HUDSON FALLS – Cassandra L. Schultz, 32, of Hudson Falls, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Saturday morning, December 2, 2023.

Born on July 25, 1991 in Glens Falls, she was a life long area resident and daughter of Meredith (Hess) Schultz and the late James Schultz. She was a 2009 graduate of Indian Lake High School and has worked as a waitress for many local restaurants over the years.

Cassandra loved music. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Glens Falls and enjoyed attending services there with her grandmother since she was a child. She was active in the church school programs as well as the youth group and youth choir and lately enjoyed going with her sons.

Cassandra was a free-spirited person. She could strike up a conversation with anyone in the room and could make you laugh until you cried. She participated in Girl Scouting for many years and served as a junior counselor at Camp Meadowbrook.

In addition to her father, James, she is predeceased by her grandfathers, Alfred Schultz and Donald Hess.

She is survived by her mother, Meredith Schultz of Hudson Falls; her sons, James Desousa, Jr. and Jackson Desousa; the father of her children, James Desousa, Sr.; her grandmothers, Lacinda Hess of Queensbury, and Claire Schultz of Fort Myers, FL; a sister, Melissa L’Heureux (Dr. Luke L’Heureux); her aunts, Karen Hess of Saratoga Springs, and  Leslie Magnotte of Nashville, TN; an uncle, Robert Schultz of Fort Myers, FL; a nephew, Niko, and several cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at the First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls, 8 W Notre Dame St in Glens Falls. Burial will follow in Glens Falls Cemetery on Bay Street.

Friends are invited to call from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday, December 15, 2023 at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

QUEENSBURY – Thomas B. Dwyer, 93, of Queensbury, passed away Friday afternoon, December 1, 2023 at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on December 15, 1929 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Thomas M. and Mary E. (Moran) Dwyer. Thomas grew up in Hudson Falls and attended Hudson Falls Schools. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1948 and served his country in the Construction Battalion (Seabees) in Guam and aboard the USS Juno as a photographer until his honorable discharge in 1952.

A professional photographer, Thomas worked for Ed Durling and then for the Rotary Shirt Factory in Glens Falls, where he met the love of his life, Geraldine (Benway) Dwyer. They were soon married and enjoyed 70 wonderful years together before her passing on October 31, 2020. Later, Thomas secured a job as a machinist at Doty’s Machine Shop in Hudson Falls where he worked for 20 years before retiring. During this time, he also worked as a freelance photographer in the Glens Falls area.

Thomas was an outdoorsman and avid hunter. He enjoyed researching the family genealogy and always had an interest in helping others realize their roots. He loved to putter and fix things and found great pleasure in visiting with people and friends, new and old.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is predeceased by his sisters, Helen Dwyer Powers, Naomi Dwyer Collier, Mary Dwyer Denis, and Elizabeth Dwyer Burns.

He is survived by his children, Paul Dwyer (Nancy) of Florida, Tom Dwyer (Steven Satlow) of Florida, Wanda Rozell (Pete) of Queensbury, and Tim Dwyer of South Glens Falls; his grandchildren, Christopher Dwyer, Heather Mason (Brice), Jeremy Dwyer (Tori), Carissa Maynard (Scott), and Travis Dwyer (Brie); 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, December 11, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 62 Warren Street, Glens Falls, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Friends may call Monday morning from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

FORT EDWARD – Julianne K. Gleason, 81, of Fort Edward, passed away November 25, 2023, at Saratoga Hospital with her loving husband and family by her side.

Born January 25, 1942, in Manhattan, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Julia (McGovern) Hurley.

On February 18, 1967, she married Truman Gleason at St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls.  Together they shared 56 years of marriage.  Their life was a true love story and the love for each other was unconditional.

Julianne worked at C.R. Bard in Glens Falls for many years. 

She loved going to her Friday knitting classes to get together with the girls and also going to the Senior Center in Hudson Falls.  She enjoyed trips to the casino and going out to lunch.  Every monthly she would take a trip to BJ’s with Hayley and her girls.  Julianne always had to let Brylee get at least two or three things that she wanted, that was a must.

Family was most important to Julianne and she was always there for them.  Julianne would never hold back on giving her opinion, whether you liked it or not, and that was ok.  Her daily phone calls to her family are surely going to be missed.

Julianne had many special friends because wherever she went, she met people and would always say, “It doesn’t cost a dime to speak to someone.”  The world has lost a very special person and she will be missed dearly.

Aside from her parents, Julianne was predeceased by her siblings, Thomas Hurley and Barbara Ann Hurley, as well as her brother-in-law, William Gautheir.

Julianne is survived by her husband, Truman Gleason; her fur baby, Fergie; her siblings, Elizabeth Gauthier and Irene and David Field; her nieces and nephews, William Gauthier, Julie and Larry Gaulin, Deena and Norman Coons, Joan Thompson, Kristen and Baron Hall and Tommie-Jo Orr; her great nieces and nephews, Patricia Gaulin and Zack, Mackenzie and Chris Hayes, Corey McGarr, Tyler McGarr and Megan, Hayley and Bryce Breault, Cody and Rylie Hall; her great great nieces and nephews that she absolutely adored, Brylee and Madison Breault and Greyson Hayes.  She was excited for the arrival of Baby McGarr that will be coming soon and also Baby Hayes.

Friends may call Friday, December 1, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., in Hudson Falls.

A funeral service will be conducted Friday, at 6 p.m., following the calling hours.

Burial will take place 11:30 a.m., on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Gerald B.H. Soloman Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.

HUDSON FALLS – Joseph S. Farinelli, 81, went into the arms of the Lord on Monday, November 27, 2023, at Elderwood in Ticonderoga, after a battle with dementia.

Born on June 1, 1942 in Albany, he was the son of the late Anthony and Rose (Clouse) Farinelli.

Joseph was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy in 1960.  He then attended Albany Business College, earning his Associates Degree in Business.

In 1963, Joseph enlisted in the United States Air Force.  He proudly served his country until 1969.

Joseph met his companion, Patricia Sheehan, at work in 1996 at Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, he retired from there in 2003.

He was a lifelong resident of Coeymans and a Communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Ravena. Joseph enjoyed fly fishing in the Catskills and hunting throughout the Albany area.  He also had a passion for photography.  He loved photographing nature, historic sights and people, with his 35mm camera.  He was also an avid NY Yankee and NY Giants fan.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his infant twin brother, John Farinelli.

He is survived by his companion of 27 years, Patricia Sheehan of Hudson Falls; her children, Jamie Arlington of Queensbury, Brian Snowball of Hudson Falls; her grandchildren, Courtney Arlington and her fiancé, Sidney Hewitt of Rotterdam and Cass Arlington of Queensbury; and his extended Sheehan family.

NASSAU – Sonya Beagle Burke, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at her home.

Born on February 9, 1964, in Saratoga Springs, she was the daughter of the late Harold Beagle, Sr. and Elma (Daha) Beagle Simione.

Sonya attended Hudson Falls School before moving to Queensbury and graduating from Queensbury High School.

Sonya worked for Comcast in fiberoptics for many years, before going to work for Equine Advocates, Inc.  She loved working with horses.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and children.  Sonya also enjoyed shopping and decorating her home.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Harold “Butch” Beagle, her grandson, Caeden Burke and her stepfather, Domonic Simione.

She is survived by her children, Dan (Lisa) Beagle, Darrell (Amanda) Burke, Jr., Paul Burke and Tracey Burke; her grandchildren, Sofia Burke, Taylor Burke, Oliver Sanders, Izik Sanders, Malichai Savage, Priscilla Burke, Hailey Burke, Isabella Burke, Eliana Burke, Abbigail Labshere and Mason Bannister; her great grandchild, Zay’vion Bartee; her longtime partner, Manuel “Mannie” Ramirez; her siblings, Francis Simione, Paul Simone, Wanda Savage and her partner, Mike Dickinson, Terry (Anne) Beagle, Harold Beagle, Jr., Aaron Beagle, Cathy Bennett, William Beagle and Debbie Rooks; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be on Monday, December 4, 2023, from 11 to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

A prayer and time of remembrance will follow the calling hours at 1 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

The Rite of Committal will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

QUEENSBURY – Lena May Underwood Chambers Coons, 94 of Queensbury and most recently of Warrensburg, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, November 16, 2023.

Lena was born on April 26, 1929 in the town of Kingsbury to Arthur and Mabel (Farley) Underwood. Lena was a life-long area resident and worked for Glens Falls Insurance until she married Ralph Chambers. She then worked in the Queensbury School cafeteria while her children were small before joining her husband at their business, Adirondack Fire Equipment Sales in Queensbury. Ralph passed away in 1998 and a few years later, she met Kenneth Coons and they were soon married. Kenneth passed away in 2003.

Lena was a devoted member of the Onieda Community Church in Queensbury for over 70 years. She and her husband both were very active in the Bay Ridge Rescue Squad where she served in the auxiliary for many years. Lena also volunteered her time at the Mountainside Free Library and with Meals on Wheels.

She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, crossword puzzles, and playing Scrabble. The time she most loved was time spent with her grandchildren and their families.

In addition to her parents and her husbands, Lena is predeceased by her stepmother, Marjorie Underwood; a brother, Herman Underwood; her sisters, Jean Harrold and Kay Nicholson; two sons, Lawrence and Matthew Chambers; and a grandson, Randall Jenks.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda O’Brien; her daughter in law, Judy Potter; step-children, Andrea Mannix (Pat), Margie Avery, Jerry Coons (Janice), and Douglas Coons (Sandra); her grandchildren, Robin Jenks, Zachary Chambers, Cale Chambers, Katie Campbell, Angela Williams, Charlie Coons, Meghan Jones, Justin Coons, Jeremy Coons, and Brittany Coons; Great Grandchildren, John, Autumn, Lilah, Calvin, Arthur, Riley, and Abbigail; many beloved nieces and nephews as well as 2 great nephews and 1 great niece; and a very special family member who she thought of as a daughter, Carol Sharp.

The family would like to thank the nurses at Countryside Adult Home, her loving niece Nancy Nicholson who took great care of her and Andrea for being by her side.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, December 4, 2023 at the Oneida Community Church, 197 Sunnyside Road in Queensbury. Burial will be in Kingsbury Cemetery.

GRANVILLE, NY – Carleton Warner Davis, Sr., passed away at 101 years of age on Friday afternoon, November 17, 2023. Carleton was born in East Braintree, MA on November 8, 1922 and graduated from Braintree High School. Following high school, he was employed at the Fore River Shipyard before enlisting in the United States Navy and training to be a Naval Pilot. Mr. Davis serviced as a Hellcat pilot on the USS Yorktown in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and returned home to MA at the end of the war.

Following his service, Carleton married Phyllis Carlson of Abington in 1945 and set up home in Weymouth, MA. He studied structural engineering at the Franklin Institute and accepted a position with Jackson and Moreland and United Engineers in Boston, MA where he worked until retirement.

Carleton was a member of the Weymouth Baptist Church and served faithfully as Elder for many years. His life was a reflection of his Christian faith.

Mr. Davis lived in Weymouth for 54 years before moving to Granville, NY in 2010 where he resided with family.

Carleton was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis and his older siblings; one sister and three brothers. He leaves behind his four children, Carleton Davis, Jr. (Paula) of Pembroke, MA, Nancy J. Smith (Leland) of Granville, NY, Daniel D. Davis (Becky) of Raleigh, NC, and Peter G. Davis (Julie) of Eastbrook, ME; he also leaves nine grandchildren, Carleton Davis, III (Delia), Monica Floeck, Geoffrey Davis (Elizabeth), Matthew Davis (Kristi), Pamela Reece (Allan), Laura  Briggs (Tyler), Paul Davis (Lindsey), Rachel Williams (Vernel), and John Floeck (Laurie). Carleton also has six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who often affectionately referred to him as Uncle Red.

Carleton was a beloved brother, Husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He will be greatly missed by those he left.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at the family plot in Scotland Cemetery on Pleasant Street, Bridgewater, MA, where he will be laid to rest beside his wife, Phyllis.

HUDSON FALLS – Mary Jane Gertrude (Constantineau) “Mim” Beane, 99, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at Glens Falls Hospital, with her family by her side.

Born on November 24, 1923, in a home her dad was building at 12 LaBarge Street in Hudson Falls, Mary Jane was the daughter of the late Frank and Agnes (Lamoureaux) Constantineau.

She enjoyed being a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.  Mary Jane was a devoted member of the Catholic Church and a member of the Rosary Altar Society. She and two friends started “The Martha’s” in March of 1991 and served until February 2011. For many years, Mary Jane was a Eucharistic Minister and was highly active in the church Bereavement Ministry. Her ministry brought her to Fort Hudson Nursing Home where she brought great comfort to the patients. Mary Jane also enjoyed going there for crafts, birthday parties and Bingo. She brought communion to shut ins over the course of several years.

Mary Jane made May baskets for the South Glens Falls Seniors in the yearly sale. She was forever busy sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Her travels took her abroad to many countries. She especially loved to travel to numerous States in the USA. Mary Jane loved playing cards with family, especially with her card club of 27 years with six of her friends. Sadly, after many years, it had to end. Mary Jane bowled until it ended at the age of eighty-nine.

Many people will remember her as a longtime employee of Mallinckrodt Inc. in Argyle, until she retired in 1989.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Victor, and Raymond Constantineau; her sisters, Doris Constantineau, Bea O’Leary, and Eva McDonald.

Survivors are her loving children, Judy Monahan of Queensbury, Linda Larocque (John) of Queensbury, Betty Winney of Hudson Falls, Joseph Beane of Fairfax, VT, and Peter Beane (Sharon McAloon) of Dunnellon, Fl; her grandchildren, Sherry Dion (Billy), Shawn Matteson, Tammy Dorr (Randy Baker), Nicole Beane, Margaret Nicholson, Raymond Winney (Tracy), Eric Beane, Jennifer Beane (Alan Kryskiewicz), Matthew Beane; 15 great grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Per Mary Jane’s wishes, there will be no calling hours.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m., on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at St. Michael’s the Archangel Church at 80 Saratoga Ave., in South Glens Falls.

Rite of Committal will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.

The family suggests memorial donations in Mary Janes’s name be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

On November 12, 2023, Mrs. Josephine Miner (Roberge) Scivetti passed away peacefully at St. Joseph Hospital, Syracuse, NY.  She was 93 years old.

Born September 5, 1930, in Barre, Vermont, Josephine was a longtime resident of Hudson Falls.  She married Joseph Rene’ Roberge in November 1947.  After the death of her first husband (1995), she married Frank Scivetti, who died in 2004. She lived several years in Florida, then returned to Syracuse, living there for the past 20 years.

In addition to her husbands, Josephine was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Eva Miner; her brothers Donald (a Korean War POW), Guy and John; her sisters Laura and Dorothea; her brother-in-law and his wife, Adelord and Theresa Roberge; and her youngest son, Andre’ (2022).  She is survived by her sons William and his wife, Nola, of Liverpool, New York; and Rene’ and his wife, Pamela, of Hudson Falls; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Based on her wishes, Josephine will have no public funeral services. 

Her family has fond memories of her as a mother who put her family’s needs ahead of her own.  For example, in addition to her fulltime job at Grubers’ Factory in Hudson Falls in the 1950’s and 1960’s, she did laundry and ironed clothes for other families while raising and providing for her three sons. When she lived in Florida, she always advised visiting friends and family to wear sweaters, even with temperatures in the 70’s.  And ever the cost-conscious wife and mother, she made sure she dined out at “Early Bird Special” restaurants where she’d eat plentifully from the salad bar–but took the main meal home for the next day’s dinner!  

One of Josephine’s favorite songs (which son Rene’ played on his accordion for her) was “Whispering Hope,” a symbol of the presence of a higher power providing solace and support to those in need.  Those who knew Josephine are invited to take comfort in these lyrics which provide a message of hope, encouraging us to be patient, knowing this storm of grief over the loss of someone we hold dear, will eventually pass, and brighter days filled with cherished memories will lie ahead:

Breathing a lesson unheard

Hope with a gentle persuasion

Whispers her comforting word.

Wait ’til the darkness is over

WILTON – Monty S. Volpe, 76, went home to our Lord on the wings of angels, after suffering a long illness, on November 9, 2023, at Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs.

Born May 27, 1947, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Pasqualine “Al’ and Dorothy (Bissell) Volpe.

Monty was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School, class of 1965.

On February 11, 1967, Monty married the love of his life, Diane Gorham at St. Joseph’s Church in Fort Edward.  Together they shared 47 years, until her passing in 2014.

Following his high school graduation, Monty went on to work at the Glens Falls Cement Company (Lehigh) from 1966 to his retirement.  He often spoke about how much he enjoyed his career there, starting with blasting caps, driving heavy equipment, learning plant operations and then finally as a lab technician, before retiring.

Monty enjoyed camping with his family whenever he could, making new and lasting friends.  He and his wife, Diane, were often joined by friends and family at the local bingo halls as well.

In his golden years, he enjoyed many adventures and traveling experiences with his friend and companion for eight years, Linnea Peters, who loved and cared for him.

Survivors include his children, Tracy L. Fowler and her husband, David of Hudson Falls, Tina L. Nassivera and her husband, Robert of Fort Edward,  Monty R. Volpe and his companion, Trina of Hudson Falls; his grandchildren, Christi Mozo, Carrie Nassivera and her fiancé, Bruce Durham, Jeremy Fowler and Justin Fowler; his great grandchildren, Nathaniel Mozo, Savannah Mozo and Allie-Rose Fowler; his companion, Linnea Peters of Saratoga Springs; his two devoted sisters, Marie Ludeke of Hudson Falls and Gloria LaFountain of Glens Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Wednesday, November 15, 2023, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.

The funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m., on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at the funeral home.
