Phyllis G. Risser

HUDSON FALLS – Phyllis G. Risser, 84, of Hudson Falls, went into the arms of the Lord, on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at her home, surrounded by  her loved ones.

Born on October 13, 1935 in Buena Vista, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Clinton and Edna (Ramsey) Ogden.

Phyllis graduated from high school in Virginia and soon after, began her journey into motherhood.   She was the proud mother of three wonderful children. 

Later in life, Phyllis married her current husband, Robert Risser.   They lived together in Indiana, until her husband was transferred to this area.  .

She loved taking care of her family.  After her daughter, Jennifer passed away, Phyllis stepped in and raised her grandchildren.  She was their biggest fan at all their sporting events, never once missing a game.   They were so blessed to have this wonderful lady giving them love, support and guidance when they needed it the most. 

Phyllis loved watching sports, whether the game was on tv or she was sitting on the bench.  She spent many hours following her favorite baseball team, New York Yankees, who in her opinion had the best player, Derek Jeter on its lineup.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her two daughters, Pamela Lawhorn and Jennifer Drake, and her grandson, Devin Bradley Drake.

Survivors include her loving husband, Robert Risser of Hudson Falls; her son, Jeffrey (Missy) Staton; her grandchildren, Cassandra (Mark Stockwell) Drake, Dakota Drake, Craig (Brooke) Lawhorn and Shane Lawhorn; her two sisters, Joan Burch and Andi (Stephan) Moore; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Services for Phyllis will be held at a later date in Virginia.

Art D. Jabot

HARTFORD – Art D. Jabot, 69, of Hartford passed away on June 10, 2020 at the Glens Falls Hospital, after a courageous battle with Cancer.

Born on February 23, 1951, in Granville, he was the son of the late Donald and Ilene (Roberts) Jabot.  As a baby, Art was adopted and became a member of the Jabot family.  In his later years, he was fortunate in finding and becoming close with his birth family.  Art was lucky for being loved by both his adopted family and is birth family.

Following his graduation from Hudson Falls High School, Art enlisted in the US Army as a Medic, caring for wounded soldiers arriving from Viet Nam.   After his active duty, he served in the National Guard for 15 years.  While serving in the Guard, he was deployed at Comstock Prison during an uprising and also at the 1980 Olympics.

On February 3, 1973, Art married the love of his life and best friend, Debbie Caprood at Faith Bible Baptist Church in Hudson Falls.

Art worked at Northern Homes, where he loaded trucks.  He also was employed as a custodian at Hartford Central School and at BOCES, where he became senior custodian.  After working hard for many years, Art retired at the age of 65.

He loved history, especially during the Civil War era.  Art participated in several Civil War reenactments and encampments.  He even had the wonderful opportunity to encamp at the sacred Gettysburg battlefield in PA.

Art loved and cherished his family.  They were the center of his world.  He always sacrificed his own needs and wants to make sure his family was taken care of, never regretting a moment.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Kevin Shaw and Arvin Jabot.

Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Debbie Jabot of Hartford; his three sons, Steven (Missy) Jabot, Brian Jabot and AJ Jabot and his significant other, Joelle; five grandchildren, Caitlyn, Caden, Austen, William and Daisy Jabot; his siblings, Linda, Raymond, Lillian, Tina, Mike, Robin and Cindy; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Due to the most recent change in COVID 19 regulations, now, 35 people are allowed in the chapel at one time for calling hours on Monday from 3 to 5 P.M. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Graveside Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Morningside Cemetery in Hartford.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the CR Wood Cancer Center, 102 Park Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801.

Elma L. Simione

QUEENSBURY – Elma L. Simione, 84, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on June 5, 2020. 

Born May 26, 1936 in Elizabethtown, she was the daughter of the late William DaHa and Florence Ellsworth (Boots).

Elma retired from Glens Falls Hospital where she worked as a nurses aide for many years.  She enjoyed gardening and taking care of her flowers. She will be greatly missed.

Besides her parents, Elma was predeceased by her husband Dominic Simione; her sisters, Helen Sutliff, Evelyn Sherman, Betty Ashe, Inez Mattison, Marion Ives, Laura Sprague, and her brother Bill DaHa.

Survivors include her sister, Kathy Orr of Mineville; her brothers, Jim Sprague of North Hudson and Junior Sprague of Port Henry; her daughters, Debbie Rooks of Hadley, Wanda Savage of Glens Falls, Sonya Burke of Nassau; her sons, Paul Simione of Queensbury, Frank Simione of Queensbury, Danny Beagle, who was like a son to her and close to her heart and her stepchildren, Chris Simone, Dominic (Butch), Patty, Annie, Cecelia, Rosemary, Anne Marie, Jim, Christina,  Sandy, Cathy Bennett, Terry Beagle, Harold Beagle and Billy Beagle.   She is also survived by her grandchildren, Charlemagne Mapes, Megan Savage, David Rooks, Matt Burke, Paul Burke, Tracey Burke, Carmela Simione, Austin Simione, and several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Rowena Alice (Rich) Robbins


HUDSON FALLS — Rowena Alice (Rich) Robbins, lovingly known as “Bump”, passed away on Thursday, June 4th, 2020. She was surrounded by family at home as she lost her courageous battle with cancer.

Rowena was born on July 16th,1943. She was raised and lived most of her life on Farley Rd. After attending Hudson Falls High School, she married the love of her life, Ernest Robbins Jr, on September 1st, 1962. Together they had three children before his passing in 1989.

Throughout her life she worked for US Catheter (currently known as CR Bard), Quality Hardware and she made beautiful Wedding Cakes. Rowena was known for her creativity, willingness to help others, and love of travel. During her life she traveled throughout the entire East Coast and most of the mid-Western United States. She enjoyed watching the birds outside her back window as she drank her morning coffee and loved seeing the cardinals. She truly enjoyed baking, decorating or working on her latest sewing or craft project; and passed on these crafting skills to her grandchildren. She loved to give homemade gifts when possible and put thought into everything she gave. She leaves behind a strong legacy; knowing how to have fun and be a little mischievous, that both her family and friends will always remember.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by her sister, Doris Faith Rich, and her brother, Ronald Rich.

Survivors include her three daughters, N. Jean (Buddy) Blackmer of Hudson Falls, Wendy (Wayne Hurd) Fuller of Queensbury, and Jessica (Francis Hamblin) Clark of Queensbury; eight grandchildren, Erica (Kimar) Perry of Fort Edward, Chris Blackmer of Fort Ann, Kayla Smith of Elizabethtown, K.Y., Dan Blackmer of Poultney, V.T., Jacey Blackmer of Fort Ann, Tristan Hurd, Ayden Clark, and Ryann Clark all of Queensbury; as well as three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Merwyn (Maryann) Rich of West Sand Lake, NY; sister, Naomi Belrose of Queensbury; mother-in-law, Rena Robbins of Hudson Falls and brother-in-law, Edwin Robbins; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

The family takes comfort in knowing that after so many years apart from Ernie, Rowena has finally been reunited with the love of her life.

The family would like to thank the visiting nurses from Fort Hudson for taking such good care of her.

Due to COVID-19 there will be no viewing hours. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at 10:00am at the Moss Street Cemetery in Hudson Falls, N.Y

Larry E. Lambert

MOREAU – Larry E. Lambert, 83, of Moreau, passed away on June 6, 2020. 

Born July 26, 1936 in Champlain, he was the son of the late George and Lucille (Deyette) Lambert.

On September 7, 1980, Larry married Joan Nail at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Utica. 

For a time, Larry was employed by Dell Music in Utica, where he provided guitar lessons for customers of the store.  He also did this for Hilton Music in Albany.  Larry played at the Grand Ole Opry for Dottie West, a country music singer and songwriter.

Larry was a well-known entertainer who started out in his fathers’ band, The Rambling Rangers, at a young age on the radio station, WWSC.  Larry was a steel guitar player and a lead guitar player He played weddings and parties with many local musicians under the name of New Country Band with Jack Dixon, Wayne Nichols, his daughter, Karry, and Patti Dixon and Johnny Blackmer.  Larry also had a fan club called New Country Fan Club, who played once a month for the VFW in West Glens Falls, for the public.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Patti Dixon, whom he loved dearly.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Joan Lambert, whom he loved dearly; his three children, Karry Martindale her husband, Kevin of Whitehall, Sherry Annutto and her husband, Dan of Ilion and Debbie Lucenti and her husband, Frank of Rome; his grandchildren, Logan Clark, Riley Clark, Kaylin Martindale, Frank Lucenti, Alan Annutto, Conlin Sterusky, Alyse Sterusky and Rachael Lyon; his brother in law, Jack Dixon, who was like a brother to him; his nieces, Christine Collins and Candi Dixon; his nephews, Brian Dixon and his wife, Rosemary and John Dixon, Jr., and his wife, Rita; his great nephews Kyle Dixon and John Dixon; as well as many dear and close friends.

Larry’s family wishes to thank the staff at Glens Falls Hospital and anyone else who may have helped him along the way.  Also thank you to friends and long-time family members, Gail and Scott Whittemore who has been by their side for 40 years.

Mary Jane (Toole) Burns

GLENS FALLS – Mary Jane (Toole) Burns, 66, of Glens Falls, passed away unexpectedly on June 2, 2020.

Born September 11, 1953 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late John B. and Joan C. Toole.

On May 4, 1981, she married Robert Burns in Hudson Falls.

Mary Jane worked as an office manager for the dental office of Dr. Richard Garrett Sr., DDS and Dr. Richard Garrett, Jr., DDS.

She loved going to the family summer residence in Long Lake, where she spent wonderful moments with her grandchildren.  Mary Jane just loved life and going to parties with her family and friends.   She honored her heritage by cherishing her Irish roots.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her mother in law, Mary A. Burns and her brother, John A. Toole.

Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Robert Burns of Glens Falls; her children, Adam C. Burns and his wife, Casey of Queensbury and Joshua D. Burns of Glens Falls; her loving grandchildren, Oliver Burns, Madeline Burns and Micah Burns; her father in law, Bazil S. Burns, Sr. of Queensbury; her brother, James J. Toole and his wife, Nancy of Glens Falls; her sister, Joanne Palmer and her husband, Scott of Hudson Falls; her sister in law, Maria C. Toole of South Glens Falls and Margaret Burns Callahan and her husband, Tom Neforas of New Hampshire; her brother in law, Bazil S. Burns, Jr and his companion, Kim Finocchio of Glens Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Laurentia (Tia) Leburn Marino

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – March 12, 1930 – June 2, 2020   Laurentia (Tia) Leburn Marino, 90, of South Glens Falls, NY died of natural causes on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 while a resident of Brunswick Health & Rehab in Ash, NC.  Tia was at peace and surrounded by family. 

Tia was born March 12, 1930 in Glens Falls, NY to the late Fridolin Lebrun and Marie Beatrice Lemery Lebrun Reeves.  Tia was retired from Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals as a medical machine operator. In her younger days, Tia loved to bowl, knit, crochet and cook.  With her late husband, Tony, she was also a member of Glens Falls Elks Lodge #81. Tia was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in South Glens Falls prior to her move to the Carolinas.

Tia was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Anthony (Tony) Marino, Sr., her parents, brother, Joseph Roland and sister, Bernadette Lebrun, and grandson, Douglas Marino.

Tia is survived by her brother, John Paul Lebrun: children, Tonie (formerly Anthony Jr.) (Susan), Donna Marino Murray (Michael) and Deborah Marino Ermis (Daniel); grandchildren, Melissa Murray Nixon (Michael), Shawn A. Murray Love (John Roberts), Christopher Ermis (Elizabeth), Jennifer Ermis Hamm (Paul Michael), Sharon and Lily Marino.  Loved and known as TT by her great-grandchildren, Tia loved the smiles and antics of Kasey Love, Abby and Evan Nixon, Lexi and Nati Roberts, Daniel, Eva, Catherine and Benjamin Ermis; Grace and Gabe Crawford and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Monday, June 8 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.   Because of the Covid-19 restrictions, only ten people will be invited into the funeral home at one time.

A graveside service will follow the calling hour on Monday at St. Mary’s Cemetery in South Glens Falls, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.

Christopher D. Floutin

FORT EDWARD – Christopher D. Floutin, 54, passed away at home with his loving family by is side on Monday, June 1, 2020.

Born on March 25, 1966, in Hudson, NY, he was the son of Helen (Bleau) Floutin and the late Ralph Sanford.

Christopher attended Chatham High School.

For several years, he worked as a painter for North Country Painting in Queensbury.

Christopher loved the outdoors.  He enjoyed spending time camping, fishing and spending time in nature.  Christopher was also an avid sports fan, especially the 49ers, the Yankees and watching Jeff Gordon.  He also enjoyed sitting down and listening to country music.  

Most of all, his family was really important to him.

In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his stepfather, Jack Springer, Sr., his maternal grandparents, Midor D. Bleau and Grace I. (Decker) Bleau and several aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his mother, Helen E. (Bleau) Floutin of Fort Edward; his sister, Melinda Floutin of South Glens Falls; his brothers, Ralph (Kim) Floutin of Texas and Gary Floutin of Florida; his children, Cameron, Billy, Ashley and Nicole; seven  grandchildren; his aunts and uncles marge, Bobby, Elva and Jimmy; his girlfriend, Melissa (Mochrie) McIntosh; and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Vivian Mullen Seeley

GLENS FALLS – Vivian Mullen Seeley, 98, formerly of Stitchman Towers, passed away on Monday June 1, 2020, at the Glens Falls Center.

Born on February 28, 1922 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late David and Ethel (Davis) Mullen.

She attended Hudson Falls High School.

In 1939, she married Ward Seeley. They were married 41 years, before he died in 1980.

Vivian worked for 18 years at D’Amico’s Restaurant, formerly located in Hudson Falls.  She the worked for 10 years at Sears Roebuck in Queensbury and later as a receptionist for the American Red Cross in Glens Falls.

The Seeley’s were longtime Hudson Falls residents.

She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls.

Her enjoyments included golf and bowling.

Vivian was a people person.  She always took care of family and was always there with a helping hand for anyone in need.

In addition to her husband and parents, Vivian is predeceased by a daughter, Elizabeth A. Fletcher, a son, Ward Seeley, Jr., a brother David Mullen and three sisters, Rita Infield, Margaret Shields and Betty Trackey.

Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Dean and her husband, Alvin of Queensbury and Susan Larkins-Gardner and her husband, David of Schenectady; one son, Robert Seeley and his wife, Dee of Cambridge; 25 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Because of the Covid-19 restrictions, services will be private at Moss Street Cemetery.

Thelma Fitzgerald Cook

FORT EDWARD – Thelma Fitzgerald Cook 99, just one week short of 100 years old, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at the Fort Hudson Health Care Facility in Fort Edward.

Born on June 8, 1920 in Schuylerville, she was the daughter of the late James and Lillian (French) Fitzgerald.

On September 9th, 1939, she married Robert Cook at Notre Dame de Lourdes in Schuylerville. They were married 55 wonderful years before he passed away in 1995.

Thelma was devoted to her work. She loved her job at General Electric in Fort Edward, retiring at the age of 62.

Thelma was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Fort Edward. She also enjoyed traveling, skiing (water and snow) and spending time with family at her summer home on Hadlock Pond.

Along with her parents and husband, Thelma was predeceased by her brothers, Wickham, Beryl and Kenneth Fitzgerald; and grandson Donald Curtis Jr.

Survivors include her two daughters, JoAnn Curtis and her husband, Donald of Fort Edward and Patricia Boulet and her husband, George of Schenectady; her grandchildren, Thomas Boulet and his wife, Beth of Colorado Springs, CO., Michelle Marchese and her husband, Wayne of Frisco, TX, Christine Roos and her husband Robert of Clifton Park; several great grandchildren and a special nephew Walter Fitzgerald.

Funeral Services at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., will be private, because of the Covid-19 restrictions.

She will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Fort Edward on June 8th, her 100th birthday.

Brinda Rich Ovitt

HUDSON FALLS – Brinda Rich Ovitt, 67, of Hudson Falls, passed away at home on May 31, 2020.

She was born April 2, 1953, the daughter of the late Howard and Sylvia (Waterman) Rich. Brinda was also a beloved daughter from a young age to the late Robert and Mildred McAuley of Hudson Falls.

Brinda graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1972.  On June 30, 1973, she married Milford W. Ovitt at the First Baptist Church in Hudson Falls.  Their son Jami brought so much love and happiness.  Her lifetime career as a cook and baker brought her much enjoyment through the years.  She retired in May 2015 from the Glen at Highland Meadows in Queensbury.  Family, friends Co-workers and nursing home residents enjoyed her many cooking and baking talents.

Brinda enjoyed weekly card games with friends crocheting and daily phone calls from friends and family.  These gave her much comfort as she dealt courageously with chronic illness.

Brinda was always kind and caring to everyone.  She will be missed every day by so many people who dearly loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Jami M. Ovitt, her sisters, Carol Rich and Debbie Rich and her brothers, Howard Rich, Jr., Michael Rich, Robert McAuley, Jr. and Thomas McAuley, Sr.

Survivors include her husband, Milford Ovitt, her grandson, Cody M. Ovitt (Troi); her siblings, Clayton Rich, Timothy Rich, James Rich, Sandra Rich-Kist, Penny Rich, Joyce Huntley, John McAuley (Florence) and Barbara Trombley; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family.

T. Joyce Cormie

LAKE GEORGE – T. Joyce Cormie, 86, of Ledgeview Drive, and formerly of Moss Street in Kingsbury, passed away peacefully after a brief illness, with her family by her side on Friday, May 29, 2020, at Glens Falls Hospital, in Glens Falls.

Born on October 28, 1933 in Springfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Claudine (Webb) Rose.

Joyce was a graduate of the Commerce High School in Springfield, MA. While living in Springfield, she met her first husband, Donald R. Fairbanks.  They were married on July 16, 1953 and shared 33 wonderful years of marriage, until he passed away on December 27, 1985. Years later, a friend introduced Joyce to her second husband, Joseph Cormie.  They were married on October 12, 1988.  He passed away on May 7, 2018, after 29 years of marriage.

Joyce loved spending time with her husbands, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joyce enjoyed knitting and crocheting- gifting many of her creations. She tended to her extensive flower and vegetable gardens, spending many years canning her own vegetables, and passing this knowledge down along with great cooking skills. Going to garage sales with her was always an adventure. She was always generous with her time to people in need.

Besides her parents and husbands, Joyce was predeceased by her siblings John Albert Rose, Kenneth Rose, Thomas Rose, George Rose and Claudia Winkel.

Survivors include her children, Kathleen Hilpertshauser and her husband, Glenn of Hudson Falls, Beth Lynn Mabie and her husband, E. David of Chestertown, Amy Jean Harrington and her husband, Jeffery of Plattsburgh, Stephen R. Fairbanks and his wife, Sharon of Hudson Falls and Jack O. Fairbanks and his wife, Sheri of North Carolina; her step children, Larry Cormie, Joseph Cormie, Scott Cormie, Matthew Cormie and Karen Cormie; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; her brother John Rose and his wife, Camille of Georgia, many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friend Joan.

While her title to us was Mom and Nonnie, she was so much more. She was a passionate role model to her children and grandchildren. She infused her life with love, laughter, wisdom and strength. These qualities we hold close, to help us move forward and pass her strength to our own families.

Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, graveside services at Pine View Cemetery in Queensbury will be private.

John Gordon Reynolds

QUEENSBURY – John Gordon Reynolds, 79, of Queensbury and formerly of Fort Ann, passed away peacefully, after a six and a half year battle with lung cancer, on Saturday, May 30, 2020.

Born on August 16, 1940 in Glens Falls Hospital, he was the fifth of eleven children of the late Shirley (Sherwin) Reynolds and Harold  E. Reynolds, Sr.

John proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany and assigned to the military police.

On February 10, 1963, he married Jeannette Leahy and they remained together until Jeannette’s passing on November 2, 2011.   After Jeannette’s passing, John and his son, Rick would ride to Hartford every Sunday to tend to their plot or in the winter, just to say “Hello”.

From 1963 to 1976, John drove truck for J.E. Sawyer’s in Glens Falls.  In 1976, he became a New York State Correction’s Officer, until he retired in 2001, after 25 years of service. 

John loved following Fort Ann School Sports.   He would travel to as many games as possible.  In his later years, he could be found almost every morning at the Dix Ave. Dunkin Donuts with his good friend, Bobby Wilkins, where they and a small group of friends would be solving the world’s problems.

In addition to his wife and parents, John was predeceased by his siblings, Jean (Alpha “Whitey”) White, Harold “Junior” Reynolds, Raymond Reynolds, Larry Reynolds, Janet Stockman, Joan (Don) Nassivera, Joyce (Don) Daut, Jim Reynolds and Jerry Reynolds, his brother in law, Tom Gentile and his sisters in law, Wendy Wright and Terri Itzo.

He is survived by his son and daughter in law, Rick and Missy Reynolds; a granddaughter and her husband, Elizabeth and Jarred Russell and their children, “The Apples of His Eyes”, Kendall and Chase (even through his sickness, they could bring a smile to his face by simply saying, “Hi Poppy”; a very special niece and her husband, Laurie and Mike Dunbar and their children, Cody and Brianna Dunbar, whom he thought of as his own grandchildren and they referred to him as “Pop”.  Also he is survived by his step mother, Mary Reynolds; his siblings, Juanita Gentile, Dan (Jeannie) Reynolds, Darlene (Ken) Beecher and Doug (Sarah) Reynolds; his brother in law, Jerry Stockman, Sr; sisters in law, Jane, Erma, Barbara and Marlaine Reynolds; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend, since childhood, Hollis Paige.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Stoutenberg, who John respected and trusted greatly and his entire staff, the staffs of the Cancer Treatment Center, Tower 2, Homeward Bound at HHHN, Warren County Health Services and High Peaks Hospice.

Due to the on-going pandemic, private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
