GLENS FALLS – Katherine J. Root, 82, devoted mother, grandmother, and wife, passed away peacefully with her family at her side early Saturday morning, September 21, 2024 at the Glens Falls Hospital, after a short illness.
Born on October 13, 1941, in Tupper Lake, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Bernadette (Sovey) VanArnum.
Katherine was a graduate of Tupper Lake High School.
On February 20, 1959, she married Terry Root at St. Mary’s Church in Tupper Lake.
Katherine was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church for many years and more recently a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls.
She enjoyed reading books, making clothes for her children and gardening, but most of all tending to her home and taking care of her family were the center of her life.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sister, Susan Brown.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Terry Root of Glens Falls; her children, Lisa Jacoby and her husband, Jake of Georgia, Terry P. Root and his wife, Jodi of Hudson Falls, and Bryan C. Root and his fiancé Amy Engle of Glens Falls; her grandchildren, Kristen Bush and her husband, Jake of Fort Edward and Leah Root of Hudson Falls; her sister, Barbara Dumas of Hudson Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
A memorial service will follow the calling hours at 12:00 pm at the funeral home.
Following the memorial service, the Rite of Committal will be at Moss Street Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury. A gathering will follow at the American Legion on Pearl Street in Hudson Falls from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm.
The family would like extend their sincere thanks to the nurses and staff on Tower 3 and Tower 5 ICU at Glens Falls Hospital for the comforting care and compassion given during this difficult time.
