SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Jon W. Cooper, Sr., 76, of South Glens Falls, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, after a short illness.
Born on March 23, 1948, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Smith) Cooper.
Jon was a graduate of South Glens Falls and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired as Staff Sgt in the 98th Infantry Division, 389 Regiment Delta Company and continued his duties in the US Army Reserves.
Jon worked for CR Bard and for many years was employed at Native Textiles.
Throughout his life, Jon enjoyed many activities, such as hunting, camping and fishing in the Adirondacks. He was an accomplished guitar player who performed several times on WRGB station in the band,”Four Adventurers”.
Besides his parents, Jon was predeceased by his brother, George Johnson Cooper, Jr.
Survivors include his two devoted children, Jon W. Cooper, Jr and Stacey Sullivan and her husband, Matthew; his loving grandchildren, Kaitlyn Austin-Cooper, Brittany Cooper, Coulton Sullivan, Kimberly Sullivan and Tyler Cooper; several great grandchildren; his stepson, Matt Dow and his wife, Christie; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Nelson; his nephew, Michael Nelson and his significant other, Sharon; and his two nieces, Debbie Nelson and Melissa Cooper.
Friends may call on Monday, May 13, 2024 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.
Burial will follow at Pine View Cemetery in the town of Queensbury.
Memorial donations in Jon’s name, may be sent to Community Hospice, 179 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
