HUDSON FALLS – Linda E. Smith, 67, of Hudson Falls, passed away at her home, on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.
Born on December 11, 1952 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Charles G. and Leona E. (Russell) Ripley.
After graduating from Whitehall Central School, Linda earned her LPN from McClellan School of Nursing in Cambridge. Following graduation, she began her nursing career at Glens Falls Hospital. While working there as an LPN, she met her future husband and the love of her life, Marvin Smith. On February 25, 1978 they shared their love with family, friends and God at the Wesleyan Church on Ridge Road.
Linda was a hard worker, who loved her job at the hospital and most recently for Neighbors, New York.
The center of her life was her family and her faith. She was a member of the Northway Christian Family Church in Queensbury. Linda lived her life according to the Bible, by her beliefs, by the way she treated people and her church activities. At Church, she was part of the Children’s Ministry, teaching a class on a Sunday of each month.
Linda also loved sharing her past with her family. While growing up, her Grandmother Russell had a huge influence on her life. Linda enjoyed spending time with her and loved sharing stories about their life together.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Faye Irene Ripley.
Those left to grieve include her husband, of 42 years, Marvin Smith of Hudson Falls; her daughter, Erika L. Hicks and her husband, Bill of Orange Park, Fl; her grandchildren, Ashley Hicks and Ayden Hicks; two sisters, Mary Lou Petzoldt and her husband, Mark of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Jean Aurillo of South Glens Falls; her brother in law, Richard Aurillo; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Due to the health crisis, calling hours will be private at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date, with burial at Clemons Cemetery in Dresden.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to SPCA of Upstate NY, 588 Queensbury Ave., Queensbury, NY 12804.
I will always remember Linda from Northway Community Church as such a kind spirit and my heart breaks for all of her family because she has left this world, but I hope you find peace knowing her spirit is still alive in Heaven and with all those she has come into contact with in this life ❤️
My deepest sympathy for your loss, Marvin. My hope is that you are comforted by the Lord in this difficult time.

Wonderful having worked under you on the overnights at Eden Park ( The Pines)…You made the shift go by quickly…chatting about Grandbabies, Your sisters and growing up in Clemons, “My Marvin”, and The Beatles! I remember most when you sang “Hey Jude” while charting in the middle of the night….Lest I not forget about your other “man”, Sir Paul McCartney!!
Oh Lulu! I will miss you….You’re with your Savior and at Peace…You will
Be missed.

We were sadden to hear the passing of Linda. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Smith and Ripley families during these difficult times.
Loosing childhood friends is always hard especially at this time of uncertainty. Mary Lou and Jean, I will always remember the good times our families had together back when… What happened to those good times. We all grow older and grow apart. and hope our children and grandchildren have fond memories. Was down at the folks house recently and there was a picture of all us kids in an envelope??? Thinking of you and sending love and prayers.
Mary Lou and Jean – how sad I am to hear about the loss of your sister. Many times I think of our childhood – the card games at our parents home, play dates and so much more. Memories will always be with us. Cherish the good times and remember the outstanding qualities Linda possessed.

I am so sorry for your loss. Linda was a great friend and co-worker. I will miss her humor and her smile. We had some good times even when the work was difficult.
So sorry to hear of Linda’s passing. I’ve known her for almost 50 years, meeting her and (Marvelous) Marvin at Glens Falls Hospital. Lindy and I on “the gold coast” together. Everyone loved her there. We met again caring for Loretta Lackey, who became my mother-in-law. Again, she was loved by all for her kind and gentle disposition and loving care. So sorry for your loss, Marvin. Prayers go out to the whole family. Jo Marie
