SOUTH GLENS FALLS – David Edward Bennett, 55 of South Glens Falls, passed away on Friday morning, July 28, 2023 at his home after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Born on March 10, 1968 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Edward D. and Catherine Marie (Cooper) Bennett. David lived in South Glens Falls his entire life and was a 1987 graduate of South High. For the past 15 years he worked for GL & V in Hudson Falls where he handled purchasing, but his heart was in public service. He was an EMT for West Glens Falls, Moreau, and Fort Edward Rescue Squads and was a proud life member of the South Glens Falls Volunteer Fire Department and just celebrated 30 years of service.

David loved hockey and was an off-ice official for the Adirondack Thunder and worked security for the games. He was a big fan of the Boston Bruins and the Boston Red Sox and would catch a game any time he could. Davids real enjoyment came from helping others and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a grandson, Skyler Bennett.

He is survived by his wife of almost 36 years, Jill Bennett; his son, Tim Bennett and his wife, Laura; his three grandsons, Jacob, Braydon and Ashton Bennett, all of South Glens Falls; three sisters, Tamala Jordon, Debbie Bennett and her husband, Phil, and Karen Harris and her husband, Randy; his brothers, Bill Bennett and his wife, Tina, William Hickok and his wife, Rachael, and Saul Scheafer; his mother and father in law, Clarence and Lorraine Pelkie; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friend may call on Saturday, August 5, 2023 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the South Glens Falls Fire Company on Route 197 in the town of Moreau. A memorial service will follow at 6:00 pm.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Darci A. Gaiotti-Grubbs as well as all the nurses and staff at the C.R. Wood Cancer Center for taking such good care of David throughout his illness.

FORT EDWARD – Peter C. Purner, 55, of Fort Edward, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, July 27, 2023 at his home with his brother, Michael by his side.

Born on April 6, 1968, in Glens Falls, he was a life-long area resident and son of the late Paul and Diane (Nicholson) Purner.

Peter grew up in Hudson Falls and was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School. He went on to college where he earned a degree in electronics. Peter worked at Xerox as a manager, and Bard, where he worked on designing, building and maintaining the electrical systems and equipment. His last job was at Finch Pruyn where he was an instrument tech for measurex, retiring at the age of 53. During his career, he took great pride in the efforts he made designing circuit boards for local businesses.

Peter was very active all his life. When he was younger, he enjoyed dirt biking, riding his YZ 80, and loved to go boating and slalom water skiing. Peter loved to take his boat up to Indian Lake and go camping in the summer. He was also a talented musician and played the guitar for many years. Peter was a skilled craftsman and mechanic and liked to restore classic cars, rebuild Harley Davidson motorcycles and fix outboard motors. He restored his entire home from the grass to the roof and was very proud of his work.

He is survived by his brother, Michael Purner (Brenda); his nieces and nephews, Amanda (Scott) Traylor, Joseph, William and Nikita Purner; his great niece and nephew, Zachary and Nyla Traylor; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 4, 2023, at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will take place at 12:00 pm at the funeral home following calling hours.

Burial will follow the funeral service at Glens Falls Cemetery on Bay Street, in Glens Falls.

HUDSON FALLS – Shirley Marie Mercier Case, 87, of Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at the Fort Hudson Health Care Facility in Fort Edward.

Born on February 17, 1936, in the town of Hampton, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Laura Mercier.

Shirley received her education at a one room schoolhouse in Hampton.  In her younger years, she loved to train and show horses.  For a time, she was co-owner of the Optical Center in Hudson Falls.  Shirley was an avid bingo player throughout her life.  She loved gardening.  Her homes were always surrounded by beautiful flower gardens and the inside filled with so many plants her children jokingly called it “the jungle”. Tiger Lilly’s were her favorite flower. In the late 80s she planted the flower gardens for the Sandy Hill Mill, where her husband George was a foreman.   Shirley spent much of her spare time crocheting beautiful blankets for all her children, grandchildren, and friends.  She also made and donated blankets for the elderly in Fort Hudson Nursing Home in the late 90s. Shirley had a love for all things. She would collect caterpillars and put them in a jar to watch them change into beautiful Monarch butterflies and then release them to the wind. She loved to fish, teaching her kids how to clean bullhead which was her favorite.

Above all was her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She always put others before herself.

Shirley was loved and adored by all that knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George Case and her son Theodore Ames.

She is survived by her three children, Timothy Ames of Ballston Spa, Theresa Ames of Moreau and Jason Mattison of Wasilla, Alaska; her five grandchildren, Kelly Ames, Jacob Mattison, Bradley Mattison, Tyler Mattison, and Emily Mattison; her sister, Marion Briggs of Connecticut; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Rite of Committal will be 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

HUDSON FALLS – Hugh “Jim” Riley, 72, recently of Glens Falls, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2023, following a long illness.

Born in Albany on February 16, 1951, Jim was the son of the late Hugh W. and Maude R. (O’Neal) Riley.

Jim was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School.

He married the late Jeanne Boucher on November 30, 1971, in Hudson Falls and started a family on Glen Lake with a daughter, Jennifer and then their son, Chris.

Jim spent his early years working alongside his dad at Riley Brothers Funeral Home in Hudson Falls. He was employed at Gordon Welding in Glens Falls for many years. Following his employment at Gordon Welding, Jim was an independent contractor working throughout Warren and Washington Counties.

In his younger days, Jim played semi-pro football for the Glens Falls Wings. He was an avid water and downhill skier. Jim was a member and President of the Adirondack Broomball League in Queensbury. He was a well-known local musician and professional bassist playing in many local rock bands. Jim really enjoyed terrorizing the residents of Glen Lake with his jetboat.

Jim’s hobbies included model railroading, metal detecting, and photography. He was also a wonderful woodworker. Whatever Jim did, he put immense pride in his work. Most of all, Jim enjoyed the special times he was able to spend with his family.

In addition to his parents and wife, Jim was predeceased by his Aunt Loretta Riley; and his special grand puppy, Tomaz, who he enjoyed spending time with.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Queiroz; his son, Chris Riley; granddaughters Sarah Gallagher, Ellie, and Evie Riley; his grandsons, Isac Queiroz, and Charlie Riley; his significant other, Carol Sperry; and his longtime childhood friends, Terry Gordon and Michael Woodell.

A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Anita E. Bishop, 79, of South Glens Falls, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, July 6, 2023, in her sleep.

Born on July 25, 1943, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Raymond F. and Pauline R. (Mitchell) Anderson.

Anita was a dedicated employee of General Electric where she worked for many years at General Electric until her retirement.

Following her retirement from GE she spent the remainder of her life with her precious grandchildren. Anita’s heart was filled with so much love and joy for her grandchildren. She took great pride in being a grandmother.

Anita loved to bake and cook for her family and friends. She always looked forward to the time of the year when she could send out her famous cookies and fudge. Anita had an enormous heart and never ran out of love. She helped so many people in her lifetime and never expected anything in return.

In addition to her parents, Anita is predeceased by her son, David White; her grandson, Michael White; her sisters Sandra Talejkowski, Patricia Jenders, and Donna-Ann Hendley; her brothers Donald Anderson, James Anderson, Michael Anderson, and Raymond Anderson.

Left to cherish Anita’s memories are her children, Frank (Debbie) White, Mike (Olga) White, Scott (Billy-Jo) White, Teresa White, and Christopher (Christy) White; her loving grandchildren Nicole, Justin, Dylan, Sofia, Victoria, Candace, Scott, Brittney, Alex, Timothy, Christopher, Harper, and Mallory; her great grandchildren; her sister Roberta Allen; and her brother Harry Anderson. Anita is also survived by dozens of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Anita is also survived by her best friend and companion for the last decade, her pet, Princess.

Anita was the matriarch of a huge family who loved her dearly until her final breath. Although she is gone, she will never be forgotten. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.

HUDSON FALLS – Mary M. Evans, 82, of Hudson Falls, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, following a brief illness.

Born December 7, 1940, in Hudson Falls, Mary was the daughter of the late Robert and Miza (Harrington) Hoag.

On July 15, 1961, Mary married Walter R. Evans at St Mary’s Church in Hudson Falls.

Throughout her life, Mary held various jobs, but her most important role was wife and mother.

Mary’s hobbies included crocheting and collecting hummels. She could be frequently found at any casino trying her hand at the slot machines.  Mary enjoyed playing bingo and scratch-off tickets. She will be remembered as a very tenacious, kind, and an independent woman. Mary cherished her time spent with her family during Christmas and other family gatherings. She especially loved to cook for her family. 

In addition to her parents, Mary is predeceased by her daughter, Kathleen Fenton; her siblings, Miza Barnes, Kathleen Andrews, Florence Perry and Marvin Hoag.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Walter R. Evans; her children, Marc Evans, Mary Maynard-Fenton and her significant other, Wayne Marviglio, Peggy Lindsey and her husband, Peter, Patricia Evans-Rodriguez and her husband, Jason; her grandchildren, Raymond, Walter, Terrance, and Shane Maynard, Heather Mattison, Caleb and Aiden Rodriguez; her five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Monday, July 17, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at 1:15 p.m at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.

Rite of Committal will follow the mass at St. Paul’s Cemetery on Vaughn Rd. in the town of Kingsbury.

GANSEVOORT – Donna Marie Manchester, 77, of Gansevoort, passed away surrounded by her loving family, on July 10, 2023, after a short illness.

Born on May 10, 1946, in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Margaret and Henry Hunt.

On March 7, 1970, she married Alfred Salmonson at the Baptist Church in South Glens Falls, together they had two children, Heidi and April.  He passed away in 2019.

On February 15, 1996, she married Wendall Manchester at their home in Greenfield Center.  He passed away on May 15, 2017, after 21 years of marriage.

Donna worked for various employers over the years in different factories and as a seamstress, eventually retiring from Target in Wilton.  The most important role she had in her life was taking care of her daughters.  She met her husband, Wendall, during her employment at Elsworth Ice Cream Factory in Saratoga Springs.  She enjoyed sewing and was a very talented seamstress who could duplicate just about anything.  When her girls were younger, she could be found making custom clothing for their Cabbage Patch Kids.  Donna also enjoyed square dancing and bowling in her younger years, she was an avid Elvis fan and loved sitting down to watch a Hallmark movie.

Besides her parents and husbands, Donna was predeceased by her brother, Michael Hunt.

Survivors include her two daughters, Heidi Taylor and her husband, Mike of Saratoga, April Salmonson of Gansevoort; her step grandchildren, Emily and Jazmyne Basped; her siblings, John Hunt, Robert Hunt (Sharon), Pearl Jarvis and Marjorie Dickinson (Zenas); several nieces, nephews and cousins; her close friend, Annie Pierce and her daughters’ dog, whom she loved, Brownie.

Friends may call, Friday, July 14, 2023, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., in Hudson Falls.

FORT EDWARD – Joanne “Jo” Wood, 61 of Fort Edward, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at Glens Falls Hospital after a long battle with Lymphedema. She was a true warrior and her positivity throughout her health challenges was amazing. Her ability to smile and keep a positive outlook during the most difficult times will remain with her family. She was, truly, an inspiration and always had a kind word no matter the situation.

Born on May 18, 1962, in Glens Falls, she was a life-long area resident and daughter of Mary (Martin) Keech and the late Donald Keech. Jo was a 1980 graduate of Argyle High School where she was involved with the FFA. On August 11, 1990, she married the love of her life, Byron Wood, at the VFW in West Glens Falls and they have enjoyed nearly 33 years of marriage together.

Jo worked for 27 years at CWI in Queensbury until health issues forced her to leave doing what she loved. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 574 in Hudson Falls and served many roles in the local, county, and state levels. Jo was also a wedding coordinator where she could show her creative side and help make a couple’s special day memorable. For four years she was a Girl Scout mom. She had a terrific personality and was always there to help anybody and everybody and could do just about anything she set her mind to. Jo enjoyed camping at Fish Creek and Rollins Pond as well as crocheting and sharing 80’s hits with her family whether they liked it or not. Jo enjoyed traveling while she was well with her favorite trips being to Maine, Boston, Florida, North Carolina, and Cape Cod. She was also an avid bingo player and made many friends there. She also enjoyed collecting anything made by Thomas Kinkaid and carousel horses. But most of all, she was a very proud Mema to the light of her life, her grandson, Owen.

In addition to her father, Donald Keech, she is predeceased by a brother, Toby Keech; her father and mother in-law, Ken and Joyce Wood; her brother-in-laws, John and Robert Wood; two very special aunts, TeeTee and Theresa as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Byron Wood of Fort Edward; a daughter, Jaime

Wood and her fiancé, Justin Porter of Fort Edward; her grandson and the light of her life, Owen Clark; her mother, Mary Keech of Argyle; brothers-in-law, Todd and Tim Wood; her honorary brother, David Regner and his wife, Ginny; her godson, Brian Regner; her nieces Victoria Averill, Brittany Wood and Cassandra Wilkins; her nephew, Kenny Wood; A special aunt, Dorothy Jones; two very special cousins Kim Keech and Thelma Young as well as numerous other cousins that were all very important to her.

HUDSON FALLS – Gail S. Tarn, 73, passed away surrounded by her loved ones at her daughter’s home on Saturday, July 8, 2023, after battling lung cancer.

Born on March 26, 1950, in Newark, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Ken and Jean (Deuchler) Tarn.

Gail enjoyed the time she spent with her family at family gatherings, cookouts, and shopping. Some of her favorite times were the weekly visits to see her brother Glenn and friends as they enjoyed their pizza parties. Gail loved her daily, four times a day, scratch off lottery ticket therapy. One of her favorite past time memories was when she would gather for the holiday season with her Aunt Joyce.

She was married to the late Michael Cicolella for 25 years. 

Gail’s children were everything to her.

Besides her parents, Gail was predeceased by her brother, Scott Tarn; her grandmother who she cared for until her passing, Evelyn Deuchler; her grandson, Dominic Smith; and her very special aunt, Joyce Muller.

Gail leaves behind her daughters, Anne Marie Smith and her former spouse, Jason of Hudson Falls, and Rosemary Diaz and her husband, Fausto Diaz of Forked River, NJ; her son, Kenneth Cicolella of Texas and his former spouse, Tina Pavlik Marottoli; her grandchildren, Marissa Johnson, Morgan Cicolella, Elijah Cicolella, Michelle Barber, Jason (Barber) Hart, Carmelo Diaz, and Chloe Diaz; her two great grandchildren, Stella Johnson and Nathan Barber; her brother, Glenn Tarn; Gail’s closest and dearest high school friend, who kept in contact with her all these years later and spoke to one another on the phone, Jackie Klug of Florida; and her close cousin, Shirley of Florida. Gail is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Especially her favorite nephew, JoJo.

Burial will be on Monday, July 17, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Somerset Memorial Cemetery Park, 95 Mount Airy Rd. in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Matthew B. Cronin, 73 formerly of Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully on Monday morning July 3, 2023 at home after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease and Diabetes.

Born December 10, 1949 in Glens Falls, he was a lifelong area resident and son of the late Bernard John and Mabel Elizabeth (Dwyer) Cronin. Matthew grew up in Hudson Falls and graduated from Hudson Falls High School. After high school he enlisted in the US Navy. Following his honorable discharge from the navy in 1975, Matthew received his Associate Degree from Adirondack Community College and continued on to Castleton University.

 Matthew completed training for police officers in June 1977 and began working as a police officer in Hudson Falls. Matthew later joined the New York State Department of Correction. He retired as a sergeant in 2005 from Great Meadow after 25 years of service. On May 6, 1978, he married the former Deborah Macy in Hudson Falls. Matt loved to play sports, especially golf. He was an avid New York Yankee and New York Giant fan. Matt loved history and was very knowledgeable on the subject. One of his fondest memories was visiting Gettysburg twice with his son Patrick. He enjoyed trips to the ocean in Maine and later Myrtle Beach with his family. Matt loved traveling to Las Vegas to see his two beautiful granddaughters and wished he could see them more often. He enjoyed watching his three grandsons playing baseball and football.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Mary Cronin, who died before he was born before her second birthday; and his father-in-law Victor Macy.

Matthew is survived by his wife of 45 years, Deborah Cronin; three children, Kathleen Mitchell (Marcus) of Las Vegas, NV, Patrick Cronin (Leah) of Moreau, and Daniel Cronin (Merika Fowles) of Las Vegas, NV; his grandchildren, Khloe and Mila Mitchell, Kaden, Wyatt and Hudson Cronin; his brothers Michael Cronin (Michele) of Hudson Falls, and Robert Cronin of Queensbury; his sister Cynthia Sawyer (Kelly) of Hudson Falls; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday July 11, 2023 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc, 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 80 Saratoga Avenue in South Glens Falls where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Robert Powhida.

Matthew will be laid to rest at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery in South Glens Falls.

Following Mass everyone is invited to a gathering at St. Michael the Archangel parish hall in South Glens Falls.

QUEENSBURY – Robert Fitzgerald, 78, of Queensbury, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at Albany Medical Center, after a short illness.

Born on July 17, 1944, in Newark, New Jersey, he was the son of the late John and Rose (McConihe) Fitzgerald.

Robert attended South Glens Falls High School.

In 1973, he married Marcia Murphy at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson Falls. One of Bobs proudest moments was being able to celebrate 50 years of marriage to his wife Marcia this past January.

Bob worked for Decora for 18 years as a Printer Operator.

He was a painter, he loved working in his yard, entertaining friends and family, Spending time with his grandchildren and great granddaughter.  Bob was so very proud of his daughters and grandchildren.  Supporting them in everything they did.  Bob loved his great grand-daughter, Khora, and cherished every minute he got to spend with her.  He will be greatly missed by all that loved and cherished him.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Joan Kelly and her husband Phil Kelly and his brothers, John Fitzgerald and Ronald Fitzgerald and his brother-in-law, Joe Ciccone.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Marcia Fitzgerald; his daughter, Cathleen (Kevin) Roberts and their children, Aaliyah (John), PFC Carter Roberts, Averielle and Cayden; his daughter, Nancy Fitzgerald and her son, Devin Nadeau; his great grand daughter and best friend, Khora Roberts; his  sisters, Dian (Mike) Brow, Judy (Lewis) Ross and Linda Ciccone; several brothers and sisters in law; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be on Monday, July 10, 2023, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home.

Rite of Committal will follow the funeral service at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

HUDSON FALLS – Alice Florence (Winchell) Murphy, 90, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born January 11, 1933, in Glens Falls, Alice was the daughter of the late Perle and Ida (Martindale) Winchell.

Alice grew up in Fort Ann with her 11 brothers and sisters. She was the proud Valedictorian of the Fort Ann graduating class of 1950. One of Alice’s favorite memories to share is when she received a perfect score of 100 on her Algebra Regent’s Exam.

She met and fell in love with James Murphy, and they wed in 1956. They spent their lives together in Hudson Falls where they raised 3 children.

Alice was employed for 30 years at SD Carruthers in Argyle. Her employers always made her feel like family. She enjoyed what she did for work and as a bonus, many lifelong friendships were formed.

Alice spent her days rooting for the Yankees and loved watching the Game Show Network. She looked forward to going on car rides and trying new restaurants. Alice’s favorite treat was ice cream. She cherished visits from family and friends. Alice’s sharp mind and quick wit always brought a smile to others.

In addition to her mother and father, Ida Martindale Winchell and Perle Winchell, Alice is predeceased by her husband James Murphy; her daughter Sheila (Murphy) Carpenter; her brothers, Richard (Louise) Winchell, Floyd (Rita) Winchell, George “Rip” (Grace “G.G”) Winchell, James (Joyce) Winchell, Howard “Mike” (Darlene) Winchell; her sisters, Shirley Winchell, and Mary (Bill) Toole; her nephews Donald Hill, Dale Hill, Craig Winchell, Bill Winchell, and Mark Toole; her nieces Cherilyn Winchell and Diana Winchell; her brother-in-law Carroll “Carl” Frost; her great niece Deanna Winchell; and her forever friends Leona and Joseph Holstein.

Alice is survived by her many loving family members: her daughter, Susan Murphy; her son, Jeff Murphy (Christine LaFountain); her grandchildren Sean, Emily, and Claire Murphy; and her sisters Gladys (Winchell) Frost and Carol Winchell.

She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Kathe (Bob) Hunt, Dana (Elaine) Winchell, John (Kim) Winchell, Donna (Jim) Granger, Carl (Stephanie) Frost, Jack (Jill) Frost, and Diane Winchell.

Alice was fortunate to be loved by many special relatives and friends, including Laura (Marc) Connor, Jennifer (Paul) Stockman, Katie Winchell, Genevieve Brodt, Lisa Holstein Wells, and Gail Holstein Danforth.

Alice was a mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt that was dearly loved by so many people. She would brighten everyone’s day. Alice had the kindest and sweetest soul. She will be so deeply missed by her family and friends. Her legacy will always live on in the lives that she touched.

Alice’s family would like to thank her Murphy-in-laws for all the support and love they have provided to Alice over the years. It was greatly appreciated.

Friends may call on Thursday, July 6, 2023, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home.

Rite of Committal will follow the funeral service at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

GLENS FALLS – Joyce (Gregory) Hammond, 84, of Glens Falls, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Glens Falls Hospital with her daughter Jennifer by her side.

She was born on May 16, 1939 in Yonkers NY and was the daughter of the late Harold and Mildred (Deyette) Gregory. Joyce grew up in Hudson Falls and attended Hudson Falls Central Schools. In her early years, she worked at General Electric and then went on to work in various positions at Queensbury Central Schools where she eventually retired. She was very well liked by the staff and the students at the school.

Joyce and her late husband, Sonny, were members of the Northeast Association of Country and Western Entertainers. They loved attending local country shows and gatherings together.

Joyce loved life and always kept her unique sense of humor. She would want to be remembered that way.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her first husband, Robert Baker; her second husband, Arthur “Sonny” Hammond, who was the love of her life; three sisters, Shirley, Doris and Beatrice: a brother, Richard; two daughters, Melissa Cash and Jami Baker; and an infant son, Kevin Baker.

She is survived by her son, Bob Baker (Gina); her daughter, Jennifer McIntosh; her grandchildren, Kurtis John, Samantha Gordon, David Beecher, Matthew Beecher, Zachary Plude, Robert Baker, Jr., and Casey Baker; a very special great-granddaughter, Emma Lee John; her brothers, Raymond Gregory (Linda) and Marvin Gregory.

Other survivors include her step-children, Steve Hammond (Nicki), Chrissy Bordon (Len), and Arthur “Bubby” Hammond (Hope); her very special niece and nephews whom she thought of as her own children, Cheryl LeVasseur (Fran), Richard Gregory, Stephen Gregory (Rebecca), and their mom, a very special friend and sister in law, Carol Mead Towne.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2023 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the American Legion Post 574, 72 Pearl Street in Hudson Falls.

Burial will be at a later date in Pine View Cemetery in Queensbury.
