Joseph M. Henderson

HUDSON FALLS – Joseph M. Henderson, Sr., 50, of Combs Avenue, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving son, on Saturday, August 17, 2013.

Born on August 7, 1963, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late James and Shirley (LaRich) Henderson.

Joe attended South Glens Falls High School. He then enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country for four years.

Joe was a construction worker for most of his life. He loved snowmobiling. Joe worked hard and played hard. He enjoyed life, there was never a dull moment. Life was always a lot more interesting, when Joe was near.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Norma Henderson.

Joe is survived by his son, Joseph M. Henderson, II of Hudson Falls; his siblings, Dianne Persons and her husband, Ken of Warrensburg, Jim Henderson of Colorado, Gail Paquette and her husband, Don of Fort Edward and Sam Henderson of Hudson Falls; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Thursday, August 22, 2013, from 11 to 1 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street Hudson Falls.

Memorial services will follow the calling hours on Thursday, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

The family would like to thank Dr. Pillemer and his staff at the CR Wood Cancer Center for the wonderful care and compassion gavin to Joe and his family.

Winfield C. “Windy” Weaver

KINGSBURY – Winfield C. “Windy” Weaver, 82 of Kingsbury, passed away, after a brief illness, on Wednesday, August 14, 2013.

Born on October 7, 1930, Windy, a lifetime resident of the town of Kingsbury, was the first born of Randolph “Hank” and Madalene (Shippey) Weaver.

He was a graduate of Hudson Falls School, class of 1948. Windy had been building up a herd of dairy cows even when he was in high school. He had lots of enjoyment taking his cattle to the county fairs. During that time, he met many friends that he has stayed close to all of these years. Windy was a 4-H leader for a group of boys in the 1950’s. In 1950, he met Phyllis Howe at the Washington County Fair. Two years later, they were married on June 7, 1952 at the Dutch Reformed Church in Fort Miller.

Windy continued with his farm life, loved working the land, raising his cattle, riding his horses, when there was time and raising a family. He taught his children many things about life and the farm. They all grew up to be loving, hard working adults.

One of his dreams was to make a trip to the west. He was able to do that four times. Windy loved collecting old western memorabilia and saddles. He also enjoyed fairs, rodeos, fishing, auctions, family picnics and camping at Putts Pond. We will all greatly miss him. He is going to take that “ride up the trail’ now.

He leaves behind his wife, Phyllis Weaver of Kingsbury; his four sons, Cameron Weaver (Lorie) of Elkhart, IN, Scott Weaver, Randy Weaver (Amy), Donald Weaver and his wife, Margaret, all of Kingsbury; his two daughters, Kathleen Marcantonio and her husband, Terry of Glens Falls and Jerolyn Saunders (Michael) of Kingsbury; his two brothers, Quintin Weaver and his wife, Agnes of Voorheesville and Douglass Weaver and his wife, Sylvia of Kingsbury; his two sisters, Virginia Nowacki and her husband, Michael of Tucson, AZ and Sharron Pesto of Utica; his grandchildren, Tammy, Brian, Candy and Jeanette of Indiana and Derek of Texas, Anna Marcantonio, Taylor and Claire Weaver, Megan and Emily Weaver, Ryan Saunders and Jessica Weaver of Glens Falls and Hudson Falls; his nine great grandchildren in Indiana and two great grandchildren from this area, Gianna Knowlton and Michaella Saunders; one great great granddaughter, of Indiana; many nieces, nephews and cousins, whom he loved very much.

One of the most important services that can be donated is the “gift of life” by donating blood. The family has also asked that memorials in Windy’s name be made to Friends of Hospice, 415 lower Main St., Hudson Falls, NY 12839.

Our thanks to Washington County Hospice for all their good work and to Dr. Gillani, Donna Boss and the nurses at the C.R. Wood cancer Center at the Glens Falls Hospital.

At Windy’s request, there will be no calling hours or services.

We lost a wonderful mother yesterday, August 9. So vibrant during her recent trip with family to the Woods Hole beach house she held so dearly. The salt water cured any ailment in her book and you could be in it for a swim or on it in a boat to take your therapy. She often spoke of sailing with her brother and three sisters in their cherished 25 foot Wianno, the “Whistle Wing” on Vineyard Sound.

Maria La Grange Kidder was born in Orange, NJ on January 7, 1920 to Henry Maynard Kidder and Maria La Grange Duryee. The family later moved to New York City in an age when single family homes were common. She grew up during the depression years and spoke of the shanty towns in Central Park and the great losses people endured. She attended The Brearley School in NYC and later went on to Radcliff College and Columbia School of Architecture.

Mickey, as she was called by her friends and family, would marry late for her day to Erskine Clark Rogers, Jr. on August 7, 1954. Her husband was the influence that brought her to Hudson Falls where she spent the majority of her life raising 6 children; Erskine III, Henry, Thomas, Anne, James and John. She would never stop caring for her children and 7 grandchildren as they were her great source of purpose. She became somewhat of a farmer, pasteurizing milk from the family dairy and growing tomatoes and other vegetables. At the end of every garden row she would plant Marigolds and other flowers for balance and to help fight the omnipresent pests.

Mickey kept her interest in art and architecture alive as a docent at the Hyde Museum of Glens Falls. An avid reader with a good memory for poems, she was a long time member of the American Association of University Women which hosted regular “book clubs”. She could also be counted on to help out at the Presbyterian Church rummage sales. Her love of water and tennis was nurtured at the Glens Falls Tennis and Swim Club where she was a founding member so many years ago. She continued playing tennis well into her 80’s, extending the short Adirondack season a few months each year through an annual trek to Singer Island, Florida.

We will all miss her mild manner and eagerness to please that made her our rock and compass. She brought so many memories into our lives that will live on within all of us who knew her.

Memorial Services will be held on September 1, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in Hudson Falls, New York, with the Rev. Michael Plank, pastor officiating.

Donald C. Geer

Donald Charles Geer (Geerzy) 94, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on August, 9^th 2013.

Born July 25^th 1919, in Kingsbury, he was the son of the late Charles and Jennie (Hammond) Geer.

Donald grew up on a dairy farm in Kingsbury. There he met the love of his life Hylda Marion Lynes. In 1943, they married on a beautiful August day at her parents’ house. They raised their four children in Kingsbury and spent their summers at their cottage, Mi-Hy-Ke on Isom Bay, Lake George. After Hylda retired from teaching, they spent many years at the lake creating memories for the whole extended family to cherish forever.

After working on the farm for many years, he drove school bus for Hudson Falls and Fort Edward. For 49 years, he was a ‘tenacious’ umpire at Jenkinsville Field. The words “close enough” were loudly echoed throughout the fields while he was umpiring. He retired from this career at the ripe old age of 88.

Geerzy enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing. His hunting buddies were his son Tom Geer, old friend, Ralphie Strong, his beloved late nephew, Timmy Pratt and the late great Bob Kilmartin.

Along with his passion for hunting, Geerzy loved to go to diners and mingle with the wait staff, cooks and patrons. When Geerzy went in for breakfast, he came out after lunch. Many stories were told, some true, some hard to believe, but the one thing is for sure, laughs were heard. He enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers, was a closet Red Sox fan and loved watching his grandchildren play sports throughout the years.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 54 years Hylda Lynes Geer, his brother Gerald, his sister Marion Combs, his sister Ellen Mumblo, his nephew Timmy Pratt.

Survivors include; his son David Geer, daughter Donna Geer Wood and her husband David , son Thomas Geer and his wife Toni-Ann, son John Geer and his wife Debbie, his grandchildren, Matthew Wood, Carol Lynn Wood, Randi Geer-White and her husband, Alpha, Jeremiah Geer and his wife Kristine, Jacob Geer, Darci Geer-Brewer and her husband, Ben and Jenni-Lynes Geer and her fiancé Sean Ryan;his great grandchildren Griffin Geer and Nora Geer; his sister Shirley Lappin, his brother John Geer and finally, several nieces and nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 8 P.M. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

A funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Don’s son in law, Rev. David R, Wood, officiating.

Interment will follow at Pine View Cemetery in the town of Queensbury.

HUDSON FALLS –Doris Louise Moreau, 86, of Hudson Falls, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2013, at Fort Hudson Health Care Facility in Fort Edward.

Born on September 4, 1926, in Rumford, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Louise (Blais) Richard.

Doris is predeceased by her husband, Oliver Joseph Moreau, who passed away January 4, 1985

Her family was most important to her.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Alfred Richard and her sister, Arlene Denomme (Callahan)

Survivors include her children; Linda and James Johnston of Hudson Falls, Donna and Mike Graham of Hudson Falls, Robert and Susan Moreau of South Glens Falls, Scott Moreau and Jo-Ann Palmieri of Hudson Falls; her stepson Oliver J. and Manoli Moreau of Spain; her grandchildren Beth Bidwell, James Johnston, Jr., Matt Johnston, Danielle Kuba, Lisa Winter, April Foster, Heather Fisher, Lauren Moreau, Ian Moreau; eleven great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Wayne H. Tanner, 76, of South Glens Falls, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2013, at the Glens Falls Hospital, after a long illness.

Born on August 18, 1936, in Granville, he was the son of the late Harmond and Myrtle (Holcomb) Tanner.

Wayne was a graduate of Granville High School and served with the United States Air Force, in Korea.

On April 6, 1979, he married Dorothy Wildey in Argyle.

Wayne was employed for 31 years at Nibco in South Glens Falls.

He enjoyed fishing, camping, vacations and gardening. Wayne was a family man and will be greatly missed by them.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a stepson, Michael Brayman, a granddaughter, Crystal Brayman and his infant grandson, Joseph Brayman Wayne is also predeceased by a sister Shirley Prehoda.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Dorothy Tanner of South Glens Falls; his children, Brenda Brayman of MA, James Brayman of South Glens Falls, Wanda Huntington and her husband, AJ III of Fort Edward, Teresa Brayman of Hudson Falls, Stephen Brayman, Jr., of South Glens Falls, Nancy Hunt and her husband, Brian of South Glens Falls, Rebecca Smith and her husband, James of Fort Edward and Stephanie Floutin of Fort Edward; his grandchildren, Christina Peelor, Jason Brayman, Aaron Johnson, Timothy Brayman, Matthew Brayman, Shelby Brayman, Logan Brayman, Stephen Brayman, John Snow, Jr., Kristy Knapp, Adam Brayman, Amanda Smith, Michael Smith and James Smith; several great grandchildren; his brother, Ronald Tanner of Granville; a sister, Linda Parillo of Wilton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

American Legion Post 574 of Hudson Falls will hold services at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Prayers will be said on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Gansevoort Cemetery, with full military honors, provided by The Hudson Falls American Legion Post # 574.

Estella Lenora Danahy

HUDSON FALLS – Estella Lenora Danahy (nee Gerhauser), 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 7th at Kingsway Arms Nursing Home in Schenectady, NY.

Mrs. Danahy was born in Glens Falls, to Foster Gerhauser and Estella Billings Gerhauser, who died in childbirth. Mrs. Danahy was raised by her grandmother, Nellie Billings and by her aunts, Amy DeGuire and Nellie St. John.

Estella graduated from Glens Falls High School’s Class of 1944. After high school, she went to work as an executive secretary in the offices of the Imperial Paper Co. (later Hercules Inc/Ciba Geigy Corp), where she met, and later married Lawrence C Danahy on May 26, 1951. The Danahy’s lived in Hudson Falls their entire married life, fifty-five of those years at 137 Maple Street. Mrs. Danahy left her job in 1953 to become a full-time homemaker and raise their two children, which she found very fulfilling. Mr. Danahy predeceased his beloved wife of 58 years in 2010.

Estella Danahy is survived by two children, Elaine J. McVoy (Gary) of Slingerlands, and Kevin L. Danahy (Barbara Hyland) of Colonie; her four much-loved grandsons, Matthew McVoy of Glenmont, Alan Danahy of Columbia, SC, Ryan Danahy of Astoria, Queens, and Brian McVoy (Amy Downey) of Delmar, as well as the newest addition to the family, their daughter and her beloved first great-grandchild, Elizabeth Rachel McVoy.

An avid fan for many decades, Mrs. Danahy never missed an opportunity to watch NY Yankees and NY Giants games with her husband, son, and grandsons. She was also an accomplished seamstress who made beautiful custom clothes for herself and her daughter for many years. Throughout her life, Estella was very creative and enjoyed artistic past-times such as ceramics, oil painting and watercolors. Over the years she painted many beautiful nature scenes which adorn the walls of her children’s and grandchildren’s homes. And she made her daughter and daughter-in-law each a set of Christmas Nativity Scene figurines which are among their most prized possessions.

Calling hours will be held at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Friday, August 9^th.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., following the calling hours at St. Mary/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls.

Ruth (Phillips) Jones

HUDSON FALLS – Ruth (Phillips) Jones, 78, of Perkins Drive, went to be with the Lord, on Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on October 1, 1934 in Fort Miller, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Anna (Benway) Phillips.

Ruth was a 1953 graduate of Fort Edward High School and on November 29, 1961, she married Everett W. Jones in Lakeville, CT.

Throughout her life, she was employed as a secretary in different places. Ruth started out her career at New York Telephone Company in Glens Falls and then went on to work in Research and Development for the Federal Government in New Mexico. She also was employed at Diamond Point Lumber Company in Queensbury and Warren Washington BOCES in the Special Education Office. Ruth ended her working career at Fort Hudson Nursing Home in Fort Edward and retired from Washington Correctional in Comstock.

Ruth was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls. Her faith was an important part of her life.

Her pastimes included reading, traveling and spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. Ruth’s family was the center of her life and she will be greatly missed by her family and her friends. She also loved to travel throughout the area and North America. Her favorite destination was Nova Scotia. Pets were also important to her. Ruth loved all her dogs and her cats.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her three brothers, Ernest Jones, Louis Phillips, Jr. and William Phillips.

Survivors include her loving husband of 51 years, Everett W. Jones, Sr. of Hudson Falls; her son, Everett W. “Charlie” Jones, Jr. of Hudson Falls; her daughter, Jenny A. Allen and her husband, Dale of Hudson Falls; four grandchildren, Michael E. Allen of Hudson Falls, Alexander W. Jones, Emma K. Jones and Madilyn E. Jones, all of South Glens Falls; a sister, Shirley M. Varney and her husband, Nelson “Ed” of Hudson Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Rite of Committal will be private at St. Joseph’s Cemetery on Burgoyne Ave. in Fort Edward.

Edward Patrick Corrigan

HUDSON FALLS – Edward Patrick Corrigan, 72, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2013, at his sister’s home, in Hudson Falls, after a short bout with cancer.

Born on January 29, 1941, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Alphonse and Catherine (Gorham) Corrigan.

Edward proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps. While serving his country, he rose to the rank of Lance Corporal. Following his tour of duty, he was employed at General Electric Company in Hudson Falls and Fort Edward. Edward retired from GE, after 35 years of service.

He loved antiquing all over this area and in Vermont. Edward also enjoyed walking and riding his bike along the Feeder Canal Path. He loved spending his time outdoors. Edward was greatly loved and will be missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his sister, Constance Smith of Hudson Falls; his nephews and niece, Robert Smith of Queensbury, Susan Smith of Hudson Falls and Michael Smith and his wife, Anne of Hudson Falls; and his great nephews, Paul, Anthony and Dana.

At Edward’s request there will be no calling hours or public services.

A graveside service will be private at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Roxanne “Gram” Weller

GANSEVOORT – Roxanne “Gram” Weller, 72, passed away peacefully, in her sleep at home, early in the morning on August 4^th.

Born on November 27, 1940, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Francis and Rilla Ruddy.

Roxanne graduated from Kubaski American Dependent School in Okinawa, Japan, class of 1958.

On March 21, 1959, in Fairhaven, VT, Roxanne married Lester Weller. Together they raised four boys in Gansevoort.

Roxanne served as a childcare provider for 10 years at the Moreau Community Center and worked as a teacher’s aid for the South Glens Falls School District, for 39 years, at Ballard Road Elementary School.

Roxanne was an amazing woman, who took pride in being able to do things that not everyone else could do, for example, raising four boys. In the early 60’s, she raced her 1956 Pontiac and went four years undefeated. She was also proud to say, that she was the first woman baseball coach at Moreau Rec.

Roxanne was known as the woman who was always cheering in the stands. Whether it was for her children, grandchildren, or just a kid she knew, she was everyone’s biggest fan. For her dedication to bulldog pride and spirit, Roxanne is being recognized as a 2013 Bulldog Hall of Fame inductee. She was also known for her many years of devotion to the South Glens Falls Wrestling Program.

Other than her parents, Roxanne was predeceased by her mother and father-in-law, Lena and Howard Weller, along with her son, Darwin Weller.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Lester Weller; her sons, Kelly Weller and wife, Valarie, Howard Weller and fiancé, Lisa Carpenter, and Shawn Weller and girlfriend, Cheryl Belcher; her daughter-in-law, Carrie Weller; and her grandchildren, who were the center of her world, Lester and girlfriend, Logan Coltey, Shawn and girlfriend, Kayt McCormick, Ashley and boyfriend, Tom LaFountain, Hannah, Cameron and girlfriend, Devin Smith, Carly, Darwin, and Dillon.

Friends and family may call on Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Following the calling hours, all are welcome to the home of Howard Weller and Lisa Carpenter, at 38 Chestnut Street in South Glens Falls.

Roxanne would like to thank her family, friends and Community Hospice of Saratoga, for all of their love and support through her battle with cancer, words can not explain how much it all meant to her.

Mary P. Gilmour

HUDSON FALLS – Mary P. Gilmour, 91, of Main Street, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at Great Barrington Rehab and Nursing Center in Massachusetts.

Born on October 18, 1921, in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Anna (Dowd) Sweeney.

Mary was a graduate of Bishop McGinn High School in Brooklyn. She met the love of her life, Stephen “Steve” Gilmour at a high school dance. They were married the day after her 18^th birthday, October 19, 1939 and shared 59 wonderful years together before his death, in 1998.

Mary lived for many years on Long Island, where her and her husband raised their children. When Steve retired, they moved to Texas. After his death, in 1998, Mary returned to New York.

She was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis and a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church. Her faith was important to her. God was the center of her life. Mary also loved listening to music, dancing, singing and whistling.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her three sons, Paul Gilmour, who passed away in 1997, Chris Gilmour, who died in 2001 and Tom Gilmour, who passed away in 2007, and several brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her three children, Arlene Ennis and her husband, John of Long Island, Stephen Gilmour, Jr. and his wife, Kathy of PA and Regina Newell and her husband, Robert of Hudson Falls; her daughter in law, June Gilmour of California; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and her nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11a.m. on Tuesday, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, on the park in Hudson Falls, with the Reverend Thomas Babiuch, pastor, officiating.

Donations in Mary’s memory may be sent to the charity of your choosing.
