colin, Dereck, Matthew, Ethan, Christopher, Emily, Abbie, Megan, Jenann, Kristen and Thomas, Jr ; 12 great grandchildren (3 on the way), her best friend, Marilyn Spiezio; and so many other, too numerous to list.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to the C.R. Wood Cancer Center, 100 Park Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801.

HUDSON FALLS – Joanne M. Kibling, 53, of Hudson Falls, passed away unexpectedly at home on March 24, 2020.

Born August 30, 1966 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Ralph G. Kibling and the late Judith M. (Havens) Kibling. 

Joanne was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School and after attended SUNY Plattsburgh.  She obtained her Associates Degree from Adirondack Community College.

She worked for many years at AngioDynamics, Inc. in Queensbury as a quality assurance inspector.  Most recently, Joanne worked for her best friend, Tammy, at Bubbles and Sun. 

Joanne was a free spirit who enjoyed traveling anywhere.  She loved going camping and just being outdoors.  She enjoyed riding horses and going to music concerts with “the girls”.  She often could be found attending tractor pulls with her dad.  The most important role in Joanne’s life was being a grandmother.  She loved her grandchildren more than anything in the world. 

Survivors include her father, Ralph G. Kibling of Hudson Falls; her children, Jordan Neumann and his wife, Katie of Queensbury, Benjamin Saville of Latham; her grandchildren, Kenna, Jack and Landon; her siblings,  Michael Kibling and his life companion, Darla of South Glens Falls, Brian Kibling of Glens Falls, John Kibling and his wife, Marion of South Glens Falls, Derek Kibling and his significant other, Sam of Kingsbury, and Glenn Kibling and his wife, Kim of Hartford; her beloved dog, Lily; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

ARGYLE – Bruce E. Miner, 81, formerly of Argyle, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at the Washington Center. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.

Born on February 3, 1939 in Hudson Falls, he was the son of the late Eugene and Mildred (Colvin) Miner.

Bruce graduated from Argyle High School in 1958 and lived in the immediate surrounding area his whole life.  He worked for Scott Paper Company for approximately 35 years as a millwright.   Upon his retirement from Scott Paper, he worked part time at DLV Construction and then the Dollar Tree.

Bruce loved to fish, bowl, watch NASCAR and his beloved NY Yankees.  He also loved metal scrapping with his son, Glenn Miner.  Bruce camped and traveled extensively throughout his life.  His favorite adventure was a vacation to Australia during which he had very long- lasting memories.

Bruce was known for lending a helping hand to those in need, especially if it involved lunch! He very much enjoyed coaching his sons in little league baseball, spending time with his daughter, Christine and watching his daughter, Lori, cheer.   Later in life, he enjoyed watching his granddaughter play sports.  Lastly, “Gumpa” as he was called by grandsons, Josh and Kile, spent many days at afternoon matinees together.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Todd Miner, who passed away in 1963.

Survivors include his former wife, Sandra (Groome) Eastman of Crystal River, FL; his children, Scott Miner (Angela) of Leesburg, VA, Christine Petty (Rob) of Cossayuna, Glenn Miner (Ronnie) of Argyle and Lori Severance (Nick) of Hartford; his grandchildren include, Adam Miner, Victoria Miner, Joshua Miner, Kile Miner, Justin Genier, Nichole McKinney (Brian), Erin Winchell (Charlie), Cailin Severance and Cole Severance; two great grandchildren, Maelyn and Layleigh; as well as many cousins and dear friends.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to his life-long friend, Gary Gilchrist for his assistance through the Argyle American Legion.   Additionally, the family sends heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated and caring staff at the Washington Center.  Lastly, the family deeply appreciates his caring grandson, Kile Miner, who visited him daily at the Washington Center and brought him his favorite hotdogs.

KINGSBURY – Donna M. Graham , 66, of Kingsbury, passed away peacefully, on March 21, 2020 at her home, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on May 1, 1953 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Dorothy (Hart) Ringer.

Donna was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School.

On October 28, 1972, she married Walter A. “Rusty “ Graham.  He passed away on July 19, 2009, after 37 years of marriage.

Donna operated Quilts and Crafts by Donna Marie from 1991 to 1997.  Following the closing of her business, she became  the Human Resources Manager at Amsterdam Printing in Queensbury, until her retirement in 2018.

Donna was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church.

The center of her life was her family.  She loved spending time with them, especially her grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her siblings, Tom Ringer, Jim Ringer and Barb Short.

Survivors include her children, Mary Graham and her companion, Joe Reynolds, Michelle Hurlburt and her husband, Matt, Michael Graham and Dianne Cantiello and her husband, Lou; her grandchildren, Brian and Elizabeth Hurlburt and Sam and Ben Cantiello; her beloved companion, Paul Bromley; her siblings, Dan Ringer and his wife, Kathy, Cindy Ward and her husband, Mike and Anne Palmer and her husband, Mike; a special aunt, Bev Brown and her husband, Tom; her sisters in law, Loretta Ringer,  Leo Ringer, Jan Pranschke and her husband, Tim and Kathryn Schulenburg and her husband, Neil; her brother in law, Wayne Short; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

HUDSON FALLS – Linda E. Smith, 67, of Hudson Falls, passed away at her home, on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.

Born on December 11, 1952 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Charles G. and Leona E. (Russell) Ripley.

After graduating from Whitehall Central School, Linda earned her LPN from McClellan School of Nursing in Cambridge.  Following graduation, she began her nursing career at Glens Falls Hospital.  While working there as an LPN, she met her future husband and the love of her life, Marvin Smith.  On February 25, 1978 they shared their love with family, friends and God  at the Wesleyan Church on Ridge Road.

Linda  was a hard worker, who loved her job at the hospital and most recently for Neighbors, New York.  

The center of her life was her family and her faith.  She was a member of the Northway Christian Family Church in Queensbury.  Linda lived her life according to the Bible, by her beliefs, by the way she treated people and her church activities.   At Church, she was part of the Children’s Ministry, teaching a class on a Sunday of each month. 

Linda also loved sharing her past with her family.  While growing up, her Grandmother Russell had a huge influence on her life.  Linda enjoyed spending time with her and loved sharing stories about their life together.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Faye Irene Ripley.

Those left to grieve include her husband, of 42 years, Marvin Smith of Hudson Falls; her daughter, Erika L. Hicks and her husband, Bill of Orange Park, Fl; her grandchildren, Ashley Hicks and Ayden Hicks; two sisters, Mary Lou Petzoldt and her husband, Mark of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Jean Aurillo of South Glens Falls; her brother in law, Richard Aurillo; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date, with burial at Clemons Cemetery in Dresden.

HARTFORD – Kent F. Clark, 66, of Hartford, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2020 at the Haynes House of Hope in Granville, after a long battle with cancer.

Born September 17, 1953 in Cambridge, NY he was the son of the late Earl F. and Aurore (Dessaint) Clark.

Kent graduated from South Glens Falls High School in 1971 and then attended Paul Smith’s College.

On July 11, 1981 he married Beth M. Hall in South Glens Falls, NY

Kent was a bus driver and a mechanic for the Fort Ann School system from where he recently retired.  He loved that job and all the people he worked with. 

Kent enjoyed trips to Maine with his wife, Beth, where they enjoyed relaxing by the ocean and eating lobster dinners.  Kent loved the outdoors, no matter where he was.  He had a passion for classic cars and could be frequently found working on cars and making small engine repairs.  Because of his love for car mechanics, Kent was a well-known parts man in local car dealers and parts stores.  He also was a history buff when it came to wars throughout history and World War II, often learning firsthand experiences from his father in law, Ralph. Kent will be greatly missed.

Besides his parents, Kent was predeceased by his sister, Emilie Y. Ravena; his father and mother in law, Ralph D. and Marilyn L. Hall, whom he loved dearly and helped care for like his own.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Beth M. Clark of Hartford; his siblings, James E. Clark, Sr. and his wife, Sandra of Queensbury, Keith J. Clark of Salem, Karen K. Hall and her husband, Larry of Queensbury; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

All services are private.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

HUDSON FALLS – Arvin W. Jabot, Sr., 65, of Hudson Falls, passed away, on Saturday, March 7, 2020, after a short illness, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on April 13, 1954 in Granville, he was the son of the late Ilene E. Roberts.

After attending Hudson Falls High School, Arvin enlisted in the United States Marines.

On September 1, 2000, he married the love of his life, Regina Alway at Crandall park in Glens Falls.

Throughout his life, Arvin was mostly a self-employed mechanic.  He loved tinkering with hot rods, old cars and classic American muscle cars.  When he was not working on cars, Arvin started A And J Clean Outs at his home.  He loved this because it gave him the opportunity to dig out and discover antique gems.

Arvin was a simple and selfless man who loved his children and worshiped his wife.  He was a strong man who was always willing to help anyone in need.

Arvin and his wife spent many weekends antiquing and going to garage sales to find hidden treasures.  As one might imagine, his favorite shows on TV were American Pickers, Storage Wars, Gas Monkey Garage and Counting Cars.   He was always out and about, talking to everyone he met.  Arvin was well known and in the past was considered Mayor of West Glens Falls.

Besides his mother, he was predeceased by his son, Andrew Jabot and his dog, Willow.

Those who will miss his smiling face include, his love of 30 years, Regina Jabot of Hudson Falls; his children, Arvin “Pork” Jabot, Jr., Heather Jabot,  Amy Jabot and Aaron Wade Jabot, all of Hudson Falls; his stepson, Norman “Goose” Himes of Hudson Falls; several loving grandchildren and great grandchildren; and his brother, Raymond Adams and his wife, Patricia of Florida.

Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Friday, following the calling hours at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Wagner, pastor of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, officiating.

Following the service, everyone is welcome to Arvin and Regina’s home at 44 County Route 41, in Hudson Falls.

Graveside services will be in the spring at Lynwood Cemetery in Hadley.

The family sends a special thank you to the nurses at the Glens Falls Hospital Infusion Center for the wonderful care and compassion given to Arvin and his family.

HUDSON FALLS – Bryan P. Watkins, 33, of Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully, on Friday, March 6, 2020, with his loving family by his side, at Albany Medical Center.

Born on October 4^th, 1986 in Glens Falls, Bryan was the son of Andy and Lynn (Sipowicz) Watkins. From the moment he was born, Bryan was a fighter, strong in his battles and never giving up.

He was a 2004 graduate of Hudson Falls High School where he had many cherished friends. Bryan continued his education at Adirondack Community College, where he received his Associates Degree.

On September 1^st, 2012, among family and friends, Bryan married the love of his life and his rock, Amanda Palmer. Their love was stronger than all of the health obstacles that stood in their way. Their greatest gift was the birth of their twin girls, Layla and Marley, who were the light of their daddy’s life. He loved being a stay at home dad who was always patient, kind and filled their lives with so much love and fun. He was so grateful when he was able to coach their soccer and softball teams. He truly was the best father, husband and friend.

Music, friends and family were his life. He had music in his soul which resonated through his soothing vocals and guitar playing. Bryan was extremely proud of his band, The Barkeaters, who played at many local establishments. Along with his bandmates, he was always willing to play a benefit to help a fellow warrior.    

Bryan loved listening and jamming to The Grateful Dead. Along with his peeps, he attended many of their shows. One of his fondest trips, at age 17 and much to the disapproval of his mom, was when Bryan and his friends traveled to San Francisco by Greyhound bus to watch them play. He came back safely with many great stories to share with his friends. 

As an avid Buffalo Bills fan, he enjoyed watching their games with his girls all in their Bills t-shirts. Bryan made many trips with family and friends to watch them play. And believe it or not, they always won when he attended the games.

Bryan was a recipient of the South High Marathon Dance twice. This past Friday night, a moment of silence was held in his honor. He was thoroughly moved by the generosity of the kids at South High and all of the selfless donors.

He enjoyed the outdoors where he could walk and tend to his vegetable garden. He grew the best peppers to use in the spicy food that he loved.  Bryan was full of peace and love. He lived his life to the fullest as a fierce fighter but also a gentle spirit.

Bry-Guy, may you play beautiful music and jam with Jerry until we meet again. Know that you are loved, missed and never to be forgotten.

Those left to remember him include his loving and supportive wife, Amanda Watkins of Hudson Falls; his twin daughters, whom he loved with all his heart, Layla and Marley Watkins; his jam partner and father, Andy (Nancy Urso) Watkins of Fort Edward; his mom, from whom he got his strength, Lynn Watkins of Hudson Falls; his one-of-a-kind godmother, Maureen Rossi and godfather, Tom Rossi of Hudson Falls; his two supportive brothers, Brett (Kim) Watkins and their daughter Kalea, of Clifton Park and Bradley (Kaitlin) Watkins and their two daughters, Genevieve and Vivienne, of Hudson Falls; his mother and father in-law, who were always there for him, William and Doreen Palmer of Hudson Falls; his brothers in-law, Michael (Tabitha) Palmer and their children, Joseph and Morgan, of Hudson Falls and William (Nicole) Palmer and their son, William, of Queensbury; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life to honor Bryan will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 21^st, 2020 at the Idle Hour in Fort Edward.

Elizabeth (Kohler) Barnes, 90, of Fort Edward died peacefully in her home on March 5, 2020.  She was born on July 18, 1929 in Paris, NY, the daughter of Joseph H. Kohler and Elizabeth Roberts Kohler, and was a longtime resident of Utica., NY.  She graduated from Chadwicks High School in 1946 and from St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in 1950. She worked as an R.N. at St. Elizabeth’s throughout the 1950’s and in various other Utica area hospitals thereafter. 

In 1952 she married David A. Barnes of Utica who pre-deceased her in 1972. In 1978 she married James H. Zogby, also of Utica, who pre-deceased her in 1986.

She was also pre-deceased by her brothers, John and Joseph Kohler. 

Left to cherish her memory are her devoted children: Deborah Bailey of Hudson Falls, William Barnes of New York City and Jeffrey Barnes (and wife Suzanne) of Hopkinton, MA; 5 treasured grandchildren: Kristen Moore (and husband Leonard) and Matthew Bailey (and wife Kerry Kippert) of South Glens Falls NY, David Bailey (and wife Mary) of Granville, NY and Jacqueline Barnes & Elizabeth Barnes of Hopkinton; and 9 cherished great-grandchildren: Zachary & Kayla Moore; Abigail, Emmitt, James, Carter, Morgan, Jackson & Anthony Bailey. In addition, she leaves behind her dear sister Ethel Rivers and beloved nieces Corrine Martin & Phyllis Roberts of Sauquoit, NY, sisters-in-law Carolyn Campion of Utica and Judith Barnes of Groton, MA, numerous nephews, nieces and cousins, and her many good friends and “Dominoes Family” at The Oaks in Fort Edward. 

Elizabeth was a devout Catholic who attended mass every Sunday until she was physically unable to do so in the last year of her life. She was also a meticulous housekeeper of whose home it was often said, “You could eat off the floor!” She loved dogs, and the breadth of her vast and whimsical collection of dachshund knickknacks was a source of joy to her and everyone who

saw it.  

A self-described tomboy in her youth, she was also an accomplished and fiercely committed athlete who avidly took up tennis in her 40’s, golf and downhill skiing in her 50’s, cross country skiing in her 60’s and continued to make exercise a part of her daily life well into her late 80’s.  

But undoubtedly what was most important to her was her family. She was happiest when surrounded by her children and grandchildren, took great pride in all of their accomplishments and never missed an opportunity to show them affection and love with kind words and heartfelt hugs. 

A funeral mass will be offered at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 2222 Genesee St. Utica, NY on Thursday, March 12th at 11am. The family will receive funeral attendees at the church immediately following the service. There will be no calling hours. 

In lieu of flowers please make donations in Elizabeth’s memory to the American Heart Association or the Fort Hudson Foundation of Fort Edward.

FENIMORE – Albert “Al” H. Varney, Sr, 72, of Ferry Boulevard, went to meet his wife, Lana, on Saturday, March 6, 2020 at his home.

Born on July 22, 1947 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late William Henry and Josephine Frances (Simione) Varney.

Al graduated from South Glens Falls High School.   While in high school, he won many tournaments in wrestling.  Al went to states and was offered a scholarship at Paul Smith College.   Following high school, he attended barber school and later enlisted in the US Navy, where he was the only barber on the ship.  Later in his life, Al opened a barber shop in Hudson Falls.

 Soon after his discharge, Al met the love of his life, Lana Waldron.  They were married on June 22, 1975 at St. Michaels The Archangel Church in South Glens Falls.  They were married 41 wonderful years before her passing in 2016.

Along with his wife, Al opened a pizza shop which also had ping pong tables and pinball machines, which was a fun time in their lives.  During this time, Al and Lana started their family, which multiplied quickly.  Their first set of twins were two girls, Crystal Marie and Jamie Lee, next their son, Albert, Jr, and finally blessed with another set of twins, Ashley and Amber.

Al took great pride in providing and supporting his family, so he began his 30 year career at SCA.   He loved his job and was very proud to have served as treasure of the union.  He was a master of many trades and was very proud to have built his own house.

In his younger years, Al loved listening to and dancing with his wife to the sound of the Beach Boys.  He also enjoyed watching Mash, Stargate, Perry Mason and his favorite, Star Trek on TV.

Al was a wonderful, kind, considerate husband and loving father.  He was a patient man who knew how to handle his four daughters.  His greatest pleasure in life was becoming a grandfather to Rain.   Al also loved working on car engines and was generous in sharing his knowledge with his neighbors.  He was helpful in so many ways to those in need.  Al was loved by his family and friends and will be missed.

Those who are left to grieve include his five children, Crystal Marie Varney and her longtime companion, James Selleck of North Creek, Jamie Lee Varney of Gansevoort, Albert H. Varney, Jr., Ashley A. Varney and Amber Lynn Varney, all of Fenimore; his cherished granddaughter, Rain Lana-Josafine Selleck, his brother, William (Lois) Varney of North Carolina; his niece, Kimberly (Rick) Thomas of Ohio; his nephew, Joseph Varney of Arizona; and several cousins.

Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., on Friday, at St. Michael The Archangel Church in South Glens Falls, with the Rev. Tony Childs, pastor, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will be in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery in South Glens Falls.
