Lawrence L. Lemery

Lemery, LawrenceQUEENSBURY – Lawrence L. “Whitey” Lemery of Queensbury Ave., passed away on Monday, June 18, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on January 25, 1924 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Albert and Alice (Demerse) Lemery.

Whitey proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946.

On January 10, 1952, he married Hazel Hulett.  They were married 48 years, before her death in 2000.

Whitey retired from Ciba Geigy after 32 years of service.  Together with his brother Bucky, he owned an operated a welding shop, where they created beautiful ornamental iron works.

He attended St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls, every Sunday with his family, for many years.

Whitey enjoyed fishing at Glen Lake and “George’s Lake” and hunting in the Adirondacks.  He belonged to a hunting camp in Vermont and was a member of the Newcomb Sportsman’s Club.  Whitey loved his animals, he raised beagles and air-dales.

He enjoyed watching old western television shows such as Bonanza, Gunsmoke and Rawhide.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was “always the biggest kid”.  Whitey was a character with a wonderful sense of humor. He was many things to different people.   Whitey was “healthy as a horse, crazy as a loon and mean as a snake”, but always lovable and fun to be around.

In addition to his parents, Lawrence was predeceased by his wife, Hazel Lemery and his son, Frederick “Ted” Lemery, his brothers, Romeo Lemery, Harold Lemery, Irvin Lemery and Roland Lemery and his sisters, Jane Allen and Julia Lemery.

Survivors include his two sons, Thomas “Albert” Lemery of Hudson Falls and Lawrence “Jug” Lemery of Queensbury; his grandchildren, Michael Lemery and his significant other, Nichole Carl of Lake George, Jason Lemery of Glens Falls, Tina “Knothead” Lemery of Glens Falls, Scott Benson of Buffalo, Dusty Benson of Queensbury, Todd Lemery and his wife, Jen of Hudson Falls and Tad Lemery and his wife, Krista of South Carolina; his great grandchildren, Sophia, Nathanial, Julia, Ryder, A.J., Emery, Jeremy, Emily, Morgan, Scottie, Liam, Olivia, Ally, Jenna, Piper and Maddie; his sisters, Dorothy Crowley of Hudson Falls, Lorraine Bigelow of Argyle and Barbara Celeste of Queensbury; one special nephew, Earl Spellburg and his wife, Minnie of Queensbury; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 29, 2018, at  West Pawlet Cemetery, located in West Pawlet, VT, with full military honors provided by Hudson Falls American Legion Post 574 Color Guard.

The family suggests that memorial donations in memory of Lawrence be made to Bay Ridge Rescue Squad, 1109 Ridge Road, Queensbury, NY 12804 or the Adirondack Veteran’s House, 26 Pine Street, Glens Falls, New York 12801.

Arrangements are under the care of the Carleton Funeral Home. Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.
