Linda Whiting

With hearts full of both sorrow and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Linda Whiting, a warm and kindred soul who passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025.

Born on December 22, 1951, to the late Patricia Ann Brown and stepfather John K. Brown, Linda grew up in Hudson Falls and graduated with the Class of 1969 from Hudson Falls High School.

Linda was deeply involved in the Order of the Eastern Star Triangle Fides Chapter 24 in Glens Falls. Crowned as a beloved queen in 1969, she found not only friendship and purpose but also the love of her life. Through the Eastern Star, she met her husband, Edward F. Whiting, whom she married in 1970.

Linda had a gift for finding joy in life’s little moments; whether playing a game of bingo, or discovering treasures at garage sales, or simply spending time with her family. She radiated warmth, offered quiet wisdom, and had a way of making everyone feel seen and loved. She also found comfort and joy in her favorite music, especially the songs of Kenny Chesney. His music often filled her home and heart.

Throughout the years, Linda lovingly earned the title of “Gram” from not just her grandchildren, but from many of their friends as well. Her home was always open, no one was ever turned away, and no one ever left hungry. She made everyone feel like family.

Her kindness extended beyond people. Linda had a lifelong soft spot for animals, especially cats. Over the years, she rescued and cared for many, treating each one with the same love, patience, and tenderness she gave to her friends and family. Her home was a sanctuary of comfort, not just for people, but for every creature who was lucky enough to find their way to her doorstep.

In addition to her mom and stepdad, Linda was predeceased by her husband Ed, her sister-in-law, Bonnie Brown, and her beloved in-laws, Ruth and Ed Whiting, whom she adored deeply.

Linda is survived by her three daughters, Tammy Murphy (Fred), Tricia Suddard (John), and Traci Whiting (Chris). She was a proud and loving grandmother to five grandchildren, Samantha Kelley (Dale), RJ Webster (Morgan), Morgan Suddard (Ray), Tristin Suddard (Bryanna), and Bella Heitmann. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Willow, Oliver, Odin (Josie), Stephen, Remi, Dalton, Novalee, Rogan, and Madelyn. Linda also leaves behind her two brothers, Rusty Riddell and Knox Brown, with whom she shared a special lifelong bond, her sister-in-law Kathy Hammond (Tom), as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025, from 2 pm to 4 pm, at Carleton Funeral Home located at 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls. In honor of Linda’s memory, we encourage you to do something nice for someone today, just as she did for so many throughout her life. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, in every warm meal shared, every life she touched, and every purring cat curled up in a safe corner of home.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Pathways Rehabilitation Center for the compassionate care Linda received. A special thank you goes to Doug Williams, her aide, who was so much more than just a caregiver, he was her friend. Her face always lit up when she talked about Doug, and the comfort, laughter, and companionship he brought to her in her final years meant the world to her and to those who loved her. His kindness will never be forgotten.

Cheryl was born in Glens Falls, NY and was the daughter of Leo and Sharon Maynard. In her formative years she was raised in Fort Ann, NY. She was taken from us too soon, but whether by bike, boat, or car she lived her life full throttle.  Cheryl was a vibrant woman with a zest for life and was beloved by everyone she encountered.

She always had her three sons in her heart Dan, Patrick, and Shaun and a daughter in law Tammy who she loved as her own. Cheryl was many things, but above all Cheryl was the heart and soul of her family, providing support, love, and stability to those around her. She was the one who always showed up, and usually with your favorite homemade treat exactly when you needed it. She was always fun to be around and made the hardest situations bearable. She radiated joy and loved fiercely.

She also shared his love for anything with a motor. Cheryl took pride in having  meticulously maintained home and yard which was possibly the most beautiful in Upstate New York. Her father taught her to work hard and play harder, and it was a lesson she passed down to her children, and her grandchildren. Cheryl traveled, rode her motorcycle, and attended motor car races until the very end of her life.

Cheryl worked at CR Bard for over 40 years. She grew a great deal as a person in her time there. She was perhaps most proud of obtaining her degree from SUNY Adirondack as a returning adult student.
