William O. Robison

RobisonHUDSON FALLS – William O. Robison, 60, of Hudson Falls, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at Glens Falls Hospital, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Born February 17, 1955, in Albany, he was the son of the late Mickey Frommer and Orson Robison, Jr.

He was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School.  For many years he worked for Foster and Wheeler in Hudson Falls.

Bill enjoyed listening to music, especially The Eagles and Allman Brothers.  He also enjoyed playing pool.  Bill was a wonderful father and brother and will be missed.

Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by his grandparents, his niece, Christine Bentley and his best friend, Dakota.

Survivors include his two sons, Kyle and Benjamin Robison, and their mother, Lisa Robison; his sister, Kathy Bentley and her husband, Ed; his nephew, Scott Bentley and his wife, Jennifer; as well as his three great nephews, Scotty, Aiden and Brody Bentley.

It was Bill’s wishes there be no calling hours or service.

Memorial donations may be sent to a charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are under the care of Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.

Christine “Chris” Lillian (Northouse) Keays

Keays, ChrisHUDSON FALLS – Christine “Chris” Lillian (Northouse) Keays, 71, of Pine Street, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 16, 2015, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on December 21, 1943 in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Art and Lillian (Keys) Northouse.

For several years Chris was employed as a home health aide for Washington County.  She loved her patients and they loved her in return.  When Chris retired from the county, she began delivering newspapers in the early morning in Hudson Falls.  Chris was an honest, well read, loving, caring mother and grandmother who will be missed by not only her family, but by everyone she touched.  She was thought by many as the nicest person they ever met.

Chris was an avid sports fan; she especially loved to watch her granddaughter’s soccer games, and the Fort Edward girl’s basketball and softball games.  Her passion was following Duke Basketball and the New York Mets baseball.  She also enjoyed watching all sports on T.V.

Survivors include her two children, Sherry Keays and her special friend, Dan Barber of Hudson Falls, and Jean Keays and her fiancé, Tony Catalfamo of Hudson Falls; her granddaughter, Alexus Catalfamo; Jennifer O’Sick Bower, whom Chris considered her third child; and her four cats.   Chris also had a special bond with Keays family.

Friends may call on Wednesday, from 3 to 6 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.

A celebration of Chris’ life will follow the calling hours, at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Larry Plummer

PlummerHUDSON FALLS – Larry “LP” Plummer, 76, of Maple Street, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, after a long battle with cancer.

Born on September 26, 1938 in Jonesport, Maine, he was the son of the late Clydie Samuelson.

After high school, Larry was very honored to have served his country in the United States Coast Guard.

 On April 5, 1969, Larry married Carol A. McFadden at the United Protestant Church in Fort Ann.  They were married 46 wonderful years.

For many years, he worked numerous millwright jobs, finally retiring from Finch Pruyn Inc. in Glens Falls.

Larry was a proud member of the Hudson Falls American Legion Post 574.    He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting.   Larry also enjoyed scratch offs and gambling at the Racino.   All animals were special to him, especially his cats and three dogs, Pup, Tony and Patches.   The most important part of his life was spending time with his grandchildren.   He adored them and cherished every moment they spent together.  

Besides his father, he was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy Samuelson and his cousin, Carol Ann Paradise.

Survivors include his loving wife, Carol Plummer of Hudson Falls; his children, Tammie (Plummer) Colvin and her husband, Cory of Fort Edward and Brian Plummer of Hudson Falls; his special grandchildren, Sierra Beckwith, Cierra Colvin, Brianna Plummer and Cory Colvin, Jr; his beautiful great grandson, Kymani Beckwith; his brothers, Harland Samuelson and his companion, Rob Wheeler of  Bangor, ME and Clydie Samuelson, Jr. of  Columbia Falls, ME; his sister, Esther Savar and her husband, Michael of Windmoor, PA; and several nieces, nephews and a great nephew.

Friends may call on Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Services will follow the calling hours at 7 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, officiating.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to High Peaks Hospice, 79 Glenwood Ave., Queensbury, NY  12804, because of the wonderful care given by Stacie, Phil, Michelle and staff.

Marjorie “Marge” Layden

Layden1Layden2HUDSON FALLS – Marjorie “Marge” Layden, 84, formerly of North Oak Street, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, Sunday, February 15, 2015, at Fort Hudson Health Care Facility in Fort Edward.

Born on June 27, 1930 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late LeRoy and Margaret (O’Leary) Behan.

Marge was a graduate of St. Mary’s School in Glens Falls and later attended The College of Saint Rose in Albany, where she obtained her Master’s degree in teaching.

On July 11, 1964, she married Leon M. Layden at St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls.

She was employed at Queensbury Central Schools as a business teacher for 12 years. Marge was a wonderful teacher and was loved by her many students. In 1964, she retired from teaching to raise and care for her five sons.  On numerous occasions her family witnessed former students giving her the finest compliment any teacher can receive when they told her she was the “best teacher” they ever had, a sentiment to which her five boys and husband whole heartedly agreed.

Marge was a faithful communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.  She was a member of the New York State Teachers Association and Glens Falls/Hudson Falls Hospital Guild.  Marge also enjoyed reading novels, vacationing in Ogunquit, Maine, socializing with her Bridge Club, and watching her five sons participate in sports.

Beside her parents, Marge was predeceased by her three sisters; Sister Catherine Rosemary Behan of the Dominican Order, Sister Marie Margaret Catherine Behan of the Congregation of St. Joseph, Marcia Austin; and her brother LeRoy F. Behan.

Marge is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, her five sons; David Layden and his wife, Joy of Sterling, MA, Dr. Michael Layden and his wife, Marjorie of Glens Falls, Stephen Layden of Lake George, Mark Layden of Hudson Falls, and Matthew Layden and his wife, Rosina Brooks of Saratoga Springs; her nine grandchildren, Bridgette, Rachael, Brock, Margie, Jacqueline, Sean, Burke, Levi, Brooks; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Marge’s family expresses their sincere gratitude to the staff of Wing A of Fort Hudson Health Care Facility and to Eileen Purdy, Marge’s former home health aide, for the loving care and devotion given to Marge.

There will be no public calling hours.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 23, 2015, at 12 p.m., at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor, officiating.

Rite of Committal will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fort Edward, in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marge can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, New York 12205.

Barbara Ann Dow

DowHUDSON FALLS – Barbara Ann Dow, 67, of Juckett Drive, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Glens Falls Hospital, after a long illness.

Born May 19, 1947, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Marie B. (Brouillette) Fox.

Barbara was a graduate of Hudson Falls School. Following graduation, she began her career at Chase Bag in Moreau, working there for over 17 years. In her later years, she was employed at the Office for the Aging in Fort Edward.

Barbara was a member of the Kingsbury Fire Co. Auxiliary. Years ago, she was a communicant of St. Paul’s Church, formerly of Hudson Falls. Barbara loved playing bingo and usually won. She enjoyed reading on her Kindle and during the summer, sitting on her porch with friends watching the wildlife. Barbara loved all animals. She also cherished her seven grandchildren, worshipping the ground they walked on.
Besides her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her brother, Martin A. Fox.

Survivors include her two children, Jeremy Dow and his companion, Crystal Briere of Glens Falls, and Jackie Dow of Glens Falls; her sister Sandra Fox of Glens Falls; her seven grandchildren, Kodi and Kristopher Corlew, Cora E. Dow, Jordon Michael Dow, Savannah M. Dow, Hailey M. Dow, Jayden N. Campbell; her special friends, Nancy Coffey, Charlene Plude, and Sally Chase Schenk; her in laws, whom she was very fond of, Margie, Bev, Ginny, Jerry, Doug and Ralph; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Friday, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.
The Rite of Committal will be in the spring at St. Paul’s Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.

Edward R. “Ed” Fisher

FisherGLENS FALLS – Edward R. “Ed” Fisher, Sr., 63, of Cooper Street, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, after a long illness, on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center.

Born on April 19, 1951 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Rose Marie Fisher.

Following high school, Ed enlisted in the United States Navy. He loved the Navy because it gave him an opportunity to travel and see the world.

For 27 years, Ed worked for Dave Holderman at The Talk of The Town, as the head chef. He had the best of both worlds; he loved working for Dave and loved cooking. Ed was an avid Yankee fan and also enjoyed bowling and hunting. He especially loved his family and his dogs. He was a devoted family man and was loved dearly by them and all who met him.

Besides his mother, Ed was predeceased by his first wife, Valerie E. Fisher, who passed away on March 21, 1996.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth “Jane” Fisher of Glens Falls; his three children, Edward R. Fisher, Jr. and his wife, Heather of Gansevoort, Jodie Fisher and her fiancé, Dave Archambault of Fort Edward and Michelle Swears and her husband, Phil of Fort Edward; his grandchildren, Tyler, Ayden, and Rylan Swears, Valerie and Everlie Fisher, Morgan Dyer and Robert Stark; his two brothers, Richard Fisher and Michael Celeste; his two sisters, Kimberly Fisher and Tina Straut and her husband, Robert; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dogs.

Ed’s family would like to thank Dr. Kim, the oncology department and emergency room staff at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center for the wonderful, kind and compassionate care given to Ed throughout his stay.

Friends may call on Thursday, from 1 to 3 p.m., and 5 to 7 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.

A funeral service will be conducted, following the calling hours, at 7 p.m., at the funeral home, with The Reverend Donald Shuler, officiating.

Burial will be in the spring at Moss Street Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.

Robert William “Buddy” Carota

CarotaMOREAU – Robert William “Buddy” Carota was born on May 8, 1983, and died the evening of February 14, 2015.

He was the son of Robert Carota Jr. and Wendy Mylott.

Buddy was preceded in death by his grandfather William Mylott.

He leaves behind his sisters Amber and Alyssa and many friends and family.

Buddy will be remembered for his sense of humor and his love for his Grandma Mary and Grandma Sally. He was bighearted and would give to anyone his last dollar if he knew that person needed it. He will be missed by many.

“Rest in peace our “Bud.”

Shirley L. Tucker

(null)ARGYLE – Shirley LaVerne (Collins) Tucker, went home to the God she believed in and trusted all her life, Tuesday morning, February 10, 2015. She passed away peacefully, after a long struggle with severe Alzheimers, at the Washington Center in Argyle, with a caring staff attending.

She was born in the Town of Kingsbury, February 21, 1929 to the late Myrtle Cane Collins and Allen S. Collins. Named by her brother, Homer, she was the fourth of seven children and the first girl.

Growing up in Glens Falls during World War II, she was very touched by the many casualties appearing in the Post Star each day. She cut out pictures, started a memorial scrap book, and prayed for them. She kept a Bible and a flag on top.

When her father went to the Red Cross Bank to give his faithful blood donation, she went with him. Too young to give blood, she asked the attendant “What can I do?” He pointed to an Uncle Sam Buy Bonds poster. She decided to sell bonds. Kresges’ 5 & 10 set up a small table with an adult to oversee and she sold as many as she could for months. The Post Star took her picture at the table with an arrow pointing to her brother, Winfred Collins, in his Army Air Corp uniform. He was on active duty with the 58th Air Service Group in the midst of the Asian Warfront, General MacArthur’s Zone. The arrow read “She Helps Him.” He came home safely and with distinction.

Shirley was active in the Girl Scouts, sang in the choir at the First Baptist Church on Maple St., where her son, John, now belongs. She was on the bowling Team in High School and got awesome scores, some making the sports section.

She graduated from Glens Falls High School, Class of 1947, and one week later, married her former late husband, William J. Tucker, Jr., started a family and moved to a farm.
She had a setback when a fire totally demolished their farm house in Ft. Miller and they lost everything, including pictures, yearbooks, her precious memorial scrapbook and all belongings.

Several years later, she suffered a stroke at Binch’s and had to retire on disability.

Shirley loved driving new cars, camping and travelling with good friend, Margaret Labosier and all their kids, the Argyle Presbyterian Church, the camp at Lake Cossayuna, her pet dogs, the color yellow, the annual Collin’s reunion picnic with all the people she loved, sewing crafts, making mac and cheese, Frank Sinatra, voting Democrat and most of all her three children, granddaughter and two great granddaughters.

She is survived by her children, John W. Tucker, Maurice Tucker and Jeanne Dashnaw; her granddaughter, Jennifer Disch; her great granddaughters, Emileigh and Hayleigh Disch; her sister, Jean McGregor Kelleher; her half sister, Telesa J. Collins; her sister in law, Leona L. Collins; her nieces, Diane M. Ellmers, Pamela M. Labrum, Jodie L. Chandler, Gail Collins, Patricia Burch and Kathleen A. Smith; her nephews, Douglas E. Collins, Ronald W. Collins, Michael Eugene Collins, Bruce P. McGregor, Brian P. McGregor, Brett A. McGregor, Tony Chandler and Earl Michael Collins.

She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Homer E. Collins, Winfred A. Collins, Donald L. Collins, Vernon W. Collins, Earl R. Collins; her sisters in law, Lela F. Collins, Dawn D. Collins and Jane Collins, her brothers in law, Peter B. McGregor and David D. Kelleher, her nephews, Donald W. Collins and Shannon Chandler and her niece, Traccee Chandler.

A Graveside Service will be conducted in the spring at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Arrangements are under the care of Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

The last time Shirley was able to speak to family, she said, “I want to go to HEAVEN.” By the grace of God Shirley, the gates will open wide, you will meet Jesus and Loved Ones-waiting inside! We love you, the Family.

Margaret J. Huff

GRANVILLE – Margaret J. Huff, 79, of Granville, passed away, peacefully at the Glens Falls Hospital on Friday, February 13, 2015.

Born on November 11, 1935, in Palmerton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Rev. George E. and Alice (Bartholomew) Huff, Sr..

After graduation, Margaret attended Adirondack Community College, working towards her degree in nursing. Following college, she joined the Army and was stationed in Germany. She finished her military career at the Pentagon in Washington DC, retiring in 2008.

Margaret was a devout Catholic. Along with her religion, her family was extremely important to her. She was a very private person, who adored her three brothers.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her three brothers, Eldon Huff, Robert Huff and George Huff and three nephews, David C. Huff, Robert Huff and Edward Huff.

She is survived by her sister in law, Shirley A. Huff of Hudson Falls; her nieces and nephews, Susan Huff of Hudson Falls, Diane and Walter Combs of Glens Falls, Tim and Chris Huff of Gansevoort, George Huff of Buffalo and Chris and Michael Huff of Hudson; and several great nieces and nephews.

The Rite of Committal with full military honors will be in the spring at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Her family would like to thank the nurses on ICU at the Glens Falls Hospital, for the compassionate care given to Margaret.

Harry “Bud” Moon

MoonQUEENSBURY – Harry “Bud” Moon, 92, of Sweet Road, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at the Glens Falls Hospital, with his wife by his side.

Born on August 23, 1922, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Harry and Lillian (Havern) Moon.

Bud attended Hudson Falls High School, until he joined the US Army during World War II.   As a Private, he was a AAA Gun crewman, serving in the European and African Theatres.   Bud was awarded several commendations during his military career.   The greatest day of his life was taking the Leatherstocking honor flight to Washington D.C., where he along with others, visited the World War II Memorial.   Bud also was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, where he flew rescue missions over the Adirondacks.   Bud was an excellent pilot who loved owning his own plane.

He married the love of his life, Natalie Ives at the Glens Falls United Methodist Church.  They have spent 25 wonderful years together.

For over 30 years, he worked Scott Paper as a machine mechanic.

Bud had a deep love for animals, he especially cherished his dogs and cats.   He loved to travel, especially his trips to Alaska.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his children, Robert Moon and Maureen Belden and his brothers, William Moon, George Moon, Danny Moon, Don Moon and Robert Moon.

Survivors include his loving wife and friend, Natalie (Ives) Moon of Queensbury; his son, Gary Moon of Florida; his grandchildren, Krista Cherry, Jennifer Cherry, Reagen Moon, Tyler Moon, Ashley Moon and Amy Moon; his step daughters, Tracy Arredondo, Renee Ives, Debora Martin and Michelle Tucker; several step grandchildren, especially Daniel Breeyear, who helped him out over the last few years; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call today, Friday, February 13, 2015,  from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Burial will be in the spring at Southside Cemetery in the town of Moreau.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to SPCA, P.O. Box 171, Hudson Falls, NY 12839.   Bud felt that flowers should be left in the gardens, not picked.

Elaine Alice Keays

KeaysGANSEVOORT – Elaine Alice Keays, 89, a longtime Gansevoort resident, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at Fort Hudson Health Care Facility in Fort Edward.

Our much beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Elaine Alicia Keays (Garnsey) of Gansevoort, passed away peacefully Tuesday February 10th at the age of 89.

Elaine was born on February 25th 1925, to the late Benjamin Garnsey and Delta Garnsey (Champoux). Her mother passed away nearly a year after her birth so she was taken in by family and raised  on a small dairy farm in Northumberland . She flourished on “The Farm” and had many fond memories that her stories could attest to.

In her early years, Elaine loved to dance. She would attend many “Barn” dances held throughout Northumberland and the Washington County area. At one of those fateful dances she met the love of her life, John “Skipper” Keays. World War Two broke out not too long after they met. Elaine spent these years caring for her “Ma and Pa” on the farm and working at the Watervliet Arsenal, but always waiting to be reunited with her beloved Skipper. John and Elaine were married April 28th, 1946.

She had many loves throughout her life but none as important as her family. She thrived raising and caring for her four children, eight grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren. She wouldn’t stop with just immediate family though. Friends and friends of her family were always welcomed with an open heart and usually left with a full belly. In her later years she enjoyed going for rides with Skipper, garage sale-ing, and putting around the yard.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband John J. Keays and sister Donna Leonard.

She is survived by her sister Doris Ross, her beloved children, David Keays and his wife, Joyce of Gansevoort, John “Jack” Keays of Deerefield Beach Fl., Donna Keays of South Glens Falls, and Paul Keays and his wife, Deborah of Hudson Falls; her loving grandchildren Christian Keays and his wife, Becci, Meaghan Smith and her husband, Chris, Terry Keays and his partner, Andrea Leombruno, Kimberlee Keays-Loffler and her fiancé, Rob Phelps, Wesley Keays and his wife, Erica, Joelle Russo, Jeffery Keays, and Pauly Keays. She is also survived by her fourteen great grandchildren and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Calling hours will be held from 10-11:30am at Carleton Funeral home, Inc., 68 Main Street, Hudson Falls.

A prayer will be said for Elaine at 11:30 on Tuesday, following the calling hours, with the Reverend Thomas Babiuch, officiating.

This will be followed by a burial at 2 p.m.  at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. A small celebration of her life will follow.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Fort Hudson Nursing home for their compassionate care over the last few months. We would also like to give heartfelt thanks to her immediate family that made it possible for her to remain home for as long as possible.

Olivia Irene Crosse

CrosseCORINTH – Olivia Irene Crosse, infant daughter of Adam and Lea (Thompson) Crosse, went into the arms of the Lord while entering this world on Friday, February 6, 2015, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

“Dearest Olivia, please know that our greatest blessing was having you.”

Heaven’s gain was our loss when our angel was called by our Lord.

Olivia was a miracle two and a half years in the making.  She will be remembered by all that saw her for her breathtaking beauty.

Olivia was welcomed into heaven by her maternal great grandfather, LeRoy Elman, great grandparents, Harold and Frances Thompson, and her paternal great great grandparents, Claude and Velma Everts.

In addition to her parents, Adam and Lea Crosse of Porters Corners, she is survived by her half sister, Juliannah Crosse; her maternal grandparents, Brenda and Larry Thompson of Schuylerville; her paternal grandparents, Jeff Crosse of Greenwich and Daniel and Chris Cromwell of Selkirk; her maternal great grandmother, Shirley Elman of Middletown; and her paternal great grandparents, Brian and Val McKinney of Queensbury; her cousin Lexi Sue and aunt Heather Thompson of South Glens Falls, uncle Kyle Thompson of Schuylerville and aunt Ashley (Crosse) Masten and her husband Andrew of Fort Edward

Friends may call on Saturday, February 21, 2015, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Graveside services will be private in the spring at Southside Cemetery in South Glens Falls.
