HUDSON FALLS – Betty J. Dickinson, 99 formerly of Fourth Avenue, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Fort Hudson Nursing Center in Fort Edward.
Born on August 21, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Gordon and Jane (Stewart) Dickinson.
Graveside Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

GLENS FALLS – Michael Lee Barrett, 75, of Glens Falls, passed on at home, surrounded by her loving family, after a brief illness, on Sunday, July 15, 2018.
Born on May 19, 1943, in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow and Betty (Lee) Barrett.
Michael worked for Angiodynamics until her retirement on December 2017. While working there for over 24 years, she made many wonderful friends.
Michael was an extremely gifted artist, painting beautiful pictures in oil, acrylic and water colors as well as drawing in pencil and ink. She enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts and was an expert in knitting, crocheting and lace making. When her children were younger, she delighted in going on picnics, camping and fishing together. Michael’s greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was also a prolific poet, as seen by the poem below.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Tamara Jane Burch who was born on September 30, 1963 and passed away on August 11, 1964, her sister, Linda Reynolds and her brother, John Barrett.
She is survived by her children, Peter Burch, Michael “Andy” Burch and his wife, Kimberly, Mary Piazza and her husband, Dan and Charles Gordon and his wife, Cindy; her grandchildren, Hailey Cleveland, Michael Burch, Jr. Charles Wesley Gordon, Kaitlyn Burch, Cailyn Gordon and Karleigh Gordon; her brothers, David Barrett, Woodrow “Tony” Barrett and Christopher Barrett; her sisters, Elizabeth Tompkins and Rose Mary Storey; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
With great love we witnessed as you bravely shed your heavy wings and kissed you one last time as we watched you fly away.

HUDSON FALLS – Patricia “Pat” J. LaBarge, 81, formerly of Hudson Falls, went into the arms of the Lord, on Sunday, July 15, 2018, at the Glens Falls Hospital.
Born on April 29, 1937 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late William and Marion (Whitcomb) Monrian.
On October 6, 1959, she married Eugene LaBarge at St. Ambrose Church in Latham. He passed away on May 24, 1987. Following her husband’s death, she helped at a day care center in Hudson Falls.
Pat was a homemaker at heart, she enjoyed taking care of her family, solving word search puzzles, and drawing. Pat could always be found doodling. She had many close friends and enjoyed talking to them on the phone. Pat had a strong faith, loved reading the bible and watching Christian TV programs. At one time, she was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Hudson Falls.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, William Monrian, Gerald Monrian and Edmund Monrian, her two sisters, Kathleen Sullivan and Marion Whalen, her longtime companion, Jonathan Euber and her close friends, Beth Shields and Gloria Jones.
Survivors include her children, Laurie Nelson and her husband, Greg of Fort Edward, Eugene LaBarge, Jr. of Albany and Paul LaBarge of Hudson Falls; two grandchildren, Megan Nolin and Adam LaBarge; her great granddaughter, Addison Nolin; several nieces and nephews; and her friends, Mary Archambault, Kelly Young and Becky Wright .
Graveside services will be private at the convenience of the family at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

HUDSON FALLS – Kathleen (Kathy) M. Casey Spear, 57, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2018, surrounded by her loving family, after a heroic battle with breast cancer.
Born October 6, 1960 in Glens Falls, Kathy was the daughter of Julia (Murray) Casey and the late Thomas P. Casey. She graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1978, and earned a degree in Animal Husbandry and Dairy from SUNY Cobleskill in 1980. After college, she applied her entrepreneurial spirit to Kate’s Castaways, a second-hand clothing store in Queensbury with her aunt, Anne DePalo. Kathy committed her professional career to Reliable Racing Supply in Queensbury, assuming positions of increasing responsibility, retiring at the position of Operations Manager.
Kathy was unfailingly dedicated to being an active parent. She adored her children, James and Molly, and was an enthusiastic supporter at every sporting event and school function. Kathy also loved her flowers, and enjoyed trivia nights with her friends. She was a talented artist and an outstanding singer, providing the soundtrack to numerous celebrations of love and life—and she did it all while dressed to the nines.
From the moment of her initial diagnosis in 2007, Kathy redefined “survivor.” She was a warrior, a light in the lives of all who loved her, consistently positive and hopeful. She loved to laugh, and handled each new diagnosis with grace and humor. Kathy treasured time spent with her family, especially James and Molly and her cherished chihuahua, Ben. She constantly demonstrated to all who knew her that cancer did not define who she was, or how she lived her life. She was selfless to the very end, and encouraged those who loved her to live each day with peace, love, and happiness.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved children, James Spear of Adamsville and his girlfriend Marissa Ruddy of Averill Park; Molly Spear of Hudson Falls and her boyfriend, Aaron Riley, also of Hudson Falls; her mother, Julia Casey of Hudson Falls; her sister, Maureen Casey, and brother-in-law, Andrew Mahoney, of Buffalo; her brother, Dennis Casey, and sister-in-law, Margaret (Champaigne) Casey, of Kingsbury; her nieces and nephew, Jillian Casey of Kingsbury; Sara Casey of Kingsbury and her boyfriend, George Lehoisky of Fort Ann; Sean Casey and his girlfriend, Regina Rosati, of South Glens Falls; her loving uncle, Patrick “Bubby” Casey of Adamsville; her adoring aunt, Monica (Casey) Eastman of Fort Edward; as well as many cherished cousins and friends. In addition to her doting aunts, Kathy was predeceased by her father, Thomas P. Casey.
Arrangements are being made by Carleton’s Funeral Home in Hudson Falls. At Kathy’s request, there will be no calling hours.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at the St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls.
There will be a private burial at the convenience of her loved ones.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. John Stoutenburg and the staff at the C.R. Wood Cancer Center for their steadfast care and compassion over the last eleven years. Kathy’s road was a long one, full of unexpected twists and turns, and the physicians and nurses, especially Barb Moehringer and Patty Godnick, personified partnership throughout Kathy’s journey.
There are also too many others to mention who provided care and assistance along the way, including aides and nurses from Fort Hudson Home Care Services.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations be made to the C.R. Wood Cancer Center, in honor of Kathy’s extraordinary life.
KINGSBURY – Eileen Jane Stark of Kingsbury, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 8th, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
Born on July 14th, 1934 in Hudson Falls, Eileen was the daughter of the late Matthew and Winnifred (Moss) Burke.
Eileen graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1951 where she met the love of her life Sherm. They were married on March 15th, 1952 at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson Falls. Eileen and Sherm moved to Charleston, South Carolina where they lived on the naval base as Sherm served proudly aboard the USS Harry F. Baur until 1954. They returned to Hudson Falls, where they started their family in a house they built and lived until their passing.
Eileen stayed at home and raised her four children while also working as a playground supervisor at Maple Street Elementary school. Later in life she was a valued employee at Piscitelli & Sons, H&R Block, and spent years at Adirondack Excess Insurance company as an underwriter.
Eileen was the heart and soul of her family and her selflessness was an inspiration to all. She loved the weekend family trips to Lake St. Catherine, boating, skiing, and swimming with her kids. She was an avid reader enjoying all kinds of books especially mystery and romance novels. Eileen was a wordsmith and loved to do crossword puzzles. She was a “Wheel of Fortune” savant and always solved the puzzle well before her college educated children!! Eileen was a very proud and hands-on grandmother and great grandmother. She never once said no to babysitting and the kids all adored her. Eileen was truly a sweet and special woman who was loved and respected not only by her family and friends but anyone that met and talked with her.
Eileen was predeceased by her beloved husband Sherman and two precious babies, daughter Sherry Lee Stark, and granddaughter Nicole Ashley Stark. Sisters Geraldine Roods, Barbara Allen, and brothers Bernard and William Burke also predecease Eileen.
She is survived by her sister Joan (Jim) Hogan; daughters Brenda Stark (Gerry Trudell), and Sharon Whalley (Kris) of Queensbury; sons Clifford (Cindy) and Steven (April) Stark of South Glens Falls. Her loving grandchildren, Jennifer and Christopher (Kim) Comisky, Benjamin Trudell, Matthew (Danielle), Daniel, Ashley, Nicholas, and Alexander Stark, Mallory and Gabriel Stark, and her three great grandchildren, Abigail, Avery, and Charlotte Comisky.
Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, July 12th at the Carleton Funeral Home, 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls. A funeral service for Eileen will immediately follow calling hours at 6 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Reverend Thomas Babiuch, officiating.
Rite of committal will take place at St. Mary’s cemetery in Hudson Falls on Friday, July 13th, at 11:00 a.m.

GLENS FALLS – Judith O’Malley, 76, of South Glens Falls, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018, at the Teresian House in Albany.
Born on March 8, 1942 in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and June (Somers) Davis.
Education was very important to Judith. Following high school, she attended SUNY at Albany, graduating in 1962, with a degree in Education.
Judy taught school in several schools around the country. She also was a sales rep for Armour Foods, while living in Kentucky. After moving back to this area, Judith worked at Boston Scientific.
She loved to take walks in the park, going to movies and playing bingo with her friends. Judith also enjoyed going out to dinner with her family and friends, especially at Red Lobster.
She was a very friendly, outgoing person, who could strike up a conversation with strangers.
Judy will be missed by her children, Michael Clear of South Glens Falls, Jeffrey Clear and his wife, Sandy of Monument, Colorado and Barbara Dyer and her husband, Paul of Syracuse; her grandchildren, Faith and Emily Clear of Colorado; and her twin brother, Jeffrey Davis and his wife, Donna of South Glens Falls.

ARGYLE- Sharon A. (Mayhew) Dickinson, 79, of Mahaffy Road in Argyle, passed away peacefully at home with family, on Thursday, July 5, 2018.
Born on July 4, 1939 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Grace (Taylor) Mayhew.
Sharon was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School.
She was employed at Mallinckrodt in Argyle for seventeen years, and then moved to Trustco Bank on Quaker Road, where she retired.
Sharon enjoyed shopping and dining out with family and friends. She had a great adventurous spirit and loved to travel. Her heart was huge, and she was always there to help anyone in need. She was an animal lover and supported many causes with her generosity.
Survivors include her longtime loving companion, Arthur Wells, Sr. of Argyle; her daughter, Christi (Dickinson) O’Malley of Tampa, Florida; her son, Mike Dickinson of Tampa, Florida; her grandson, Cameron O’Malley; her granddaughter, Caleigh O’Malley; as well as Arthur and Wendy Wells, Jr. of Hudson Falls; Michelle Allison of Hudson Falls; Gary and Jennifer Wells of Hudson Falls; Lenny Wells of Hudson Falls; Frosty and Myndi Wells of Fort Edward; Beatrice and Mike Greenough of Queensbury; Karen Wells and Frank Smith of Fort Edward; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

LAKE GEORGE-Raymond “Jr.” Harris Kilmartin Jr., 55, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, due to injuries he sustained while at work.
Born on November 23, 1962 in Glens Falls, he was the son of Mary (Hunt) Kilmartin of Lake George and the late Raymond Harris Kilmartin.
Jr. attended Lake George School and was employed by the Hiland Golf Course.
He loved to hunt, fish and ride snow mobiles but his greatest pleasure was spending time with family and being outdoors.
Besides his father, Jr. was predeceased by several aunts and uncles.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his daughter, Alecia Setteducato and her husband, Adam of South Glens Falls, his two granddaughters, Celeste Todriff and Alexa Lee; his grandson, Lucas Setteducato; his sister, Stacey Shewell and her husband, Terry of South Glens Falls; his nephew, Kyle Shewell; and Jr.’s partner in crime, Camille.
Friends may call on Sunday, July 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, Hudson Falls. Life memories will be shared at 4 p.m., and then all are welcome to the Hiland Golf Course in Queensbury for a celebration of Jr.’s life at 5 p.m.

SOUTH GLENS FALLS- Jeffrey L. “Skinny” Howes, Sr., 46, of Saratoga Avenue, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, July 2, 2018.
Born on September 3, 1971 in Glens Falls, he was the son of Louanne (Mallory) Rice and the late Arthur Howes.
He attended Queensbury High School and soon after graduating began his working career. Skinny has always been in construction and was extremely talented, being able to build a house from scratch. He worked for Bartlett Enterprise for the past 26 years as a roofer. Skinny loved being outdoors and with his co-workers, whom he considered part of his extended family.
Skinny was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved spending time at his camp in Lake George hunting and fishing on the Hudson River, usually with his son, Jake and his father, Arthur. Sundays would find him drifting happily in his kayak, on the lakes and rivers he loved.
He golfed at a local course and was a member of several bowling leagues, always with an ice-cold Corona beer with lime in his hand. Skinny was a big NASCAR fan, particularly of Mark Martin, collecting his sports memorabilia. He also enjoyed watching the Yankees and the Miami Dolphins play.
Skinny always looked on the bright side of things throughout his life. He was an intelligent, hardworking goofy man who loved his family above all else and who will be greatly missed.
In addition to his father, Skinny was predeceased by his sister, Angel Howes Rogers, and his uncle, Alan “Chick” Mallory, Sr.
Survivors include his children, Jeffrey L. Howes, Jr. of Gansevoort, Holly L. Howes of South Glens Falls, Jacob K. Howes of South Glens Falls, Collin Clark of Queensbury; the mother of his children, Lisa Clark of South Glens Falls; his girlfriend, Tara Nelson of South Glens Falls; his parents, Louanne and Stephen Rice of Queensbury; his siblings, Tabitha Wren and her husband, Reginald of South Glens Falls, Arthur Howes, Jr. and his girlfriend, Kristin Richards of Argyle, Evelyn George and her husband, Ronald of Greenfield Center; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful close friends and co-workers.

QUEENSBURY – Daniel S. Griffin, 88, died on June 29th at Fort Hudson Nursing Home in Fort Edward with Sally, his beloved wife of 63 years, at his side.
He was born June 17, 1930, in New York City and was the son of the late O. Thompson and Margaret (Knight) Griffin of Hudson Falls.
He graduated from Hobart College in Geneva, in 1953.
On February 26, 1955, he married Sarah “Sally” Wheeler Alden in Swarthmore, PA.
He was commissioned in the United States Air Force and graduated from pilot training in 1955. His assignments included tours in Madrid, Spain, Mitchel Air Force Base on Long Island, Dobbins AFB, Marietta, GA, The Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, VA, the Philippine Islands including jungle survival training, Viet Nam and Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, DC. His grand total flying time is 9340 hours.
Colonel Griffin flew over 400 aerial combat missions in Viet Nam, Laos and Cambodia during the East Asia conflict. His decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with seven oak leaf clusters.
While stationed at Andrews Air Force Base, he flew Air Force Two for Vice Presidents Agnew and Rockefeller, as well as missions for various Cabinet Members and the Nixon family.
After 23 years of dedicated service, he retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1975.
He and his wife, Sally, formerly owned and operated Griffin Brothers Co. and Griffin Oil Company in Hudson Falls. The business was sold in 1985. His most recent business involvement included apartment rentals in the local area.
He was a ten-year member of the Queensbury Zoning Board of Appeals. Other memberships included the Glens Falls Country Club and the Retired Officers Association.
Besides his wife, Sally (Alden) Griffin of Fort Edward, Dan is survived by a son, Richard K. Griffin of Acworth, GA; a daughter, Margaret A. Bernard of Schenectady; three grandsons, Steven Knight Griffin and Jeffrey Alden Griffin of Atlanta, GA and Andrew Philip Bernard of Schenectady; and a granddaughter, Sarah Gail Jewett of Jacksonville, NC; two great grandchildren; and his brothers, Thompson Knight Griffin and wife, Virginia of Scottsdale, AZ and James H. Wright and wife, Janet of Falmouth, Maine.
Donations in Dan’s name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4 Pine West Plaza #405, Albany, NY 12205 or to a charity of your choice.
At Dan’s request there will be no calling hours. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

HUDSON FALLS – Helen E. Omiecinski, 93, of Hudson Falls, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at the Glens Falls Hospital.
Born on March 4, 1925 in Hudson Falls, she was the daughter of the late Richard Stockwell and Mildred (Parker) Stockwell.
Helen was married to the love of her life, John R. Omiecinski for most of her life.
She was a true homemaker, she enjoyed staying busy baking, canning, garage sales and watching her programs. Helen was a always a caregiver, she would take people into her home and always had a hot meal to share. She was always looking out for everyone else.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John R. Omiecinski, her only child, Nancy C. Martin, who passed away in April of 2018, her brothers, Carlton, Jack, William, her sister, Gladys Stockwell and her nephew, Martin Stockwell.
Helen is survived by her granddaughters Carol Martin (Chip Pregent), Jamie (Richard) Wilson, and her grandson John (Debbie) Martin, all of whom will miss her greatly. She was blessed with numerous great grandchildren; Joslyn (Mark) Brown, Brandi Gitto, Paul Wilson, Jackie (Matt) Benedetti, Daniel Needham, Ashley Martin, Ryan (Marissa) Martin, Chaz Wilson, Brian Martin, Kevin Martin and Jakob Pregent; her great great grandchildren who loved her deeply, Marky, Raelyn, Leilla, Daniel, and Ryan; her brother, Robert (Ann) Stockwell; She also had many nieces, nephews, cousins; and her family from Waterbury, Connecticut. Helen thought the world of her nephews, Phil Omiecinski and Adam Omiecinski.
The family would like to thank her aides, Cindy, Kathy and Julie, who where a great comfort to her the last year of her life, and to Maureen Wall, Dr. Peter Gray and Dr. Robert Beaty for their care and compassion.
A graveside service will take place at 11 p.m. Saturday at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.
Following the graveside all are welcome to celebrate Helen’s life at the home her granddaughter Carol.

On Saturday, June 23rd, Jennifer Marie Engwer passed away in the comfort of her home with her spouse Tracy L. Collins by her side.
Jennifer was born in the City of Glens Falls on December 29, 1965 to parents, Joan (Harding) and David Engwer. She grew up and lived in Glens Falls with her family.
Jennifer attended Glens Falls High School and went on to earn several college degrees. She received two Associate of Arts and an Associate of Science degree from SUNY Adirondack Community College. She also earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s degree from SUNY Plattsburgh. Jennifer thoroughly enjoyed learning and continued to take various classes throughout her life.
After graduating from Plattsburgh, Jennifer accepted a position with Verizon Communications. She worked as a telephone operator and was a union steward for CWA #1104 and a proud supporter of Verizon’s volunteer group, Pioneers of America.
In April 2002, Jennifer met the love of her life, Tracy Collins. Jennifer and Tracy held a commitment ceremony on April 24, 2005 and were married in Saratoga Springs on the same day in 2014 surrounded by family and friends. Their mutual passion for animals and antiques, along with their unbridled interest in motorcycling, fueled a loving relationship of more than 16 years.
Jennifer is survived by her wife Tracy, mother and father in-law Sharon and Bruce Collins, sister-in-law Dana (Brian) LePage, and brother-in-law Todd Collins, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jennifer was known to everyone for her kind and caring nature and her extraordinary generosity. She donated frequently to several animal rescue organizations, cancer research, and children’s charities.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., in Hudson Falls with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls, officiating.
Following the service, Jen’s family will greet friends until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

QUEENSBURY – Lawrence L. “Whitey” Lemery of Queensbury Ave., passed away on Monday, June 18, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on January 25, 1924 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Albert and Alice (Demerse) Lemery.
Whitey proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946.
On January 10, 1952, he married Hazel Hulett. They were married 48 years, before her death in 2000.
Whitey retired from Ciba Geigy after 32 years of service. Together with his brother Bucky, he owned an operated a welding shop, where they created beautiful ornamental iron works.
He attended St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls, every Sunday with his family, for many years.
Whitey enjoyed fishing at Glen Lake and “George’s Lake” and hunting in the Adirondacks. He belonged to a hunting camp in Vermont and was a member of the Newcomb Sportsman’s Club. Whitey loved his animals, he raised beagles and air-dales.
He enjoyed watching old western television shows such as Bonanza, Gunsmoke and Rawhide. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was “always the biggest kid”. Whitey was a character with a wonderful sense of humor. He was many things to different people. Whitey was “healthy as a horse, crazy as a loon and mean as a snake”, but always lovable and fun to be around.
In addition to his parents, Lawrence was predeceased by his wife, Hazel Lemery and his son, Frederick “Ted” Lemery, his brothers, Romeo Lemery, Harold Lemery, Irvin Lemery and Roland Lemery and his sisters, Jane Allen and Julia Lemery.
Survivors include his two sons, Thomas “Albert” Lemery of Hudson Falls and Lawrence “Jug” Lemery of Queensbury; his grandchildren, Michael Lemery and his significant other, Nichole Carl of Lake George, Jason Lemery of Glens Falls, Tina “Knothead” Lemery of Glens Falls, Scott Benson of Buffalo, Dusty Benson of Queensbury, Todd Lemery and his wife, Jen of Hudson Falls and Tad Lemery and his wife, Krista of South Carolina; his great grandchildren, Sophia, Nathanial, Julia, Ryder, A.J., Emery, Jeremy, Emily, Morgan, Scottie, Liam, Olivia, Ally, Jenna, Piper and Maddie; his sisters, Dorothy Crowley of Hudson Falls, Lorraine Bigelow of Argyle and Barbara Celeste of Queensbury; one special nephew, Earl Spellburg and his wife, Minnie of Queensbury; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 29, 2018, at West Pawlet Cemetery, located in West Pawlet, VT, with full military honors provided by Hudson Falls American Legion Post 574 Color Guard.
The family suggests that memorial donations in memory of Lawrence be made to Bay Ridge Rescue Squad, 1109 Ridge Road, Queensbury, NY 12804 or the Adirondack Veteran’s House, 26 Pine Street, Glens Falls, New York 12801.
Arrangements are under the care of the Carleton Funeral Home. Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.
