Donald Chester Rempher

RempherHUDSON FALLS – Donald Chester Rempher, 75, of Notre Dame Ext., passed away on July 27, 2016, at Glens Falls Hospital with his loving family by his side.

Born on March 9, 1941, in Schroon Lake, he was the son of the late Earl A. and Julia (Grimes) Rempher.

Donald attended North Creek School, then Parochial School in Hudson Falls, and finished his high school education in Collegedale, Tenn. He then went on to attend a two-year business program at Wards School of Business in Worcester, Mass.

He was united in marriage with his school sweetheart, Retha Wells on July 21, 1963, at the Hudson Falls Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Donald was an employee of Kamyr Inc. for 35 years. He worked in the accounting department as an accountant. Donald was a member of the Kingsbury Seventh-day Adventist Church where he also served as a Treasurer and Deacon for many years.

In his later years, Donald avidly helped at the Kingswood Golf Course. He enjoyed collecting, cleaning, and returning golf balls for the golf course and greeting everyone who came to play. Donald enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting pieces and making baby blankets for family. He was a book enthusiast.  Donald loved spending time reading, collecting books, and visiting book sales. Donald also enjoyed jigsaw and suduko puzzles.

Donald is survived by his wife of 53 years, Retha Rempher of Hudson Falls; his four children: Donald William Rempher of Hudson Falls, Suzanne Nelson and her husband, Loren of Bismarck, ND, Tonya Turcotte and her husband, Mark of Lisbon Falls, Maine, June Scott-Grzybowski and her husband, Dennis of Buchanan, Mich; his grandchildren, Myrtie, Louis and Emma Scott and Lucas and Madisen Nelson; his brother, Robert Rempher and his wife, Margaret of Tenn; and his sister, Cathy Sullivan of Tenn.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends may call on Saturday, September 24, from 3 to 4 P.M. at the Seventh-day Adventist Church located at 3991 US-4, Hudson Falls. A memorial service will directly follow calling hours at 4 P.M.

Carl W. Beane

BeaneSARATOGA SPRINGS – GLENS FALLS – Carl W. Beane, 61, of Glens Falls, passed away at home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on June 22, 1955, in Burlington, VT, he was the son of Carl J. Beane and the late Patricia (Spear) Beane.

Carl served in the United States Air Force where he as a Sargent with the Military Police from 1973-1977.

He is married to his beloved wife, Marsha Rich-Beane.

Carl worked for Jerry Robusto Construction in Saratoga and JP Morgan Fire Restoration in Ballston Lake and Valued Homes in South Glens Falls where he worked till illness forced him to retire.

He enjoyed hunting, was an avid fisherman and was a beloved father, husband, son and brother.  He will be missed by many.

In addition to his mother, he is predeceased by sister Irene Donahue and a brother Richard Beane.

Survivors include his wife and his companion of 32 years, Marsha Rich-Beane of Glens Falls; his son, Carl R. Beane of Glens Falls; his father Carl J Beane of Arizona;  his brother and sisters, Robert Beane and his wife, Lynn of Vermont, Karla Smith and her husband, Randy of Vermont Charles Beane his wife, Lori of Vermont and Vivian Salcidso and her husband, Daniel of Arizona; his mother in law, Sharlene Rich and many extended family members in the Rich family and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours.

A graveside service, with military honors will take place on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery on Duell RD in the town of Stillwater.

Katherine (Louise) DeLano

DeLanoHUDSON FALLS – Katherine (Louise) DeLano, 93, formerly of the of Earl Towers, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2016, at the Fort Hudson Healthcare and Rehab Center, in the town of Fort Edward.

Born Nov. 21, 1922 in Shelbyville, IN, she was the daughter of the late Sherman and Katherine (Morelle) Miller. Katherine grew up in Savanah, GA.

Her husband, Robert DeLano, died in 1982.

Mrs. DeLano worked for Native Textiles in Glens Falls for 32 years.

She loved her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading.  She was very spiritual and prayed daily.  At family gatherings it was important to her that everyone was well fed.

Mrs. DeLano was a member of the Auxiliary to American Legion Post 574 in Hudson Falls.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by one son, John DeLano, a daughter Joyce Tarantino, her brothers, LeRoy and Lawrence Miller, and a very special friend, Grace Wiggins.

Survivors include her children, Gary DeLano and his wife, Judy of Niskayuna, NY, Donald DeLano and partner Carl of Murrells Inlet, SC, Michelle Hughes of Fort Edward, and Anita Daily and he husband, Jim of Friendship, NY; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 11 to 1 at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM on Tuesday (following calling hours) at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Moss St. Cemetery, on State Route 4, in the town of Kingsbury.

Royadon “Roy” Cleavland

cleavlandGLENS FALLS – Royadon “Roy” Cleavland, 76, of Ridge Street, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the Glens Falls Hospital, following a short illness.

Born June 29, 1940 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Emery and Julia (French) Cleavland.

He attended Hudson Falls High School and later received his G.E.D. in Ballston Spa.

For many years he drove truck for Northern Homes, formerly located in Hudson Falls.

He was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Hudson Falls and enjoyed travel and bowling.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, Guy, Ralph, Gessler and Sargent Cleavland and two sisters, Addie Roberts and Ella Maxwell.

He is survived by two sons, Mark Cleavland and his companion, Christeen of Greenwich and Todd Cleavland of Whitehall; four grandchildren, Felicia Olney, Courtney Cleavland, Todd Cleavland, Jr. and Benjamin Cleavland; his great-grandchildren, Alexis Stephens  and Alyssa Olney, Jaxson Harpp and Thomas Fuller; one sister, Lucilea Lewis of Ballston Spa; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and two sisters in law, Beverly Cleavland of Glens Falls and Nina Cleavland of Fort Edward. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Nancy Warner of Saratoga Springs.

Friends may call on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gospel Lighthouse Church on LaCross St. in Hudson Falls

Richard “Freddie” Whittington

Richard “Freddie” Whittington

whittingtonHUDSON FALLS – Richard S. Whittington, 64, a lifelong resident of Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 20, 2016 with his sisters by his side following a courageous battle with cancer.

Freddie, a nickname given to him by his friends, was born September 10, 1951 in Glens Falls Hospital to the late Rowland and Kathyrn (Williams) Whittington.

He was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School, Class of 1970. Following graduation, he went to work at the Lake George Bowl.  He also worked at Lakeshore Garage in Warrensburg, LeRoy Holding in Glens Falls, and retired due to his illness in 2015 from the Warren County DPW.

Freddie was one of the top area bowlers for many years. He was an avid motor sports fan, and spent several years as crew chief on his good friend Don VanGuilder’s #12 dirt modified racing throughout the Northeast and Canada.  He enjoyed watching television, especially NASCAR and the NHRA.  He also enjoyed going to casinos.

He is predeceased by his parents, and brother John “Hoss” Whittington, whom he missed dearly.

He is survived by his sisters Jane Ann Perkins and husband John, and Beth Whittington as well as his sister-in-law Susan (Gilbert) Whittington all of Hudson Falls.

He was “Uncle Dick” to Catherine Perkins of High Bridge NJ, Jason Whittington and wife Tina (Tuthill) of South Glens Falls, and Rebecca Whittington and partner Evan Edwards of Gansevoort. He was great uncle to Justin and Tyler Whittington, and Lauren Edwards.  He was extremely proud of them all!  He is also survived by several cousins.

Also surviving are his great friends, Don VanGuilder, Naylor Wells, and so many others who visited him during his illness and lifted his spirits.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. on Monday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 89 Main St., Hudson Falls. With Freddie’s fondness for the casual life, his family requests you dress casual if attending his services.

Burial will take place at the convenience of the family at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Nellie (Ydikoski) Vaughn

Vaughn, NellieHUDSON FALLS – Nellie (Ydikoski) Vaughn, 95, a lifelong Hudson Falls Resident, went into the arms of the Lord, just before her 96th Birthday on Monday, July 18, 2016, at the Pines in Glens Falls.

Born on September 17, 1920, in Glens Falls to the late Joseph and Bernadette (Trabytus) Ydikoski.

Her husband, Harold Vaughn passed away in 2013.

Nellie was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls. She enjoyed swimming, picnicking with family, playing cards, watching her family grow and most of all the time she spent just being with family.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Kathleen Vaughn, her granddaughter, Kelly Burns and her three sisters, Anna, Julia and Amelia and their husbands, and two sons in law, Jack Deyette and Michael Burns.

She is survived by her three daughters, Patricia Deyette of Hudson Falls, Diane Murray and her husband Fonsie of Hudson Falls and Carol Basilio and her husband, Dominic of Queensbury; her grandchildren, Jack Deyette, Jr., and his wife, Sharon, Tammy Deyette, Shannon Potter and her husband, Todd; her great grandson, Matthew Ballard, II; and several nieces and nephews.

OudekerkHUDSON FALLS – Gloria Oudekerk, 76, formerly of Notre Dame Street, passed away unexpectedly, on Friday, July 15, 2016.

Born on June 19, 1940, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Mary (Scheff) Corlew.

Gloria was a graduate of South Glens Falls High School.

She was a private sitter at Hallmark Nursing Home in Glens Falls and a nurse’s aide at the Glens Falls Hospital.  After 25 years of service, Gloria retired from C. R. Bard in Queensbury.

Gloria enjoyed helping people of every walk of life.   She gave her heart, her time and her money to make life easier for others.  Gloria also loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and her dog, Yogi.  She enjoyed taking boat cruises in Lake George on the Mini Ha Ha, going for walks around the neighborhood and checking out garage sales.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Dale Oudekerk, her brother, Butch Corlew and the father of her children, Ronald Oudekerk.

Gloria is survived by her five children, Phyllis Oudekerk of Hudson Falls, Linda Barton, also of Hudson Falls, Mary Oudekerk and her fiancé, Ricardo Acosta of Fort Edward, Allen Oudekerk of Canton, Ohio and Ronald Oudekerk, Jr. of Hudson Falls; her six grandchildren, five great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; her sister, Betty Jones of Hudson Falls; and one nephew.

Brian W. LaPoint

LaPoint, BrianHUDSON FALLS – Brian W. LaPoint, 62, formerly of Hudson Falls and currently of Sherman Ave. in Glens Falls, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 9, 2016, at his home.

Born on October 14, 1953, in Glens Falls, he was the son of Wayne B. and Edna M. (VanBuren) LaPoint.

Brian graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1973. During the summers, he was employed by the Village of Hudson Falls.  Later Brian worked at Pallets, Inc., in Fort Edward and Robinson and Smith in Gloversville.  Brian was a veteran of the United States Army.

In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting at his home with his father.  Brian also bowling.

Survivors include his son, Brian E. LaPoint of Hoosick Falls; his daughter, Jessica R. LaPoint and grandson Keagan Beaney of Hudson Falls; his brother, Kevin LaPoint and his wife, Theresa of Colonie; his sister, Michele R. Ludeman and her husband, Matthew of Moreau; nieces and nephews, Adam Ludemann, Amanda (George) Reese, Matthew (Laura) LaPoint, Meghan Lapoint and Jonathan LaPoint; as well as an aunt, uncles, cousins and their families.

A memorial calling hour will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016 from 10 am to 11 am, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., with memorial services to follow at 11 am at the funeral home.

Anna Mae Sawyer

Sawyer 1 Sawyer 2LAKE GEORGE – Anna Mae Sawyer, 68, of Rock Hill and Lake George, passed away on July 11, 2016, at her home.

Born on May 19, 1948, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Jeremiah Francis Leary and Anna Mae (Stewart) Leary.

Ann was a graduate of Glens Falls High School.

Ann lived in Sullivan County for over 30 years and raised two beautiful daughters.  She was an exceptional bowler and loved to travel and see the world.  Ann made friends everywhere she went.  It should be said that she always enjoyed a good sale!   Ann was also known to be a Jane of all trades…  you could always find a set of tools in her car.   Ann worked as Purchasing Agent for Community General Hospital in Harris, NY.  She spent the last several years enjoying retirement on Lake George and watching the boats go by.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Terrence Tucker.

She is survived by her two daughters, Maureen Sawyer and Kerri Sawyer; her siblings, Thomas Tucker, Geraldine Leary, Bryan Leary and Christie Dean Leary; and several nieces, nephews, cousins as well as countless friends.

Katherine Joyce Stevens Graves

Graves, KatherineCORINTH – Katherine Joyce Stevens Graves, 83, of Wilton Mountain Road, in Corinth died on July 11, 2016, at the Glens Falls Hospital, after years of diabetes, heart and kidney problems.

She was born in Westport, the daughter of the late Arthur and Anna Stevens.

Mrs. Graves was one of 15 children, Mrs. Graves was a caregiver of the sick and elderly for more than 30 years.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 28 years, Donald J. Graves, Sr. and a companion of 13 years, Morris Clothier, a great grandson, Liam Dano, (son of grand-daughter Christine and Mark Dano), her brothers, Harold, Arleigh, Arthur Jr., Foster, Lawton and Harlan Stevens, her sisters, Hazel Lewis, Arline Bronson, Esther Crouningshield and Aletha Howard.

Her survivors include her children, Wanda Latham of Steamboat Springs CO, Donald J. Graves and his companion, Shirley of South Glens Falls and Thurman, Michael J. Graves and his companion, Barbara Lee of Queensbury and Kevin J. Graves of Virginia Beach, VA; her grandchildren, Mark Latham and his companion, Jill of Steamboat Springs, Co, Keith Latham and his wife, Jen of Steamboat Springs Co, Christine Dano and her husband Mark of Rome, David Graves of Albany, Sara Graves of Virginia Beach, VA, Kelly Graves of Florida, Tom Graves of Glens Falls and Eric Graves of Glens Falls; her great grandchildren, Ashley Latham of Steamboat Springs Co., Mari Dano of Rome, Xzavier Dano of Rome, Blake Graves of Virginia Beach, VA, Dylan Latham of Steamboat Springs, CO; also a special nieces, Sheila Robare of Keesville; her special friend, Fran Bruce of Fort Ann; and many nieces and nephews; she is also survived by two brothers, Lloyd and Douglas Stevens.

Dorothea Miner Martin

MartinHUDSON FALLS – Dorothea Miner Martin 93, formerly of the G. Roswell Earl High Rise, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at the Indian River Nursing Home in Granville.

Born April 2, 1923 in Fitchburgh, MA she was the daughter of the late Robert G. and Eva (Tanner) Miner.

Mrs. Martin worked as a chambermaid for many area hotels including the Queensbury Hotel in Glens Falls.

Her husband, Alvin Martin, died July 3, 1988.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hudson Falls for many years.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, Robert J. ner, Guy Robert Miner and Donald Wayne Miner and a sister Lura Dailey

She is survived by two sons, Robert Sargent, Sr. and his wife, Marie of Hartford and Gary Sargent, Sr. and his wife, Barbara of Waterford, PA; one daughter Lucilla Cantu of California; 13 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Frank (Josephine) Scevitti of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

There are no services scheduled.

John “Howard” Gonyeau

GonyeauHUDSON FALLS – John “Howard” Gonyeau, 89, of Hudson Falls, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2016, at his home.

Born on October 18, 1926, in Ticonderoga, he was the son of the late John and Viola (Hurlburt) Gonyeau.

John was a US Navy Veteran, serving during World War II.

His wife, Velma Hughes Gonyeau died before him.

John retired after 40 years of service at General Electric Co in Fort Edward.

He enjoyed woodworking and his garden.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brother, Richard Gonyeau and son in law, Chris DeLong.

He is survived by his three daughters, Diane Dickinson and her husband, Karl of Hudson Falls, Marlene DeLong of South Glens Falls and Melissa Liebl and her husband, Gary of Hadley; his grandchildren, Dawn Winslow and her husband, ken, Philip Dickinson and his wife, April, Robert Gonyeau, John Girard and his wife, Jessica, Jessica Liebl, Danielle Liebl and Lyle DeLong; his great grandchildren, Krystal Winslow, Benjamin Dickinson, Hunter Girard, John Girard, Jr., Tiffany Girard, Caleb Girard and Cole DeLong; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Deborah (Hart) Rossi

RossiHUDSON FALLS – Deborah (Hart) Rossi, 46, of Hudson Falls, went into the arms of the Lord on Friday, July 1, 2016, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on February 16, 1970, in Glena Falls, she was the daughter of Albert and Lauren ((Diffee) Hart.

On September 12, 1992, she married Anthony Rossi in Hudson Falls at her Aunt Corky’s house.

Debbie loved animals. Family parties. Traveling, including to Florida with her husband and family.  Her pride and joy was her son Anthony and her grandson, Oliver.

She is predeceased by her grandmothers, Velva Diffee and Lucy Hart.

Survivors include her husband of 23 years, Anthony Rossi, Sr, of Hudson Falls; her son Anthony Rossi, Jr. and his wife Shannon, of Glens Falls; her grandson Oliver Rossi; her parents, Albert and Lauren Hart of Hudson Falls; her siblings, Albert Hart, Jr. and his wife, Jami Blair of South Glens Falls and Brian Hart and his girlfriend Theresa Jones of Hudson Falls; his nieces and nephews, Mark Hart, Hailey Hart, Hope Hart and their mother, Rose O’Donnell, Brock Stansfield, Cameron Stansfield, Lasandra Stansfield, Charlie Hart and Zoya Hyatt; her mother in law, Ann Rossi and her companion, Fred Combs of Waterford; her brother in Law Dominic Rossi and his wife, Vicky of South Glens Falls; several aunts uncles nieces, nephews and cousins; and her longtime friend Shelly Farrington.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

The Rite of Committal will follow at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Memorial donations in Debbie’s memory may be made to the Charles R. Wood Cancer Center, 100 Park St., Glens Falls, NY 12801.
