KINGSBURY – Collins A. Hitchcock, 94, of Kingsbury, went into the arms of the Lord on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at his home.
Born July 1, 1922, in Kingsbury, he was the son of the late Adolphus and Ruby (Wilson) Hitchcock.
During World War II, Collins left high school to serve with the United States Army Air Corps 100th Infantry. He served 38 months, with most of it on the front lines. He saw action at the Battle of the Bulge and the Ardennes. When he returned from the war, he received his G.E.D.
On May 2, 1959, he married Beverly McNaughton in Glens Falls.
Collins worked for many years for Sandy Hill Iron and Brass in Hudson Falls, worked as an Electrical Contractor and then was employed at General Electric Company in Fort Edward. He retired at the age of 70.
He was a member of the Kingsbury Baptist Church and a ham radio operator using the designation “W2GQF. He also enjoyed his Model A and was a member of American Legion Post 574 of Hudson Falls. Collins was quite honored to be the “Grand Marshall” of the 2013 Hudson Falls-Kingsbury Parade. He and his wife enjoyed wintering in Florida. Collins enjoyed baseball, football and Nascar. He liked to play the harmonica, especially gospel and bluegrass music.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a sister, Ethelyn Choppa and a brother, Norman Hitchcock.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Beverly (McNaughton) Hitchcock of Kingsbury; his five children, Terry Hitchcock of Missouri, Tammy Stopinski and her husband, Dean of Murfreesboro, TN, Kevin Hitchcock and his wife, Debbie of Springer, OK, Cynthia Pratt and her husband, Rob of Queensbury and Todd Hitchcock and his wife, Tina of Kingsbury; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.
A funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Kingsbury Baptist Church on Route 4 in the Hamlet of Kingsbury. With the Rev. Jeffrey Palmer, officiating.
Interment, with military honors, will take place at Kingsbury Cemetery, later in the spring.
