Edna Goulet

Goulet, Edna (Copy)HUDSON FALLS AND INDIAN LAKE – Edna Goulet, 93, of Hudson Falls and formerly of Indian Lake passed away Saturday April 26, 2014 at her home with her family by her side.

Born October 25, 1920 in Indian Lake, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Florence Brown.

Edna attended Indian Lake High School and on October 25, 1939 she married Edward Goulet in Olmsteadville with the Rev. Hatch officiating.

With her husband she owned and operated Goulet’s Wood Products in Indian Lake. In 1967 Edna and Edward moved the family to Florida and in 1975 they retired to Franklin, NC. They bought and converted a former private boarding school for girls into their home with apartments and a campground. While renovating the school they also ran Goulet’s Locksmith for 10 years. After retiring from the campground and locksmith businesses they moved to Hudson Falls with their daughter Kathryn.

She loved square dancing with her husband in Florida and North Carolina. While living with her daughter in Hudson Falls she enjoyed sunny days on the front porch viewing the farm and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren work and play. She loved to reminisce about the old days, and her childhood spent at Lewey Lake Campsite where her parents were caretakers for 30 years. She also enjoyed visiting her daughter Elaine’s lakeside camp and trips to the ocean and White Mountains with her daughters.   She always referred to herself as “just a Country girl” and “A tough Ol’ Bird”.

For the past three years Edna was cared for by Kathryn and Elaine with assistance from her daughter Karen during the summers. She also enjoyed visits from her other daughter Linda.

She was predeceased by her husband Edward Goulet of 72 years in 2012, a son Edward “Beaver” Goulet in 1991 and her sister Lenore Lewis.

Survivors include her 5 children, Keith H. Goulet and wife, Anne, of Lake City, Florida, Karen A. Titton and her husband, Bob, of Leesburg, Florida, Linda R. McCane and her husband, Morgan, of Franklin, NC, Kathryn L. Wood and her husband, Jim, of Hudson Falls, NY, Elaine F. Toth and her husband, Andy, of Schenectady, NY; her grandchildren, Edward, Richard, and Gerry, Brenda, Mike, Amy, Robert, Kathryn, Bret, Eric, Laura, Lorraine, Andrew, Thomas, and Valerie; 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great- great- grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls, with Rev. Mike Bailey, officiating.

Burial will be at Rush Cemetery in Franklin, NC.

Edward James Vincent

Vincent (2)FORT EDWARD – Edward James Vincent, 88, of The Oaks in Fort Edward, died on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Glens Falls Hospital after 11 days of illness.

Born on February 14, 1926, in Whitehall, NY, he was the son of the late Benjaiman and Annabelle (Marcelle) Vincent.

Edward graduated from Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army as a Private 1st Class in the European theatre of operations.

On November 9, 1947, he married Kathleen Kernan in Akron Ohio.

Edward worked for General Electric and Knolls Atomic Power Lab (KAPL) as a Class A. Electrician. He retired in 1988.

His enjoyments included coin collecting, bowling, collecting steins and traveling in his motor home.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife Kathleen M. Vincent who passed away in 1999.

Survivors include his daughter, Diane MacIntosh and her husband Doug; his son, Bruce Vincent and his wife, Connie and Bruce’s stepdaughter and step son, Megan and Ted Dreger; his brother, Kenneth Vincent; and his cousin Berly Vincent and his wife, Diane

There are no calling hours, and services are private.

Interment will take place at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in the town of Stillwater.

Gary L. Dickinson

Dickinson, GarySOUTH GLENS FALLS – Gary L. Dickinson, 59, a lifelong resident of South Glens Falls, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Washington Center of Nursing and Rehabilitation formerly Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Argyle, after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Born on July 11, 1954, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Lyle E. and Lillian (Taylor) Dickinson.

Gary was a graduate of South Glens Falls High School.  Following his graduation he attended Adirondack Community College, now known as SUNY Adirondack.

Gary served as a patrol officer for many years for the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department and the South Glens Falls Police Department.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hudson Falls and loved golfing, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, waterskiing, bowling and boating.

Gary’s life was spent helping others, through his police work, his devotion to the South Glens Falls Volunteer Fire Company, his work with the Boy Scouts, and coaching women’s softball.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Gail Ellen Dickinson.

Gary is survived by his brother, Dale Dickinson and his wife, Mary of Moreau; his niece, Keri Snowball and her fiancé, David Rooks of South Glens Falls; his nephew, Jason Dickinson of Queensbury; his great niece, Claire Snowball of South Glens Falls; his great nephew, Trevor Burch of South Glens Falls; and his lifelong devoted friend, Kim Nichols of Queensbury.

Calling hours will take place on Sunday, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

The South Glens Falls Volunteer Fire Company will meet at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home to pay their respects.

Colleen Sullivan Viele

KINGSBURY – Colleen Sullivan Viele, 86, passed away, April 20, 2014, (Easter Sunday), after a long and stoic battle with Diabetes and Heart Disease.

Colleen worked at GE for 20+ years and after retiring she volunteered at the ACC Daycare Center for several years until she left to take care of her grandkids for 18 years and great grandkids for the last 3 years. She was a beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend. Her family was the center of her life and that sometimes included the Kingsbury neighborhood kids who could usually be found playing in the yard alongside her 8 children.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Kelly Ann Sullivan, her son in law Noel Barber, stepson Craig Viele and her 6 siblings.

She is survived by her husband Lester Viele, her children Dawn (Calvin) Pugh, Kris Barber, Lois Sullivan, Colleen (Kenny) Spaulding, Joseph Sullivan and his Fiance Kelly Carpenter, Dennis (Virginia) Sullivan, Thomas (Christine) Sullivan. Step Children Connie (Jeff) MIller, Cindy (Jeff) Kendierski, Chuck(Kathy)Viele. Her sister Ellen Pezzi. Brother in Law Ernie Viele. Grandchildren Jamie Knight, Jason Knight, Jolene (Josh) Cronin, Elizabeth Sullivan and Dennis & Michael Sullivan. Also Scott Beckwith, Chipper Viele, Christina Kelsey, Jeremy Viele, Genvieve Viele, Tim Woodard. Great Grandchildren Olivia and Alex Cronin and several step-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Mary Jane Sabo

 

SaboHUDSON FALLS – Mary Jane Sabo passed unexpectedly from this life on Saturday, April 19th 2014.

She was born to the late Joseph and Mary Marino on July 9th, 1930 in Geneva, New York. In 1948 she married Antonius Sabo and they lived together with their children in Hudson Falls, New York.

Mary Jane was a devoted and loving mother whose touch extended far beyond just the children she bore. Her home was one of warmth and laughter, and welcomed all without pause. She was safe harbor for anyone with a smile to share or a heart to heal.

Mary Jane is now with her sisters Kathyrn Palmisano, Josephine Prater, and Anna Mae Arms, and is also survived by siblings Joseph Marino, Jr. and wife Dorothy, and Sylvia Opichowski. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Antonius Sabo and 8 children: Antonius Sabo Jr. and wife Jennifer, Sandra Strother, Rebecca Stevens and husband Thomas Romano, Craig Sabo and wife Gina, Kathryn Sabo-Strother and husband Richard, Tina-Marie Liles and husband Douglas, Peter Sabo and wife Jamie, Elias Sabo and wife Caroline; 13 grandchildren: Asha Martellotta, Eric Sabo and wife Theresa, Adam Sabo, Jessica Sabo, Rachel Stevens, Niles Stevens, Brooke Strother, Trevor Strother, Kyra Liles, Arianna Liles, Gabriella Liles, Lindsey Sabo, and Andrew Sabo; and 2 great-grandchildren: Molly and Aidan Martellotta.

Madeline Lovett Edgerly

edgerlyedgerly oldHUDSON FALLS—Madeline Lovett Edgerly, 87, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home and Rehab Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on March 14, 1927, in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late Theopholus and Edith (Zeto) LaViolette.

Madeline attended and graduated from South Glens Falls High School.

Her first husband, Harold E. Lovett passed away in November of 1955, and her second husband, Ralph Edgerly passed away in September of 2011.

Madeline was a member of the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church. She enjoyed taking care of her home, her family, and her extended family.

In addition to her parents and two husbands, she was predeceased by her daughter, Diane Edgerly and her son in law Robert Deyette, Sr.

Survivors include her daughters, Connie Deyette-Klein and her husband, Karl of Glens Falls, and Cindy Edgerly and her fiancé, Bryan Durant, of Queensbury; her grandchildren, Cindy Becker and her husband, Patrick, Robert Deyette, II, and Brendan Grogan; her great-grandchild, Morgan Becker; Devin Durant; her two sisters, Marjorie Butler of South Glens Falls, and Mildred Pratt of Fort Edward; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ann S. Abbey

AbbeyAbbey oldQUEENSBURY – Ann S. Abbey, 81, a long time resident of Queensbury, went into the arms of the Lord, on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Indian River Health Care Facility in Granville, surrounded by her loving family

Born August 10, 1932, in Queensbury, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Melvina (Mero) Stockwell.

In 1949, Ann graduated from Glens Falls High School.

She worked at General Electric in Fort Edward and Hudson Falls for over 40 years.

Ann loved spending time with her grandchildren, and great grandchildren and enjoyed traveling reading, and walking.

Besides her parents, Ann is predeceased by her ex-husband, Carl I. Abbey, her brothers David, Charles, and Wayne Stockwell, and her four half brothers, and two half sisters.

Survivors include her son, Carl S. Abbey of Hudson Falls and his loving companion, Susan Dalbey; her grandchildren, Christopher Abbey of South Glens Falls, Brett Abbey and his wife, Hillery of Queensbury, Keith Abbey and his significant other, Beth Bello of Fort Ann; her great grand children, Luka, Kendall, Reann, Andrew, and Kyle Abbey; her special niece, Joan LaPier and her husband, David of Queensbury; several other nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her special friend, Diane Ingleston of Whitehall.

William (Bill) Troeber

TroeberFORT EDWARD –  William (Bill) Troeber, 97, passed away on January 28, in Vista, CA, with family at his side.

William was born Dec. 18, 1916, the son of William W. and Mabel (Ott) Troeber, in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Bill grew up in Westfield, NJ, graduated from Pingry School, and attended Lafayette College.  He played sports in high school and college, including basketball, football, and ran track.  Also Bill learned to play the clarinet and saxophone,   playing in bands and orchestras.

After college, Bill went to work for the W.T. Grant Company.  He was drafted into the U.S Army just before WWII, and served for the “duration,” as he called it.  He became a First Lieutenant, working in hospital administration.

While stationed near Washington D.C., he met Fan Waynick.  They were married on May 8, 1942.  They remained married for nearly 50 years.  She passed away in 1992.

After the war, Bill returned to W.T. Grant, Co., working as a manager in around New York and Pennsylvania, before becoming the manager of the newly rebuilt store on Main Street in Hudson Falls.

While in Hudson Falls, he was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and The Kiwanis Club, serving as president of the latter.  Bill became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson Falls, where he served served several terms as a Trustee.  He was also a member of the Masons while living in Ellwood City, PA.

In retirement, he enjoyed swimming at the YMCA, playing golf, and visiting family.  He served as President of the Wedgewood Retirement Golf League in Fort Edward.   He was as an election inspector in the Village of Fort Edward for many years.

Bill enjoyed doing crosswords, listening to big band music, and reading.  He also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Knicks, Pirates, and Steelers.

Besides his wife, Bill was predeceased by his parents, and his sister, Betty.

Bill is survived by his sons, William Jr. (Bill), and his wife Barbara, of Ruskin, FL, and Jeff, and his wife Karen, of Carlsbad, CA, plus grandchildren Tim Troeber  and his wife Brenda, of Long Island, David Troeber, of Newark, DE; Edwin Troeber and his wife Missy, of Port Jefferson, NY; Joanna Troeber Steisel, of West Palm Beach FL; Daniel, of San Marcos, CA; and Nathan, of Carlsbad, CA; a sister, Ruth Batt and her husband Dick, of Gardner, MA; step-sister Patricia Moffit, of Albany; and six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 12, as 11 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson Falls, with the Rev. Michael Plank, pastor officiating.

A reception will follow at the church.

Donald H. Bapp

BappQUEENSBURY – Donald H. Bapp, 77, of Queensbury, died Sunday, April 6, 2014, at home with his family present, after a long illness.

Born April 17, 1936, in Princetown, he was the son of the late Oscar O. Bapp and Marian A (Petty) Bapp-Howk.

On September 7, 1956, Donald married Irene Peggy O’Leary at West Glens Falls Chapel.

Don was the owner and operator of his own service station called, Bapp’s Gulf, on Ridge Street, in Glens Falls.  He also worked for Robert D. Monahan with Roofer’s Union 241, for more than 30 years.  He retired from Monahan and Laughlin – Roofers Union in 1994.

Peggy and Don lived on Sunnyside Road, in Queensbury for 54 years.  They also wintered in Fort Pierce, FL for 12 years.  Don enjoyed cars all his life and also watching Nascar races.  Don and Peggy enjoyed attending many Blue Grass festivals and loved country music.  Don’s all time favorite thing was spending time with his sons, grandchildren, and family.

Besides his parents, Don is predeceased by his brothers, Robert, David, and Peter Bapp and his granddaughter, Nicole Bapp.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy; their seven sons, Thomas and his wife, Rissa of Gansevoort, Tymothy and his wife, Robin of Queensbury, Theodore and his wife, Cindy of Hudson Falls, Todd and his wife, Tina of Queensbury, Terry and his wife, Sandi of Argyle, Troy and his wife, Tammie of Queensbury, Tyrone and his wife, Tamara of Queensbury; his 17 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; his brother, Richard Bapp of Queensbury and Stuart, FL;  and two sisters, Harriet Kalme of Easton and Ruth Creeden of Stuart, FL.

Diane Smythe

smytheFORT EDWARD – Diane Smythe, 55, of East Road, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at her home.

Born December 31, 1958, in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late Bruce and Elaine (Frey) Smythe.

Diane was employed as an account clerk for the Hudson Falls School System and was a Martiall Arts Instructor for the Murray’s  Family Martial Arts.  She loved her four dogs, and raising horses on the Hickory Hill Farm in Fort Edward.  Diane enjoyed birds and was an avid naturist.

Survivors include her sister, Lorelle Arpino and her husband, Carlo of Dedham, MA; her nephew, Justin A. Arpino and his wife, Ashley of New Hampshire; her niece, Alyssa M. Arpino and her fiancé, Jesse Alvarado of MA; one grandniece, Aleigha Arpino of MA; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Robert J. “Bobby” Wood

Wood, BobbyARGYLE – Robert J. “Bobby” Wood , 54, of Argyle, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, At Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born November 29, 1959, in Glens Falls, he was the son of  Calvin Durham, Sr and his wife, Sheila. and Elaine Wood.

In 1977, he graduated from Hudson Falls High School.

On February 27, 1981, Bobby married Mary Ray at the United Methodist Church in Hudson Falls.

He was employed as a service manager at Bain’s Automotive in Salem.   Bobby attended the Living Waters Church in Wilton.  He was a member of Adirondack Riders Motorcycle Club and Bulls Eye Shooter.  Bobby was active in many shooting clubs.  He enjoyed playing guitars and riding his Harley with his wife.  He participated in many fund raising rides.  He also enjoyed spending time with family and going on outings with them.  Bobby was a huge Elvis fan.

Bobby is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Alvin and Carmella Wood; his paternal grandparents, Hilbert Calvin Durham and Nina May Durham.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Mary (Ray) Wood of Argyle; his great niece, Nicole Hafner of Argyle; his mother, Elaine Wood of Warrensburg; his father, Calvin Durham, Sr.and his wife, Sheila of Fort Edward; his brothers and sisters, Dan, Sue, Evelyn, Helen, Calvin, Jr., Dean, Glen, Bill, Danny, Sheila, Nina; and several aunts, encles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

Jean M. Daly

Daly, JeanHUDSON FALLS & QUEENSBURY – Jean Mary Daly, 93, formerly of Hudson Falls and Queensbury, went into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, March 27, 2014.  She died peacefully at her granddaughter’s home in Brambleton, Virginia.

Born on May 14, 1920 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late William and Florence (Holleran)  Myron.

She attended St. Mary’s School and later graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1938.   Jean was employed at General Electric in Hudson Falls and Fort Edward from 1943 to 1985, where she worked as a Quality Inspector for many years.

In December of 1942, she married Paul E. Daly.  He passed away in December of 1995.    Jean lived in Hudson Falls for many years and belonged to St. Mary’s Parish.  She moved to Queensbury in 1970.   In 1984, Jean went to Ireland with her cousin, Rita Sullivan to see their ancestry.   In 2006, she moved to Maryland to be near her family.   Jean loved being with her family and would often take her granddaughters blueberry picking to make blueberry pies, and shopping, where trying on modern hats became a typical and fun pastime.  She enjoyed spending time in Lake George and Glen LakeShe was always upbeat, witty, and graceful.  Jean was able to spend her final years with her daughter, granddaughters and their families.  She enjoyed her friends of years past and recently enjoyed watching old TV shows, such as Gunsmoke and Hawaii FiveO.    A month before her death, upon her request, she went to visit the Pennsylvania Amish in Lancaster County, PA with her family.

Besides her parents and husband, Jean is predeceased by her brother, William Myron, her cousins, Loren Sullivan and Rita Sullivan, and her aunt, Elizabeth O’Brien.

She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Kulbako of Germantown, MD; her granddaughters, Kate Pecaro and her husband Mark of San Jose, CA; and Rachel Vennitti and her husband, Chris of Brambleton, VA; her cousins, Bud Sullivan of Fort Edward and his family; Patricia and James Mustacaros of Cape Cod, Mass and their family; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Funeral Mass was held on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.

The Rite of Committal will be later in the spring at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Arrangements are under the care of the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 959 Route 9, Mount Royal Plaza, Queensbury, NY  12804.

Betty J. Mayotte

MayotteHUSDON FALLS – Betty J. Mayotte, 93, of LaClaire Street, went into the arms of the Lord on March 29, 2014 at The Pines in Glens Falls.

Born on February 24, 1921 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late William and Philoma (Lee) Derocher.

Betty attended St. Alphonsus School and later graduated from Glens Falls High School.

Betty used to Square Dance with friends in North Creek as a young women.  She first worked for the A&P and then as a laboratory technician at Finch Pruyn.  It was in Pruyn’s cafeteria that a beautiful young women caught the eye of Joe Mayotte.   On August 15, 1948, they were married by Rev. Arnold English at St. Alphonsus Church.   Joseph passed away in 2007.   Betty was a devoted wife for almost 59 years.  She and Joe were always seen together.  They enjoyed vacationing and visiting family and friends.  Betty greatly enjoyed NY Yankee baseball.  Following the birth of their son, Betty transitioned to the role of fulltime homemaker and mother.   She loved volunteering as a Cub Scout Den Mother and school lunch helper.  Later, as her mother aged, Betty managed her care for a number of years.  She also enjoyed crafts, gardening and was active in the local Home Bureau.  

As a communicant at St. Mary’s / St. Paul’s Church, she was active in several parish organizations, such as St. Anne Sodality, the Martha’s and the Rosary Altar Society.  

Besides her parents and husband, Betty was predeceased by her two brothers, William J. Derocher and Robert “Lee” Derocher.

Survivors include her son, Gregory Mayotte and his wife, Mary of Hopewell Junction; her three grandchildren, Steven Mayotte and his wife, Cassandra of Hoboken, NJ, Anne Covich and her husband, Matthew of Poughkeepsie and Mark Mayotte of Queens; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, following the calling hour at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, on the park in Hudson Falls, with Rev. Thomas Babiuch, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will be later in the spring at St. Paul’s Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.
