Eileen (VanDoran) Courville

HARTFORD – Eileen (VanDoran) Courville, 69, of Camp A Way, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 25, 2017.

Born on May 21, 1947 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late James and Jane (Berrigan) VanDoran.

Eileen attended Hudson Falls High School and worked at several jobs throughout her life, retiring from Covidien in Argyle.

In 1990, Eileen was united in marriage to Mark Courville in Hudson Falls.

She was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls. Eileen loved reading fiction novels, planting flowers, gardening, playing cards, and her morning Yahtzee games over a cup of coffee. She enjoyed barbeques and camping with her family. Most of all, Eileen loved the fresh air and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Eileen was predeceased by her brother, James VanDoran.

Survivors include her husband, Mark Courville of Hartford; her three children, Anthony McIntosh and his life partner, Annie Phillips of Hudson Falls, Andrew McIntosh of Glens Falls, and Todd McIntosh and his wife, Mary of Hampstead, N.C.; her five grandchildren, Ashley Smith and her husband, Leeland, Angela McIntosh, Toni McIntosh, Zachary McIntosh and Hailey McIntosh; three great-grandchildren, Jaylin Santana, Kamrin McIntosh, and Kaiden Collins; her sister, Pat Burch and her husband, Ron of Queensbury; her two brothers, John VanDoran and his wife, Chris of Pulaski, TN, and Philip VanDoran of Glens Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc. at 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A funeral service will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Sunday, following calling hours at the funeral home with the Reverend Thomas Babiuch, officiating.

Rite of Committal will take place in the spring at Union Cemetery in Fort Edward.

HUDSON FALLS – Patricia “Pat” Jones , 79, previously of Hudson Falls, died peacefully on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at Albany Medical Center with her loving daughter, Darlene by her side.

Born on December 26, 1937, in Vermont, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Ducharme and Thelma Palmer. Pat was raised by her mother and grandparents, Clifford and Agnes Palmer.

Pat spent most of her childhood in the Wells, Vt and Granville areas and is where she eventually met the love of her life George “Red” Jones. They married on May 12, 1957 in Granville and later moved to Preston St. in Hudson Falls, where they spent many happy years raising their three daughters. They eventually moved to the West Pawlet area after building their dream home log cabin spending only a few short years there before returning to the Kingsbury area. After 32 blessed years of marriage, Red passed away suddenly on November 3, 1989.

Pat worked for many years at C.R. Bard in Queensbury where she made many lifelong friends.
After retiring she eventually moved to Florida where she spent several years enjoying the warm, sunny days with her beloved sister, Sandy and brother-in-law, Dodge. She made many new and lasting friendships while in Florida before returning home to be closer to her daughter, family and friends.

Pat enjoyed dancing, swimming, reading, shopping, going with her brother in-law for their weekly outings for breakfast and Friday night pizza, traveling with her close friend, Sandy for car rides and stopping for an occasional fish fry, playing cards with her friend, Jan and always looked forward to her weekly hair appointment with her longtime friend, Charro. Pat was a fun loving, feisty and easy to be around mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She will be sadly missed by all she has touched.

In addition to her grandparents, parents and husband, Pat was predeceased by her brother, Bruce Nettleton.

Survivors include, her daughters, Debra (Joe) Chapman, Donna (Cliff) Edgerly and Darlene (Ray) Fischer; her grandchildren, Justin, Jennifer and Stan, Jared and his wife Marissa, Derek and Samantha; 2 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Barry Nettleton, Cheryl Dilley, Sandra Watkins, and Gail Plude; brother in-law Dodge Watkins; sister in-law Lynn Nettleton; uncle Milford Palmer; several nieces, nephews and cousins; her very close friends Sandy Butler, Jan Ladeau and Charro Viger and her beloved grand-dog, Harlee.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10 A.M. on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc,. 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A burial will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Sharon A. Bailey

GLENS FALLS – Sharon A. (Streeter) Bailey, 72, of Knight Street, went peacefully with the angels, surrounded by her family at her home on Wednesday, March 1, 2017.

Born on August 15, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Harold C. and Florence M. (Jennings) Streeter.

Following graduation in 1962 from Queensbury High School, she began her working career in the insurance industry.

On August 6, 1966, she married Robert H. Bailey. They shared 17 loving years together before he passed away on April 19, 1983.

After her marriage, Sharon was the personal chef for the Warden at Great Meadow Correctional Facility in Comstock and then a stay at home mom. When her children were older, Sharon began working for Petrolane Gas and remained there for several years. She retired from Northern Mechanical Services in Queensbury. The retired life did not sit well with Sharon, so she went back to work at North Country Imaging in Glens Falls.

Sharon was a communicate at St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls. For the last six years she spent winters in Florida and summers traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada with her life partner, Warren Sherlock. While in Florida, Sharon enjoyed teaching water aerobics and performing in the Wizard Of Oz, as a munchkin. She was a big history buff, and very proud of her Irish heritage. Sharon spent time volunteering at Amanda’s House in Glens Falls. She will always be remembered for her quick wit and her wonderful sense of humor. Sharon loved celebrating and decorating for every holiday, especially Halloween. Above all, her two granddaughters, Bailey and Kennedy, were the light of her life.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sharon was predeceased by her brother, Arnold Streeter.

Survivors include her life partner, Warren Sherlock of Glens Falls; her children, Colleen M. Bailey and her fiancée, Tucker Stanclift of Queensbury, and Glenn R. Bailey of Texas; her grandchildren, Bailey MacKenzie Harrison and Kennedy Alexis Harrison, as well as Jackson, Carter, and Griffin Stanclift; her brother, Jack Streeter and his wife, Winnie of Honeoye Falls; her sister-in-law, Marilyn Streeter; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.

There will be no calling hours.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls.

Following Mass, there will be a celebration of Sharon’s life at the Elks Lodge, 32 Cronin Road in Queensbury.

Burial services will be at a later date.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Chris Murphy, and her staff from Fort Hudson Nursing, for their devotion and care for Mom during this difficult time.

Dona L. Mabb

QUEENSBURY – Dona L. Mabb, 78, of Upper Sherman Ave., passed away quietly at home with her family, on Saturday, February 25, 2017.

Born on May 10, 1938, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late James and Addie (Duell) Moses.

On December 31, 1988, she was united in marriage to George M. Mabb, Sr. at their home on Upper Sherman Avenue in Queensbury. George passed away on January 9, 2009, after 20 years of marriage.

Dona worked at the Troy Shirt Factory for several years as a seamstress and was then employed as a nurse’s aide at Eden Park, where she loved caring for people. Dona was known by her family, friends, and even strangers, to show love unconditionally.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls. Faith was very important to Dona. She enjoyed gardening in the spring. Every Christmas, Dona crocheted blankets, hats, and sweaters and gave them to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a fabulous cook and worked marvels at anything she put her hands on. She was a beautiful artist, painting wooden lawn ornaments, pictures, and most of all loved coloring with her babies. Dona was always happy, no matter what the situation. She could turn a bad day into a great day. Dona didn’t judge people, she felt that was God’s job, and accepted anyone. She will be remembered for being a giving, loving, and caring person who opened her door to everyone.

In addition to her husband, George and parents, Dona was predeceased by her first husband, Robert Blackmer; her grandson, Douglas Bailiff; and her seven brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her children, Laurie Bailiff and her husband, Barry of Malta, Martha Whalen and her companion, Jeff VanGundy of Queensbury, George M. “Jody” Mabb, Jr. and his wife, Shelly of Queensbury, Scott A. Mabb and his wife, Carol of Glens Falls, Jamie A. Mabb and his wife, Mary of Lake George, Christopher L. Mabb of South Glens Falls, and Theresa Moses of Glens Falls; several grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; her brother, Howard “Jerry” Moses; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; many adopted family members and friends; and her very special friend, Roger.

Friends are invited to call on Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc. located at 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

GANSEVOORT – Rebecca S. Van Guilder, 59, of Gansevoort, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at her home.

Born on March 3, 1957, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Charles Van Guilder and the late Rosemary (Cleveland) Van Guilder.

Rebecca was a graduate of South Glens Falls High School. She went on to attend Paul Smith’s College and Oral Roberts University.

She retired from the Target warehouse, where she was a packer for 12 years.

Rebecca enjoyed traveling, gardening, her dogs, reading and her faith. She volunteered at the Chapman Historical Museum in Glens Falls, and the Lake George Conservancy where she counted turtles and loons.

In addition to her mother, Rebecca was predeceased by her sister Julia Hamblin.

Survivors include, her father Charles Van Guilder of Queensbury; her sisters, Natalie Hoeppner of DesMoines, Iowa, Laura Van Guilder of Gansevoort, and Monica Hoffmann and her husband, David of Gansevoort; her favorite aunt Elizabeth Hitchcock and her husband, Walter of Gansevoort; and her much loved nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc. located at 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Andre E. Duval II

HARTFORD – Andre E. Duval II, 54, of Hartford, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017, at Glens Falls Hospital, after a tragic medical emergency. He was surrounded by family and friends, who couldn’t help but fill the room with stories of what an amazing, generous, hilariously funny, and truly one-of-a-kind man he was.

Born April 4, 1962, at Glens Falls Hospital, Andy was the son of Carole and the late Andre Duval. He took care of his parents for years as their neighbor, and when Carole moved he was sure to call her nightly because he was her “Puddin’ Pop.”

Growing up with Andy was quite the adventure, as can be attested by his siblings, Nancy Archambault (husband, Mike), Tammy Goodspeed (husband, Tom) and Mike Duval (wife, Wendy).

His wife Linda (Sipowicz) was absolutely, without a doubt, the love of his life. Andy and Linda were high school sweethearts, together since the age of 15, and married for 36 years. Many said they were too young and would never make it, but they proved their love was everlasting. They laughed, hugged, kissed and held hands together daily. They were the definition of soulmates and it was evident by all who knew them. Together their love created the pride and joy of Andy’s life, his two children and four grandchildren.

His daughter, Angelia Abbott (husband, Stephen) was his “Baby Girl.” His son, Corey Duval (wife, Lindsay) was his “Goobie.” He would never end a phone call or a visit with his kids without saying “love ya.” His love and support as a father was constant and unwavering.

Andy’s favorite past time was being with his grandkids: Nicholas, Hope, Chase and Liam. Poppie, as his grandkids called him, would feed them marshmallows and candy bars and had DVR’d special shows just for them. He had just started building a V-8 model engine with his best-buddy Nicholas. Nicholas and Hope were fortunate enough to live next door to their Poppie, so they could go over and visit him every day. He always looked forward to visits with his twin boys, Chase and Liam.

Crazy Uncle Andy was the FAVORITE uncle to all of his nieces and nephews; especially his god-daughter, Renee Archambault.

Andy worked at Saint-Gobain in Granville for 31-years. He was a dedicated, hardworking and opinionated employee. He had many friends, but closest over the years were Cliff Batease and Gary Prevost.

A true family man, Andy would do anything for those he loved and he treated everyone like family. He was always giving, always offering to help. Anyone that knew Andy loved him, and it was known that the party didn’t start until Andy arrived, because he was the party.

He loved cooking on his grills and making enough food to send people home with leftovers that would last a week. Anyone who’s ever eaten at his cookouts knows how great his food was and it will definitely be missed every summer.

In lieu of flowers, Andy’s family asks that you do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for an unfortunate soul in his name.

All are welcome to gather with the family at the Hartford Firehouse on Route 40 in Hartford, for a celebration of Andy’s life this Sunday, February 26 from 1-4pm.

Dianna “Di” Anderson (Stearns)

HUDSON FALLS – Dianna “Di” Anderson (Stearns), 66, of Hudson Falls, passed away after a long hard fight with respiratory illness and heart failure on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on August 23, 1950, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Allen “Baldy” Stearns and Lorena (Priest) Rogers. She was also predeceased by her step mother, Patricia Devino, whom she thought of as her mother.

Di was a 1967 graduate of Lake George High School. She received her cosmetology license from BOCES.

She was a hairdresser in Hudson Falls and Fort Edward, operating several shops in the area until her health declined in recent years.

Di enjoyed reading, and playing cards with her grandsons. She also enjoyed cooking, chatting, computer games, lawn sales, and especially loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and step mother, Di was predeceased by her sister, Joann; and her two best friends, Ann Rabine and Paula Donnelly.

Survivors include, her daughter, Jami Pope of Granville; her son Bobby Stearns and his wife, Kimberly of Ballston Spa; her grandchildren, Brieanna and her husband, Owen, Brittany, Collin, Michael, Reese, Holdyn, Taylor, Deanna, Morgan, Kaitlyn, and Jasmine; her great-grandchildren, Caleb, Jayden, Paisley, Jerimyah, and Tatiana; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; her brother, Keith Rogers; her special cousin and friend, Ann McGraw; her “adopted kids and their families,” Jeff and his wife, Amy, Shannon and her husband, Jack, Deniele and her husband, Brandon, John, Nicole, Rebecca, Leighann, Jonathon, Faith, April, Mike, as well as many others; and her two longtime best friends, Jackie Lansing and Joyce Sumner

Jean Elizabeth Tremblay Sawin

EDGEWATER, Fla.–Jean Elizabeth Tremblay Sawin, a resident of Edgewater for more than 30 years and formerly of South Glens Falls, N.Y., entered into the arms of the Lord on Feb. 13, 2017, after a short illness, surrounded by her loving family. She was 75.

Born in St. Albans, Vt., on Nov. 4, 1941, Jean enjoyed sports in her youth. In high school, she played basketball and softball and was also a lifeguard. She graduated in 1959 from Thayer High School in Winchester, N.H.

At a New Year’s Eve dance her senior year, she met Carlton Sawin. They were married eight months later, on Sept. 5, 1959, raised three wonderful daughters together, and were happily married for more than 57 years.

In 1970, Carl and Jean and their young family moved from New Hampshire to South Glens Falls. They lived in South Glens Falls for 16 years, moving to Florida in 1986.

During her years in South Glens Falls, Jean worked at the junior high school as a teacher’s aide in remedial reading. She also was the high school’s first JV girls’ softball coach, coached girls’ softball at Moreau Rec, coached the high school’s cheerleading squad, and was a Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader.

Her mother, Eleanor Briggs Tremblay, died in 1956, when Jean was only 15. Her father, Adrian “Babe” Tremblay, died in 1993.

Jean is survived by her beloved husband, Carlton; her three loving daughters, Karen (Jeff) Plude of Halfmoon, N.Y., Pamela (Edmund) Mills of Edgewater, and Carla Ruff of Edgewater; her six grandchildren, Ronald (Jocelyn) Gray, Ashley (Matthew) Chandler, Cory (Bridget) DeWitt, Nicholas Jock, Zachary Jock, and Elyssa Ruff; her three great-grandchildren, Leahna Gray, Lillian Gray, and Ava DeWitt; her five brothers and sisters, Ann (Melvin) Baskin of Naples, Fla., Cyndi (Scott) Gerlach of Grantham, N.H., Thomas (Cathy) Tremblay of Fort Myers, Fla., Kate Tremblay of Montpelier, Vt., and Robert Tremblay of Mesa, Ariz.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service for Jean was held in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. Her ashes will be interred at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Fla.

HUDSON FALLS – Robert Blair Birkheimer, 55, of Hudson Falls, has been set free of cancer on Friday, February 17, 2017.

Born on November 2, 1961, in Orlando, FL, to Glenn and Mary Jane (Sauro) Birkheimer.

At one time Robert served with the New Hampshire National Guard.

Robert loved music and his guitar. He enjoyed gardening, baking, and farming. Robert liked to deliver baked good to everyone at the hospital.

Besides his parents, survivors include, his companion, Star Russell; his children, Blair Birkheimer, James Birkheimer, Jeffrey Decker, Jessica Decker, and Joshua Decker; his siblings, Edward Birkheimer, John Birkheimer and his wife, Donna, Joanne Birkheimer, David Birkheimer and his wife, Robin, Sherri Birkheimer, Julie Birkheimer, Glenn Birkheimer and his wife, Donna, Seth Birkheimer, Debbie Donaldson and her husband, Les, and Gail Biggi; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

GLENS FALLS – Mary E. Broderick, 88, of Glens Falls, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at the Stanton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Queensbury, after a long illness.

Born on September 22, 1928, in Clinton Corners, she was the daughter of the late James and Clara (Bedell) Masterson.

Mary was married to her beloved husband, Joe Broderick, until his passing in 1985.

After her husband’s passing, she worked for many years at Sears.

Mary was a member of the Frist Presbyterian Church in Hudson Falls. She enjoyed travelling and spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was predeceased by her daughter, Bonnie Stockwell; and her brother, Clarence Masterson.

Survivors include, her four children, Joseph “Mike” Broderick of Fort Edward, Deborah A.McNeil and her companion, Ronald Corey of Salem, Kelly J. Broderick and his wife, Amanda of St. Augustine, FL, Craig T. Broderick and his wife, Molly of Woodstock, GA; her six grandchildren; her five great-grandchildren; her brother, George Masterson of Saratoga Springs; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday, February 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Hudson Falls.

A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. at the Church following calling hours, with Reverend Michael Plank, pastor, officiating.

Sherman R. Stark

KINGSBURY – Sherman Robert Stark “Sherm”, 85, of Kingsbury, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 13^th surrounded by his family, including his loving wife of nearly 65 years, Eileen.

Born on September 6^th, 1931, in Fort Edward, Sherm was the son of the late Clifford and Gladys (Holmes) Stark.

Sherm attended Hudson Falls High School where he met the love of his life, Eileen. They were married on March 15^th, 1952 at St. Mary’s church in Hudson Falls. In 1950 he enlisted in the US Navy where he proudly served his country aboard the USS Harry F. Bauer until 1954.

Sherm was employed by NIBCO in South Glens Falls as a Machine Shop Supervisor for 38 years, retiring in 1991.

One of Sherm’s greatest joys was loading his family in the Chevy Wagon with boat in tow, heading for a weekend at Lake St. Catherine in Vermont. Sherm was in his glory at the helm, speeding around the lake and water skiing. Sherm truly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. For 20 years he could usually be found holding a baby. Sherm loved dogs and later in life was the best friend to all of his ‘granddogs’. Sherm was the ultimate handyman. He could fix anything. He was the final destination for all small engines, appliances, and cars that his family could not repair. Sherm was passionate about the Dallas Cowboys, especially his favorite player, Roger Staubach. He truly enjoyed sharing laughs with his great friends at Humbuggs, Reflections, The Rock, and Adirondack Seafood.

Sherm was predeceased by two precious babies, daughter, Sherry Lee Stark, and granddaughter, Nicole Ashley Stark. He is also predeceased by sisters, Betty Jane, Genevieve, Janet, Evelyn and brothers, Thomas and Vernon.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Eileen; his sisters, Ramona Britt and twin Shirley Campney; daughters, Brenda Stark (Gerry Trudell) of Gansevoort, Sharon Whalley (Kris) of Queensbury; sons, Clifford (Cindy) and Steven (April) both of South Glens Falls. He truly loved his grandchildren; Jennifer and Christopher (Kim) Comisky, Benjamin Trudell, Matthew, Daniel, Ashley, Nicholas, and Alexander Stark, Mallory and Gabriel Stark; and his three great grandchildren, Abigail, Avery, and Charlotte Comisky; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday, February 17, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A funeral service for Sherm will immediately follow calling hours at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial with military honors at Union Cemetery will take place in the spring.

TOWN OF MOREAU – Eleanor Mary Eggleston, 92, of Lamplighter Acres, went into the arms of the Lord, at her home, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, February 11, 2017.

Born on April 7, 1924 in Hudson Falls, she was the daughter of the late Clifton and Clara (Washburn) Seeley.

Eleanor was married to Milford Eggleston for 58 wonderful years, before he passed away in 1999.

While her husband was serving his country in the US Army, Eleanor stayed home to raise their children. When he came home, he reacquainted himself with his three year old daughter, Nancy and met for the first time his new daughter, Mary. Eleanor held down the fort and saved all the money he sent home to put a nice down payment on a new home.

She was a talented keyboard player. Eleanor played by ear and could perform any song, just by listening. For the past 50 years, she also loved to go shopping on Mondays, with her daughter, Mary. Eleanor was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and will be missed by her family and friends.

Besides her parents and husband, Eleanor was predeceased by all her siblings.

Survivors include her six children, Nancy Levine and her husband, Patrick of Hudson Falls, Mary Thomas and her husband, Harry of Gansevoort, Ronald Eggleston of Moreau, Ricky Eggleston of Whitehall, Lisa Brown and her husband, Tim of Glens Falls and Bobbie Jo Kelly of Hudson Falls; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours.

A Celebration of Eleanor’s life will be at 12 PM, Noon on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of South Glens Falls, 1721 Route 9 in South Glens Falls, with Rev. Francis E. Galerie, pastor, officiating.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church of South Glens Falls,1721 Rte 9, South Glens Falls, NY 12803.

Arrangements are under the care of the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
