Michael Lee Plude

Plude, MichaelGRANVILLE and HUDSON FALLS—Michael Lee Plude, who lived in Hudson Falls for most of his life before moving to Granville, died unexpectedly and entered into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, February 8, 2018, five days before his birthday. He was 51.

Mike was born February 13, 1966, the son of Donald J. and Beatrice L. (Bechard) Plude. He was born with Down syndrome and a permanently dislocated hip that left him unable to walk, but that never affected his zest for life. He had a remarkable effect on all who knew and loved him.

He especially enjoyed parades and marching bands, and in his younger years could often be seen with his parents outside their Winnebago cheering on the marchers. He loved music, especially old country songs and ballads, and would pump his better leg to the music and sing along with his own lyrics, right in tune. In his later years he liked to go to Rick and Carol’s in Fort Ann and dance in his wheelchair.

He also loved long rides in any vehicle. And he liked the water, and if you held your hand under his chest he would kick his legs like he never could in his wheelchair and almost seemed to swim.

In his later years Mike enjoyed going out for pizza with his brother Jeff and sister-in-law Karen and afterward riding around and singing along to Willie Nelson and Hank Williams songs. He also took a big trip to New York City in 2005, accompanied by Nicole Stevens, a former manager of his group home, to see the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.

Mike lived at home in Hudson Falls for most of his life with his parents, and after his father died in 1983, with his mother. He would sit in front of the house at 33 LaBarge Street with his mother and wave to all the passers-by. She lovingly cared for him until 2003, when he moved to a group home in Granville, where he made a whole new group of friends. He attended a day program nearby at CWI Eastpointe.

Mike’s mother died in 2014, and his half brother, Ronald L. Plude, died in 2016.

Left to cherish Mike’s memory are his brother and sister-in-law, Jeffrey and Karen Plude of Bethlehem; his two half nephews, Scott (Pasquela) Plude and Matthew (Sonia) Plude, both of California; a special cousin, Denis Plude of Conshohocken, Pennsylvania; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and caregivers.

There will be no calling hours. Private graveside services and burial will be held in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fort Edward.

Joan C. Hart

Hart, JoanHUDSON FALLS- Joan C. Hart, 83, of Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Indian River Nursing Home in Granville, NY.

Born on February 15, 1934 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Virgie (Bruso) Cruden.

Joan graduated from Hudson Falls High School class of 1951.

On January 31, 1958, she married the late Henry Hart, at her home in Hudson Falls.

Joan was first employed at Neyland Inc. in Mt. Vernon. She then worked with Dr. Greenburg in Hudson Falls for several years before joining George Gore Accounting, where she eventually retired.

Joan looked forward to baking Christmas cookies every year with her family.  Her greatest affection was for her loyal dog, Lady, who she loved unconditionally.

Survivors include her three siblings, Jean Reger of Queensbury, Jacquelynn (Carleton) Dunn of South Carolina, Sharon (William) McCormick of Hudson Falls; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Family and friends may call on Monday, February 12, from 2-4 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, Hudson Falls, NY 12839.

Funeral services will follow on Monday, starting at 4 p.m.at Carleton Funeral Home Inc.

We will meet for a graveside service on Tuesday, February 13, at 11 a.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, where Joan will be buried next to her husband, Henry J. Hart.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Joan’s name, at the charity of one’s choice.

Shirley Ruth Campney

Campney, ShirleyFORT ANN –  Shirley Ruth Campney, 86, of Fort Ann, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2018, with her son by her side.

Born on September 6, 1931, in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Gladys (Holmes) Stark.

She was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School.

Shirley married Frank Campney and spent many happy years with him, until he passed on August 10, 1983.

Shirley worked side by side with her husband at Frank’s Auto Body Shop until his death. She then began working at the Glens Falls National Bank in Deposit Services until her retirement.

She was a member of the Eastern Star and attended the Fort Ann United Protestant Church.

Shirley loved bird watching, playing cards with her sister, her cat Bandit and spending time with her special niece Sandi.

In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was predeceased by her brothers, Tom Stark, her twin, Sherman Stark, and C. Vernon Stark; her sisters, Betty Jane Stark, Evelyn Williams and her husband Floyd, Janet Watt and her husband, Edward, Genevieve Hilenski and her husband Stanley; her brother-in-law, Joseph Britt; and her granddaughter, Ashley Marie Baker.

Survivors include her three children, Deborah Baker and her husband, Tom, Dwight Campney and his wife, Kim, Charles Campney and his wife, Karin; her six grandchildren, John Hack, Timothy Hack, Rachel Gregory, Justin Campney and his wife, Lindsay, Jonathan Campney , Jessica O’Connor and her husband, Michael; her sister, Ramona Britt; her sisters-in-law, Eileen Stark, Leona Stark, Jane Flagg; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including her special niece, Sandi Shaw.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday, February 13, between 4 and 6 p.m. at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, Hudson Falls, NY 12839.

Funeral Services will follow the calling hours at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Burial will take place in the spring at the Kingsbury Cemetery.

Veronica “Ronie” Davidson

Davidson, VeronicaQUEENSBURY- Veronica “Roni” Davidson, 59, passed away peacefully, Friday, February 2, 2018, after a short illness.

Born on October 4, 1958, she was the daughter of the late Shirley Fleming and Leonard Chappel.

Roni spent most of her adult life in Queensbury. She worked for 40 years as a CNA in area nursing homes and on the oncology floor at the Glens Falls Hospital. Roni truly enjoyed caring for people and had one of the biggest hearts you could find. Roni would brighten up any room she walked into. Roni loved spending time with her family, friends and most importantly, having a good time.

Besides her parents, Roni was predeceased by her husband, the love of her life, James William “Billy” Davidson.

Survivors include her mother-in-law, Deidra Weeks of Queensbury; her children, Chris Smith and Nicole Hulse; her sister Penny of Ausable Chasm; her brothers-in-law, Jeffrey Davidson and his wife, Joanne of Hudson Falls, Michael Davidson of Queensbury; her nieces, Chelsea Lemon and her husband, William of Niskayuna, Melissa Davidson of Hudson Falls; her nephew, Lee Davidson of Fort Edward; her cat Billy James ”BJ”; many other nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and good friends.

At her request, there will be no calling hours.

A private graveside service will be held in the spring.

James MacKenzie Fraser

Fraser, JamesHUDSON FALLS – James MacKenzie Fraser, 90, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on February 1, 2018 in Albany, NY surrounded by family.

 

He was born February 25, 1927, in Hudson Falls, NY, the son of Hugh and Barbara (Steven) Fraser.

A member of the Hudson Falls High School class of 1944, Jim graduated from Clarkson College of Technology in 1950. As a veteran of World War II, he was a grateful beneficiary of the GI Bill. During college, Jim married the girl of his dreams, Claire Ruth (Carleton), and shared 66 years of married life, until her passing in 2015.

Jim was the son of loving immigrant parents, and he was ever-proud of his Scottish ancestry. Jim worked for 40 years as a civil engineer in the construction industry and then, during his retirement, as the assistant produce manager at the Cleverdale Country Store.

In the late 1980’s Jim converted the summer home on Echo Bay of Lake George to the home he and Claire would retire to for over 20 years. In addition to entertaining many at Lake George, Jim and Claire enjoyed visiting their children and grandchildren and travelling (three trips) back to Scotland during their retirement years.

Above all else, Jim’s greatest interest in life was his family, who has cherished his love, dedication, loyalty, wit and wisdom.

Along with his wife and parents, Jim was predeceased by a sister, Agnes Sanford.

Surviving Jim, are his children Judith, of Queensbury, Scott and his companion, Christine Burke, of Queensbury, Bruce and his wife, Kathleen, of Queensbury, Andrew and his wife, Suzanne, of Boxford, MA, Peter and his wife, Cheryl, of Queensbury, James, Jr., and his wife,  Jessica, of Weston, FL; grandchildren, Justin (Katherine), Heath, Dean (Alexandra), Mackenzie, Heather, Brittany, Rory, Meredith, James III, Luke and Benjamin Fraser; and great-grandson, Hudson Fraser. Also surviving are several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday, February 9, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls

 

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, at the Hudson Falls First Presbyterian Church on the park in Hudson Falls.

Burial will at a later date at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward with, full military honors.

Harrison Winne

Winne, HarrisonHUDSON FALLS, NY, SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY; ZEPHYRHILLS, FL-Harrison Winne, age 79, of Hudson Falls, NY, died on January 26, 2018, at Wesley Chapel Hospital after a short illness.

Born on January 18, 1939, in Glens Falls Hospital, he was the son of Adolphus and Fannie Winne and step-father, Claude Abry.

Harrison was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School, SUNY Adirondack and Sienna College.

Following his academic career, he was first employed at Hercules Laboratories. Later, he became the Business Administrator for the Hudson Falls Central School District, working there for 25 years. After retiring in 2003, he worked as a consultant for Saratoga Springs, Queensbury, Ballston Spa, and Troy School Districts.

He lived the last 35 years, married to his loving wife, Kathie, whom he loved and adored.

Harrison resided in Saratoga Springs for 35 years, later retiring to Zephyrhills, Florida.

He was an avid golfer, a country and western musician, and a member of the Elks, Moose, AMVETS, Eagles and VFW clubs. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents, first wife Mary (Bergin) Winne and his daughter Lisa Ann Winne.

He is survived by his wife, Kathie; his children, Christine Coulman and her husband, Shawn, Deborah Barbieri and her husband, John, David Winne, Patrick Winne and his wife, Kim, Lisa Mary Winne, Karen Winne, Anne-Marie Hawkins, Julie Harvey and her husband Greg, Kristen Czajkowski and her husband Patrick; his sister, Linda Lapine; his brother, Richard Abry; his beloved Aunt Peg; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Genessa Marie

Coon, GHUDSON FALLS- Genessa Marie, 23 of Hudson Falls, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018.

Born on March 20, 1994, in Glens Falls, NY, she was the daughter of Amanda and Daniel Tubbs.

Genessa was a fun, bubbly person and she loved to make people laugh and to have a good time. She was very artistic, and her art took many forms. She was very fond of writing poetry based on her life experiences, music and dancing. She enjoyed watching football, especially when her favorite team, the New York Giants, were playing. Her greatest love however, were her two children Nevaeh and Deondrae. Spending time with them was her life’s greatest pleasure.

She was predeceased by her grandfather, James Ingalls Sr. and her grandmother, Beverly Dickson.

Genessa is survived by her two children, Nevaeh and Deondrae; her mother and father, Amanda and Daniel Tubbs of Corinth; her brothers and sisters, Sebastian, Ryan Breault and Travis Coon ; her stepbrothers and stepsisters, Hunter Tubbs, Kendra Tubbs and Emily Tubbs; her grandmother, Donna Ingalls of Las Vegas; her aunt and uncle, James and April Ingalls of Las Vegas ; her aunt and uncle, Tammy and Ken McDermott of Alabama; her fiancé, Tory Lapan of Hudson Falls; her aunt and uncle Sue and Jeff Cullen of Moreau; her aunt and uncle Patricia and Albert Allen of Queensbury; her uncle and aunt, Gerald and Sue Dickson of Fort Ann; and many other loving and devoted family members.

Skylar C. Wilson

Wilson, SkylarHUDSON FALLS and ARGYLE – Skylar C. Wilson, 15, went into the arms of the Lord, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, January 28, 2018.

Born on January 13, 2003, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Nicholas Wilson, Jolleen Wilson and Richard McAda.

Skylar was a 9th grader in Hudson Falls School.  She worked hard and put her all into everything she did.  Skylar was on the honor roll, AP classes, a member of the Student Council, Girls Science Club, she sang in the choir and for the past three years running, she had perfect attendance.

Faith in God and her family were the center of her life.  She read her bible every day and was an altar server at St. Joseph’s Church.  Skylar had a natural love for life and animals.  She had aspired to be a veterinarian.  Skylar lived her life showing the love of God through her.  She was loved by everyone and hated by none, she lived her faith.

Skylar was a sweet, shy, innocent girl, who was a perfect angel on earth, who now has her wings in heaven.  She was best friends with her brothers and sister.  Skylar had love and patience with little children and loved babysitting.  She was a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, aunt, who left this earth to be with God on January 28th.

She was predeceased by her grandfathers, Edwin Tusha and Michael LaPointe, her aunt, Darcy Miner and her uncle, Jared Wilson.

She was beloved daughter of Nicholas Wilson of Argyle, Jolleen Wilson and Richard McAda of Hudson Falls; best friend and sister to, Jacob Wilson, Mackenzie Wilson and Bryant Tusha; she was a blessing to her grandparents, James and Lucia Wilson of Argyle, Susan LaPointe of Saratoga Springs and Alfreda Tusha of Lubbock, Texas; her nephew, Jacob D. Wilson; her aunts and uncles, Robin Holcomb and her companion, Steve Desourdy, Lisa and Ricky Sears, Penny and Francis Marshall, Scott and Theresa Wilson, Chris Tucker, Michael LaPointe, Michelle LaPointe, Bruce McAda, David Blakley and Cindy Rusk; her great aunt, Patricia Gram; and many many cousins.

Courtney David Walsh

Walsh, CourtneyHUDSON FALLS – Courtney David Walsh, left this realm last winter at Albany Medical Center in the presence of his cousin Bill and beloved dog Snooker, with support from his sister Michaele, due to heart failure.

He is predeceased by his mother, Lynne C Walsh, his father Douglas (Helen) Walsh, and cousin Mickey Walsh.  Courtney will be lovingly remembered by his family, sister Michaele (James) Babcock, nephews Michael and Jason, and cousins Bill (Sue) Carmichael Walsh.

“Courtney was a Renaissance man, a good friend to many, a writer, a connoisseur of all things enjoyable, who loved his animals.” ~ Andy Nolte, his dear friend.

Courtney found pleasure in teaching, writing, and a varied taste in literature. His favorites were James Joyce, Shakespeare, Isaac Asimov, and The Tibetan Book of the Dead. He enjoyed bicycling, cross country skiing, rollerblading, and dancing, playing squash, racquetball, and basketball, being a basketball referee, and rooting for the Celtics. He practiced Reiki, yoga, dream interpretation, and tracked his biorhythms. He often was camping, swimming, and boating at Thousand Islands, Dippikill, Harriman Reservoir, and Cape Cod. Courtney loved theater, good restaurants, and Jazz. He was a gourmet cook, a master of puns, and travelled extensively, most often in Canada and Italy. His favorite B&B was his cousin’s The Emerson House, VT. Courtney’s pets brought him great joy: cats Sarah & Mabel (the latter named after his adored grandmother), dogs Molly & Snooker, who accompanied him on many adventures.

Courtney grew up in East Syracuse, graduated from Brown University in 1966, completed his Masters at SUNY Albany. Ties to Brown remained strong; he interviewed prospective students and attended reunions; last seen there at the 50th. He was dedicated to his students, started his career in South Glens Falls, then taught English at Hudson Falls High School for 29 years. Always an innovative teacher, he positively influenced many students’ lives, and passionately participated in creating and teaching the Advanced Placement English program.

In 1968, Courtney and Susan Gilmore (Bacon Hill) were married, they parted in 1976. Courtney met Patricia Varney (SGF) in 1982, when both lived in Saratoga. They were married in 1983 through 1992.

Upon retirement, Courtney focused on writing, and achieved his goal of being published. He worked as a Hospice volunteer and established the “safe crossing flags” for pedestrians in HF. He valued his time with family and friends.

A celebration of life was held at Carl R’s Cafe, arranged by his sister and his good friend, Rene Roberge.

John H. Brodt Sr.

Brodt, JohnHUDSON FALLS – John H. Brodt Sr., a lifelong resident of Hudson Falls, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at Glens Falls Hospital at the age of 77.

John was born on April 29, 1940, to Seymour and Mary Brodt.

He graduated from Hudson Falls Senior High School in 1957.

On July 1, 1962, he married Genevieve Vitouski and they began a 55-year marriage and a family that would grow to four children, their spouses and ten grandchildren.

John began his working life at McCann’s Pharmacy in Hudson Falls while in high school and maintained a friendship with the McCann family since that time. He went on to work for First National Bank of Glens Falls and Hercules/Ciba-Geigy before finding the most enjoyable job of his life, as a custodian at the Hudson Falls Middle School. In 2002, the eighth graders voted to dedicate their yearbook to him, writing “He treats all the kids with respect and kindness.”

John’s ten grandchildren were the pride of his life, and for the past 20 years “Mimi and Grampi Brodt” were fixtures at their sporting events, dance recitals and other activities. He and “Mimi” also enjoyed trips to Disney World with each of their children’s families over the years. John was a longtime horse racing fan and loved using his green-thumb to grow his garden and make sure that his brown-thumbed children had flowers in their yards each spring. He was a big television fan, with “Wheel of Fortune,” “Jeopardy” and Lifetime Movies among his favorites.

John was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Patricia.

He is survived by his wife, Genny; children, John Jr. and his wife, Lisa; Michael and his wife, Michelle. Danielle Vaughan and her husband, Jeff and Denise Brodt; grandchildren, Nicole Brodt and her significant other, Brian Canastra; Steven Brodt and his wife, Sidney; Reilley and Maddox Brodt, Lilly, Alex and Parker Doin, and Jenna, Cassie and Leah Vaughan. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Lou Jordan; his brother, Joe Brodt and his wife, Maureen; sisters-in-law Joan Vitouski and Patricia Vitouski; and many nieces and nephews.

John’s family wishes to thank his “dialysis family” at the Glens Falls Hospital Renal Center for their outstanding care and friendship over the past five years. You made what could have been a terrible grind (four hours a day, three days a week) into an enjoyable experience for him. We also thank Dr. Joseph Mihindu for his years of care, and the doctors, nurses and staff of the Glens Falls Hospital Emergency Department, 3 West and the Intensive Care Unit for caring for John over the past three weeks.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate John’s life at a service on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 11:30 a.m. at Carleton Funeral Home Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls, followed by a reception at McManus Hall, next to the Church of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s in Hudson Falls.

Susie G. Harrington

Harrington SueHarrington, Susie 2GLENS FALLS- Susie G. Harrington, 92, passed away peacefully, on Friday, January 19, 2018, at her home in Glens Falls.

Born on April 13, 1925 in Fort Ann, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Ethel (Stoddard) Knapp.

Susie was a great mom to her children. She washed, darned, mended and patched clothes.  She sewed many of hers and her daughters’ clothes – even making a beautiful prom gown.  She could also knit – making many sweaters, vests, hats, mittens, argyle socks and even a beautiful afghan.  She took her son fishing and would prepare his catch along with whatever he’d get when hunting. She was definitely a hands-on mom. You always knew you were loved.

Susie was great in the kitchen. She prepared wonderful meals, baked delicious, homemade pies, and awesome caramel corn (on Sunday nights).

Susie was always a hard worker. She worked at a lumber mill in Illinois and eventually retired from GE in Ft. Edward, NY.

Susie loved ice cream, especially McDonald’s hot fudge sundaes. But…her greatest love was family. She sacrificed so much over the years to live far away from her parents and siblings (Arizona, Iowa, Illinois, Puerto Rico to name a few). In 1968, she returned to NY to live.  She had many wonderful years sharing life with her husband, Harry, and her siblings. Susie has now reunited with many of them.  May she rest in peace and know how much she was loved.

In addition to her parents, Susie was predeceased by her first husband Henry G. Hayes as well as her second husband Harry W. Harrington, whom she married in 1970; and her siblings Ellison Knapp, Basil Knapp, Roy Knapp, Eugene Knapp, Harold Knapp and his wife Rita, Floyd Knapp and his wife Harriet, Mae Lee and her husband Frank, Marilyn Parrish and her husband Frank; her sister Audrey Jones and her husband Dick and her brother-in-law Carroll Harrington.

Reese and her husband Ed of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Claudia Devine and her husband Renny of Hudson Falls; grandchildren JJ Hayes, Crystal Hayes, Kara Good, Katina Broback, Brett Devine, Lindsey Devine-Chase, seven great grandchildren; her sister Nellie Harrington of South Granville, and two sister-in-laws, Mary Jo Knapp O’Day of Hydeville, VT, Catherine Knapp of Hartford; and several nieces , nephews and cousins.

There are no calling hours.

Graveside services will take place at Morningside Cemetery in Hartford, in the Spring.

They suggest that a donation be made in Susie’s name to a charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Kamburelis, AliceFORT EDWARD- Alice Mae (Collier) Kamburelis passed away peacefully on January 18, 2018, at the Fort Hudson Health Care Center in Fort Edward.

Born on May 22, 1935, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Lillian (Russell) Collier.

Alice graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1954 and married her husband, Pericles Kamburelis, two years later, on November 22, 1956.  He passed away on April 19, 2011.

Alice was an avid bingo player and often socialized at the Moreau Center with friends.  She enjoyed painting and knitting, but the love of her life was her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her two sons, Stephen and Aaron Kamburelis.

Alice is survived by her children, Connie Colvin and her husband, John of Fort Edward, Paul Kamburelis of Florida and Karen Holcomb and her fiancé, Ronnie Morehouse; her cousin, Patricia Jones of Argyle; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews-  especially the Bates girls.

Services will be at the convenience of the family.

The family suggests that donations in Alice’s name be made to The Community Hospice, 179 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
