FENNIMORE – Leon E. Ure, 90, went into the arms of the Lord, on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Glens Falls Hospital.
Born on August 5, 1934, in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of the late Donald R. and Fannie Beatrice (Morehouse) Ure.
Leon was a 1952 graduate of Saratoga Springs High School.
He was a lifelong auto mechanic, who specialized in everything Volkswagen. Leon worked for Bromley Imports in Glens Falls for years, before opening his own garage, Leon Ure’s Garage 1968. He was well known in the area as the man to go to for your Volkswagen. Leon retired at the age of seventy-three.
Leon had a great love for cars; he was a member of the Adirondack Car Enthusiasts. Over the past years, he could be found attending, assisting at many of the area car shows and helping others out with their car questions. Cars were his life, and he passed that love onto his family members. His family and him were able to create many memories surrounded by family and cars.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his longtime partner for over 30 years, Elaine Bortell, his two sisters, Ida Dingman and Fannie Whitney, his three brothers, Don Ure, Jr., Elliot Ure, Carl Ure and his son, Dan Ure.
He is survived his six children, Jim Ure, Debbie Diamond, Dave Ure and his girlfriend, Cheryle O’Keefe, Dru Ure and his wife, Joelyn, Denise Ure and Douglas Ure; numerous, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; his two sisters, Carol Irwin, and Alice Pillsbury; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
Memorial services will follow at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, at the funeral home.
