HUDSON FALLS – Cathy A. Chard, 71, of Hudson Falls, went into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, June 25, 2023, with her family by her side, following a very courageous battle with cancer.

Born on May 6, 1952, in Glens Falls. Cathy was the daughter of the late Felix and Agnes (Nolette) Burch.

Cathy attended Queensbury Central High School. She worked in childcare for many years, and she became known to many as Aunt Cathy.

She married William Matthew Chard on September 15, 1990.

Cathy loved taking long rides with her husband. She enjoyed being outdoors, watching flames from a fire while sharing stories and laughter with friends and family. Cathy never had a bad word to say about anyone. She was well known for her red hair, great cooking, and always willing to share. What Cathy loved most was her family.

In addition to her parents Felix and Agnes Burch, Cathy is predeceased by Eileen Mickel, Ricky Burch, and Rose Mary Burch.

Cathy is survived by her loving husband William Chard of Hudson Falls; her daughters Angela Combs of Gansevoort, and Kristie Patterson (Howard) of Saratoga; her stepdaughter Bobbi Jean Jones (Robert Johnsen) of Fort Ann; her loving grandchildren who referred to her as “Mema”, Chad Combs, Patrick Patterson, Jessica Patterson, and Xander Johnsen; her brother Ronald Burch of Glens Falls; her sister Charlotte Barry of Hudson Falls. Cathy is also survived by her lifetime friend Charlie Combs and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 3, 2023, from 11:00 am to 2 pm at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., located at 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A graveside service will immediately follow calling hours at Union Cemetery in the Town of Fort Edward.

Cathy’s family would like to thank the doctors and nurses on Tower 2 at Glens Falls Hospital, the C.R. Wood Cancer Center, and High Peaks Hospice for support and compassion during their difficult time.

HUDSON FALLS – Christopher Micheal Goodness, 12, of Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family and friends, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born May 31, 2011, in Glens Falls Hospital, he was the son of Jessica (Leskow) and Christopher Goodness.

Christopher attended Hudson Falls Middle School, where he had a smile that could light up the room and always worked hard, never giving up on his schoolwork. His kindness and overall positive outlook will be forever remembered. He was a friend to many and appreciated his friends and their encouragement during his battle. Although Christopher was self-sufficient, he knew his best buddies, Landon Sullivan and Christian Cook, were his wingmen. There are memories Landon and Christian will hold on to forever. There will be an empty chair in each classroom for his class, but the memory of Christopher will continue.

Christopher enjoyed being outdoors, including fishing and hiking, playing football, airsoft guns, driving anything motorized, swimming, gaming and listening to music.  He was a lively and clever child who enjoyed spending time with loved ones. Christopher was a connoisseur of many foods, some of his favorites included nacho cheese dogs, sour patch kids, boneless wings, BBQ ribs, smoked BBQ, and so much more.  During family gatherings and social events, wherever the food was, that’s where you’d find Christopher.

Despite battling cancer, he maintained a positive attitude and a contagious smile. He was kindhearted and always willing to help others, even when he wasn’t feeling well. Christopher cherished spending time with his sister and playing with his cousins.  The memories they shared over his lifetime will be carried in their hearts forever. 

Christopher was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Elaine Leskow, and maternal great grandmother, Rose Kirsch, his paternal Great-Grandma and Great-Grandpa Goodness, his paternal great grandma, Lillian McKittrick and Terry “Papa” Allen.

Survivors include his father and mother, Christopher I. Goodness and Jessica R. Leskow-Goodness; his sister, Haylee R. Goodness; his grandparents, Tammy Fitzgerald (Al), Guy Goodness, Cathy “Nanu” Allen; his aunts and uncles, John and Theresa McKittrick, Katie Leskow (Dan), Dave and Jenn Leskow, Daniel and Kelsey Riley, Derick and Audra Goodness, Nick Goodness, Patrick Riley, Danielle and Mack Marshall; his cousins, Carter, Trevor, Taylor, Davie, BrayBray, JM, Joey, Gillian (Logan), Aaron, Chester, Paisley and many others.

QUEENSBURY – June 20th, 2023, two year old, Lucas Jay Sweet passed away in his daddy’s arms due to hydrocephalus. He was surrounded by his family who loved and cherished every precious moment they were granted. There wasn’t a single person who he couldn’t put a smile on their face.

Lucas was born in Glens Falls, on August 29th, 2020, at 8:21 pm. He was born into this world with a purpose. He was and will continue to be our light. He loved Olaf from frozen, music and dancing around the living room in the arms of his mama to Mambo No. 5. When daddy would come home he would light up with smiles. He sure loved to babble and giggle. He enjoyed spending his days with his parents, siblings, family and friends. In this family no one fights alone. Blood doesn’t make us family. Love does and Lucas was sure loved and still will be.

Lucas’ calling hours will be Wednesday, June 28th, 2023, from 10:00 am -12:00 pm at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls. (WARNING It will be open casket.)

He is preceded in death by his baby (big) sister, Maggie Mae Sweet. Lucas’ Great-great grandparents, William and Dorothy Jordan and their infant child, his great-grandparents, Jason (Jay) and Veronica Sweet, Albert and Doris DeRusha, Percy and Florence Denton his Great-Aunt, Patricia Denton (Patty, Pat) and his two older cousins, Nicholas Montello and Zachary Duprey, plus his baby cousin, Nova-May,  and so many more. He was welcomed with open arms.

Lucas is survived by his parents Joseph and Elizabeth Sweet (DeRusha), his three siblings, Victoria (Tory), Veronica (Roni), and Liam; his paternal grandparents, Christina Sweet (Denton), Steven and his wife, Heather Sweet; his maternal grandparents, Sharon Pliscofsky, Timothy DeRusha and his lifelong partner, Katherine Jones (Kathy); his great-grandparents, William and Beatrice Pliscofsky (Jordan);  Followed by many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and more.

There will also be a get together at 10 Willow Street Hudson Falls, after the burial if anyone would like to come it is open to EVERYONE.

HUDSON FALLS – Darlene A Miner, 61 of Hudson Falls, passed away at her home with her loving Fiancé and son by her side Friday morning, June 16, 2023 after a nearly 4 year battle with brain cancer. Darlene fought a brave long battle and was an inspiration to us all.

Born on August 24,1961 in Glens Falls, she was a lifelong area resident and daughter of the late William and Emerentienne (Prevost) Miner. Darlene was a 1979 graduate of Hudson Falls High School. She worked various jobs before becoming a billing and payment analyst for Travelers Insurance from 1988 to 2017, and then for Change Healthcare, retiring in 2019. Darlene loved classic rock music. Her favorite color was blue, and the New York Yankees baseball was a passion she shared with her friends and coworkers. Summer was her favorite time of year where she could often be found at her sister Cindy`s by the pool, making special memories. Chocolate peanut butter ice cream from Martha`s or Rob and Deb’s was her guilty pleasure and lunch at O`Toole`s was always special, but mostly she loved spending time with family and friends. Darlene was a very kind, caring and loving daughter, sister, mother, fiancé, grandmother, aunt and friend who always put others before herself. From working as a single mom and putting herself through school to give her daughter a better life, to helping support her grandsons.

In addition to her parents she is predeceased by two sisters, Donna Bapp and Debbie Mattison.

She is survived by her partner and fiancé, Brian K. Burnett; and son Brian C. Burnett of Hudson Falls; a daughter, Jessica Baker of Wilton; her grandsons, Nathan Morehouse of Brandt Lake, and Christien Rothermel of Wilton; her sisters, Connie Szostak (Chuck) of Pennsylvania, Cindy Perkins (Jimmy) of Hudson Falls, Joanne Murphy, of Fort Ann, and Bill Miner (David) of Hudson Falls;, her aunt, Marie Ward, of Hudson Falls; many nieces and nephews Including her special nieces, Tina Mefford, Michelle Siptak, Robin Hicks and Tammy Barrows; many cousins and her extended Burnett family.

HUDSON FALLS – Leilani Elizabeth Titchen-Studenka, 61 of Hudson Falls, passed away unexpectedly, at her home, on June 7, 2023.

Born on June 9, 1961, in Honolulu, HI, Leilani was the daughter of the late John and Edith (Maxwell) Titchen.

Leilani attended Kalani High School in Honolulu, HI. For many years she worked for the State of New York’s Capital District DDSO in Schenectady as a Development Assistant.

Leilani married the love of her life, James Studenka on November 28, 1992. Together they had their pride and joy, their son, Alexei.

She loved reading, binge watching television with her son, and keeping up on current events. Anyone who knew Leilani knew she was an amazing cook. She loved good food, coffee, her family, and friends.

Leilani was predeceased by her parents John and Edith (Maxwell) Titchen.

Leilani is survived by her loving husband James Studenka of Hudson Falls; her son Alexei Studenka of Hudson Falls; her loving sisters, Carol Yee (Melvin) of HI, Denise Carpenter of FL, Kanani Titchen (Lou) of CA; her loving brother, John Titchen (Laura) of HI; her aunts, Margaret and Alison of Australia and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Leilani is also survived by her soon-to-be great niece.

TROY – Paige Emily Smith, 25, passed away on June 4th, 2023, in Troy, NY.

Born on June 9th, 1997, in Glens Falls, New York daughter to William Smith.

Mother to three of the most beautiful children in the world Isabelle Rose, Carter Jameson, & Jackson Alexander

Isabelle Rose being her first born and her only daughter. Looking just like her mother from the eyes and the hair to the nose and the hands, and right down to the mannerisms. She is the most gorgeous little girl in the world with the biggest heart in the world. She is beautiful, caring, nurturing, kind, and loving just like her mother. It is like looking and seeing a mini-Paige. The second born being Carter Jameson. And the third, who is the baby of the three is Jackson Alexander. Both are the most handsome little boys you will ever see. Truly heart throbs and have the most adorable smiles like their mom. They truly brighten up a room just like she did.

Paige was and always will be remembered as an amazing, fun, smart, intelligent, caring, kind, bubbly, goofy, silly, outgoing, and all-around loving woman, sister, friend, aunt, daughter, and mother. Paige had a smile that truly glowed and would light up a room. Especially when she would look at her three beautiful children. It was hard not to smile when you saw the love she had for them just by her smile. Her babies were and always will be her world. She would do and have done anything in life to keep them safe and protected. To make sure they knew their mom loved them so much. Even now as an angel she will be making sure they are safe, cared for, and always loved. Her true blessing in life was and will always be, being a mom. Her most treasured possessions are her three adorable children. She was proud to be a mom and proud to have the kids that she had. Her children will always be proud they get to call her mom. They will always treasure the love she gave them.

She was more than just a mom.  She was a daughter to a man who loved her dearly. Someone he could go to and she could go to him. The older she was the more their bond grew, and they became more than father and daughter, they became friends. She was a sister, one that you could count on when you needed it, trust with your whole heart, and would be there for you in a heartbeat.  She was an aunt, but that kind of aunt you could tell any secret too and the one that spoiled you more than even your grandparents. She was a friend, that type of friend that never lets you down. She knew how to have a great time and have fun, but when you needed her seriously, she would be there instantly. She was all around an amazing and loving woman that you would be lucky to know. One person in your life you wouldn’t want to let go off. One you would truly be thankful to know and treasure. She was someone who always thought of others. She always wanted to make you smile and would use the silliest snapchat filters for her pictures hoping it would bring you joy. She knew how to stand up for herself and was never afraid to say what was on her mind or how she truly felt. She had a strong drive and radiated great energy.

She loved the fall season but couldn’t wait for summer to go to Hampton Beach located in New Hampshire. It was her favorite place to go, she called it paradise. She loved cooking. It was a passion of hers making food from scratch and trying new recipes her family could enjoy. She loved this one hair style, it involved beautiful curls in it.  It took her a while to get it but when she finally did it looked fantastic. When she had her mind set there was no goal that she herself would not accomplish.

She found passion in nursing and wanted to do it. Helping others, taking care of them, and all around just being her natural nurturing self. She finally achieved her biggest goal and did just that. She was offered a position at one of the largest health care unions called Collar City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on June 1st, 2023. Her hard work and dedication paid off. Her passion became reality.

Paige was someone you will always remember, someone you will always treasure, someone you will always be thankful for, and someone you will always love to have known. Even more would be thankful to have received love from her because her love was rare and special and truly given to the fullest.

HUDSON FALLS – Claire T. Parker, 92, of Hudson Falls, passed away at her home on Saturday, June 10, 2023.

Born on June 21, 1930, in Amesbury, MA, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Eugenie (Houle) Cadotte, Sr.

On April 3, 1947, she married the love of her life, William L. Parker, Sr. in Fort Ann.  He passed away on May 17, 2001.

Claire’s first job was at the lunch counter at Woolworth Department Store in Glens Falls.  Later she worked for Price Chopper and the Joy Store, she enjoyed working and seeing the newest clothes in stock.

She was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls. 

Throughout her life, she was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting her handiwork for her family.  She loved spending time with her family “glamping” in Salisbury, MA, family holiday get-togethers, cookouts and snow birding with her companion, Jim Counters at Port Ritchie, Florida.  Claire had a standing appointment for brunch and shopping every Wednesday with “The Sisters”.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sons, William L. Parker, Jr., and Ronald D. Parker; her sister, Joanne Moffitt and her granddaughter, Theresa A. Mulcahy.

She is survived by her children, Terry Parker of Hudson Falls and Susan M. McDonald and her husband, Jeffrey of Fort Edward; her grandchildren, Peter, Benjamin, Victoria, Brandon, Nathan, Chuck and Ron, Jr.; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; her companion, Jim Counters; her beloved sisters and brother Rita, Lorraine, Gloria and Alfred, Jr.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

GLENS FALLS – Stephen N. Vamvalis, 86, of Glens Falls, passed away peacefully on June 8th at his home. 

Born November 6, 1936, in Goritsa, Greece, he was the son of Nicholas and Antonia Vamvalis. 

Steve and his family came to America on October 2, 1946, to begin a new life.  He was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School in 1956.  After high school he was drafted into the service.  Steve served in the Army from 1956-1958 stationed in Germany.

He was the produce manager for Price Chopper in Glens Falls before he opened Double V dairy twist, which he later developed into the famous Steve’s Place.  He took immense pride in the restaurant which he ran jointly with his sister Christine.

Steve was an avid golfer who cherished his rounds with his numerous golfing buddies and their annual Myrtle Beach trip. He helped start the Super Tuesday classic and was a long-time member of the Glens Falls Country Club. He relished his weekly Monday night dinners at the Montcalm Restaurant with his close friends. 

He is preceded by his parents and his brother Demetrius Vamvalis.

Survivors include his children, Nicholas Vamvalis, Matthew Vamvalis, and Nicole Vamvalis Sherman (Ryan); three grandchildren that he absolutely adored, Stratton Sherman, Owen Sherman, and Lukas Sherman; the mother of his children, Barbara Vamvalis; his siblings, Katina Yavis, Pipitsa Vamvalis, and Christine Vamvalis-Haley (John); as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank High Peak’s Hospice and Landmark for their assistance over the last few months.

HUDSON FALLS – Michele Collins of Hudson Falls, passed away Tuesday morning, June 6, 2023 at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on February 1, 1945, in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Dorothy (Burke) Fox, the second oldest of five girls.

Michele graduated from Cathedral High School in Scranton, PA and continued her education at BOCES and Adirondack Community College.

After graduation, she worked as a buyer at Globe Store, a division of John Wanamaker, in Scranton, PA.   Michele met her husband, Bill, while working at Globe.  For six months they kept it a secret.  He would leave work and drive to her home, while she waited for the bus.  Michele eventually would arrive to find Bill and her father sharing good times.   On April 17, 1971, they were married at the Holy family Church in Scranton, PA.

Michele and Bill moved to Hudson Falls, to take over the family business, Pender/Towly of Hudson Falls.   She helped out in the store for many years, while raising her family.  After her family got older, Michele went into retail with several local stores, Honigsbaums Inc., formerly in Glens Falls, Anne Kline and Cambridge Dry Goods, both at the outlets in Lake George.  In June of 2011, Michele retired as a receptionist at The Landing of Queensbury.

For more than 20 years, she volunteered at the Glens Falls Hospital Guild, Hudson Falls Branch.

Michele has always enjoyed decorating and shopping.  Her family and friends are the center of her life.  Michele loved being around her children and grandchildren.  She also had wonderful times with all her sisters.

Survivors include her husband, William R. Collins of Hudson Falls; her children, Colleen Sauter and her husband, Erin of Cumming, GA., Burke Collins and his wife, Christine of Granville, Kevin Collins of Hudson Falls and Kathleen Rourke and her husband, Dan of Queensbury; her grandchildren, Haily Collins, Mackenzie  Sauter, Will Sauter, Kaelyn Rourke, and Kendall Rourke; her great-grandson, Arden Collins; her siblings, Patricia Sebastian and her husband, John of Havertown, PA, Sharon Gilroy and her husband, James of Covina, CA, and Frances Ruby and her husband, Rick of Scranton, PA; her brothers in law, Gary Kauffman of Naples, FL, Pete and Tina Collins of Cleverdale, and Andy and Nancy Collins of Hudson Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

HUDSON FALLS – Walter E. Case, Sr., 101, of Hudson Falls, went to the happy hunting ground on Monday, June 5, 2023, at his home.

Born on January 19, 1922, in Argyle, he was the son of the late Walter and Mildred (Harrington) Case.

Walter graduated from Argyle High School where he was in the top 10 of his class.

After graduating, he enlisted in the US Army serving from 1944 to 1946.

On October 5, 1946, he married Dorothy ‘Dot” Andrews at the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church.

He worked for many years at Scott Paper in Fort Edward, until his retirement in 1981.

Walter was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Fort Edward.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially bowling.  In 1991, he was inducted into the Glens Falls Bowling Association Hall of Fame.  Walter bowled well into his late 90’s.  He is remembered for being a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather.

He was predeceased by his father Walter Henry Case, his mother, Mildred Sabia, his sister, Irene Gravelle, his niece, Carol Hayes and his great granddaughter, Mia Nassivera.

Walter is survived by his loving wife of 76 years, Dorothy “Dot” Case of Hudson Falls; his four children, Linda (Mickey) McFarren of Argyle, Susan (Alan) Whalen of Hudson Falls, Walter (Brenda) Case, Jr. of Argyle and Kevin Case of Warsaw Poland; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A prayer will follow the calling hours at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

NEW YORK CITY – Lawrence Merritt Maranville, Jr., 86, passed away January 22, 2023, in New York City.

Born November 27, 1937 in Ballston Spa, he was the son of the late Ruth (Palmatier) and Lawrence Merritt Maranville.

Lawrence was a graduate of Burnt Hills Ballston Lake High School.

After high school, Lawrence escaped from upstate New York to seek fame and fortune.  He was cast in Ten Broadway shows, said no to two and appeared in eight.  Some of Lawrence’s many credits include “ No Strings”, “Evita”, “Golden Rainbow”, “Pippin”, “Applause”, “On The Town”, “Dear World” and “No Where to Go But Up’.  He studied with the British American Drama Academy at Oxford.  Lawrence also performed in cabaret in both Paris and the USA.  He made many television appearances and danced with many stars including Ann-Margret, Raquel Welch, Liza Minelli, Anne Bancroft, Lucille Ball and Ginger Rogers.  He choreographed, directed and worked as an actor and singer.  Lawrence had a successful career as a dancer, singer actor that spanned many genres.

Lawrence is survived by his sister, Jean Hayes, and her family.

A graveside service will be conducted at the convenience of the family.

HUDSON FALLS – Truman “Pete” Morgan, of Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 29, 2023, following a long illness, at Glens Falls Hospital with his family by his side.

Born January 9, 1957, Pete was the son of the late Dave and Gabby (Ball) Morgan.

Pete was a private contractor known for being a jack of all trades doing various jobs that included plumbing, construction, and electrical work. Despite his health issues, he was always willing to help out and provide advice and everyone knew Pete could be called if needed. He took considerable pride in his lawn, Pete always paid close attention to detail. He could be seen outside with clippers making sure his lawn was cut perfectly.

Pete was an avid NASCAR fan looking forward to watching the races. He loved relaxing in the evenings by reading old westerns. Most of all, he adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Jeannine Barrett, his brother Tim Morgan, his infant brother, Jimmy Morgan, and his brother-in-law, Allen Cook.

He is survived by his best friend and love of his life for 43 years, Cynthia Morgan; his son, Mark Morgan and his wife, Crystal of Texas; his stepchildren, Stuart Alheim and his wife, Debi, of Fort Edward, Steven Alheim and his wife, Darcy of South Glens Falls, Matt Alheim and his wife, Cindy of Vienna, Virginia, Kim Viele and her husband, Joe of Hudson Falls and Tricia Alheim of Hudson Falls; his sisters, Doreen Bain and her husband, Gary of Queensbury and Tina Cook of TN; his brothers, Scott Morgan and his wife, Jeniene of South Glens Falls and John Morgan of Florida; 16 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Pete’s request, there will be no formal services.

A celebration of Pete’s life will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Glens Falls Hospital ICU and Tower 6 for their care and compassion.

QUEENSBURY – The morning of Sunday, May 14^th, 2023, John R. “Jack” Buchanan passed away peacefully at his home on Glen Lake, he was 93.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jack graduated from Central High School with a Bachelor of Arts degree and proceeded to Wharton Business School. Upon graduation, he went to work for Scott Paper in quality control before joining Finch Pruyn & Company. He spent the rest of his business career at Finch in the printing paper business. His focus was book publishing which meshed well with both his people skills & his lifelong love of words.

To say that Jack was an optimistic person would be an extraordinary understatement; he found sunlight in nearly every moment of every day and made every effort to live all of his moments to their fullest potential. He was a private, gentle soul. In November of 1977, he married his partner in life & dance, Jacqueline K. Buchanan. Together they built a home, a life and quietly supported & enjoyed music, the arts, education & helping other people grow to their potential.

After retirement, Jack & Jackie continued to enjoy travel, dance, music, gardening at their home on Glen Lake and charitable giving.

Jack’s guiding principles can be found in the poem “Desiderata” by Max Ehrmann. He was true to those principles for his whole life, meeting & enjoying people for who they were & where they were at. He believed that people were on the earth to be productive and to contribute in whatever way(s) they were able; and that happiness, peace and self-worth arose out of those contributions. True to form, Jack rarely looked back, understanding that there are always two sides to everyone’s stories and that the most important component for a peaceful life is to accept outcomes & continue to move forward.

He is survived by his daughter Phyllis, her son Peter & his family, her daughter Kristin & her family; his son John and his daughters Torrie, Taylor & Brittany and her family.

The family would like to extend appreciation for all of his caregivers over the last nearly 9 years especially to his long-term caregivers Ashley (Duel) Cook & Amy Shattuck; his life would have been less full without your being there.
