Ruth C. Armando

FORT EDWARD – Ruth Cook Armando, 84, formerly of Bascom Drive, went into the arms of the Lord, on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at the Fort Hudson Health Care Facility.

Born on June 24, 1930, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Lillian (Sheffield) Cook.

Ruth graduated from Fort Edward High School in 1947.

For 14 years, she worked at Hannaford’s Grocery Store on Quaker Road in Queensbury.

After leaving Fort Edward in 1996, Ruth moved to South Glens Falls for six years and then in 2002 to her G. Roswell Earl High Rise apartment in Hudson Falls.

She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Fort Edward.

Through the years, she won a number of trophies for golfing which was a great enjoyment that made her very proud.  Her most valued time was spent with children and grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Carolyn Wilsey.

Survivors include her son, David J. Armando and his wife, Joan of Fort Edward; two daughters, Kim A. Armando of South Glens Falls and Laurie J. Jandolenko and her husband, Greg of Plattsburgh; eight grandchildren, David Armando of Bolton Landing, Jeff, Kristen and Mollie Armando, all of Fort Edward, Tiana Armando and Jesse McDonald, both of South Glens Falls, Nikki Zupan of Chandler, Arizona and Eric Zupan of Philadelphia, PA., her great granddaughter, Lyllei Ryane;  her sister,  Mary Ellen Bowe of Hudson Falls; a brother, Clifford Cook and his wife, Marlene of Fort Edward; her brother in law, Carl Wilsey of Schoharie;  several nieces and nephews; and one cousin.

Friends may call from 10 to 12:00 p.m. , (Noon) on Monday , May 11, 2015 at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Service will follow the calling hours at 12:00 p.m., (Noon) on Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will follow at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Ruth’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Fort Hudson Health Care Facility for all their compassion and care given to her over the past several years.

Lester W. Gaulin

Gaulin, LesterHUDSON FALLS – The beloved patriarch of the Gaulin family in Hudson Falls, Lester W. Gaulin, 93, has returned to his creator following a long convalescence.

A veteran of WWII, as well as a former prisoner of war, he served his country bravely before returning home to start a family with his wife of 70 years, the recently departed Charlotte Gaulin.

He grew up on Lower Allen St. across from the Sandy Hill Iron and Brass Works where he worked as a machinist until his retirement.

His parents, Florence Turcotte-Gaulin and Hormidas Gaulin, have long been passed away. His only brother Leonard also passed away recently. He is survived by his four sons James, Thomas, Keith, and David all of whom live in the area with the exception of David who lives in Boston, as well as five grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

He was a quiet, kind man with a great sense of humor and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that any donations be made in his name to any Alzheimer’s Foundation

He will be interred at the Saratoga National Cemetery in the town of Stillwaterat 10:30 a.m. _ on Friday, May 8, 2015, where a graveside ceremony will be held celebrating his life and his reunification with his beloved wife Charlotte.

The family will never be the same without his calm, steady presence but we are comforted knowing that he no longer suffers the ravages of old age and is in Heaven with those who passed before him. May he rest in peace.

James R. Quartiers

QuartiersSOUTH GLENS FALLS – James R. Quartiers, 66, of South Glens Falls, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2015.

Born March 5, 1949, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Clifford and Elsie (McAuley) Quartiers.

He was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School.  For many years, James worked for Clyde’s Laundromat and the Adirondack Nautilus.

James loved the Giants football team and Yankees baseball team.  He enjoyed playing Bingo and especially spending time with his family and friends.

Besides his parents, James was predeceased by his sister, Catherine I. Robbins, and his great nephew, Cameron Jace Quartiers.

Survivors include his brothers, Joseph Quartiers and his wife, Brenda of South Glens Falls, Clifford Quartiers and his wife, Mary of Queensbury; his sister, Rita Trybendis and her husband, Stephen of Hudson Falls; his nieces and nephews, Joseph Quartiers, Richard Quartiers and his companion, Mercedes, Robert Quartiers and his wife, Laura, Jason Quartiers and his wife, Sara, Kristina Hubert and her husband, Jason, Amber Mallaney and her companion, Todd Bapp II, Travis Mallaney; his brother in law, Edwin G. Robbins of South Glens Falls; as well as several great nieces and great nephews.

Friends may call on Tuesday, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.

The graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, at 11 a.m. at Moss Street Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.

Helen (Sipowicz) Ladd

LaddHUDSON FALLS – Helen (Sipowicz) Ladd, 93, formerly of the Boulevard in Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully at the Fort Hudson Health Care Facility, in Fort Edward, joining her husband and son in Heaven on Sunday, April 26, 2015.

Born on August 24, 1921, in Hudson Falls, she was the daughter of the late Bronislaw and Jadwiga (Stankowski) Sipowicz.

On November 24, 1946, she married James C. Ladd at St. Mary’s Church Rectory in Hudson Falls.  He passed away December 31, 2005.

For 20 years, Helen worked at General Electric, Co. in Hudson Falls and Schenectady. Along with her husband, she also operated a grocery store on the Boulevard, which she later sold to her brother, Eddie.   Following the sale of the store, Helen and her husband moved to Florida and later retired in Fair Play, South Carolina.

Helen enjoyed playing cards with her sisters, tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, making beautiful needlepoint, which she gave to family members and crocheting afghans.  She loved her visits to the casino and playing the lottery.  Her family and friends enjoyed being around her, because she had such a wonderful sense of humor and a beautiful outlook on life.

Besides her parents and husband, Helen was predeceased by her son, James C. Ladd, Jr., who died on February 16, 1964, her brothers, Bernard, Thaddeus, Robert, Edward, Raymond, Leonard and Richard Sipowicz as well as two sisters, Madeline Jackoski and Theresa Blondin.

Survivors include her brother, Donald Sipowicz of Hudson Falls; her two sisters, Ethel Frawley and Regina Curley both of Hudson Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Helen’s request, there will be no calling hours or funeral.

The Rite of Committal will be on Thursday, April 30, 2015, at 2 p.m., at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the Town of Fort Edward.

Helen always had a positive attitude throughout life and was loved by all at Fort Hudson Health Care Facility.  Her family wishes to thank the nurses and aides on B wing at Fort Hudson for their wonderful care, compassion and love given to Helen during her stay.  She loved everyone there as family.

Memorial donations in memory of Helen may be sent to Fort Hudson Health Care Facility, 319 Broadway, Fort Edward, New York or a hospice organization of one’s choice.

Kenneth L. Measeck

measeckQUEENSBURY – Kenneth L. Measeck, 90, of Cedar Court, passed away, Saturday, April 25, 2015, surrounded by his loving family, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on May 12, 1924, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Kenneth A. and Lillian (Hart) Measeck.

Following his graduation from Hudson Falls High School, Kenneth enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp., where he proudly served his country.  Upon his honorable discharge, Kenneth continued his education at Oswego State University, where he earned his BA in Industrial Arts.  While attending Oswego State, he met the love of his life, Peggy Smith.  They were married in Port Byron, on July 16, 1949 and soon after, Kenneth began his teaching career in Earlville.   While teaching during the day, he went to school at night and earned his Master’s Degree from Colgate University.  Four years and two children later, Kenneth moved to Glens Falls and started teaching at Glens Falls High School, later becoming Vice Principal.  After 15 years in Glens Falls, he ended his career in education as director of pupil personal services at BOCES, where he worked for eleven years, retiring in 1979.

Kenneth was a member of the New York State Teachers Association, the New York State School Guidance Counselor’s  Association, the National Education Association and the Boy Scout Council.  Also, he was a past President of the Glens Falls School Teachers Association and the Eastern Zone Teachers Association.

Kenneth was an excellent craftsman and a perfectionist, who built four beautiful homes, exquisite jewelry  and fine furniture.  He was an excellent teacher, who made a difference in the lives his many students. But, the center of Kenneth’s life was his family.  He was a devoted husband, patient father and loving grandfather and great grandfather.  His family always came first.  Kenneth was a gentle man, who was kind, caring, loving and devoted not only to his family but to all the children he touched during his long career in education.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister in law, Elaine Measeck and his brother in law, Kenneth Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Peggy Measeck of Queensbury; his two children, John Measeck and his wife, Nikki of Warrensburg and Joan Jeffords and her husband, Robert of Greenwich; his five grandchildren, Ian Measeck and his wife, Sarah, Lindsey Measeck, Regan Jeffords,  Logan Bouchard and her husband, Norm and Kendra Kelly and her husband, Eric;  six great grandchildren, Charlotte, Lucy, Colin, Cooper, Shea and Nora; his brother, Leonard G. Measeck and his wife, Shirley of Lake George and Roger D. Measeck of Hudson Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am on Monday, April 27, 2015, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls, with the Reverend Thomas E. Konopka, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will follow at Pine View Cemetery in the town of Queensbury.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Phyllis A. Leary

Leary Phyllis 2 Leary, Phyllis

HUDSON FALLS – Phyllis A. Leary, 72 , of Devine Drive, went into the arms of the Lord, on Sunday, April 19, 2015, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Born on December 9, 1942 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Lester A. and Theresa (St. Louis) Yarter.

Phyllis attended Hudson Falls High School and on October 14, 1961, she married Robert Leary, Sr.   He passed away on February 25, 2005, after 43 wonderful years of marriage.

For over 20 years, Phyllis worked as a nurse’s aide at West Mount Health Care Facility and for almost 20 years at CR Bard, both in Queensbury.

She was a devoted member of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.

Phyllis loved to cook for her family and friends, always trying out new recipes.  Some turned out wonderful and of course, some were not quite as good.  She also loved doing crossword puzzles and reading mysteries.  Every other Thursday she would love to go to dinner with her retired friends from CR Bard. The center of her life was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Besides her husband and parents, Phyllis was predeceased by her sister, Cynthia McCaffery and her husband, John, her brother, Lester A. Yarter, Jr., two great granddaughters, Deliah  Scoville and Emileigh Scoville, her sisters in law, June Zaiko and her husband Francis (Zike), Anita Doran and her husband, Bob,  and Jeanette Lazure, her brother in law, Teamer Lazure and his wife, Pat, and several aunts and uncles.

Survivors include her children, William Leary and his companion, Mary Lynn Walker of Hudson Falls, David Leary and his companion, Kathy Marr of South Glens Falls, Patti Walkup and her husband, Kevin of Hudson Falls, Robert Leary, Jr. and his companion, Rhonda Steiner of Glens Falls and Lynn Bonilla and her companion, Brian Cole of Glens Falls; her grandchildren, Tom Leary and his companion, Kristy Infield, Jessica Leary and her companion, Ryan Scoville, Sr., Eric Walkup and his fiancée, Teesha, Shauna Leary, Nicholas Walkup, Josh Leary and his companion, KayKay Kearns, Steven Leary, Shawn Leary, Ashlee Fish and her husband, Nate, Kara Leary, Sumar Bieda, Tanna Cole and Tyler Cole; her great grandchildren, William Dingman, Andreau Dingman, Caden Scoville, Camdyn Scoville, Ryan Scoville, Jr., Ava Mae Leary, Landon Wildey, Roary Leary, Vinny Leombruno, Ryder Leary, Trixie Walkup, Tessah Piper, Sylas Piper and Kashton Arquette; her brother in law, Ronald River of TX and Clarence Lazure of FL; her sister in law  Pam Yarter of CT; her aunt, Noella Townstend of Oneonta; her uncle, Leo St. Louis and his wife, Ruth of Hudson Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins; and her adopted daughter, Linda Tucker and her son, Jason

Edward “Big Ed” Gazel

GazelHAGUE – Edward “Big Ed” Gazel, 62, of Hague, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at the Glens Falls Hospital, after a long illness.

Born September 26, 1952, he was the son of the late Edward and Leora Gazel.

Ed was a 1970 graduate of SUNY Albany.  In 1978, he graduated from New Brunswick Seminary and served in ministry for several years.

He loved fishing, camping, boating, classic cars, photography, music and entertaining.

Ed worked at TV-8 in Glens Falls as a cameraman and was also a DJ at WCKM.  He enjoyed his DJ work and especially karaoke at several local businesses.  His beautiful voice and wonderful sense of humor entertained people for many years.

At Ed’s request, there are no calling hours or services.

George Alekseew

QUEENSBURY – George Alekseew, 54, of Queensbury, received his angels wings on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born March 7, 1961 in Middleton, he was the son of the late George and Nettie (Conklin) Alekseew.

George enjoyed spending time with his family at Meadow Lane.  He was very thankful for his CWI family and for their loving care and support.   He especially liked his time with Andrew, for the wonderful massage therapy he received and was very thankful for Karen, for her musical therapy, introducing him to the many musical instruments he enjoyed.  The Meadow Lane family would like to thank all the medical providers for their care and compassion through the years.

A  graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday, at 9 a.m., at the Evergreen Cemetery in Lake George, with the Reverend Dick Engert, officiating.

Loren “Chipper” Wheeler

Edith “Edie” Titchen

TitchenHUDSON FALLS – Edith “Edie” Titchen, 89, of Hudson Falls, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Fort Hudson Health Care Facility in Fort Edward.

Born May 12, 1925, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Agnes Maxwell.

Edith was a wonderful mother to her 3 daughters and many, many of their friends.  She was a worthy matriarch with an incredible sense of humor and a heart of gold. She lived in California, Florida, New York City, New Hampshire, Honolulu (1959-82) and returned to her home town of Glens Falls in 1982.

Besides her parents, Edith was predeceased by her brothers Fred and Tommy Maxwell and her sisters Lillian Sullivan and Charlotte Hart.

Survivors include her three daughters, Denise Carpenter of Florida, Carol Yee and her husband, Melvin of Hawaii, Leilani Studenka and her husband, James of Hudson Falls; her six grandchildren, Camille Colegrove, Isaiah Carpenter, Emily Carpenter, Annelise Yee, Alexei Studenka, Nat Yee; her four great grandchildren, Adrianna and Ashley Colegrove, Tyler and Brody Shaw; as well as her dog, Winston.

A private burial will be held by the family at the Moss Street Cemetery, in the town of Kingsbury.

Memorial donations may be made to the Fort Hudson Health Care Facility, 319 Broadway, Fort Edward, New York 12828, where Edith received loving care.

Thomas E. Stone

Stone, TomAllegany, NY-Thomas E. “Tom” Stone, 60, of Five Mile Rd. passed away peacefully on Sunday (April 12, 2015), surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous fight against pancreatic cancer.

Born November 25, 1954, in Jamestown, he was the son of Doris (Frink) Stone and the late Robert Earl Stone.

Tom was a 1972 graduate of Randolph Central School. He was proud to have operated the family dairy farm on Coldspring Road in Randolph for several years following his graduation.  Tom loved his farm.  After the loss of the farm due to fire, he moved to Allegany to begin a career as a milk inspector for Saputo Dairy (formerly Friendship Dairy in Friendship).  That also was the beginning of his wonderful marriage on September 16, 2005, to his soul mate, Linda Cotton Stone.

Tom’s wife, family, and friends were the center of his life. He always enjoyed family gatherings.  For the past fifteen years, he cooked chicken barbecues for his mother’s birthday party and many other parties for friends.   Tom had hard working hands that were immensely talented. He could build anything, and he loved sharing his talents and time with family and friends—always helping with projects and performing them unselfishly and with exactness and pride.

Tom was a kind and loving husband, who cherished his loving wife, Linda.  He was a devoted son, supportive brother, loving grandfather, and great friend. Tom was a blessed gift and will leave us all with a hole in our hearts.

Survivors include his loving wife, Linda Stone of Allegany; his devoted mother, Doris F. Stone of Randolph; his two sisters, Karolie Lerow and her husband, The Rev. Donald, of Jacksonville, NC, and Doneen S. Nikas of Hudson Falls; his children and step children, whom he loved as his own, Jason Stone, Tyler Stone, Chris Pontti, Chuck Pontti, Scott Pontti, Jane Tingley, Joseph Crosson, Matt Crosson, Wendy Minges, Christy Grubbs, and Ashley Cotton; his brother-in-law; sisters-in-law; many loving grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends may gather with the family from 11am until 2pm on Friday (April 17, 2015) at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 2pm in the funeral home. The Rt. Rev. Donald Lerow, brother-in-law to Tom, will officiate.

MarmionDERBY, CT – Mary V. Marmion, 66, of Derby, CT, passed away unexpectedly with her loving family by her side a Griffin Hospital, April 7, 2015.

Born on April 4, 1949, in Westport, NY, she was the daughter of the late William and Ella (Sherman) Burke.

Mary lived in Hudson Falls for several years, before moving to Derby, CT.

Besides spending time with her family and friends, she enjoyed her shopping, cooking, baking and watching her favorite movies.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Michelle Bolduc and her brothers and sister, Louis Burke, William Burke, Jimmy Burke and Betty Hill.

She is survived by her two daughters, Danielle Bolduc and her husband to be, Clyde Degray of Derby, CT and Nicole Bolduc and her companion, Matthew Aldous of Queensbury; her grandchildren, Kayleigh Cronin and her companion, Robert Porter, Robert Cronin, III of Queensbury and Ashley Ojeda of Derby, CT; her great-grandchildren, Nicholas Cronin and Lillyanna Porter of Queensbury; She is also survived by her companion, Peter Shalvoy of Derby, CT; her five brothers, Bruce Burke and his wife, Joyce of Fort Edward, Robert Burke and his wife, Marion of South Glens Falls, Herbert Burke and his wife, Ellen of Westport, Thomas Burke and his wife, Yvonne of Ticonderoga and Raymond Burke of Corinth; her sister in law, Marie Burke of Lewis; and also several nephews and nieces.

GLENS FALLS – Brendan J. McMullen, 76, passed away on Monday, April 6 2015, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Mr. McMullen will be privately laid to rest at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
