QUEENSBURY – Leroy J. Cottrell, Jr., 84, a longtime resident of Hudson Falls, most recently of Queensbury, went into the arms of the Lord, Monday, August 8, 2022, at Albany Medical Center with his loving family by his side.

Born August 16, 1937, in Burlington, VT, he was the son of the late Leroy J. And Edna (Diamond) Cottrell, Sr.

To close family and friends, he was lovingly known as Sonny.  Upon graduation from the Hudson falls Central High School, he enlisted in the United States Army and was proud to serve his country which included a one-year hardship tour of duty in Iceland.  Sonny gave selflessly of himself and dedicated his life to service his country, his community, and his family.  His many years of service included volunteering for the Fort Edward Rescue Squad, being a paid firefighter for the Hudson Falls Fire Department, an Arson Investigator for Washington County, and a Deputy Sheriff for Washington County.

Sonny married the love of his life, Sue, on July 16, 1960 at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson Falls.  Together, they raised their children, Scott, Laurie and Kelly.  In his retirement years, Sonny enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and making cherished memories.  He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, and traveling, including going to Myrtle Beach, SC every year for 20 years and a cross country road trip with his wife, Sue.

In addition to his parents, Sonny was predeceased by his sister, Carolyn Parsons and his brother, Willard “Red” Cottrell.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 62 years, Susan J. (Trombley) Cottrell of Queensbury; his children, Scott Cottrell of Queensbury, Laurie Cottrell of Queensbury,  and Kelly Risner and her husband, Keith of Myrtle Beach, SC; his ten grandchildren, Austin, Jessica, Scott, Jr., Joshua, Nicholas and Jasmine Cottrell, Matthew and Mikayla Orsini and Jacob and Alyssa Risner; 10 great grandchildren; his siblings, Michael Cottrell of Crystal River, FL, Elizabeth Burke of Nampa, ID, Kenneth Cottrell of Glens Falls; his sisters in law, Linda Dashnaw and her husband, Alfred of South Glens Falls and Anna Cottrell of Queensbury; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call Thursday, August 11, 2022, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., in Hudson Falls.

A funeral service will be conducted at 5:30 p.m., following the calling hours, at the funeral home.

A graveside service will be held 9:30 a.m., Friday, August 12, 2022, at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, with full military honors.

Following the service, a celebration of Sonny’s life will be held at the Benevolent Protection of Elk’s Lodge #81, Cronin Rd., in Queensbury from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

HUDSON FALLS – Tylor Ryan Michaud, 31 of Hudson Falls found peace on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, after a 15 year battle with drug addiction.  

From a very young age it was apparent that Tylor never met a ball that he didn’t like.  He could throw, catch or hit just about anything and was passionate about sports throughout his life.  He played on numerous soccer, baseball and basketball teams, until his graduation from Hudson Falls High School in 2009.  As an adult, his athleticism took the form of hiking, working out and/or biking on a daily basis.  He was always in shape and ready for his next adventure as he liked to put it.

Tylor’s struggle with addiction began in his late teens in the form of opioids and quickly progressed to heroin by his early twenties.  Throughout the battle he never gave up, continuing to remain optimistic hoping to set himself free from the ongoing cycle.  He tried his best to stay clean, attended meetings and willingly entered rehab centers across the country.  Although his addiction robbed him from reaching his true potential, his incredible smile, kindness and loving heart, always remained.  He had friends and family that loved him and he loved them, spending time with them when he could. He was so much more than just a statistic and will be sadly missed by those who knew him.   Our hope is that he has found the peace that so desperately eluded him on Earth. 

He was predeceased by his grandparents, Robert and Beverly Gleason and Sondra Michaud all of Hudson Falls, his uncles, Cesar Sanchez and Timothy Breene and his cousin, Austin Lutz.

Tylor will be forever missed by his loving and supportive parents, Paul and Linda (Gleason) Michaud of Hudson Falls, and their dog, Bentley; his grandfather, Joseph Michaud; his grandmother, Tekla Michaud, along with several aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends. 

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Paul Filion, Sonya and staff at Irongate Center along with all the people at the Baywood Center, for their ongoing support.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, on the park in Hudson Falls at 11:00 am.   All are welcomed and casual dress is preferred.

GLENS FALLS – Rose M. Carella, 102, of Glens Falls Center, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2022, due to complications of COVID.

Born on May 10, 1920, in Norwich, CT, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Josephine (Guglielmo) Carella.

Rose was married to Gordon E. Smith, Sr., who died in 1981.  Her second marriage was to Raymond Marallo, who passed away in 2009.

Rose worked in several area mills.   She also was a sales lady in many fine women’s retail stores in the Glens Falls area.   People would remember her as a waitress at the former Red Fez in Queensbury or the Howard Johnson’s in South Glens Falls.    For several years, Rose was employed at Patrician Paper Company, later known as Encore Paper Company in South Glens Falls.  After eight years at Scott Paper Company in Fort Edward, Rose retired in 1986.

She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls and also a member of the Glens Falls Senior Citizens.   Rose loved to shop, play golf at area golf courses and travel on bus trips with senior citizen groups.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, John Carella and Frank Carella and her sisters, Carmella Sanders and Adeline Leone.

Survivors include her two sons, Ronald D. Smith and his wife, Ella of Kentucky and Gordon E. Smith, Jr., of Queensbury; her daughter, Michele Marallo of Glens Falls; several grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Graveside Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

HUDSON FALLS – Susan Helene DePalo, 76 of Hudson Falls, passed away Saturday morning, July 30, 2022 at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on January 30, 1946, in Glens Falls, Sue was the daughter of the late Patrick and Constance (Barney) DePalo and a lifelong area resident, graduating from Hudson Falls High School, class of 1963.  Always a hard worker, she continued her studies at Hudson Valley Community College receiving her Associates Degree in Recreational Therapy. 

Known for her big, loving heart, Sue was employed for many years at Wilton Developmental Center and was a champion to her clients protecting and advocating for them. Known as an outstanding female athlete at a time when female athletes were not taken seriously, Susan was instrumental in starting local women’s Softball Leagues in the 1960’s and 70’s.  She loved old cars and loved talking about old cars, joking that her wish was to be buried in a vintage Volkswagen Bug.  Other passions were refinishing furniture and just helping others that might need a hand in whatever way she could.  Friendly and talkative, Sue continually met new friends in her favorite restaurants, no one was a stranger to her.  Susan loved to be with others and met monthly with her graduating class as well as her former co-workers at Wilton Developmental Center.  

Sue is survived by her best friend, Kelly O’Neil, her sisters, Constance Steele, Mary Joan Baggot (Richard), Barbara Comstock (Keith) and Patricia DePalo; several nieces and nephews, whom she loved very much; special cousins, one being Scott Plummer. She was predeceased by her sister, Diane Dolan and her parents, Patrick and Constance DePalo.

A Celebration of Sue’s life will be held in Hudson Falls on Sunday August 21^st from 12 pm – 3 pm at 1 Mohican Terrace, food and drinks will be provided and all who knew Susan are encouraged to attend. 

ARGYLE – Barbara J. Fichtner, 73, of Argyle, passed away July 26, 2022, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born March 24, 1949, in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Leona (Noiles) Prosser.

Barbara enjoyed caring for her “fur babies”, she always had a dog companion throughout her life.  In recent years she enjoyed boating and fishing anywhere she could.  Barbara was the happiest outdoors, visiting various beaches and lakes. She made many treasured memories with her family, soaking up the sun and throwing a line.  Above all, Barbara held her faith close and was always there with the sound advice of “Give it to God.”

Survivors include her husband, Glenn Fichtner of Argyle, as well as many loving family members including her children, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Per Barbara’s request there will be no services.  A celebration will be held September 10^th 2022 at the home.

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Dorothy “Dot” “Peewee” Mae Wildey Brayman Tanner, 84, of South Glens Falls, passed away at home, surrounded by her loving family on Monday, August 1, 2022.

Born January 25, 1938, in Hudson Falls, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Evelyn (Holden) Wildey.

Dot attended Hudson Falls High School.

On September 8, 1957, she married her first husband, Stephen Brayman. He passed away September 18, 1978. On April 6, 1979, she married her second husband, Wayne H. Tanner who passed away on August 18, 2013. Throughout her life, Dot was a devoted housewife, taking care of her husband and nine children.

She was a member of the American Legion, Post 574, in Hudson Falls. She enjoyed attending Friday night bingo, where she socialized with her friends in the community.  Dot also enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing and cookouts while spending time with her family.  She was a big Elvis Presley fan, enjoying his music and great country music. Dot loved her animals and held a special place in her heart for Miss Kitty and Wayno.  She was always up for a trip with her friends and family to the casino, and never missed her favorite soap operas or the Price is Right.

Besides her parents and husbands, she was a predeceased by her daughter, Brenda Brayman, her son, Michael Brayman; two grandchildren, Crystal and Joseph Brayman; her sister, Marian Rourke; her brothers, Herbert “Sonny” Wildey, Jr. and Joseph Wildey; and her sons-in-law, James Smith and AJ Huntington, III.

Survivors include her children, Jim Brayman and his fiancée, Robin Renaud of Hudson Falls, Wanda Huntington of Fort Edward, Teresa (Burt) Kanaley of Hudson Falls, Stephen “Punkin“ Brayman, Jr. of  South Glens Falls, Nancy (Brian) Hunt of South Glens Falls, Rebecca  (Daniel Hoffert) Smith of Argyle and Stephanie (Shane Rose) Floutin of South Glens Falls; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; her siblings, Joan Ranson of Florida and Eileen Munger of Hudson Falls, and beloved by many others.

Friends may call Thursday, August 4, 2022, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., in Hudson Falls.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, August 5, 2022, at the Gansevoort Cemetery in Gansevoort.

All are welcome to a “bring a dish” reception on Sunday, August, 7 , 2022, at the Hudson Falls American Legion Post 572, 72 Pearl Street in Hudson Falls.

HUDSON FALLS – Louis W. Priest, 66, a longtime resident of Hudson Falls, most recently of Queensbury, passed away Friday, July 29, 2022, at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA, after a long illness.

Born August 13, 1955, he was the son of the late Louis Priest, Jr. and Louise (Case) Rizzo and stepson of the late Salvatore Rizzo.

Lou was a 1974 graduate of Granville High School.

Lou and his wife of 40 years, Theresa (Resa) met at Montgomery Ward.  After a failed attempt at fixing him up with a friend, Resa and Lou decided they were best together and together they stayed.

For many years Lou was a correctional officer at Great Meadow Correctional Facility in Comstock.  He was continually active in his community and worked as a softball umpire, volleyball referee, crossing guard, various security details and other jobs that were more like social events to Lou than jobs.  He would regularly be found gathering with his closest friends at a Stewarts or other venues solving world issues (or just laughing) over breakfast or just a cup of coffee.

Lou was a very endearing man.  He had a way of engaging with people that made an unforgettable impression and made you feel like you had made a friend for life.  Although his wife and kids dragged him on vacation a few times, what he loved most was grilling in his own back yard with his family, overlooking his impeccable lawn. His rule was, “shoes in the house, fine, but don’t you dare mess up my lawn.”

Survivors include his wife, Resa (Beaudette) Priest of Queensbury; his sons, Justin Priest (Carrie) of Hudson Falls, Jeremy Priest (Beth) of Hudson Falls; his grandchildren, Brooke and Brody Priest, Rylan Prehoda and Leighton Priest; his sister, Patricia Winchell (Jim) of California; his brother, Jeff Priest (Sandy) of Vermont; his “Cemetery-Run Cuzints”, Lori, Amy, Scott and Lisa; his step siblings, Tim, Laurie, Kevin and Wendy and their families and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Friday, August 5, 2022, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., in Hudson Falls.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m.  Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Fire Rock, 111 County Route 41, Hudson Falls, New York 12839.

FORT EDWARD – Michael “Mike” Manning, 76, of Fort Edward passed away suddenly, July 27, 2022, at Albany Medical Center, after suffering a massive stroke.

Per Mikes request, there will be no calling hours.

A graveside service will take place Friday, October 7, 2022, 2:30 P.M., at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, with full military honors.

ARGYLE – Rodney “Hot Rod” Hatch, 50, of Argyle, passed away unexpectedly on July 27, 2022.

Born on April 28, 1972, in Fort Myers, Florida, he was the son of the late Ronald and Barbara (Hammond) Hatch. Rodney grew up in Fort Myers and was a graduate of Estero High School.

Rodney worked for several years as a supervisor at Palletts, Inc. He was a hard worker and a generous man, helping his friends and relatives anytime they needed a hand.

On July 29, 2011, he married Billie Jo Greene on the Park in Hudson Falls.

In his younger years, Rodney was well known for being an amazing baseball player.  Rodney enjoyed the local car races and would attend with his friend, Scott Bennett, who raced in a car sponsored by Pallets, Inc.  He would be there to help in the pit crew, fixing the car whenever needed. Rodney also liked kayaking on Summit Lake and loved his many cats.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Sue Powell Daily; his brother, Shelby Powell; a step-granddaughter, Bailey Greene and his beloved cat, Sassy.

He is survived by his wife, Billie Jo Hatch; his siblings, Kelly Carter, Donna Louise Pevlor and Anita Powell; sisters-in-law, Dody Manney and her husband, Dave and Ronny Vangundy and her husband, Brian; a brother-in-law, Paul Greene; mother-in-law, Carolyn Greene; stepsons, Michael Greene and his wife, Ashley and Steven Sumner and his wife, Samantha; and his step grandchildren, Morgan Greene, Cheyenne and Easton Sumner; as well as his former spouse, Mary Hatch.

Services are private at the convenience of the family.

QUEENSBURY – Gifford Starr Harvey, 85, of Queensbury, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 26^th, 2022.

Born October 3, 1936, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Gifford K. Harvey and Elizabeth Burkin Holsaple.

Gif was a very successful independent Professional Engineer and held a master’s degree in metallurgical engineering from RPI. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Florida.

In 1955 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, completed Naval Aviation Training in Pensacola, FL and jet fighter training in Beeville, TX. Gif proudly served as an accomplished active-duty fighter pilot flying jets from land and sea, ultimately earning the rank of Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. He was part of the Air Wing Squadron VF 102 aboard the USS Forrestal.

Gif enjoyed flying so much, he enlisted as an active-duty Captain in the U.S. Air Force, and then served in the Air Force Reserve including deployment to Korea. He very much enjoyed sharing stories of his adventures as a pilot, particularly those shared with cousin, USN Commander Harold “Brub” Stickney.

An avid golfer, Gif was a member of the Glens Falls Country Club for over 30 years, where he made many close friends and enjoyed their companionship on the course and at “the 19th hole”.  An advocate of environmental conservation, Gif also enjoyed the outdoors and relished annual trips to hunting camp and fishing excursions with friends.

Besides his parents, Gifford was predeceased by his brother, James Montgomery (Monty) Harvey.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Sylvia (Sullivan) Harvey; his children, Mark G. Harvey, Laura E. (Harvey) Edgerly, Daniel S. Harvey, Rachel E. Harvey; as well as his four grandchildren and two great grandsons.  Gif was very proud of his family and their accomplishments.

Burial will take place Friday, July 29^th, 2022, 10:00 a.m., at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, with full military honors.

HUDSON FALLS – On arguably the nicest day of summer, we lost the inarguably nicest of people, Cheryl LaRocque. The daughter of WWII veteran Bill Kirian and his Fostoria, Ohio sweetheart, Lloma Jean, Cheryl was destined to share her gift of limitless love and utmost care with all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Those innumerable fortunate beings include;  her “kids” at The Prospect School where she worked for 16 years; her friends and neighbors who looked forward to her delicious baked goods or snuggly hand-made quilts; the numerous bees, birds, and chipmunks in her prolific gardens; her many extended family members, each of which she cared for so genuinely; her big brother Rafe who always had a doting sister and a bowl of Cheerios waiting; her wonderful parents that she loved, cared for and cherished most deeply.

But none were more fortunate and blessed than her beloved husband, Peter, of 53 years; their children Tami and Ryan; five grandchildren; Joseph, Grace, Kay, Jacob, and Tessa, 6.9 great-grandchildren, and one stolen cat.

She is truly missed by many, but most by her chief cookie-eaters; who know her as Honey, Mom, or Grandma.

HUDSON FALLS – Joyce Constantineau, 91, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 22, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

She was the daughter of the late Frank and Estella (Garrick) Wold.  Joyce was born in Granville, where she lived, until moving to Hudson Falls at the age of 17.

She married Raymond “Pete” Constantineau on November 21, 1948.  They built their home in Hudson Falls and raised their five children. He passed July 7, 2003.  They shared 55 wonderful years together before his passing.

Joyce was a homemaker and took pride in her home, inside and out, especially with her beautiful flower gardens.  She loved oil painting, knitting, playing cards, watching birds at her feeders, shopping and baking.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Raymond, her daughter-in-law, Deb Constantineau and an infant brother, Frank, Jr.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Len (Carol) Constantineau, Larry Constantineau, Susan (Paul) Sullivan, Jeff (Doreen) Constantineau and Sherri Constantineau; her sister, Wilma Dowen; and her sister-in-law, Mary Jane Beane.    Joyce loved her growing family that included her 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, with one more joining the family very soon.

At Joyce’s request, no wake or funeral will be held.  A private celebration of our mom’s life will be held at a later date.

FORT ANN – Kenneth Keith Locke, 54, passed away on July 16, 2022 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon, Tennessee.

Born on August 16, 1967 in Glens Falls, his was the son of Keith Locke and Christine (Fleming) Hurd.

Following graduation Fort Ann High School in 1985, Kenneth enlisted in the service.   He was a proud 14 year United States Air Force veteran, having seen duty as a peacekeeper in Bosnia.  During his service, Kenneth continued his education and received his Associates Degree in Business.

In 2008, he married Katherine Ishoy, who lives in Tennessee.

Kenneth had a knack for putting pictures and words together that could teach, just about anything.  He used this talent and made instructional videos for companies.  He also was proud to have written and produced an independent film in Reno, Nevada, called “Pyramid Highway”.

He loved camping with his family and throughout the years, enjoyed four wheeling in the sand, especially while living in Nevada.  Kenneth had a good voice and loved sharing his vocals by singing Karaoke.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine Locke, of TN; his children, Kaitlyn (Patrick) Banford of Nevada and Connor Locke and his significant other, Shelby of Nevada; his father, Keith (Susan) Locke of Granville; his mother, Christine Fleming-Hurd of Willsboro; his brothers, Kyle Locke of Granville and Travis (Samantha) Locke, also of Granville; his  sisters, Courtney (Henry) Abeel of Clifton Park and Theresa Hassinger of Colorado; his grandchildren, William and Timothy Banford; uncle, John Locke of Granville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 11 to 1 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will follow at the funeral home, on Thursday, at 1 p.m.

Burial will follow the funeral services at Morningside Cemetery in Hartford.
