SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Robert James Rouse, SFC,  55, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, May 12, 2023.

Born on September 27, 1967, at Glens Falls Hospital, he was the son of Earl and JoAnn Rouse of Fort Ann.

Robert was a 1986 graduate of Fort Ann High School. He was a member of many championship teams and a three-sport athlete playing soccer, basketball, and baseball.

Following a career with UPS, Robert enlisted in the New York Army National Guard. He was deployed to Kuwait, Syria, and Jordan from 2016 to 2017. He proudly served his country as a Transportation Specialist in the New York National Guard at the Watervliet Arsenal earning title as Sergeant First Class.           

Robert enjoyed snowmobiling, golfing anywhere he could and riding his motorcycle with his son, Nick.  He was an avid fan of NASCAR, New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Robert was always on the go, planning the next adventure and meal.  He also enjoyed R.V. camping, travelling to various locations, always having friends anywhere he went.

He loved his beloved cats, Pumpkin and Fluffy Mittens and his dogs, George and Max.  Most importantly, the center of his world were his children, Nick and Makenzie.  On April 22, 2023, he became a proud and doting grandfather to Weston Bradley.  He was a huge support for his daughter while cherishing the time he spent with his grandson, Weston.  Robert will always be remembered for his infectious smile that warmed the hearts of those who knew him.  

Robert was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Raymond and Eva Rouse; maternal grandparents, Harold and Josephine Nichols and his brother, Jeffrey Rouse.

Survivors include his children, Nicholas Robert Rouse and Makenzie Melissa Rouse (Kyle) both of Queensbury; his grandson, Weston Bradley; his stepdaughter, Cassandra Gerrard (James) of Plainfield, IL; his significant other, Carrie Freed and her children, Sydney and Chase, and her granddaughter, Sophia; his siblings, Barbara Winchell (Richard), Steven Rouse (Carol), Beth Gillingham (Scott), and several nieces, nephews, who he adored and looked forward to seeing, as well as many cousins.

Friends may call Wednesday, May 17, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 12:00 p.m., at Browns Cemetery in West Fort Ann, with full military honors.

Following the graveside, everyone is welcome to a gathering at the Elks Lodge #81, 32 Cronin Rd., in Queensbury, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

HUDSON FALLS – Tony “Butch” Sabo, Jr., 74, of Hudson Falls, “took the stairway to heaven” on Thursday, May 10, 2023, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on April 28, 1949, in Geneva, NY, he was the son of the late Antonius Sabo Sr. and the late Mary Jane (Marino) Sabo.

Tony was a 1967 graduate of Hudson Falls High School.  After high school, Tony went to college briefly before enlisting in the United Sates Air Force.  Tony served his country in Vietnam in K9 Patrol from 1969 to 1973.

Following his discharge, he went back to college, graduating from Alfred University with his Engineering Degree.

On November 28, 1986, he married Jennifer Aiello in Owego.

Tony was known as a “Jack of all Trades”, he worked for the Troy Shirt Makers Guild as a manager of their Whitehall Plant, he did accident reconstruction and taught college at various colleges.  He was a member of the Rotary for several years, a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Department.

Tony was kind, caring, honest and knowledgeable, he was always willing to share that knowledge with anyone.  He would give his time and energy to anyone who was in need, and in doing so he made many great friends.

Tony was also a world class archer and pistol shooter, an avid motorcyclist and proficient with anything that had a motor.  Animals held a special place in his heart, especially dogs.  His current fur baby is Tucker.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jennifer Sabo; his children, Eric Sabo and his wife, Jess, Adam Sabo and his fiancé,  Jacqueline and Jessica Sabo and her wife, Jean; his 5 ½ grandchildren, Jaelyn, Alex, Maddie, Khloe, Sienna and one to be determined; his siblings, Sandra Strother, Rebecca Romano, Kathy Sabo, Tina-Marie Liles, Peter Sabo, Craig Sabo and Elias Sabo, Jr.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

A memorial mass will be celebrated 12 noon on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Zion Episcopal Church on Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Committal services with full military honors will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

HUDSON FALLS – Doris T. Underwood, 90, of Hudson Falls, NY passed away at home surrounded by family on April 2, 2023.

Doris was born to Owen and Ida Thomas on December 2, 1932, in Whitehall, NY, grew up in Granville, NY and graduated from Granville High School.

She was employed at Continental Insurance as a clerk for many years and retired in 1994.

She married Ralph Underwood in November of 1981 and joined the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church.

Doris volunteered for the food pantry, bake sales, and the clam chowder luncheons.

She was happiest when she was in her kitchen baking, especially pies. Doris loved her flowers, reading, playing Scrabble and collecting angels.

Doris is survived by her children, Debbie (Bob) Dowling, Darcie (Dino) Brancati, Tom Erdman, Ralph (Sue) Underwood, Joann (Matt) Baker, Jane Thomas, Wendy (Van) Chakalis and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

HUDSON FALLS – Jeffry J.P. Donnelly, Jr., 27 of Hudson Falls, loving daddy, fiancé, son, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle co-worker and friend to many, passed away doing what he loved on Friday, May 5, 2023.  

Born on December 27, 1995 in Glens Falls, he was the son of Jeffry J. P. Donnelly, Sr. and Amy (Graham) Donnelly. Jeffry grew up in Hudson Falls and was a 2014 graduate of Hudson Falls High School. He worked with his father for the last 4 years at J Donnelly Transport as driver and mechanic and, in the winter months, he worked for Rick McGuire Excavating & Trucking.  While growing up Jeffry could be found with his Grandpa, Buddy Graham, on his milk truck for Van Aernem’s Dairy.

Jeffry’s favorite pastime was spending time with Brittany, and his best friends, his daughter Morgan and son Dakota.  Morgan, his daughter, thinks, “He was the Best Daddy in the World.”  Dakota says “Daddy was his best friend.” He was a big kid and would join in all their games and playtime.  Jeffry was a gear head and everyone could tell by his greasy hands and clothes he wore with pride. He loved anything with an engine and spent many weekends drag racing at the sand drags in Corinth and Maine, circle track racing, riding his dirt bike, snowmobiling and partying by a bonfire. He was a true lover of nature and always wanted to be outside from toddler years and beyond. Family and friend gatherings were a must and focus of his free time.

He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Buddy and Dianne Graham, and his paternal grandparents, Dennis and Paula Donnelly.

He is survived by his fiancé Brittany VanGuilder; his daughter Morgan Wilson-Donnelly; his son Dakota Patrick Donnelly; his parents Jeffry Donnelly, Sr. and Amy Donnelly (Graham); his brother Matthew Donnelly; his Aunt and Uncles – Shannon Donnelly (Jack Swinton), John Donnelly (Scrappy), Deniele (Brandon) Pliscofsky, Michelle (Timothy) Plummer and Lori (Dave) Bodak; and all the family pets including dogs, cats, rabbits, goats and Fred the turtle. Jeffry shared a special relationship with his fiancé, Brittany’s sisters, Ashley and Cassandra VanGuilder and their children. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.

Friends may call from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at the Gospel Lighthouse Church, 30 LaCross Street in Hudson Falls. A service will follow at 4:00 pm.

HUDSON FALLS – Axl Rose Lloyd passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023, at his home.

Born on November 23, 2022, he was the son of Katrina Delgado and Christopher Lloyd.

Axl was deeply loved by all his family. Although tiny, he had a mighty scream to remind everyone when it was time for him to eat. Axl was a happy baby and had a beautiful smile that would light up any room.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather Oscar Delgado.

In addition to his parents, Axl is survived by his big brother Dante Lloyd; big sister Ava Lloyd; maternal grandparents Jodi Delgado and Jim Troumbley; his paternal grandparents Theresa and Brian Dunlop; his maternal great grandmother Patricia Sullivan; maternal great grandfather Eric Sullivan (Paula); his uncle’s Sean Lau (Haleigh), Dean Sullivan, David Lloyd, Bobby Lloyd; and his aunt Ashley Delgado. Axl is also survived by several cousins and a very special “auntie”, Val Troumbley.

The Rite of Committal will be 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Glens Falls Cemetery on Bay Street in Glens Falls.

GLENS FALLS – Lois Ann (Buck) Phelps, 99, passed away Friday, May 5, 2023 at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.  Born on November 8, 1923 in Glens Falls, Lois was the only child of the late S. H. Mead Buck and Myrtle (Crosbie) Buck.

Lois grew up in Glens Falls. In 1942, she graduated from Glens Falls High School. After graduation, she worked at the Glens Falls Insurance Company.  Her lifelong friend and classmate, June (LaPoint) Gratton, and sister-in-law Miriam (Phelps) Ellsworth always shared weekly lunch outings and celebrated many birthdays and family gatherings together.

Lois was in High School when June introduced her to the love of her life, Robert E. Phelps. They were married on December 28, 1944.  He passed away in 2000 after 55 wonderful years of marriage. When Bob was discharged from the Navy after serving in WWII, they bought a home on West Notre Dame Street in Glens Falls.  Having been an only child, she always wanted a large family.  Lois assumed that role graciously and lovingly raised four sons and two daughters.  Lois remained a homemaker until her youngest children were in school, then she went to work at the ophthalmology office of Dr. David Clarke.

Lois and Bob spent all their summers at the family camp on Hadlock Pond.  They also were members of the Merry Mohicans Square Dance Club, and both enjoyed bowling in the couples and singles leagues. Vacations were spent at the seashore and they took a once in a lifetime trip to Hawaii with friends, as well as California and Disney World with family.

A lifelong member of Christ Church United Methodist, Lois was proud of attending two local Methodist churches during her life.  She taught Sunday school, attended bible study and served on several committees.

In addition to her husband, she is pre-deceased by her daughter Constance Tomb, sister-in-law Miriam Ellsworth, and granddaughter Christine Phelps.  Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Carolyn (Michael) Friers; her four sons, Richard (Pamela), Robert, Brian (Peggy) and Tom (Amy) and son-in-law Kenneth Tomb.  She is also survived by grandchildren, Jon, Steve and Chris Phelps, Rob, Jared and Susie Phelps, Patrick Tomb,  Kristen, Matt and Katie Phelps, Allison (Mike) Gifford, Brandon (Aleesha) Friers, Melissa and Megan Phelps; Great-grandchildren, Robert, Andrew and David Phelps, Maggie McLaughlin, Drayke, Kyan, and Kevin Swinton, Reagan Gifford, Lydia Friers and great-great grandson Tatum Shields.

The family would like to thank the Hudson Headwaters medical team and the Fort Hudson Nursing Home, especially the staff on G Wing, along with the High Peaks Hospice team for their loving care of Mom during the past year.

Calling hours will take place on Friday,  May 12, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc.,  68 Main Street in Hudson Falls. 

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 11:00 am at Christ Church United Methodist, 54 Bay Street, Glens Falls, New York.  Burial will follow at Bay Street Cemetery.

HUDSON FALLS – Edward William Cleavland, Sr., 67 of Hudson Falls, passed away at his home on May 4, 2023, with his family by his side.

Born February 10, 1956, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Sarge Cleavland and Nina (Daggett) Cleavland.

Ed was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School. Later in life, Ed obtained his associate degree in computer science from NRI.

He proudly served his country as a United States Marine.

Ed married Theresa “Terri” Smith in September of 1981 in Wichita, Kansas. They spent 40 years together until Terri’s passing in August of 2022.

Ed was a cross country truck driver for 15 years.  After receiving his degree, he owned and operated his own computer business. Ed enjoyed serving his community by volunteering as a firefighter. He was a volunteer firefighter for 17 years beginning in Gansevoort and ending his career with his son, Edward, Jr., by his side with the South Queensbury Fire Department.

Ed loved hunting and fishing throughout Fort Ann, HAM Radio and “prepping”. He was skilled at wood working, making various pieces of furniture for his family.  Ed was a very proud man with a memorable laugh.

In addition to his parents and wife, Ed was predeceased by his son, Robert Leon Smith, Sr.

Ed is survived by his children, Sadie Szucs and her husband, Wayne, Diana Staunton and her husband, Tom, and E.J. Cleavland and his wife, Jennifer; his grandchildren, Shyanne, Lucas, Connor, Logan, Aaron, Shane, Adelei, Gage, Emelia, Megan, Courtney, Mackenzie, Aubrey, Abigail, Robert, Austin, Tyler and Destiny; as well as his great-grandchildren.

Friends may call Monday, May 8, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., in Hudson Falls.

A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 1 p.m., at the funeral home.

Burial will follow the funeral service at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward, with full military honors.

HUDSON FALLS – Ronald L. Jarvis, Sr., 80, passed away peacefully at his home, on Monday, May 1, 2023, surrounded by his loving wife, children, family, and close friend.

Born January 29, 1943, in Glens Falls, Ron was the son of the late Ephraim and Anna (Gonyea) Jarvis.

Ron married the love of his life, Ann Belden in 1962.

He was employed for many years at Monahan & Loughlin in Hudson Falls as a sheet metal fabricator/draftsman traveling the United States.  Following retirement, Ron then went on to start the construction business, Jarvis Construction, with his son, Ron Jr. This was one of Ron’s greatest joys, as all his children at one time or another would help with his projects.

Ron served in the United States Air Force.

He loved riding his motorcycle, bowling, snowmobiling, NASCAR racing, golfing, hosting clambakes, and traveling. Ron loved the New York Yankees. Some of his greatest moments were the father son time spent with Ronnie, family gatherings, helping anyone in need, and taking his wife and five children on summer vacations when the children were out of school. Ron loved taking the love of his life, Ann, gambling. His pride and joy were his nine grandchildren whom he loved dearly.

Ron was a proud member of the American Legion Post 574 in Hudson Falls where he loved running the bingo, clambakes, and chicken and steak cookouts for the community.

In addition to his parents, Ron was predeceased by his sisters Eileen (Jarvis) Coats, and Lorraine (Jarvis) Gregory and her husband Russ; his brothers, Jr (Ephraim) Jarvis and his wife, Irene, Irwin Jarvis, Lloyd Jarvis, Herman Jarvis, Norman Jarvis, and Wayne Jarvis.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ann; his children Teresa (Marc) Goldman, Melanie (Jim) Dinwiddie, Rhonda Jarvis (Mike), Patti Jarvis (Angela), Ronnie Jarvis, and Matt Rich; his grandchildren, Zack Bissell, Brittany Rich, Brooke Rich, Courtney Dinwiddie, Ben Dinwiddie, Sarah Paige, Gavin Jarvis, Dylan Jarvis, and Hunter Jarvis; his sisters in law, Janice Jarvis and Sharon Jarvis; brother in law Kenneth Coates and his wife Daisy; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 5 p.m. at the American Legion Post 574, on Pearl Street in Hudson Falls.

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Robert “Bob” Duggan, Jr., 76, of South Glens Falls, was reunited with his wife in Heaven on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at his home with his family by his side.

Born on November 11, 1946, in Glens Falls, he was the oldest of 8 children to the late Robert Duggan, Sr. and Beverly (Kingsley) Duggan.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He was very active in his community, volunteering for the Gansevoort Volunteer Fire Department where he was an Assistant Chief.  Bob worked as a truck driver for over 40 years, for various companies as a member of the Teamsters Union, eventually retiring from Finch Paper in Glens Falls.

He loved his horses and enjoyed working with Standardbreds at the Saratoga Harness Track. He was also a member of the Adirondack Gymkhana Association. In his younger years, he would participate in the local rodeos. Bob enjoyed NASCAR racing and was a Rusty Wallace fan. He will always be remembered as the best husband, father, grandfather, G-Pa and brother.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of almost 50 years, June (Manning) Duggan, who passed away on May 12, 2014.

He is survived by his son, Tony (Denise) Rourke; his daughters, Tina Newhouse, LouAnn (Mike) Weir, Shawn (Scott) Bowe, and Susan Duggan; his grandchildren, Tyler and Ryley Weir, Toni Lynne Twiss, Alysha Schilinski, Haley Duggan, Nick Richard, Brett Bowe, Noah Rourke, and Dawson Newhouse; and he was G-Pa to Keegan, Mara, and Nolan Weir, Addie May, and Oakley Schilinski.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the funeral home with Chaplin Tom Ryberg, officiating.

Burial will follow, where he will be laid to rest next to his wife, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward, with full military honors.

Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital, the Visiting Nurses of Albany, as well as the nurses and volunteers at the Community Hospice of Saratoga for taking very special care of Bob and his family during this difficult time.

QUEENSBURY – Marion D. Kohls, 88, a longtime resident of South Glens Falls, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at The Pines in Glens Falls.

Born August 6, 1934, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late George and Leonora (Fitzpatrick) Clum.

Marion was a self-taught artist who sold many of her paintings locally and received several awards in art competitions.

She was an avid book reader, enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, crocheting, knitting, and was very good at roller skating and ice skating, in her younger years.

Marion worked many years in the banking industry before retiring from TD Bank.

In addition to her parents, Marion was predeceased by her husband Harry; her twin sister, Joan (Clum) Rivers and her husband, Francis; her sister, Linda (Clum) Dufour and her husband, Edward; and her brothers, Peter Clum, Thomas Clum and Michael Clum.

Marion is survived by her son, Tim Clum and his wife, Cindy; her granddaughters, Sarah Clum and Lindsay (Clum) Roberts and her husband, Chris; her great grandson, Callen Roberts; her sister, Virginia (Clum) Boisclair; her brother, David Clum (Vicki); her sisters in law, Linda Clum, Terri Clum and Patti Clum, as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of The Pines for the kindness and care they provided for Marion during her stay.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

GLENS FALLS – Aaron S. Havens, of Glens Falls, passed away surrounded by his beloved family at Glens Falls Hospital from a rare form of Liver Cancer on April 28, 2023.   Born January 29, 1970, he was 53 years old. 

Aaron was a 1988 graduate of South Glens Falls. He married his best friend of 41 years, served in the United States Air Force from 1990-2011, took part in several operations such as -Operation Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, Operation Desert Fox, Enduring Freedom, provide promise/comfort, and Haiti, also a tour in South Korea.  Aaron made it clear that the military wasn’t just a career but part of his family.  He took pride in all he loved and those he held close.  Aaron enjoyed working on antique vehicles and building things in his free time.

He is predeceased by both parents, Asher S. Havens, and Helen P. Havens, and his sister, Patrecia-Ann Jackson.

Aaron is survived by his wife, Stephanie M. Havens; his children, Zachary C. Havens, Alec M. Havens (Kirsten), Alison S. Havens-Lippy; his grandchildren, Tessa R. Havens, Ashlyn S. Lippy, Aubrey S. Lippy and Aiden C. Lippy; his siblings, Asher Havens (Diana), Bill Jackson, Andrew Havens (Tracy), Anthony Havens (Suzanne), Adam Havens (Annette), Alicemarie Johnston (Curtis) and several nieces and nephews.

WHITEHALL – Everett R. Mattison III, 36, of Whitehall, was tragically taken from his loved ones doing what he loved on April 21, 2023.

Born August 16, 1986, Everett was the son of Everett R. Mattison Jr. and Vicky (Starks) Mattison of Whitehall.

Everett attended Hartford Central School. He was employed at Adirondack Natural Stone in Whitehall.

He married the love of his life, Marieka Carman on June 30, 2012.

Everett was an avid hunter. He loved spending time with his family, fishing, and riding his motorcycle. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.

Everett was predeceased by his paternal grandparents Everett Mattison Sr. and Jane (Rosick) Mattison; his maternal grandparents, Raymond and Beverly (Blair) Starks; his favorite aunt, Edna Green; and several aunts and uncles.

Survivors include his loving wife of 10 years, Marieka (Carman) Mattison of Whitehall; his 2 children, Everett R. Mattison, IV and Maraylee Mattison; his parents, Everett R. Mattison Jr. and Vicky (Starks) Mattison of Whitehall; his siblings, Tina Mattison, Kristi Lee Johnson, Joshua Mattison, Jessica Stevenson; and his brother in law who he thought of as a brother, Melvin Key Sheppard; his special niece, Kaylee Jade Kelly; his mother and father in law, Jim and Donna (Pettis) Carman; his close friend, Jimmy O’Rourke; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many loved ones.

GLENS FALLS – Terry Joseph Fitzgerald, affectionately known as ‘The Old Man’, 75, of Glens Falls, passed away unexpectedly on the morning of April 25, 2023.

Terry’s sunrise was on May 3, 1947, born to the late Beryl and June (Rabine) Fitzgerald. As most of his family and friends will agree, The Old Man was always larger than life, and started that way when he entered this world as an almost 14-pound baby! His mom joked that he needed shoes when he was born since he was ready to walk at birth.

Terry spent his youth working with his dad on the family race cars, and with his grandfather on his plane projects. He graduated to his own race truck, an old Ford called the Silver Bullet, and the love of racing never left him. He spent many years racing between Upstate New York as a youth and later in Northern Michigan with his 4-cylinder Chevy Monza, the F-4. He won “Sportsman of the Year” at Northern Michigan Speedway in 2003, for doing what he was known for, helping others.

“The Old Man” was a founding member and Vice President of the Hebron Motorcycle Club for the last decade. The Old Man loved his “Brothers and Sisters, ” truly embodied what it meant to be a biker, and passed that on to his family. He was a member of the Drifter’s Motorcycle Club in the ’70s. Known as ‘Tramp’ he traversed the country many times on his Harleys and made friends and connections everywhere. He was also a member for many years of the Elegant Disciples Motorcycle Club, an interracial motorcycle club out of the heart of Detroit. As a Jack of All Trades, Terry was a talented Harley mechanic, electrician, rough carpenter, and had knowledge of almost everything mechanical. If it was broken, he could either fix it, or be able to tell you why he couldn’t, but who could. Terry loved tinkering and loved a challenge, and he was able to spend the last 15 years working maintenance for Moran Enterprises.

Terry is survived by the love of his life, wife of 32 years, Dawn (Matson) Fitzgerald; their children, Doniece (Brad) Muzzy, and Ashleigh Fitzgerald; along with Debbie and their children Terry (Nancy) Fitzgerald, Jesse (Ivy) Fitzgerald, Shelly (Larry) Curtis; Terri Jo Fitzgerald, daughter of Michelle Leombruno (deceased), and his first wife, Alice and their daughter, Wendy. Alice and Terry’s daughter Jill passed away in June 1991. He has 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls. A short service will take place at 3:30 pm.
