Edward G. Ellithorpe, Jr.

EllithorpeKINGSBURY – Edward G. Ellithorpe, Jr., 84, of Kingsbury passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, at his home on Sunday, April 5, 2015.

Born on May 23, 1930, in Hudson Falls, he was the son of the late Edward G. and Mildred (Wells) Ellithorpe, Sr. Ed was raised in Wilton New York.

He served in the Korean War in the United States Army, until he was honorably discharged and he retired from the New York State Department of Canals.

Ed’s enjoyments included his family, his farm, hunting, fishing, gardening and family camping trips. He stayed active in his retirement years on his farm and was a well known as a pig and poultry farmer, who enjoyed entering his poultry in the Washington County Fair, taking his grandchildren to the animal auctions.  Ed enjoyed telling a tall tail and good prank with his family and friends.

He was a founding member of the Chippewa Hunting Club (where he shot his record buck), Cardinals Rock Hunting Club and Fancy Feather Assoc.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his grandson Joshua Ellithorpe and his brothers and sisters Hubert, Donald and Max Ellithorpe, Beatrice Dey and Margaret Porter.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Beverly (Webster) Ellithorpe of Kingsbury; his children Linda (Dave Parker) of Queensbury, Steven (Terry) Ellithorpe of Arkansas, Joan (Kevin) Nassivera of Hudson Falls, Edward (Laurie ) Ellithorpe of Argyle and Lee (Kim ) Ellithorpe of Ava, NY; his grandchildren Tricia Stevens, Jason (Stacie) Parker, Jeni & Micheal Ellithorpe, Jeremy (Allison) and Brittany Nassivera, Kevin, Brian and Erin Ellithorpe, Jennifer Patton, Jason, Kable (Sarah) & Shane Ellithorpe; and numerous great grandchildren; and his sister, Marilyn (Allie) Swears of Fortsville; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Ed’s life will take place with a gathering from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Adamsville Baptists Church in Adamsville, followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m. Wednesday evening at the church.

Interment, at the convenience of the family will take place at Moss Street Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.

MeadeSOUTH GLENS FALLS – Theodore F. Meade, 86, of South Glens Falls, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2015.

Born on July 27, 1928, in Hudson Falls, he was the son of the late Claude F. and Helen (Stalker) Meade.

Ted attended Hudson Falls School.  He then served his country during World War II in the United States Army.

On July 25, 1948, he married Betty J. Dickinson at the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church.  She passed away on March 2, 2002, after 53 years of marriage.

He worked for NIBCO for 34 years, until his retirement.

Ted enjoyed golfing, snowmobiling, bowling and NASCAR.  Most of all, Ted loved his family.

Others who predeceased him were his dad, Harold Stanton and his brothers John F. Meade and William Stanton.

Ted is survived by his six children, Donna Palmer and her husband, Ralph of Queensbury, Daniel Meade and his wife, Linda of Palm Bay, Fl, Christine Lyons and her husband, Nelson of Hudson Falls, Peggy Mattison and her husband Gary of Moreau, Michael Meade and his wife, Helen of Corinth and Peter Meade and his wife, Marie of Efland, NC; Thirteen grandchildren, Dawn Lyons Gosline, Daniel Meade, Jr., Theodore S. Meade, Denise Lyons Sundin, Desmond Lyons, Shawn Palmer, Christopher Mattison, Jamie Mattison Stratton, Brian Palmer, John Meade, Tiffany Meade Garnsey, Heather A. Meade and Mark F. Meade; 20 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; his sisters, Alice “Betty” Viger and her husband, Al of Easton, Jeanne VanAcker and her husband, Ed of East Greenbush and Mary Martuscello of Glens Falls; his sisters in law, Rita Porteous of Fort Ann, Sarah “Sally” Gleason of South Glens Falls, Virginia “Ginny” Hill of Fenimore and Linda Stanton of Queensbury; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At his request , services will be private.

Ted’s family would like to give special thanks to the staff on B Wing at the Fort Hudson Health Care Facility for their compassionate care of Ted and his family.

Edward J. Dalpe, Jr.

DalpeSOUTH GLENS FALLS – Edward J. Dalpe, Jr., 66 of South Glens Falls, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2015, at the Albany Veterans Hospital after a short illness.

Born January 29, 1949 in Montreal, Canada, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Agnes (Markos) Dalpe, Sr.,

Edward proudly served his country in the United States Marines and served in Vietnam in 1970.  He was a correctional officer at Great Meadows Correctional Facility in Comstock for 15 years.

He enjoyed going fishing, bowling, computers, and spending time with his dogs.  His family says he was a very generous man who would help anyone one in need.  He was a loving father, grandfather, husband, uncle and friend.

Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Carlise Brown-Dalpe of South Glens Falls; one son, Jason Dalpe and his wife, Christina of Watervliet ; his step daughter, Theresa Campbell and her husband, Kenneth of Fargo, ND; his step son, Jeremy Brown and his wife, Jill of Minot, ND; his step daughter, Candi Ziegler and her husband, Jason of Minot, ND; his step son, Michael Brown and his wife, Heather of Brighton, CO; seven grandchildren, Jordan Dalpe, Rachael Brown, Carlie Brown, Toben Baker, Derek Hess, Jordan Brown and Rylie Brown; his great granddaughter, Andrea Davis; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Friends may call Monday, April 13, 2015, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

The funeral service will follow the calling hours at 12:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Burial will take place at 2 p.m., on Monday, April 13, 2015 at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in the town of Stillwater.

Anna Mae “Ann” Leary

Leary1Leary2HUDSON FALLS – Anna Mae “Ann” Leary, 91, a longtime resident of Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, March 29, 2015, at the Home of The Good Shepherd in Moreau.

Born on December 26, 1923, in Cossayuna, she was the daughter of the late William and Clara (Clough) Stewart.

Her husband, Jeremiah Francis Leary died in 1965.

Ann was a seamstress at Merkel and Gelman and JoMar, both formerly located in Glens Falls.  She was a talented seamstress who did many sewing jobs out of her home, for local friends.

Ann was a member of the First Baptist Church in Glens Falls and an avid bowler in many area bowling alleys.  She loved being a secretary for many bowling leagues.   Most of all, Ann enjoyed trout fishing in Canada and the time spent with her children and her adored grandchildren, who were all her favorites.

Ann was a strong willed, independent woman, who fiercely raised her children to follow in her footsteps.  She was a quick witted, sarcastic lady with a beautiful sense of humor, which she also passed on to her children.

In addition to her husband and parents, Ann is predeceased by her sisters, Doris Blagg, Shirley King, Irene Bean, Charlotte McKuen and Gloria Goodrich and her brothers, Ernest Stewart, Edward Stewart and Walter Stewart.

Survivors  include her children, Thomas Tucker, of Denver, CO, Terrance Tucker of CA, Anna Mae Sawyer of Rock Hill, NY, Geraldine Leary of Phoenix, AZ, Bryan Stewart Leary of Appleton WI, Christie Leary and his wife, Kathi of Windsor, VT and Laura Smith of Phoenix, AZ; her grandchildren, Maureen Sawyer, Kerri Sawyer, Nicholas Leary, Alexandria Leary, Terry Tucker, II, Jeff Tucker and Shannon Tucker; her brother, Clifford Stewart and his wife, Janet, of Greenwich and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Thursday, April 2, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will follow the calling hours at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Sandra Spaulding, pastor of Lakeville Baptist Church in Cossayuana, officiating.

Burial will be in the spring at Union Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank Liz Alger, who gave Ann amazing dedication, support, love and care for the past eight years.

Marie L. (Giroux) Jarvis

JarvisGANSEVOORT – Marie L. (Giroux) Jarvis, 72, of Gansevoort, went into the arms of the Lord, after a long illness, on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Saratoga Hospital.

Born on November 18, 1942 in Ludlow, Mass, she was the daughter of the late Philip R. and Rose C. (Wicks) Giroux.

Marie attended Greenwich High School where she graduated with her lifelong friends, Connie Owens and Marlene McLean.   

On August 4, 1973, she married Donald Jarvis in South Glens Falls. They enjoyed 41 wonderful years together.

At one time, Marie worked for New York State in the Taxation and Finance Department and then later for Sherwood Medical in South Argyle.  Marie retired from General Electric in Fort Edward, after 22 years of service.

She loved listening to country and western music and enjoyed visiting the Saratoga Casino and shopping.    Her most enjoyable time was spent with her grandchildren, her family and her beloved Chihuahua’s, Snowflake and Buttercup.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Debra Wells, Rachael Angier and Esther Bailey and a special sister, Linda Giroux; and her great grandson, Jayden Youmans.

Survivors include her loving husband, Donald Jarvis of Gansevoort; her six children, Robin (Loomis) Peltier and her husband, Steve of Greenwich, Brenda (Loomis) Donah and her husband, Brian of Gansevoort, William Loomis and his wife to be, Kimberley Relyea of Saratoga Springs, Karen Jarvis of Gansevoort, Tammy Jarvis and her husband to be, Michael Moseman of Greenfield Center and Donna Jarvis and her fiancé, Michael Huffner of Salem; two brothers, Philip Robert Giroux, Jr. and William Giroux both of Gansevoort ; two sisters, Rose Della Bull of Ballston Spa and Lois Giroux of South Glens Falls; 17 grandchildren, including “my boy” Greg Youmans; and one great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery in Stillwater.

Jay E. Stone

Stone, JayHUDSON FALLS – Jay E. Stone, 81, of Hudson Falls passed away on Friday, March 20, 2015, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on March 7, 1934, he was the son of the late Jay C. Stone and Madeline (Clark) Stone Dineen and his stepfather, John Dineen.

Jay and his brother, Marshall, enlisted in the United States Air Force on October 5, 1952.  He served four years, two which were in Japan.  In 1956, he was honorably discharged.

He married Lisa M. Maxam Merriam in 1989 and loved her dearly until his death.

His last employment was as a driver for Nemer Chrysler/Dodge of Queensbury.  He had been a truck driver for 34 years, having worked for Fort Edward Express for 22 years.  For 12 years he lived in Chicago, IL, where he drove truck for the Illinois Central Railroad.

Jay was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.  He was an active member of the church serving three years on the Parish Council.  He was a Eucharistic Minister and President of the Usher’s Association for many years. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and a Fourth Degree Knight in the Monsignor Arthur S. Kiffen Assembly.  He was a past Grand Knight and Deputy Grand Knight and Recorder of Council #296, in Hudson Falls.

He loved to fish and play golf with his brother, Marshall.  You could most likely see the two of them having breakfast together at the Broadway Diner in Fort Edward or Peter’s Diner on South Street. Jay was an avid Yankee’s fan and watched almost every game on TV.

In addition to his parents, Jay was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Stone, who passed away at the age of 8 years old.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa J. Maxam Stone, of Pottersville; his four sons, Matthew Miller, Mark Miller and Christopher Stone, all of Clearwater, Florida and Jonathan Stone of Albany; four stepchildren; his brother, Marshall Stone and his wife Ann of Glens Falls; his two grandchildren living in Florida; a great grandson in Florida; his three nephews, Stephen Stone and his wife, Shelly of Thief River Falls, MN, Ronald Stone and his wife, Lori of Queensbury and Robert Stone of Queensbury; as well as his two nieces, Marsha Stone of Glens Falls and Melissa Johnson and her husband, Steve of Queensbury.

A Funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, at 3 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls, with the Reverend Thomas Babiuch, officiating.

Memorial donations in memory of Jay may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

 

Richard W. Michon

MichonKINGSBURY – Richard W. Michon, 87, of Kingsbury, was born of Polish parents on August 16, 1927, in Schenectady.  He passed away peacefully en route from the Indian River Nursing home to the Glens Falls Hospital Renal Center on Monday, March 23, 2015, just before noon.

Dick was a graduate of Siena College, and then served his country, in World War II, in the United States Navy as a Company Commander.

His business career was in the field of Insurance for many years.  Upon retirement, he began a second career growing fruits and vegetables, and then moved on to becoming a “Master Gardener”, raising beautiful blooms and plants to the envy of many.  His floral reputation spread both in and out of the Hudson Falls area.

His wife, Jeanne, to whom he was married for 49 years, passed away in 2000.  Together they raised five children, Claire, the oldest, passed away in 2012.  Survivors include his children, Kevin, Claudia, Keith, his wife Kathy and Craig.  They cherish the memories along with six grandchildren, Sarah Brunelle, Trisha Maynard, Lee Loffler and his wife, Nicole, Melissa Michon, Jessica Michon and Marissa Michon.  Also surviving is his wife, Dorothy, whom he married in 2002; a niece, Kim Kehl and two nephews, Mark Michon and Bryan Michon.

Special thanks to all who helped, in anyway, to ease the pain of sickness and be of comfort to Dick, Dorothy and the family during Dick’s long suffering illness.  So many friends gave us strength.  Most specially a loyal and devoted friend, Ed Gordon and his family, Lee Potvin, Ed LaPoint, John Call, Nannette Loffredo, Ines Polito, Joyce and Clarence Bruno and his faithful transporters to and from dialysis three times a week, Tom and Joanne Cummings.  To Dr. Joseph Mihindu and his wife, Elaine, Dr. Patrick Rowley and his team, Sean, Mark and nurse, Elan, Dr. Robert Reeves, a most sincere “thank you” for your care and dedication that carried Dick through many a battle.

Last, but not least, to all the nurses on Tower 6 and 3W of Glens Falls Hospital, along with the nurses at Glens Falls Hospital Renal Centers, special thanks for your compassion and care.  Also to the team from HCR – Gail, Dan, Grace, Sherry and Penny, many thanks for all your efforts.

As per Dick’s request, there will be no calling hours.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated, 11 am on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at St. Michael the Archangel Church in South Glens Falls with the Reverend James Barry Lonergan, officiating.

All are welcome to a reception in the fellowship hall at the church, following the Funeral Mass.

Burial will take place in the late spring at St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.

Theresa M. Mayotte

MayotteHUDSON FALLS – Theresa M. Mayotte, 93, a long time Hudson Falls resident, and most recently of Fort Edward, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2015, at her home.

Born on February 22, 1922, in Hudson Falls, she was the daughter of the late John P. and Charlotte (Patterson) Higgins

Theresa was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School and for many years served as the manager of the school lunch program for the Hudson Falls school system.

On September 29, 1940, she married Donald R. Mayotte at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hudson Falls.  He passed away September 18, 1990.

She was a member of Tee Bird Country Club, the Hudson Falls Branch of the Glens Falls Hospital Guild where she recently received her 40 years of service pin and also was a member of the “Red Hats.”

Theresa enjoyed skiing, bowling and golfing into her late 80’s. She specially enjoyed time spent with her family.  She had such a love for people and was happy to always leave her friends with a smile.

While living in Queensbury, she attended Our Lady of the Annunciation Church and when in Hudson Falls, she was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she is predeceased by her brothers, Charles, Wilfred, Donald and James Higgins and her sister, Kathleen O’Brien.

Survivors include one son, George Mayotte and his wife Nancy of Chesapeake, VA; two daughters, Kathleen Maynes of Syracuse and Susan Whittemore and her husband, Phil, of Queensbury; her six grandchildren Todd Mayotte and his wife Wendy, Amy Mayotte, Sean Costello and his wife Laurie, Eric Costello and his wife Melanie, Sarah Matte and her husband Christopher Ryan Doyle and his companion Sarah Flower; her seven great-grandchildren Alden Mayotte, Isabel Costello, Carter Costello, Drew Costello, Kate Costello, Bailey Matte, Charlotte Doyle; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, on the park, in Hudson Falls with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will take place at the convenience of the family at St. Paul’s Cemetery on Vaughn Rd in the town of Kingsbury.

Mecleta Elizabeth (Dunning) Waite

WaiteKINGSBURY – Mecleta Elizabeth (Dunning) Waite, 82, of Waite Road, died Sunday, March 22, 2015, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

She was born May 20, 1932, in Lake George the daughter of  the late John and Olia Mae (Feathers) Dunning.

She was a 1950 graduate of the Lake George High School and on July 1, 1950 she married Robert L. Waite. Bob died August 12, 1990. Three sons, Michael Edward, Peter David and Jamie Bruce  Waite also died before her.

Survivors include her daughter, Sheila Salisbury and her husband Edward of Kingsbury; two sons,  Daniel Waite of Kingsbury and Gordon Waite of Cornville, Arz.; her grandchildren, Lisa Smalley and her husband, Doug, Rhonda Rosick and her husband, Dale, Elizabeth Waite, Nicholas Waite and his wife Michelle and Steven Waite and his companion Ashlee; her great-grandchildren, Devon Rosick, Richard Rosick and Jack Smalley; her brother in law James  DeLarm of Hague; her sister Marcia Meyers and her husband Dean of Granville; several  nieces and nephews a daughter in law, Donna Waite of Kingsbury; and her special friend, Cemo Vaughn of Kingsbury.

Friends may call   from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

The Fort Edward Rescue Squad will pay respects at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and the Kingsbury Volunteer Hose Company will pay their respects at the funeral home at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. 

Funeral services will be conducted   at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m.

Joan E. (Loding) McCarty

McCartyFORT EDWARD – Joan E. (Loding) McCarty, 73, of Caputo Ave, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 15, 2015, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born February 26, 1942, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late J. John and Bernice M. (LaMere) Loding.  She was a direct descendent of William Bradford, the first governor of Plymouth Colony, 1620.

Joan was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School and later in her life, continued her education taking insurance courses in Syracuse.

Following high school she worked at Glens Falls Hospital in the medical records office.  After working at the hospital for a few years, Joan took time off to raise her son, Michael.   When Michael was older, she returned to insurance school in Syracuse and worked out of her home selling insurance.   Joan was a busy lady.  She also worked at area stores, such as Lewis’ Groceries and Cumberland Farms.   For over 30 years, Joan worked part time at the Hudson Falls Free Library.  She made many friends selling Avon for around 20 years.  At one time, Joan was an administrative assistant at Washington County Historical Society for over 15 years.   Lastly, for the past 40 years, Joan was a proud election inspector in District 1 in Fort Edward.   She loved this job because Joan was a people person and as an inspector she was able to see her friends and meet new people.

She loved her cats and was an avid reader, she loved reading anything but preferred fiction. Joan loved listening to Elvis Presley and collected anything and everything on Elivis.  She was a history buff, like her brother, Paul  and a friend to everyone she met.

Survivors include her son, Michael McCarty of Fort Edward; her brother, Thomas J. Loding and his wife, Linda of Glens Falls, Paul R. Loding of Hudson Falls; her three nephews, Tom Loding, John Loding and Jason Loding; as well as her four cousins and many wonderful friends.

Friends may call on Saturday, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.

Prayers will be offered following the calling hours, at 4 p.m., on Saturday at the funeral home.

Donald Robert Keech, Jr.

KeechLARGO, FL – Donald Robert Keech, Jr., 46, of Largo, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2015 at home beside his loving family after a long courageous fight with cancer.

He was born in Argyle to his loving parents, Donald and Marilyn Keech.

His beloved daughter, Victoria Keech, who will carry on his legacy, and beloved friend and former wife, Lisa Walsh, survive him. As well as his sister, Joanne Wood of Fort Edward and brother-in-law, Byron, and niece, Jaime, his honorary brother, David Regner, Godmother, Shawn Jones and Godfather, Albert McNall, aunts and uncles of Hudson Falls and Troy, and all of his very close and special family and friends.

His respective family and friends knew Donald as “Toby” in New York and as “Donny” in Florida. He was a friend to everyone and was the first one to send an encouraging word. Donald graduated from Argyle Central High School in 1986 and Hudson Valley in 1988. He was a hard worker and enjoyed working in the automotive industry and created his own company as an insurance adjuster. Donald loved country music, camping and automobiles. Donny enjoyed NASCAR and went to Daytona International Speedway for 15 years twice a year camping on the infield with his “race family.”

The viewing will be before the funeral on Saturday, March 21, 2015 from 9:00 until 10:30 AM at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St, Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at St. Mary/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls, with Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor, officiating.

A Reception will follow the Funeral Mass at the American Legion Post 574, 72 Pearl Street in Hudson Falls.

A future memorial service will be celebrated in Florida at a later date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Donald’s name to Suncoast Hospice Foundation, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater, FL 33760, or the American Legion Post 574, 72 Pearl St., Hudson Falls, NY 12839.

PhillipsFORT EDWARD – Ernesta M. “Mert” Phillips, 65, of Burgoyne Avenue, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on February 17, 1950 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Margaret (Phelps) Phillips, Sr.

Mert enjoyed going to garage sales and spending time with the love of her life, Clifford “Bud” Hammond.  She also was an avid collector of Betty Boop and Elvis memorabilia.

Besides her parents, Mert was predeceased by her brothers, Ernest “Putt” Phillips, Jr., Charles Phillips, Sr., Earl Phillips, Sr. and Robert Phillips; and her sisters, Sylvia St. John and Priscilla Passino.

Survivors include her companion, Clifford “Bud” Hammond; three sons, Edward Hammond and his late wife, Lorraine, David Hammond and John Hammond and his wife, Sandy; three daughters, Mary Betanzos and her husband, Ricardo, Joann Park and her husband, Jeff and Cathy Foster and her husband, Fred; her three brothers, Edward Phillips and his wife, the late Glenda Burdo, Dennis Phillips and his wife, Naomi and Jerry “Joe” Phillips and his companion, Lois; her sisters, Betty Coda, Margaret Rawlin and Patricia Reed; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Friday from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral Services will follow the calling hour at 4 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, offficiating.

Helen H. Sutliff

Sutliff, HelenGLENS FALLS – Helen H. Sutliff, 86, of Glens Falls, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2015 at the Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on September 25, 1928 in New Russia, NY,  she was the daughter of the late William and Florence (Ellsworth) Daha.

On June 5, 1946, Helen married Raymond M. Sutliff at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson Falls.  They were married 62 wonderful years, when he passed away on March 16, 2009.

Helen had many interests throughout her life.  In her younger years, she loved to bowl and was quite good at it, winning several trophies.  Helen also enjoyed watching wrestling and working on word search books to keep her mind active.   At one time, she taught a ceramics class, where she shared her talent of working with ceramics.  She was also was a wonderful seamstress and a creator of beautiful quilts she made for her grandchildren.  Everyone in her family has at least one item that she made with love, for them.  Although Helen did many things in her life, her center was her family.   She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, who will be missed.

Besides her parents and husband, Helen was predeceased by her two daughters, Lorraine St. Clair and Linda Steves; her son in law, Wesley Steves; and her three grandsons, Timothy Royce, Gary Steves and Lewis Smith.

Survivors include her two daughters, Donna Layton and her husband, Bruce of Fort Edward and Carol Russell and her husband, Wade of Queenbury; her two sons, Wesley Sutliff and his wife, Tonia of Lake George and Scott Sutliff of Glens Falls; several grandchildren; many great grandchildren; her brother in law, Donald Sutliff of Fort Edward; her son in law, John St. Clair of Argyle; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Helen’s family wishes to thank the staff on Tower 2 at the Glens Falls Hospital and also Dr. Eric Pillemer for the special care and compassion given to Helen during her illness.

Friends may call on Thursday, March 19, 2015 from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2015 at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls, with Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will be in the spring at Pine View Cemetery in the town of Queensbury.
