Jessie I. George

HUDSONFALLS – Jessie I. George, 95, of Blenor Ave., went into the arms of the Lord, at the Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 30, 2017.

Born on March 3, 1922 in Hudson Falls, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Edna (Carpenter) Jenkins.

Jessie was a 1940 graduate of the Glens Falls High School.

On August 26, 1949, she married Robert George in Cumberland, Maryland. He died on March 2, 1997.

Before her marriage, she was employed at Finch Pruyn Company in Glens Falls. Later, Jessie worked at Sherwood Medical in Argyle, retiring in 1988. She then worked several years at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home, where she assisted in feeding the elderly patients.

She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Hudson Falls, where she was a deaconess for many years. Jessie also ran the church thrift shop and was chairman of the trustees.

She belonged to the South Glens Falls Senior Citizen Club. Jessie enjoyed bowling with the Senior Citizen League and she also loved to dance.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son Robert J. George, and two brothers, Morgan A. Jenkins and Irving F, Jenkins

Survivors include one son, Richard A. George and his longtime companion, Valerie Clark of Hudson Falls; a granddaughter, Melissa A. LaBrake and her husband, Shawn of of Hudson Falls; two great grandchildren, Laconia and Dakota LaBrake; three nephews, Larry Jenkins and his wife, Roxanne, of Argyle, Leonard Jenkins and his wife, Sharon, of Hebron and Roger Jenkins and his wife, Mary, Hudson Falls; and several cousins and special friends. She is also survived by her special friend Solon Sherman.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, Hudson Falls.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert McCrory, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Hudson Falls, officiating.

Burial will take place at the convenience of the family at at Bay Street Cemetery in Glens Falls.

Jessie’s family suggests that memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Hudson Falls, 118 Main Street, Hudson Falls, NY 12839.

Alberta Irene Patten

Patton Alberta Old retouch patton, albertaQUEENSBURY – Alberta Irene Patten, 94, passed away September 24, 2017 at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home.

Born June 26, 1923 in Hudson Falls, N.Y., Alberta was the daughter of Margery (Thomas) and Raymond Pelkey.

Alberta was raised in Hudson Falls graduating from Hudson Falls High School, Class of 1941. On August 10,1947, Alberta married E. Harold Patten of Hartford, N.Y. Mr. Patten passed away in 1988. Employed for well over 48 years in the Classified/Advertising Department of the Post Star, she fondly recalled them as good years with good people; amongst them Barb Adams, Kathy Hamel! and Dick Mulcahy.

Alberta was a life-long member of the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church where she also taught Sunday school.

Some of Alberta’s fondest childhood memories were picnicking and berry picking in the Adirondacks to help pay the taxes and camping with her family in Ausable Forks, N.Y. She loved both the first snow of winter and her favorite chore churning the wheel to make maple walnut ice cream with her Mom. In addition to being a history buff, Alberta enjoyed watching professional ice skating, tennis and golf.

But Alberta’s greatest joy was found in her love for her family. Being present in earlier years and then much later through words, pictures and videos, Alberta witnessed the unfolding of her families’ lives. Her family was God’s greatest gift to her and Alberta’s legacy to them is “Because God first loved us, we are able to love one another.”

Besides her parents and husband, Alberta was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Norma Ruth Patten, sisters Violet Mayette and Hilda Hamelin, brothers Alfred and Raymond Pelkey and Alberta’s twin brother Albert.

 

Her survivors include her four children: Sue Grant of Glens Falls, Paul Patten and his wife Sheila of Hudson Falls, Dean Patten of Plattsburgh and his long-time companion, Debbie Nesbitt of Port Henry, and Breck Patten and his wife Donna of Hadley. She is survived by her five grandchildren: Joel Patten of Hudson Falls, Heather Patten of Hudson Falls, Ben Grant and his wife Julie of Victory Mills, Jen Bhadra and her husband Suv of Menio Park, California, and Samantha Grant of Queensbury. Alberta is also survived by her four great-grandchildren: Micah and Mya Grant of Victory Mills, Alex Grant of Queensbury and Matty Bhadra of Menio Park, California. Several nieces and nephews survive.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Alberta’s memory may be made to the West Glens Falls Emergency Squad, 86 Luzerne Rd. Queensbury, N.Y. 12804.

Private graveside services for the family will be held at Union Cemetery, Upper Broadway in the town of Fort Edward on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 1 p.m.

William “Bill” McGovern, Sr.

McGovern, WilliamSOUTH GLENS FALLS- William “Bill” McGovern, Sr., of South Glens Falls, passed away on Saturday September 23, 2017.

Born on October 7, 1950 in New York City, he was the son of the late Thomas and Helen (LeBright) McGovern, Sr.

Bill’s younger years were spent in Manhattan, until his family moved to Glens Falls.    At that point, he resided on Crandall Street in Glens Falls, where Bill attended Glens Falls High School.

He worked for many years at SCA Tissue, previously known as James River, and Patrician Paper Co. in South Glens Falls. Bill enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and friends on road trips to Atlantic City, watching football games, and days at the Saratoga Race Course.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Thomas McGovern, Jr.

Survivors include his children, William McGovern, Jr. and his companion, Stacey LaFountain of Glens Falls, Patricia McGovern of Queensbury and Dan McGovern and his wife, Annette Parisi of Saratoga Springs; his grandchildren, Gage Fuller of Massachusetts and Matthew McGovern of Corinth; his sister in law, Deborah McGovern of Saratoga Springs; his nieces+, Katie McGovern and her husband, Michael Schin of Saratoga Springs and Shannon McGovern of Queensbury; and other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours are scheduled for Friday, September 29, 2017 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.  at the Carleton Funeral Home, 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Burial will be at a later date at St. Mary’s Cemetery in South Glens Falls.

Bill’s family suggests that memorial donations in his memory to be made to the Moreau Emergency Squad Inc. at 1583 U.S. 9, Fort Edward, NY 12828.

Michael J. Dobroski

Dobroski, MichaelPOMPANO BEACH, FL formerly of HUDSON FALLS – Michael J. Dobroski, 64, of Pompano Beach, FL, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at his home.

Born on February 23, 1953, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Andrew and Catherine (VanTassell) Dobroski.

Michael was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School and then furthered his education, earning his Liberal Arts Degree.

Michael worked for many years as a Customer Service Manager at Stone Gate Bank in Hollywood, Florida.

He adored his dog Dexter and was always the favorite uncle to his nieces and nephews.

Michael is survived by his brothers, William Dobroski and his wife, Frances of Ballston Spa, Peter Dobroski and his wife, Frances of Dover, New Hampshire and Andrew Dobroski and his wife, Linda of Lake George; his nieces and nephews, Meghan and her husband, Scott, Nicholas, Katherine, Andrew, Jr., Zachary and Erica Dobroski; and his good friend Harry Combs of Pompano Beach, Florida.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be 11 am on Wednesday, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls

Connie A. Coughlin

Coughlin, ConnieHUDSON FALLS – Connie Anne Coughlin, 56, of Hudson Falls, went to join her sister Linda and her Mother, Lee, on Wednesday, September 20, 2017.

Born on February 14, 1961, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of  Douglas Coughlin of Hudson Falls and the late Eola “Lee” Duprey.

Connie was a graduate of the Hudson Falls High School Class of 1979.  She then furthered her education at Binghamton University, earning her Nursing Degree.

Connie served as a nurse for many years at Emma Lang Stevens and for almost 30 years as a flight attendant for Delta Airlines, where she saw the world.

She was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.

Connie loved horses, casinos and watching her son play sports.  She was also an avid Dallas Cowboys and Red Sox Fan.  Connie loved her pool and spending time in her back yard.  most of all, Connie loved her family and friends.

In addition to her mother and sister, she was predeceased by her Aunt Alice.

She is survived by her son, Ricky Ficarrotta and his fiancé, Moira Nolan of Queensbury; her beloved granddaughter and the apple of her eye, Fiona “Baby Girl” Ficarrotta, her nephew, John O’Hara and his companion, Jenny Zeno of Hudson Falls; her father, Douglas Coughin and his wife, Barb of Hudson Falls; and her beloved fiancé, Dan Rouse of Hudson Falls; and several cousins.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, September 25, 2017, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls.

Marion Elizabeth(Beth) Labourr

HUDSON FALLS – Marion Elizabeth(Beth) Labourr LaBourepassed away peacefully Monday, September  18, 2017 at the age of 101 surrounded by her loving family.

Beth was born in Phoenix, NY , the daughter of Molly and John Mullen, on January 3, 1916. In January of 2016 she  celebrated her 100th birthday with a gathering of 26 family members.

Beth was a graduate of Phoenix High School and Oswego Normal School where she received a teaching certificate in elementary education.  While teaching in Phoenix,  she met  John Bernard Labourr whom she married on June, 23 1941.  They moved to Hudson Falls when Bernie took a job as a biology and chemistry teacher at Hudson Falls High School.  Here they remained to raise their family and later  enjoy retirement together.

Beth postponed her teaching career until her children were grown. She then returned to teaching kindergarten at Maple Street School in Hudson Falls.  She loved teaching and reluctantly resigned when her husband retired believing she should be available so they could spend time together and travel.  Bernie loved to get behind the wheel and go! They  travelled throughout much of the United States and Canada  visiting friends and relatives .

She was the consummate home maker creating traditional Sunday dinners for the family; always included were her delicious homemade pies.  Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday, and she enjoyed making the Thanksgiving dinner for the extended family until the age of 92, even by herself after her husband died. Every holiday was an occasion to gather the extended family.

Their camp on Lake George was the hub of family gatherings in summer. Each June Beth and Bernie would load up the car and move to “camp.”  Here they hosted family and friends most every weekend from July  through September wanting to share the lake they loved with their guests.  On Labor Day weekends Beth would prepare a complete turkey dinner for the family and whatever guest might drop in.

Beth loved to dance! Music was in her soul having played both piano and cello in her youth. For many years she took aerobic dancing at the Glens Falls YMCA.  She and Bernie were a team!  For several  years they were  members of the Merry Mohicans Square and Round Dance Club and  for two years  served as co-presidents.  They made many wonderful friends in this group some of whom also shared their love of bridge.   Beth and Bernie were  bridge partners in a few different  couples’  groups.  Beth also enjoyed duplicate bridge at the Queensbury Hotel and the Queensbury Senior Center and was a long standing member of the ladies’ “Thursday Bridge Group.”

Beth was predeceased by her husband of 58 years and  her parents as well as  two sons, infant son, Stephen Labourr,  and James Roger Labourr .  Her sisters,  Margaret Mullen Madey and Julia Mullen Boulet also predeceased her as did brothers-in-law, Donald C. Labourr and Reginald H. Labourr.

Beth’s surviving family includes her three children and their spouses: Judy and Bob Judge of Queensbury;  John and Anne Labourr of Queensbury; and Donald and Lil Labourr of Seattle, WA.  Her beloved grandchildren are:  Dr. Stephen Judge (Gretchen) of Rochester, NY;  Dr. Jennifer Judge of Delmar, NY; and  Dr. David Judge (Elizabeth)of Queensbury;  Christine (Bill) Feerick of Amsterdam, NY ; and Julie (Dave) Lapham of Saratoga, NY;  Jenna Labourr of Seattle;  Aubrey Labourr, of Los Angeles  and Derek Labourr of Seattle.  Beth always enjoyed young children, and her great grandchildren were a special  joy  to her: Danny, Brian and Matthew Judge;  Elizabeth and Katherine Nagy;  Kaylin and Jason Feerick ; and Cole Judge. Beth also leaves behind her nieces, Molly Carroll of Buffalo, NY and Kathleen Moran of Scituate, MA; and her nephews, Mark LaBourr of Arkport, NY  and Harvey R. LaBourr of Rochester, NY.

The family wishes to thank Nancy Tracy, Dawn Winney, Ruth Carson, Yeanda Tracy and Mariann Carra and Linda Rosati  for their kind and compassionate help;  Beth’s wonderful neighbors, including Marlene Santoro,  and her dear friends, Lil and Ralph Nicolson.  You each enriched her life.

A funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, officiating.

The Rite of Committal  follow at Pineview Cemetery  in the town of Queensbury.

Richard Joseph Danahy

QUEENSBURY – Danahy,, Sr., 66, passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer on Monday, September 18, 2017.

Born on May 9, 1951, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Leo and Rita (Metraw) Danahy.

He worked at SCA Tissue for over 40 years. Anyone who knew him knew he was a hard worker.  Richard loved spending time with his family especially camping and fishing with his grandchildren. He also loved cooking and gardening and tooling around the house.

Predeceased by his parents Leo and Rita Danahy and his sons, Rian Danahy and Adam Danahy and the love of his life Ella.

He is survived by his sister, Linda Potter of Waterbury, Ct; his brothers,  Michael Danahy and his wife, Diane of Queensbury, Daniel Danahy of Queensbury; and his children, Merri-Ellen Palmer and her significant other, John Hack of Hudson Falls, Richard Danahy, II of Queensbury, Jeremy Danahy of Queensbury,  Sadie Danahy of Queensbury, and Jodee Danahy and her Fiancé, David Scoville of Glens Falls; his grandchildren, Sara Palmer, Jennifer Palmer, Nathan Palmer, Samuel Easter, Celena Danahy, Ryan Danahy, Nicholas Danahy, Aryan Thompson, Jeremy Danahy Jr, Simon Trombley, Natalee Reynolds, Ryder Scoville and Ella Scoville; his great grandchildren, Lauren Bailey and Adriana Henry; and several nieces and nephews; and the Dean family who he considered his family always.

The Rite of Committal will be conducted 1 pm on Wednesday, September 27, at Pine View Cemetery in the town of Queensbury.

The family would like to thank all of the staff of the CR Woods Cancer Center especially Dr. Stoutenburg, Rebecca and Barb, the staff at Glens Falls Hospital especially the T2 staff and The Community Hospice for their excellent care of our Father.

Regina (Skellie) Kill

HUDSON FALLS- Regina (Skellie) Kill, 86, of Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 18, 2017, at Indian River Health and Rehab. Center in Granville.

Born on August 30, 1931, in Glens Falls. She was the daughter of the late William and Olive (Hermance) Skellie.

She attended school at Glens Falls High School.  She was a graduate of 1949.

Regina  married  Robert L. Kill on October 12, 1952, whom predeceased her on June 22, 1989.

Regina worked at Hudson Falls High School within the lunch office for several years and worked in Glens Falls Hospital in medical records for thirty years, before her retirement.

She volunteered at Dix Ave School reading to children and enjoyed it dearly.

Regina enjoyed being with her grandchildren, knitting, needle point, doing crossword puzzles and crypto quote.

She was the oldest  of 12 children and after the death of their mother, she raised her youngest sister Diane until she went to college. Regina loved to read and when she was younger, she loved to dance and roller skate. Regina enjoyed to travel, to New York City to see shows , and with her Senior Citizens  group.

Regina was predeceased by her parents and her husband Robert, her daughter Dorothy Janet Kill in 1988, her sister Dorothy Mosher and her brothers Toby, Ernie, John and Jimmy Skellie.

Regina is survived by her five children, Robert Louis Kill, Jr. and his wife, Willene of Oregon, Tony Leonard Kill of New Mexico, Kevin Michael Kill and his wife, Rebecca of Hudson Falls, Jeffrey Scott Kill and his wife, Mary-Kay of Kingsbury and Bridgette Mary Kill of Hudson Falls; her siblings, William Skellie and his wife, Linda of Glens Falls, Stephen SKellie and his wife, Joan of Florida, Joseph Skellie and his wife, Lynn of South Carolina, Christine Murray of Hudson Falls, Michael Skellie and his wife, Margaret of North Carolina, Diane Skellie and her significant other, Tony of West Virginia; thirteen beloved  grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was very close with her niece Cindy Lynn Mosher-Warner and her husband John of Clifton Park.

Friends and family may call on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Carleton Funeral home.

At Regina’s request, a private graveside service will be held at West Glens Falls Cemetery.

Guy R. LaFlamme

LaFlamme, GuyHUDSON FALLS – Guy R. LaFlamme, 89, a longtime Hudson Falls resident, went into the arms of the Lord, with his loving daughter at his side, on Friday, September 15, 2017.

Born on July 11, 1928, in Manchester, Vermont, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Edna (Emerson) LaFlamme.

Guy proudly served his country in the United States Army.

He was a proud employee of Finch Pruyn Paper Co, retiring in 1987.

Guy enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, bowling and golfing, he also enjoyed watching sports on tv, especially the Red Sox.  He loved animals.  Once a year Guy attended his beloved Dartmouth Football in Hanover, NH.  Guy was a member of the American Legion Post 574 of Hudson Falls and the Glens Falls VFW.

Guy’s family was his world, his love for them was evident every day.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Ann LaFlamme and two brothers, James LaFlamme and Walter “Ray” LaFlamme.

He is survived by his daughter, Arlene Archambault and her husband, Mike of Hudson Falls; his granddaughter, Alison Winter and her husband, Bill of Fort Edward; his beloved great grandson, William Michael Winter; his “adopted” son, Steve Rockefeller; his loving companion of 30 years, Catherine Moffitt of Lake George; several nieces and nephews, including Cindy Nardella and Ray LaFlamme, who were very special to him; and a special friend Andrew “Piker” Leombruno.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls.

Guy’s family extends special thanks to the caring neighbors of Quarry Crossing, especially Andy and Ro Leombruno. Lena FrenchQUEENSBURY- Lena M. French, 91, of Queensbury passed away on September 17, 2017 at the Stanton.

Born July 21, 1926 in Schroon Lake, New York, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Violet (Vanderwarker) Gochie, Sr.

Lena was a graduate of Schroon Lake Central High School and attended Crane School of Music in Potsdam.

On October 8, 1949, in Schroon Lake, she married Milton B. French, whom passed away after 56 years of marriage.

Lena retired from Glens Falls Hospital. She also worked for Warren County Election Board, and was a communicant of St. Alphonsus Church in Glens Falls for many years singing in the choir. She enjoyed reading, playing bingo and taking a chance at the lottery. Her family was the center of her life. Lena also enjoyed traveling to Florida with her husband.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lena was predeceased by her daughters Kathryn E. Demarsh, Susan Mallory, her son-in-law Alan “Chick” Mallory, and her brother Fred Gochie, Jr.

She is survived by her four children Cheryl Seymour of Hudson Falls, Mark French and his wife, Shirley of Queensbury, John French and his wife, Karen of South Glens Falls and Pamela Middleton and her husband, Michael of Queensbury; her fourteen grandchildren, Dennis Darling and his wife, Danielle, Johnna Demarsh, Jeff French and his wife, Mary, Barbara Seymour, Alan Mallory Jr., and his wife, Trina, Timothy Mallory and his wife, Michele, Jessica Grasso and her husband, Michael, Mark French, Jr. and his wife, Melissa, Holly Rolleston, John French Jr. and his wife, Rachel, Amber LeFever and her husband, Aaron, Justin French and his wife, Martha, Michael Middleton and his wife, Sue, Jennifer Shippee and her husband, Chad; 26 great grandchildren, with one on the way, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 22, 2017 at the funeral home.

The burial will follow the Funeral Services at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Stanton and her roommate Connie Buckley for their friendship and encouragement.

James B. Clear

Clear, JamesQUEENSBURY – James B. Clear, 60, of Algonquin Drive, went into the arms of the Lord, on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Born on February 13, 1957, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late James and Katherine Clear.

James was a 1975 graduate of Hudson Falls High School.  Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he proudly served his country.

On March 9, 1985, he married Jill Weir, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.

James worked as a Paper Technical Specialist for Chemtreat, based in Glen Allen, Virginia.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.

James enjoyed boating anywhere he could bring his fishing pole and camping with his family. He was active in youth baseball and the travel league with his son, Todd.  Most of all, James loved his family, they were the center of his life.

He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Jill Clear of Queensbury, his two children, Katie Davies and her husband, Tom of Ballston Lake and Todd Clear of Queensbury; he was a proud grandfather of Sean James Davies; his siblings, Vivian and Larry LaRose, Paulette and Henry Pelkey, Marianne Rourke, Patrick and Rose Clear and Joseph and Lisa Clear; his special uncle, Joseph Corsall; his three lifelong friends, Mike and Arlene Archambault and Paul Van Arsdal.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 18, 2017 at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Rice, ThomasMYRTLE BEACH, SC; SMITHTOWN, NY; OAKDALE, NY – Thomas “Tom” L. Rice, 86, of Myrtle Beach and Long Island, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2017

Born in Hudson Falls on March 01, 1931, he was the son of Harry E. and Pearl (Wells) Rice.

Prior to graduating from Hudson Falls High School in 1948, Tom played trombone in the school band, under the direction of Maurice Whitney, and sang in the school choir, under the direction of Walter Ninesling.  A longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson Falls, Tom received private voice lessons due to the generosity of his Sunday School teacher, J. Walter Juckett.  Inspired and encouraged by these mentors, Tom majored in Trombone and minored in Vocal Performance at the Crane School of Music in Potsdam, earning his Bachelor’s degree in 1952.  He continued his education, earning his Master’s degree in Music from Columbia University in New York City.

Tom very proudly served in the US Navy from 1952 to 1954.  While stationed in Bainbridge, MD, he directed the recruit band, until his subsequent deployment to a destroyer in the Mediterranean Sea.  After his discharge, Tom returned to music, teaching in both North Syracuse and Schenectady before moving to Long Island.  He retired in 1985 from many dedicated years in the Music Department of the Sayville School System.  After retirement, he remained a highly sought-after, private piano instructor to dozens of Long Island students.

Blessed with a beautiful bass-baritone voice, Tom performed throughout his life.  He shared his gift with numerous choral societies, opera companies, churches and synagogues around Long Island, most notably as a featured soloist with the Babylon Chorale and the Old Bethpage Restoration Singers for more than forty years.  He was also an accomplished composer of choral music and a member of ASCAP – the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.

Tom is survived by his devoted wife, Maggie (Reilly) Rice of Myrtle Beach, daughter Sharlene (Rice) Wegner and her husband George, son Steven Rice, daughter Sharlet Rice, grandchildren Kevin and Kelli, his sister Jane (Rice) Story of Hudson Falls, his brother Edward Rice and wife Mary Beth of New Hartford, NY, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00AM on Saturday, September 16 at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church, 257 Middle Road, Sayville, NY.

Gratton, JuneQUEENSBURY & FORT EDWARD – June E. (LaPoint) Gratton, 93, formerly of Dix Avenue and more recently of The Oaks in Fort Edward, peacefully passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017 at the Pines in Glens Falls.

Born on March 11, 1924, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Arthur J. and Eleanor (Usher) LaPoint.

June attended Ridge Street Elementary School and graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1942.

On Sept. 16, 1944, she married Richard E. Gratton in St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls.  He passed away on October 27, 2004, after 60 wonderful years of marriage.

June worked at the Glens Falls Insurance Company as a young woman and later in her life, enjoyed shopping, especially on QVC.  She loved spending time with her family and friends.  June always considered her longtime friend, Lois Phelps and her children, Dick, Bob, Connie, Carolyn, Tommy and Brian, and their spouses, as family.

Survivors include her son, James R. Gratton and his wife, Gina, of West Chazy; two granddaughters, Whitney Gratton and her husband, Brian Monroe of Bethesda, MD and Meredith Gratton of Plattsburgh; her brother, Richard A. LaPoint of Chicago, IL; her two nieces, Susanne Kesselring and her husband, Ron and Lisa LaPoint; and her nephew, David LaPoint.

Friends may call on Saturday, September 16th , her wedding anniversary, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral Services will follow the calling hour at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will follow at Pine View Cemetery in the town of Queensbury, where June will be laid to rest next to her husband.
