Logan A. Dean

DeanGLENS FALLS – Logan A. Dean, 26, of Wing Street, passed away on Friday, October 10, 2014, after a long struggle with diabetes.

Born March 2, 1988, in Glens Falls, he was the son of Floyd E. and Doreen (Goodman) Dean of Florida.

Logan graduated in 2006 from South Glens Falls High School.  While in high school he studied culinary arts at F.D. Myers Center in Saratoga.   Logan continued his education at SUNY Adirondack , working on a degree in Culinary Arts.  For many years, Logan did what he loved by working as a cook at Abbotts in South Glens Falls.  Currently he was employed at Target Warehouse in Gansevoort.

He enjoyed golfing, four-wheeling with family and going fishing.  Logan was an avid band member, where he played the trombone.  He also loved listening to country music.  Logan loved watching baseball, basketball and football. His favorite team was the New York Giants.   He especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

Logan was predeceased by his grandparents,  James and Doris Goodman and Irving and Mary Dean.

Survivors include his siblings, Matthew Dean and his wife, Jodi of Glens Falls, Timothy Dean of Vero Beach, Heather Clark and her companion, John Williams of Salem, Kody Dean of Elmira, Lizabeth Dean and her companion, Jeffrey Strainer of Hartford and Danyal Dean and his companion, Melissa of South Glens Falls; his brother in law, Jody Clark of Glens Falls; six nieces and nephews, Brittany Clark, Evan Dean, Brianna Clark, Emma Dean, Emma Strainer and Kaelyn Strainer; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.

The funeral service will follow calling hours at 1 pm on Saturday at the funeral home with The Reverend Tony Childs, officiating.

Burial will follow the funeral at Southside Cemetery in the town of Moreau.

Walter E. Scarincio

ScarincioHUDSON FALLS – It is with profound sadness, that we mourn the death of Walter E. Scarincio.  He bounced into the world on Friday the 13th and left it a richer place because of his life.  His boundless energy and love gave us all so many wonderful lasting memories.  Walter died unexpectedly, Monday afternoon on October 13, 2014, with his wife by his side.  There will be an empty place in all of our hearts as we go on without him.

Born on May 13, 1927, in Albany, he was the son of the late Erminio and Louise (Cunningham) Scarincio.

Walter was proud of his military service, during World War II, in the United States Navy.  He was in charge of a LCVP Personnel Landing Craft.  His task was to make sure troops and equipment landed safely on shore during the invasions of Saipan, Iwo, Okinawa, the Philippines, New Hebrides and all over the South Pacific.  Walter was also a member of the occupation forces on the ground in Japan, serving in Hiroshima, Nagasaki and in Tokyo, following the dropping of the atomic bomb.  He also patrolled on the USS Missouri, during the signing of the peace treaty.

In 1998, after being together for several years, he married his soul mate, Nancylee Monroe.  Walter was a wonderful husband, who adored his wife and family.  He gave them the world.    Walter also loved taking care of his cat, Willie.  Besides his family, he loved his work.   For 49 years, Walter was the proud owner of W & S Roofing.  He was excellent at his job and was known throughout the area as a hard worker who strived for perfection.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, John Scarincio and his wife Jane and his sister Rose McIntyre.

Walter is survived by his loving wife, Nancylee Scarincio; his sons, Paul Scarincio and his wife, Julia, Walter Scarincio, Mark Scarincio and Michael Scarincio; his step daughters, Melissa Tefft and her husband, Rob and Denise Montena and her husband, Tom; his step son, David Snyder and his wife, Angela; many grandchildren and step grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Thursday, October 16, 2014, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be conducted at 6 pm on Thursday, following the calling hours, with the Pastor Regina Haag, of Adirondack Friends meeting, officiating.

Burial will be 10 a.m. on Friday, at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward, with full military honors, provided by the Hudson Falls American Legion Post #574, Honor Guard.

Walters family requests donations in his memory be sent to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 516 Carew St. Springfield, MA 01104-2396.

Howard G. Coso

CosoHUDSON FALLS – Howard G. Coso, 88, a longtime Hudson Falls resident, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2014, surrounded by his loving family, at Fort Hudson Health Care Facility in Fort Edward.

Born November 25, 1925, in Palatine Bridge, he was the son of the late Howard and Hilda (Brand) Coso.

Howard proudly served aboard the U.S.S. Alaska during World War II.

He worked for Arkel and Smith, later known as Chase Bag, in Moreau, for more than 40 years.

He enjoyed coffee time at Stewarts with his daughters, sharing Oreo’s with the staff at Fort Hudson, his cars, and especially loved his 1995 Ford Mustang.

Besides his parents, Howard was predeceased by his one son Philip Wesley Coso.

Survivors include his four daughters, Cheri Newell and her husband, Mike of Argyle, Sandy Roberts and her husband, Bill of Fort Ann, Vicki Reynolds of Hartford, Nancy Rosati and her husband, John of Hudson Falls; his grandchildren, Jason Girard, Danielle Reynolds, Shannon Reynolds, and Sean Daley; and his great grandchildren, Hayleigh Girard and Dylan Girard.

There will be no calling hours.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, on the park in Hudson Falls, with The Reverend Thomas Babiuch, pastor, officiating.

Following the Mass there will be a gathering at McManus Hall.

Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.

Howard’s family would like to specially thank the staff at Fort Hudson: Patti, Fran, Justin Nan, Stephanie, Elizabeth, Susie, and all who helped care for Howie Boo-Boo.

Howard A. Ritchie

RitchieQUEENSBURY – Howard A. Ritchie, 86, of Queensbury, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 27th, 2014, at the Fort Hudson Nursing Center.

Born October 10, 1927 in Gouverneur NY, he was the son of the late Emerson and Louisa Ritchie and worked on the family dairy farm until he graduated from Richville High School in 1945.  He was the last WWII draftee from St. Lawrence County in December 1945 and served two years primarily at the Army hospital in Bremerhaven, Germany.  Upon his return, he attended the New York State Agricultural and Technical Institute in Canton NY (earning spending money playing trumpet in a dance band) and graduated in 1949.  After marrying Gretchen later that year, he bought his own dairy farm, started a family raising two boys–Scott and Brad (one with special needs) and took in another boy, Tom, who became a ‘son’ as well.  After twelve years of building the dairy farm virtually from scratch, Howard was looking for a new challenge.  He sold the farm, joined Farm Credit Services and moved the family to Hudson Falls.  After a successful 25-year career providing a diversified portfolio of loans for dairy and horse farms, orchards, rural housing, farm equipment and even airplanes, he retired as Assistant Vice-President and Manager of the regional office located in Hudson Falls.  Howard was an active member of Kiwanis and was one of the original founders of the local ARC (Association for Retarded Citizens) chapter and subsequently was on the Board of Directors and Finance Committee.  He volunteered his builder skills to help modify the ARC group home where his son Scott currently resides.

In his free time, Howard pursued many interests.  He dabbled in photography, loved gardening, cruising on Lake George in his boat (putt-putt rides as he would call them), and camping with good friends on the Mother Bunch Islands on the north end of that lake.  He truly enjoyed summers with friends and family at the family cottage on the Hudson River, and once retired, winters in Florida.  Regardless of location, he loved spending his days outside tending his flowers and plants and generally “puttering around the house”.  Howard was bitten by the golf bug and enjoyed rounds with his son Brad and long-time friend, Ron.  He always looked forward to the cocktail hours with best friends, Don and Pat (and dog Jeter), Ron and Carol, and Ed and Marsha and the fun times, boat rides and gourmet meals with his son Tom and wife Kathleen at their home on Lake George.  He thoroughly enjoyed the winters he and Gretchen spent in Florida – recently this wouldn’t have been possible except for the friendship and never-ending assistance of “angels” Judy and Phil.  To all of the friends near and far, we can’t thank them enough for the help they provided.

His sister, Evelyn, and parents predecease him.  He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gretchen; sons Scott of Hudson Falls NY, Bradford and his wife Sally of Manchester CT, and Thomas Mitchell and his wife Kathleen of Sedona AZ; sister-in-law Ann Real of Leesburg FL; and niece Jane Wilson and her husband Andrew Real of Uxbridge MA; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Fort Hudson Nursing Center for providing compassionate and dedicated care and the doctors and nurses who have attended to him over the past year.

Howard’s family will receive friends at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, Hudson Falls on Thursday, October 9, 2014, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., immediately followed by the memorial service on-site.

Burial in the family plot in Richville, NY will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Howard’s memory may be honored by a contribution in his name to WWAARC at 436 Quaker Road, Queensbury NY 12804.

Irv “Sonny” LeBarron

LeBarronCOLONIE & HUDSON FALLS – Irv “Sonny” LeBarron, 82, a long time resident of Hudson Falls, passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at his home in Colonie.

Born April 2, 1932, in Salem, he was the son of the late Irving and Sadie (Williams) LeBarron.

Irv worked for Chase Bag in Moreau and served as an armed court officer in Washington County, the town of Kingsbury, and the Village of Hudson Falls.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.  Irv enjoyed reading.

Besides his parents, Irv was predeceased by his sisters, Helen Smyth, Louise Smith, Eliza Gregory, Julia Piche, and Ruth Laware.

Survivors include his wife, Betty (Bell) LeBarron; his daughter, Toni Smith; his grandchildren, Joseph Smith, Kristine Kelley and her husband, Rick, Alicia Smith; his great granddaughter, Brianna Kelley; his sister, Eva Ciccarelli; his son in law, Buddy Smith; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Rebecca “Becky” Yell

QUEENSBURY – Rebecca “Becky” Yell, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

 Born on December 19, 1965, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Catherine VanTassell and Michael Dougher.

 Becky was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School.

She loved listening to the group Sublime. Becky enjoyed dancing, but most of all she cherished spending time with her family. She loved traveling, especially Maine, where she lived at one time.     Becky was somewhat of a character, who loved making people laugh, but on the other hand, she was very humble. Becky was a talented cook, who made the best food ever. She loved animals, especially her family pets and was always trying to help someone in need. Becky was known for bringing kids home, in order to give them a meal.

She is survived by her son, Adam John Rouse of Queensbury; her parents, Catherine VanTassell and Michael Dougher of Queensbury; her siblings, Mary Beth Yell and her significant other, Russell Gosselin, Jr. of Hudson Falls, Wyman Yell of Hudson Falls, Eric Yell and his wife, Jean of South Glens Falls, Warren Yell of Queensbury, John Yell of Queensbury, Peter Yell, Jesse Dougher of Queensbury and Jordan Dougher of Queensbury; several nieces and nephews, that loved her dearly; and many cousins and wonderful friends, that are left to cherish her memory.

Friends may call on Saturday, October 4, 2014 from 10 to 12 noon, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Mary E. Lyman

BALLSTON SPA – Mary E. Lyman, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at Saratoga Hospital after a short courageous battle with lung and brain cancer.

Born June 2, 1942 in Gansevoort, she was the daughter of the late Paul J. and Mary (Minnick) Niles.

Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husbands, Paul W. Palmer and Richard Lyman, and a sister in law, Dottie Culligan.

Survivors include her daughters, Patricia Beckwith and her husband, Chuck, Paula Larue and her husband, George, Mary Ann Fuller; sons, Paul Palmer, Jr., and his wife, Connie, Stanley Palmer and his wife, Ruth; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Pauline Carruth and her husband, Floyd; her brothers, Patrick Culligan and his wife, Margie, Theodore Culligan of Baltimore, MD; her special aunt, Gennie Minnick of Cohoes; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mary’s family would like to specially thank the staff of Saratoga Hospital for their care.

There will be no calling hours.

A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

Elizabeth Ann Dammig Irish

IrishKINGSBURY – Elizabeth Ann Dammig Irish, 79, went into the Lord’s arms on September 22, 2014.

Betty was born June 3, 1935, in Springfield, New Jersey to the late Alvin and Elizabeth (McCandless) Dammig. In 1957, she graduated from Russell Sage College in Troy, where she met her future husband who was attending RPI. Betty married Raymond H. Irish on September 14, 1957.

After the births of her four boys, she went back to the nursing profession and worked for Warren County for over 20 years. Betty loved to cook and was known for her pies and sweet breads. She was an excellent artist, a Sunday school teacher, an accomplished bowler and could knock out a tune on the piano. She was a wonderful, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Betty loved spending time with her grandchildren and during the Adirondack Balloon Festival, could be seen trying to coax balloonists to land in her yard.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Alvin Dammig, Jr.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Raymond H. Irish; her sons, Kevin M. Irish of Kingsbury, Michael Raymond Irish and his wife, Kelly of Warrensburg, James Irish and his wife, Lorrie of Hudson Falls, Jeffrey Irish of San Francisco, CA; her granddaughters, Amanda McWherter and her husband Joshua, Elizabeth Rehn and her husband, Whitney; her grandsons, Raymond and Ryan Irish, Shea Irish; and her great grandchildren, Hadley Rehn and Evan Rehn.

John Basher, Sr.

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – John Basher, Sr., 85, of South Glens Falls, passed away with his family at his side, on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at the Glens Falls Hospital, after a short illness.

Born April 22, 1929, in Granville, he was the son of the late George and Anna (Rabic) Basher.

He served with the U.S. Army as a medic.

John retired as a machine operator for General Electric in Fort Edward after many years of service.

He was a longtime member of St. Peter’s/ St. Paul’s Church in Granville and most recently, St. Michael the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls. John was a past member of the Granville Rescue Squad and Fire Department, and also a member of the Granville Knights of Columbus.  He enjoyed gardening, cooking, doing puzzles, shopping and he loved the holidays. Most of all, John enjoyed spending time with his family.

Besides his parents and wife, Theresa Basher, John was predeceased by his daughter, Patricia Lynn Basher, and his siblings, Anne Kepchar, Helen Hritz, Sue Strich, Mary Shinglar, Julia Pekar, Katherine Labas, and George Basher. John is also predeceased by his wonderful, loving companion, Evanna Welsh

Survivors include his daughter, Katherine Barlow and her husband, Richard of Hudson Falls and New Port Richey, FL; his son John Basher, Jr. of South Glens Falls, his grandchildren, Heather Benway and her husband, Matthew Arsenault, Nicholas Basher, Dylan Basher; his great grandchildren, Olivia Grace Arsenault, Aurelia Sage Arsenault; his siblings, Pauline Beretta of Rutland, VT, and Theresa Pacyna of Granville as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Joan Dutcher

DutcherQUEENSBURY – Joan Dutcher, 83, of The Stanton Nursing Home, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2014, at Glens Falls Hospital in Glens Falls, following a short illness.

Born September 24, 1930, in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Lillian (Lane) Wisner.

Joan retired from Mallinckrodt in Argyle after several years.

She resided on Farley Road in Kingsbury and before that was a long time resident of Greenwich. Joan loved being with her family.

Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by her first husband, Robert Dissosway, and her second husband, George Dutcher, as well as her brother John Wisner and her son in law, Joe Stark.

Survivors include her two daughters, Karen Rosick and her husband, David of Kingsbury, Kathy Stark of Kingsbury; her grandchildren, Kristy Rosick, Stacey Rosick, Jason Rosick, Brian Stark, Kevin Stark; her great grandchildren, Tiffany Cenate, Courtney Groom, Alexys Rosick, Damin and Haiden Groom and Johnathan Stark; her brother, Charlie Wisner of Troy; her sister, Ruth Roberts of Cohoes; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service.

Sheridan E. “Butch” Race

RaceFORT EDWARD – Sheridan E. “Butch” Race, 65, of Fort Edward, went into the arms of the Lord, unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at his home.

Born on December 26, 1948, in Amsterdam, he was the son of Olga (Mestek)  Race and the late Sheridan H. Race.

Butch graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1967 and continued his education at SUNY at Albany, where he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees.

On August 21, 1971, he married Diana Rainbow in Hudson Falls.

Butch taught school for 35 years at the Glens Falls School System and he also served as the athletic director at the Glens Falls High School.

He was a member of the New Beginnings Community Church and served as a council member.   Butch also enjoyed bowling and being a baseball umpire.  He loved going to the movies and reading.  Butch was a talented saxophone player and was a member of the Vagabonds.

Besides his father, he was predeceased by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and his father in law and his mother in law.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Diana Race of Fort Edward; his mother, Olga Race; two sons, Rev. Sheridan Race, II and his wife, Marcy of Ticonderoga and Dana Race and his wife, Celine of Royal Palm beach, FL; seven grandchildren, Chelsie, Austin, Jordan, Jakob, Alexis “Lexi” , Caleb and Elizabeth “Lizzy”; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call today, Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the New Beginnings Community Church, on Dix Avenue in Queensbury.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, at the church, with the The Rev. Sheridan Race, II (Butch’s son)and Rev. Randy Gross, pastor, c0-officiating.

Burial will follow at Moss Street Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.

Lorraine R. (Sexton) DuFour

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Lorraine R. (Sexton) DuFour,  passed into the arms of Our Lord at the Home of the Good Shepherd in Moreau on Sunday, September 14, 2014.

Born on February 12, 1920 in Glens Falls Hospital, she was the daughter of the late Jesse M. and Flora S. (St. Pierre) Sexton.

After her family and home, she most loved being outdoors “digging in the dirt” in good weather and thinking about her flower gardens in the winter. She was also a very talented decorative painter and quilter; and lovingly made cloth dolls and teddy bears for her grandchildren and for craft fairs.

Over the years she was frequently employed in retail but especially treasured the years she and her daughter owned and operated a craft shop called Cornucopia Crafts in Montoursville, PA and then in Granville.

In past years, she looked forward to special holidays when she could gather her family in her home and entertain them. Lorraine was a kind, gentle person who was well loved by all who knew her.

Lorraine was predeceased in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Edward Seeley DuFour, who passed away on June 15, 2007; her precious sons, Edward L. DuFour and Ronald P. DuFore , and her siblings, Roderick P. Sexton, Jesse M Sexton Jr., Lionel F. Sexton and Helen M. Brayman.

Survivors include her son, Herb and his wife, Tammy of Granville; her daughter, Maureen of Moreau; her grandchildren, Edward L. DuFour and wife, Diane of Granville, Lisa Wilkinson and her husband, Randy of Malta, Brett DuFour and his companion, Bonnie Lawrence of Granville, Christopher DuFour, Jason DuFour and wife, Sheri, Charise Hoyt and husband, Jerome, all of Connecticut, Cynthia Carpenter and her husband, Michael of Moreau, Michelle Scheetz and her husband, Carl of Oklahoma, Rowdy Paul DuFore and his wife, Kathryn, Ronald Louis DuFore and his wife, all of California, and Nekia Torres and her husband, Mario of Granville; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Home of the Good Shepherd for the attentive and loving care they provided to Lorraine during her stay there.

Mildred Boynton Hartpence

HUDSON FALLS – Mildred Boynton HartpenceHartpence, of Martindale Ave, passed into eternal life on Saturday, September 13, 2014, at home surrounded by her loving family.

 Mildred was born in Jay, on December 29, 1918. She was the daughter of the late Sheldon and Mary (Chabbott) Boynton and the loving wife of the late John J. Hartpence. Mildred was also predeceased by her brother, Edward Boynton of Jay.

 She is survived by her loving children, John (Dorothy) of Scotia, Mary Gordon of Diamond Point, James (Karen) of Carrollton, GA, Timothy (Mary) of Simpsonville, SC and Sue (Jeff) Curren of Diamond Point. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, John and Geoffrey Hartpence, Andrew Gordon, Aaron Hartpence and Warren Curren; her beloved great grandchildren, Benjamin Keppler, Kiera Hartpence and Lily Hartpence; she is also survived by a brother, Sheldon Boynton of Keeseville; her half brother, George (Marilyn) Chabbott of Dover, Delaware; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Emma Nelson of Hudson Falls, whose lifetime devotion and affection held a very special place in Mildred’s hears. This was so very much appreciated by Mildred’s children; Mildred was educated at SUNY Plattsburg and taught Home Economics and Hudson Falls High School for many years.

Mildred will be remembered as a loving, caring woman with great strength of character. Her most cherished moments were times spent with her family, and she especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family unfailingly gathered at her home on holidays for wonderfully meals and cherished time together. She was a stunning example of how to live and die gracefully.

The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to all of her long-time caregivers, with special thanks to Debbie Blackmar, Becky Walsh and Hilda Sprague, for all the care and kindness given to Mildred.

Calling hours will be from 9:30 to 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson F alls

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls at 11 a.m. following the calling hours.

The Rite of Committal will follow at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.
