Walter Jay Deyoe

DeyoeGANSEVOORT – Walter Jay Deyoe, 86, of Gansevoort, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at Washington Center in Argyle.

Born on February 20, 1930, in Kingsbury, he was the son of the late Leona Gonyea and raised by his grandparents, the late John and Edna Deyoe.

He was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School.

On April 30, 1950, he married Teresa Picheo at St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls.

Walter worked for many years as the Produce Manager for Price Chopper in Glens Falls.

He loved woodworking and most of all, the time he spent with his children and grandchildren.

Walter was a past member of the Eagles Aerie in South Glens Falls and served as their President in 1985.

His brothers, Hilon and Erwin Potter, a sister Ruth Beames, and his daughter, Robin predeceased him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Teresa (Picheo) Deyoe of Gansevoort his children, Carol Brooks and her husband, Jerry, Kathy Deyoe and her companion Wally Swinton, Jayne Relyea and husband Bill (deceased), Tony Deyoe and his companion, Melva Hughes, Nancy Swinton and her husband, Don, Patti Meyers and her husband Rick, Ken Deyoe and his wife, Patty, Peggy Blaise and her husband, Virgil, Ann Jones and her husband, J.P. and Walt and Teresa’s special son, Peter; a sister, Beverly Duggan; 19 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls with the Rev. Tony Childs, pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Church officiating. Following the service family & friends are invited to a celebration of Walter’s life at Ken and Patty’s home, 96 Fourth St., Glens Falls.

Burial will take place at the convenience of the family at Moss Street Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.

Walter’s family suggests that memorial donations in his memory be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Shirley J. (Stewart) Moss

MossHUDSON FALLS – Shirley J. (Stewart) Moss, 80, longtime Hudson Falls resident and beloved mother to many, passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 25, 2016 16, joining her husband, Fred for their 61st wedding anniversary on June 26, 2016.

Born on January 2, 1936, in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Emma (Ferguson) Stewart.

Shirley was a 1953 graduate of Fort Edward High School.

She worked for a while at Continental insurance in Glens Falls before becoming a full time mother and homemaker.

In 1955, she married Frederick Moss, Sr. at St. James Episcopal Church in Fort Edward.  Her husband passed away January 18, 1994.

Shirley was a longtime member of St. James Episcopal Church.  She also served with the Hudson Falls Volunteer Fire Departments Ladies Auxiliary as well as the Kingsbury hose Company Ladies Auxiliary.  For over 25 years she served as chairperson of the Fresh Air Fund and she was well known for her association with that organization.   She spent many years as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and also enjoyed crocheting, bowling and playing the organ.  Most important was her family and that included any one in need of anything.  Shirley Moss never met a person she didn’t like and there was always room for one more!

In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by two sons, Keith Moss and Frederick Moss, Jr, a grandson, Anthony Paul Moss, a sister, Alice Chakalis, two brothers, Robert Mylott and William Mylott and a niece, Vanessa Howk.

Survivors include her children, Candace Morehouse and her significant other, Terry Morehouse of Queensbury, Paul Moss and his wife Irene of Salem, George Moss of South Glens Falls, Tamela Moss of Hudson Falls, Pamela Dowd and her husband, Derrick of Hudson Falls, Tanya Moss of Hudson Falls, Melanie Liles and her husband, Donald of Hudson Falls; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, her brothers, Walter Mylott of Fort Edward and Ronald Stewart of Queensbury; a daughter in law, Jeanne Moss Tackett and her husband Jeffery of Queensbury. She is also survived by four people she considered daughters, Laura Roccasecca, Annie Kresse and her husband, Ken and Eydie Putnam and her significant other, Paul and Marianne Burnham of Hudson Falls.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

A Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. James Episcopal Church on Broadway in Fort Edward.

Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Shirley’s family suggests that memorial donations be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Adoniram Joseph “AJ” Huntington

HunningtonFORT EDWARD – Adoniram Joseph “AJ” Huntington, III, 59, of McCrea Street, passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, June 20, 2016, at Albany Stratton Veteran’s Medical Center in Albany.

Born on October 16, 1956, in England, was the son of “AJ” Huntington, Jr and Doreen (Lupton) Sisler.

AJ was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp.  While serving in the Marine Corp., he worked hard to obtain his GED.  Following his honorable discharge, he lived in Greenville, N.C. for several years, where he was employed at a local grain factory.  AJ then decided to come back home to Hudson Falls in order to be close to his family roots.  Then he began his lifelong passion of being a chef.    AJ loved working at  Applebee’s from 1998, until his retirement in 2012.

After moving back home he met the love of his life, Wanda Brayman while working at his father’s restaurant in Hudson Falls.  After being together for 10 years, they married on June 20, 2008, for a total of 18 wonderful years.

AJ enjoyed bowling in area tournaments.  He was an avid NASCAR fan and especially enjoyed watching Jeff Gordon.   AJ also loved hunting with his brothers in the Adirondacks and fishing with his wife at different local spots.  He also was an great fan of General Hospital, and during the show, he would call his mother to compare notes.  But, he was not allowed to tell his wife what happened because she would watch it later.  AJ was also a lifelong proud member of the Hudson Falls American Legion Post 574.

Most of all, he loved his family and was very close to his grandchildren.  AJ took them on many wonderful local adventures.  He also loved his dogs “Bear” his boy, Daisy Lu and his grand-doggies.  AJ enjoyed traveling with his wife to see his sister, Theresa in San Antonio, Texas.  He was a wonderful husband, great father, adoring grandfather and was always there for his brothers and sisters.  AJ will be remembered for being full of jokes and love, and will be greatly missed by his family and all those who were close to him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Huntington of Fort Edward; his mother, Doreen Sisler of Ill; his father,  AJ Huntington, Jr and his wife, Ella of Hudson Falls; his children, “AJ” Huntington, IV of Glens Falls, Brandy Wilson and her husband, Brandon of N.C., Christopher Huntington of NY, Stephen Brayman and his fiancée, Crystal Burdick of Fort Edward, John Snow, Jr. of South Glens Falls and Kristy Knapp and her husband, Chris of Hudson Falls; his 10 grandchildren, Morgan Knapp, Alyssa Knapp, Destiny Snow, Alana Snow, Stephen (Brayman), LaPlant, Eli Brayman, Hannah Wilson, Brandon Wilson, Jr., Rosemary Huntington and Adriana Huntington; his siblings, Kevin Huntington and is companion, Tina Weatherwax of Hudson Falls, Steven Huntington and his wife, Donna of South Glens Falls, Theresa Salaiz and her husband, Daniel, San Antonio, TX, and Linda Kress and her husband, Douglas of Ill; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, at the funeral home, with the Reverend Thomas Babiuch, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will follow at Gansevoort Cemetery in Gansevoort, with full military honors provided by the Hudson Falls American Legion, Post 574 Color Guard.

Following the burial, all are welcome to a reception at the Hudson Falls American Legion, Post 574, 92 Pearl Street in Hudson Falls.

Catherine A. Prevost

PrevostGLENS FALLS – Catherine A. Prevost, 76, of Ash Avenue, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2016, surrounded by her loving family, at the home of her son, after a brief battle with cancer.

Born on March 29, 1940, in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Daniel W. and Doris (Burch) Kennedy.

For the past 30 years, she has been loved and supported by her life partner, Peter Dudley.

Catherine enjoyed working as an aide with TLC, this job enabled her to meet and care for many people, who became her friends.  Catherine also loved country music and was a member of two different country music fan clubs, the New Country Fan Club and RGLB Westenders Fan Club.  Most of all, family was the center of her life, she adored her children and grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Raymond Anderson and her daughter, Lisa Streeter.

She is survived by her loving partner, Peter Dudley of Glens Falls; her son, Roger Prevost and his wife, Nicole of South Glens Falls; her seven grandchildren, Geoff Holmquist and his wife, Stephanie, Kristin Anderson, Michael Streeter, Brooke Prevost, Rebecca Streeter, Brody Prevost and Brennan Prevost; one great grandson, Raymond; and her cousin Betty Spagna.

Friends may call on Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 am  at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will follow the calling hour at 12 noon on Thursday at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls.

FORT EDWARD – Liam Francis Mitchell, went into the arms of the Lord at his birth on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

His loving parents are Kenneth and Tina (Heuser) Mitchell of Fort Edward.  Liam will always be loved and his family treasures the time he was on this earth.

In addition to his loving parents, he is survived by his brother, Landon Mitchell of Fort Edward, his maternal grandparents, Harold Heuser and his girlfriend, Ellie Pack of Granville and Patricia Curry of Johnstown; his paternal grandparents, Timothy and Patricia Mitchell of Fort Edward; his aunts and uncles, Bradley Dingman, Jr., John Dingman, Bonnie Carpenter, Harry Dingman, Myria Short, Timothy Mitchell and Caleb Dennison; and several cousins.

Graveside services will be conducted 10 a.m. on Friday, at Sciota Cemetery on Wade Road in Whitehall.

Clara L. “Cow” Derusha

DerushaGANSEVOORT – Clara L. “Cow” Derusha, 66, of Stump Street, passed away at her home, on Sunday, June 19, 2016.
Born on May 4, 1950, in Whitehall, she was daughter of the late Adelord and Lillian (Valley) Caprood.

On July 2, 1969, she married Merle Derusha. He passed away in 1979, leaving her as a single parent to raise her three children.

Clara spent most of her life taking care of others. She raised her own children with the help of her longtime companion, Richard McKittrick, Sr. She also helped raise her step-children and grandchildren. Clara made sure anyone that walked through her door was instantly family and she would take them under her wing.

She enjoyed fishing in South Bay and Lake Champlain. Clara also loved her dogs, especially Bob Marley and her mangy black cat, Beulah. She also was very good at playing computer games and spent some time being a Facebook “stalker”. She also was an avid cow collector.

In addition to her parents, husband and companion, Richard, she was predeceased by her sister, Beverly Gordon.

She is survived by her children, Walter B. Caprood, Sr., and his wife, Debra of Fort Edward, Judy Knapp of Glens Falls, April Wheeler and her husband, Jeffrey of Argyle and Maria Tatsey of Saratoga Springs, Richard McKittrick, Jr. of Salem and David McKittrick, also of Salem; her grandchildren, Effie Derusha, who has been her faithful caregiver for the past 12 years, Michael Derusha and his fiancé, Lindsey Middleton, Justin Derusha and his companion, Nancy Rafferty, Floyd Knapp, Tiffany Knapp, Tiffany Miller, Walt B. Caprood, Jr., Lillian Caprood, Christopher Caprood, Makayla Caprood, Owen Ball, Joseph Ball, Alexander Williams, Jessie Derusha,  Jeffrey Wheeler, II, Emma Wolfe and Alice Sousie; her great grandchildren, Gavin, Clara, Noel and Damien and several other great grandchildren; her brothers and sisters, Donnie Caprood, Ray Caprood, Walter Caprood, Mildred Palmer, Dora Wall and Jackie Barber; her sister in law, Margaret McDuff; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Roland R. Giroux

Giroux Giroux NavyHUDSON FALLS and FORT EDWARD – Roland R. Giroux, 88, of Lower Main Street in Hudson Falls, went to heaven on Monday, June 13, 2016, after a long illness.

Born on December 6, 1927, in Montpelier, VT, he was the son of the late Adolphe and Leontine Giroux.

Roland enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country from 1945 to 1947.

On August 22, 1959, he married Jeannine Lacroix.  They have shared almost 57 years together.

Roland was a master stone cutter and was the proud owner of Loiselle Memorials since 1963.  He was a talented carver and many of his beautiful stones can be seen in area cemeteries. Roland’s sons Alan and Daniel enjoyed accompanying him on job sites. In his younger years, Roland worked as a commercial fisherman for three years in Alaska.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s /St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls, where he served as an usher.  Roland enjoyed hunting and fishing, mostly in Vermont and Canada and loved cross country skiing.  Roland was a unique, talented and determined man.  When the chips were down, you could always count on him.  His greatest joy and pride in life was being a husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Juliette and his brother, Denis.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannine; his sons, Alan, Daniel and his wife, Lisa; his grandchildren, Daniel P. and Rachel E; his siblings, Clement Giroux and his wife, Norma, Pauline LaPerle and her husband, Robert and John Paul Giroux and his late wife, Sherry; several brothers and sisters in law; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be on Friday, June 24, 2016, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home. Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Saturday, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls.

Shirley J. Sherman

IMG_0719QUEENSBURY – Shirley J. Sherman, 85, laid down her cutting scissors for the last time on June 15, 2016.

Shirley was born in Granville on January 14, 1931. The family later moved the Glens Falls where she graduated from Glens Falls High School and took a job at Kresge’s Department Store.

She and her husband Robert married and they raised two sons and a daughter in South Glens Falls before moving to their dream home in the town of Adirondack in 1975. After Robert passed in 1991 Shirley returned to the area, taking a job at So-Fro Fabrics in Queensbury, where she shared her love of crochet and needlepoint with many loyal customers. Shirley worked for Wal-Mart for 18 years.

Shirley made many friends there and will always be remembered as someone who loved good conversation over a hot cup of coffee (usually with a cigarette, before she quit in 2012). Her no-nonsense attitude and wry sense of humor will be missed by her many friends and her family.

In passing, Shirley joins her husband Robert, her mother Marnette and Alfred Hance, and her sisters Lillian Dunlevy and Alberta Cavanaugh, her brother Billy Hanse and her grandson Christopher Sherman.

She is survived by her brother, Robert Hance and his wife Betty; her son, Wade and his wife Jeanne; her daughter, Valerie Finkbeiner and her husband Kim; her son Joel and his wife Martha; she was also the proud grandmother of six grandchildren; and four great-grand-children; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be missed.

Services will be held in private.

Shirley’s family would like to acknowledge the care and compassion of the staff at the Stanton Nursing Center.

JamesQUEENSBURY – Bentley James Condon, 4 months, the infant son of Brandon Nelson and Faith Abrams of Queensbury, went into the arms of the Lord on June 11, 2016.

He was born on February 21, 2016.

Bentley was a happy baby who was always smiling and laughing.

He is predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Gail Clark.

In addition to his parents, Brandon Nelson and Faith Abrams of Queensbury, he is survived by his sister, Ariana Condon; his maternal grandparents, Katina Condon and Kevin Abrams; his paternal grandparents Candy and Brian Morgan; his paternal great-grandfather, Bob Clark; his maternal great-great grandparents, Clark and Sarah Condon; his aunts, Hope Abrams and Danika Morgan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

lanfearHADLEY – Catherine Marie Lanfear, 53, passed away on Tuesday June 14, 2016 at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on March 27, 1963, in Peekskill, NY she was the daughter of Richard Gilbert and Patricia Kenneally. Catherine was married to John C. Lanfear on January 13, 1998, in Hudson Falls.

Catherine enjoyed spending time knitting, painting, crocheting and baking.

She was predeceased by her step-father, Richard P. Kenneally.

She is survived by her father, Richard P. Gilbert of Peekskill; her Mother, Patricia M. Kenneally of Argyle; her husband John C. Lanfear; her daughter Carlotta A. Gilbert of Hadley, her five sisters and one brother: Dawn M. Gilbert of Hadley, Brenda L. Gilbert of DeKalb, IL, Colleen Deronda of Walden, Kelly Dickerson of Fayetteville, PA, Patricia A. Kenneally of Queensbury and Joseph A. Kenneally of Hartford; along with her three nieces, Mariah, Phairen, Teayonna; and three nephews: Timothy, Jacob and Junior; her aunt and uncle Linda and Leo Santiago; and many cousins of Peeskill.

Constance M. Gleason

GLENS FALLS – Constance M. Gleason, 59, a native of Glens Falls, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016, at her home.

Born September 10, 1956, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Gleason and Anne Elizabeth (Massita ) Gleason.

Constance enjoyed working for the State of New Hampshire as a Vocation Rehabilitation Secretary.  This position allowed her to meet many politicians, including President George H.W. Bush, Sr.

She owned and operated Ideal Market in Concord, NH for several years, until her illness forced her to close.  Constance fought Dystonia for many years until she lost her battle on Monday.  She loved spending time with family and grandchildren.  Constance also enjoyed, playing bingo, garage saleing, crocheting and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren.  She also enjoyed loving on her dog, Milo and her cat, Whiskers.  The most important thing that anyone would want you to know about her, is that she was an amazing mother and sister.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sister Julie Wood, her son Walter Potter and nephew Danny DeSantis

She is survived by her three children, Tammie Gill and her significant other, Arthur Almy of Hadley, Vincent Potter and his wife, Andrea of Hudson Falls and Vernon Potter and his wife, Jessica of Lake Bomoseen, VT; her eight grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; her brothers, Raymond Gleason and his significant other, Linda Bryant of Glens Falls and Ralph Gleason of Glens Falls; her sisters, Linda DeSantis and Doug Wood of Lake Luzerne, Laurie Roccasecca and her significant other, Doug Davis of Fort Edward and Patricia Hermance and her husband, Mike; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and many others who loved her; and Victor Z. Potter, whom she was able to reconcile with after 30 years; and her step-son, Victor Z. Potter, Jr. of Glens Falls.

James L. Palmer

PalmerGRANVILLE – James L. Palmer, 71, Of Granville, passed away in the loving arms of his wife Lucinda, with his beloved family surrounding him on Friday, June 10, 2016.

Born on March 16, 1945, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Harry Palmer.

Jim proudly served the United States Navy during the Vietnam war, serving on the USS Sarabachi and the USS Neosho.

On May 21, 1983, he married Lucinda Lefebvre at Harrisena Church in Queensbury.

He served as a custodian for the South Glens Falls School System for over 30 years.

Jim loved the Lord and he knew he could pray anywhere, especially at home. He loved cars, his dog Camelot and making sure everyone had a fresh cup of coffee. Most of all, Jim loved the time spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lucinda Palmer of Granville; his children, Gregory Scott Palmer and his fiancé, Donna of Glens Falls, Corina Boyer and her husband. Jason of Hudson Falls, Donald Eugene Palmer and his wife, Regina of Fort Ann, Jillian Bonds and her husband, Chris of Omaha, Arkansas; his grandchildren, Bradford, Alex, Kayelee, Maddy, Lauren and Lewis Boyer, Makayla Palmer, Izabel Palmer and Isaac Wadsworth; his extended family, Janet VanGuilder and Judy and Peter Carr. Jim was a wonderful foster father to many children, “He was the best!”

A graveside service, with military honors will take place on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery on Duel Rd in the town of Stillwater.

Rock, RonHUDSON FALLS – Ronald P. Rock, Sr., 65, passed away at his home in Hudson Falls, on Saturday, June 11, 2016.

Ron was born on August 24, 1950, in Glens Falls to the late Ross and Sophia (Flores)Rock.

On July 1, 1969, Ron was joined in marriage to Barbara Fuller at St. Mary’s Church in Ticonderoga, NY.

He loved hunting, fishing, and camping and worked at various place throughout his life including: The Container Corporation, Montgomery Wards, Adirondack Fish Company, Scott Paper, Encore, and the BioTech Mill in Salem.

Ron is predeceased by his father Ross Rock Sr., His mother, Sophia (Flores) Rock; his brothers, John Rock and Ross Rock Jr., his sisters Sylvia Breton and Donna Rock Maclemore, and also Baby Rock whom passed at the time of birth.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years Barbara Rock of Hudson Falls; his daughter Tammy Yell and her companion, Jerry Mattison of Hebron, along with their daughter Zoey Flint; his son Ronald P. Rock Jr. and his wife, Amy of Beverly Hills, FL.; his Grandchildren: Ronald P. Rock III and his wife, Tori of Texas, Amanda Renaud and Ralph King along with their children: Daygon King, Payton King, Brady King, and Sami Jo King; Micheal Yell and his son, Noah Yell; and Tyler Yell; his two brothers, Lloyd Rock and his wife, Ann of Glens Falls, William Rock and his wife, Judie of Hudson Falls; along with several cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Church on Broadway in Fort Edward with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor officiating.

The Rite of Committal will take place at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations in Ron’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
