Eleanor “Ellie” May Bakay

BakayQUEENSBURY- Eleanor “Ellie” May Bakay, 78, of Aviation Road, passed away peacefully, at her home, on Monday, July 13, 2015, with her loving husband by her side.

Born on January 8, 1937, in Hudson Falls, she was the daughter of the late Chester H. and Eleanor Mabel (Webster) Oddey.

Ellie was a 1954 graduate of Hudson Falls High School.  Following her graduation she furthered her education at Samaritan Hospital Nursing School, graduating in 1957 with her RN Degree.

On May 19, 1962, she married William Bakay.  Together they have shared 53 wonderful years.

Ellie worked for the Glens Falls Hospital as a Registered Nurse until the birth of her children.  She raised two daughters, and then rejoined the workforce.  For over 23 years, she was a school nurse at Queensbury Union Free School, 17 years of which she was the High School Nurse.

Ellie loved dancing and listening to all kinds of music, bowling, ice and roller skating, all with her husband by her side.  She looked forward to taking an annual trip to Wells, Maine.  In her younger years, she enjoyed ceramics.  Throughout her life she was a veracious reader.  When her health didn’t allow her to be as active, she enjoyed watching the birds from her window.  Ellie had a sharp mind and a great memory.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her mother and father in law, George and Cecelia Bakay.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, William Bakay of Queensbury; her daughters, Diane Bakay-Talbot and her husband, Lee of South Glens Falls and Deborah Gordon and her husband, Guy of South Glens Falls; four grandchildren, Ashley Talbot, Samantha Talbot, Bradford Gordon and William Gordon.

A memorial services will be celebrated 11 am on Saturday, July 18, 2015, at The Church of The Messiah in Glens Falls with the Reverend Karl Kuhn, rector, officiating.  Following the services, she will laid to rest in the columbarium in the Church of the Messiah.

James Paul “Wimpy” Webb

WebbGLENS FALLS & MYRTLE BEACH, SC – James Paul “Wimpy” Webb, 90, formerly of Glens Falls, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, in the comfort of his home, with his loving wife and family by his side in Myrtle Beach.

Born on June 13, 1924, in Hackensack, NJ, he was the son of the late Clifford and Marguerite Webb.

He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII from December 1942 to November 1945.

James worked for many years for Portland Cement in Glens Falls, retiring as Safety Coodinator.

He is fondly remembered by his children for coaching their little league baseball.  James enjoyed walking on the beach, where he looked for sharks teeth.  In his younger years, he loved bowling.  James also loved golfing, watching sports on TV and traveling all over the country.  His travels took him to places such as Alaska, Germany, Florida and Maine.  James enjoyed visiting various state parks.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his 1st wife, Gloria (Vannier) Webb and his siblings, Charles, Clifford, Harry and Helen.

James is survived by his wife, Margaret (Wojcinowicz) Webb of Myrtle Beach, SC; his children, James Webb and his wife, Catherine of Argyle, Richard Webb and his wife, Lynn of Hudson Falls, Edward Webb and his wife, Susan of Queensbury and Timothy Webb and his wife, Eileen of Fort Ann; and his step son, Victor Vizvary and his wife, Grace of Claremont, NH; his brother, Marcel “Mickey” Webb of Saranac Lake; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The Rite of Committal will be 1 p.m. , Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Queensbury, with full military honors, provided by The Hudson Falls American Legion Honor Guard, Post 574.

Mrs. Mary Y. Fratamico

FratamicoGLENS FALLS – Mrs. Mary Y. Fratamico died peacefully at the Cortland Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 in Cortland, NY at the age of 97.

Born March 26, 1918 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Malvina Yannaci. Mary graduated from St. Mary’s High School and subsequently attended the Adirondack School of Business.  After graduating, Mary worked at McMullen’s shirt factory in Glens Falls.  She was married on October 20, 1946, and helped her husband establish Mico’s, a long time clothing establishment in downtown Glens Falls.  Mary lived almost her entire life in the Glens Falls area, with two exceptions when she resided in Escondido, CA and Cortland, NY, in both cases living near her children.  She was very proud of their family home on Western Avenue in Glens Falls, in which she played a major role in the design.

Mary very much enjoyed playing bridge and was honored to earn the status of Life Master by the American Contract Bridge League.  She and her husband played in many tournaments across the country.  Mary established numerous friendships at bridge games.  She also very much enjoyed cooking and was always eager to delight house guests with her home cooked Italian food.  Finally, Mary was a loving and supportive mother who displayed great pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband John Fratamico Sr.; her eldest son, John Thomas Fratamico, who died as a young child, and her siblings, Susan Bocchi and Angelo Yannaci.

Survivors include her sons, Robert and his wife, Mary C. Fratamico of Homer and John and his wife, Susan Fratamico of San Diego, CA; her granddaughters Kristen Reed of Newington, CT, Erin Skorupski of Green River, WY and Lauren Fratamico of Vancouver, British Columbia; and her great granddaughters, Hannah Reed and Josie Skorupski.

The family wishes to express their gratefulness for the wonderful care provided to Mary by those at the Oaks of Fort Edward, Walden Place of Cortland and the Elizabeth Brewster House of Homer.

A private viewing and burial is scheduled for Saturday, July 11, 2015.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Elizabeth Brewster House, 32 Main St., Homer, New York 13077.

Rev. Jerome “Jerry” Mabb, Jr.

MabbHUDSON FALLS – Rev. Jerome “Jerry” Mabb, Jr., 84 of Lower Oak Street, went into the arms of the Lord surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, July 5, 2015.

Born on December 27, 1930 in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of the late Jerome and Charlotte (Norman) Mabb, Sr.

Following high school, Jerry continued his studies in theology and business education at Adirondack Community College. 

On June 18, 1949, Jerry married Beatrice at the Christ Methodist Church in Glens Falls.  

Following high school, Jerry worked the Saratoga Ice Company in Saratoga Springs.  After his marriage to Beatrice, Jerry started working for James H. Moynihan Coal Co. in South Glens Falls.  He began his fuel oil career at Finch Pruyn Retail and Cooling, where he was President of Finch Pruyn Retail & Cooling.  In 1982, Jerry founded Mabb Oil Company, where he worked until his retirement. 

The center of Jerry’s life was his family and his church.  Jerry was a devout member of the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church for 57 years.   He taught Sunday school and also was a Boy Scout instructional representative for his church.  He served as an usher and a communion server.  Jerry was a member and chairperson for the administrative board at his church.  He was also chairperson at the Evangelism Committee and a finance team member, as well as a lay leader.  Jerry was an advanced lay speaker in the United Methodist Church Conference.  Along with Marilyn VanTassell, Jerry led many services, sang and played guitar for the Westmount Infirmary and Fort Hudson Nursing Home.  On July 19, 2008, Jerry was ordained a minister by the Alliance International Ministries Church.  It was then, that he became Reverend Jerry Mabb and began to serve as a Glens Falls Hospital Chaplin.  He did visitation for HFUMC and to anyone else he felt led to witness to.   There are probably many other ministries Jerry has been involved in without our knowledge.  He was truly a man of God who believed in Jesus Christ and served him well.  Rest in peace, Reverend Jerry Mabb.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Fort Edward Little League.  Jerry was partly responsible for the installation of the lights on the Little League Field in Fort Edward.  He was a member of the Fort Edward planning board and a past President of the Oil Heat Institution of Eastern New York.  Jerry was also founder of “The Western Wheel’s” band where he played guitar and called square dances.  He played at several weddings and many local establishments.  Every night after dinner, Jerry loved playing his guitar.

Survivors include his loving wife of 66 wonderful years, Beatrice Mabb of Hudson Falls; his four children, Jerome E. Mabb and his wife, Margaret of South Glens Falls, Michael Mabb and his wife, Mary Ellen of South Glens Falls, Matthew Mabb and his wife, Holly of Hudson Falls and Judy Shaw and her life partner, Chris of Queensbury; his ten grandchildren, Jerome E. Mabb II (Sara), Jason H. Mabb (Kessa), Mary Sue Hollowood (Carl), Christie Ann Hummel (Matt), Jeffrey Mabb (Heather), Travis M. Shaw, Jesse E. Shaw (GinaLynn), Jodie M. Marinello (Anthony), Heather M . Craner (Michael) and Heidi L. Bilicki (Stefan); his 11 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Jerry’s family wishes to thank Fort Hudson Health Care Facility G-Wing staff, especially Sarah, for the care and compassion they gave to Jerry and his family.

Friends may call Tuesday, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, at the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church.

Burial will follow at Gansevoort Cemetery in the town of Northumberland.

C. Marilyn Ryan

RyanHUDSON FALLS – C. Marilyn Ryan, 83, of William Street passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving children, on Sunday, July 5, 2015.

Born February 8, 1932 in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Catherine (Jones) Hynes. 

In 1952, Marilyn married Frank J. Ryan in the Bronx.  For the past fifty years, she has lived in this area.   Frank passed away June 20, 1986, after 34 wonderful years of marriage.

In her forties, Marilyn went back to school and proudly obtained her R.N. from SUNY Adirondack formerly Adirondack Community College.

Marilyn loved her work as an R.N. at Glens Falls Hospital.  She worked for 27 years, caring for people, making new friends and was fondly known as “MA’ Ryan by her co-workers.   Marilyn was an avid reader who had a thirst for knowledge, which led her to read anything and everything.  She was a strict organic vegetarian, was not shy about her views to her family, however she did love her sweets.  Marilyn loved vacationing on any beach, especially Gloucester, MA.  With her children, she was able to attend many football games, including two Super Bowls to watch her favorite team, the Giants, thanks to her son, Sean.

Besides her parents and husband, Marilyn was predeceased by her son, Thom, and her grandson, Shane.

Survivors include her five children, Bonnie Scarselletta and her husband,  Steve “ Scratch” of Hudson Falls, Doreen Ryan and her companion, Lee Murphy of Hudson Falls, Dan Ryan and his wife, Valerie of South Glens Falls, Karen Diel and her husband, Bryon of South Glens Falls and Sean Ryan and his wife, Jenni of Hudson Falls; her daughter in law, Diane Higgins-Ryan; her six grandchildren, Kelsi Trevett, Rory Johnson, Caitlin Johnson and Shae Scarselletta, Amanda and Josh Ryan; her two great grandchildren, Jack and Ryan; her brother Rich Vena and his wife, Gwen and Jon Vena and his wife Rosemary; her sister, Pat Eggleston and her husband, Jim as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marilyn’s family wishes to thank all those who took special care of their mother during her illness, especially, Kelly, Karen, Audrey, Sam, Krista, Angie, Charlotte and Melissa.

Betty A. “Betty Boop” Johnson

Betty Johnson 1 Betty Johnson 2QUEENSBURY – Betty A. Johnson, 72, of Sanders Lane, Queensbury, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the Stanton Health and Rehab Center in Queensbury.

Born on November 19, 1942 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mildred (Swan) Stevens.

Betty was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Hudson Falls, where she was also a member of the Court Mater Dei #1442 Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Family was the biggest part of Betty’s life. Christmas Eve gatherings were very important and she prepared months in advance. An avid cardinal collector, Betty loved watching them through her window. Betty enjoyed taking ceramics classes; making gifts for her children and grandchildren. Betty will be forever missed.

Betty was predeceased by her longtime companion, Richard “Pa” Clapper of Queensbury, two brothers, William Stevens and Robert Stevens, and one sister, Beverly Cutler.

Survivors include her children, Phillip D. Johnson and his wife, Michelle, of Moreau, Stephen M. Johnson and his wife, Laurie, of Hudson Falls, Jeffrey B. Johnson and his wife, Lisa, of Fort Ann, Deborah L. Hayes and her husband, AK, of Glens Falls, Jason R. Clapper and his wife, Melissa, of Glens Falls; grandchildren, Andrea Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Kristie Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Michael Johnson, Jeffrey Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, Amber Bement, Eric Bement, Jennifer Hayes, Alee Hayes, Marlayna Kineke, Connor Kineke, Cassidy Clapper, and Jace Clapper; great-grandchildren, Shane Cahill, Sophie  and Hailey Johnson; one sister, Theresa Derby and her husband, Robert of Hudson Falls, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Sharon (VanNess) Jenkins

HUDSON FALLS – Sharon (VanNess) Jenkins, age 56, passed away peacefully at her home with her loving family by her side after a 21-year battle with cancer. Sharon had incomparable strength and spirit, and her love for her family kept her on this earth. She was a valued employee of Washington County Head Start, serving as the Transportation Manager. As former president of the Hudson Falls Wrestling Boosters, she revitalized the program which remains vibrant to this day. Despite her illness, she lived each day to the fullest, travelling through the country, undertaking craft and home renovation projects, and spending time with her extended family, friends and her pets.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Gary Jenkins; her son Peter (Kate) Jenkins; her daughters Sarah Genier (Brian) and Heidi Jenkins; her mother, Margaret VanNess; her brothers Edward “Butch” VanNess (Stella); Art (Diane) VanNess; Leo VanNess; James (Judy) VanNess; Steven (Lisa) VanNess; Thomas (Michelle) VanNess; and Timothy VanNess; her sisters Margaret Quirk; Linda Dugan; Janet (Ken) LaFay; Virginia (Fred) Whiting; Gail (Perry) Wittmer; Tina VanNess; Lisa VanNess and Laurie (Mark) Havens. She is also survived by her in-laws, David (Cindy) Jenkins; Janice (Steven) Butler; and Donald (Nancy) Brace; and by many, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and aunts and uncles.

She is predeceased by her father Leo VanNess, brother Kenneth VanNess, her brothers-in-law Patrick Dugan, Richard Quirk and Frank and Shirley Holeman, her father-in-law John Brace and mother-in-law Marion Jenkins, and many beloved aunts and uncles.

Kimberly Lynn Tully Heym

HeymGLENS FALLS – Kimberly Lynn Tully Heym, 44, of Glens Falls, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2015, at the Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Born on September 13, 1970, in Hartford CT., she was the daughter of Lynn (Feron) Brayton and the late Kenneth Tully.

Kim was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School, class of 1988.  She then obtained her Associates degree in accounting from Bay Path College in Long Meadow, MA.

On October 8, 2000, she married Timothy Heym at the United Methodist Church in Queensbury.

She worked for State Farm for several years and recently was employed as a server at the Great Escape Lodge in Queensbury.

Kim enjoyed spending time with her husband and children.   Together they enjoyed camping on Schroon Lake and vacationing in Myrtle Beach.  Her children were her greatest accomplishment in life.  The children were asked what special memories they have of their mother.  Jayden; the special bond he had with her. Jensyn; enjoyed their mani-pedi outings.  Justin; cuddling and watching WWE.  Kim will be remembered as a wife and mother who enjoyed watching her children play sports, celebrating their birthdays, cooking family dinners and making the best chocolate milk.

She is predeceased by her fathers, Kenneth J. Tully and Jerry W. Brayton

Kim is survived by her husband, Tim Heym of Glens Falls; her children, Jayden Heym, Jensyn Heym and Justin Heym, all of Glens Falls; her mother, Lynn Feron Brayton of Queensbury; her siblings, Katrina McFadden (Drew), Jody Paoletti (Bob), Christi Turcotte (Mike), Jerry Lee Brayton (Debbyanne), Terry Brayton (Nanette), and Misti Gilbert (Mark); her father and mother in law Fred and Pamela Heym; her brothers in law,  Todd Heym (Tammy) and Tom Heym (Danielle); her close friends, Dave and Sherrie Moses; and several  nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., in Hudson Falls.

A funeral service will follow the calling hours at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Patricia Girard, officiating.

Graveside services will take place at 1 p.m. on Monday at Union Cemetery, in the town of Fort Edward.

Phyllis Ann Kew

KewHUDSON FALLS – Phyllis Ann Kew, 69, of Hudson Falls, entered the eternal gates of Heaven to be reunited with her son, Ray, on Tuesday, June 23, 2015.

She was born on October 23, 1945 to the late Laurence and Marjorie (Saunders) Harsha and was raised on the family farm in Adamsville.  She graduated from Hudson Falls High School and shortly thereafter, on August 11, 1963, she was united in marriage to Raymond Milton Kew at the South Glens Falls Baptist Church by Rev. Korb.  Raymond and Phyllis raised their children on Pine Street in Hudson Falls in the home they built together.

In addition to being a homemaker, Phyllis was the bookkeeper for Raymond’s auto businesses, their rental homes, and in later years for his excavating business. Their door was always open and the coffee pot was always on for family and friends, any time, day or night.  She lived for her children and mourned the loss of her son, Ray at age 23.  Her grandchildren brought her great comfort and joy over the years, and her great-granddaughter, Mia, was the light of her life.

Family time was the center of her world, whether it was cruising annually with her daughter’s family to Bermuda, the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, Cozumel, Costa Maya, and Belize, or traveling locally to Busch Gardens, Virginia and Myrtle Beaches, or just spending time at home with the grandchildren, playing video games, building legos with them or swinging in the back yard.  She enjoyed shopping with her daughter and granddaughter, especially their annual 24-hour marathon Black Friday shopping trips, and she always looked forward to weekly visits with her dear friend, Olive Breault, and her friend and hair stylist, Laurie Cottrell-Orsini.

It recently came to light that for years Phyllis sponsored and corresponded with an overseas child, and subsequently adopted another after that child grew up.   Her daughter discovered this when mailing a check for her.  That was the kind of person she was – private, humble, generous, selfless, compassionate and above all, her daughter’s hero, being the best mother and friend anyone could ask for.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Raymond M. Kew and her sister, Donna (Harsha) White.

Survivors include her loving daughter, Michele Langlois and her husband, John of Hudson Falls; her grandchildren, Jason Langlois of Los Angeles, California, Sgt. Kyle and Jackilyn (Winchell) Langlois of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Amber Langlois of Albany; her great granddaughter, Mia Perez; her brother, Richard Harsha (Odelie) of Adamsville; her sister, Debbie Pollack (Thomas) of Argyle; her brother-in-law, Orin White, Jr. of Hartford, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Monday, June 29, 2015, from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

The funeral service will follow calling hours at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward, where she will be laid to rest with her son.

Sandy (Colvin) Chainao

Chainao POST STARNORTH CREEK – Sandy (Colvin) Chainao, 69, of North Creek, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on November 15, 1945, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Frances Brower.

For about 25 years, Sandy was the proud owner and operator of the White Pine Restaurant in North Creek, with her long time friend, Doris Fish.   While running the restaurant, she made great food and developed many friendships.  The White Pine Restaurant was best known for its ever changing “Christmas Tree” in which was decorated according to each season.   In her earlier years, Sandy enjoyed going camping.  More recently, she loved socializing and spending time with her friends.

Survivors include her daughter, Sheri Powell and her husband, Keith of Fort Edward; her brothers, Bob Colvin and his wife, Joan of Lewiston, ME and Bill Colvin of South Glens Falls; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Sparky.

The Rite of Committal will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2015 at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Her family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Johnsburg Emergency Squad, Kelly Nessle, P.O. Box 23, Johnsburg, New York 12843.

Skylar Scott “Superman” Bennett

BennettSouth Glens Falls – Skylar Scott “Superman” Bennett, 9 months old, passed away in his mother’s arms, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, June 19, 2015, at Albany Medical Center, after fighting a long battle.

Born on September 6, 2014 in Albany, he was the son of Timothy J. and Laura J. (Hubbard) Bennett.

Skylar was a fighter, who fought every day of his life.   He loved listening to music and being around his family.

Skylar was predeceased by his great grandmother, Catherine Bennett and his cousin, Caitlin Amber Echeandia-Duggan.

Survivors include his loving parents, Timothy and Laura Bennett of South Glens Falls; his three brothers, Jacob Kyle Bennett, Braydon James Bennett and Ashton Matthew Bennett; his paternal grandparents, David Bennett and Jill Bennett both of South Glens Falls; his maternal grandparents, Franklin and Jean Hubbard of South Glens Falls; his uncle Andy Duggan; and several great grandparents, great aunts, great uncles and cousins.

Friends may call on Friday, June 26, 2015, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Following the calling hours, prayers will be shared at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Barbara “Barbie” A. Perry

PerryQUEENSBURY – Barbara “Barbie” A. Perry, 49, of the Boulevard, went into the arms of the Lord, at her home, on Thursday, June 18, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on November 13, 1965, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth R. and Barbara (Bauer) Perry.

Barbie was a graduate of Queensbury Union Free High School and was very proud to have attended culinary school at BOCES.  For over 25 years, Barbie spent her life with her soulmate and friend, Brian.  He stood by her side throughout the good times and throughout her fight to get well.

Barbie was a driver and a preloader for UPS for 25 years, until her illness.  She was a hard worker, who was always there to lend a helping hand.

It gave her great pleasure spending time outside, tending to her vegetable and flower gardens.  Barbie enjoyed long rides with Brian, fishing and camping at Newcomb, her favorite place.  She lived for her grandson, Brantley and also spending time with Brittany, Brooke and Brian, who were bright spots in her life.  Family time was the center of her world.  Barbie enjoyed the family times spent apple picking, pumpkin carving and dyeing eggs for Easter.  She was a wonderful cook, who loved cookouts and huge Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.  Barbie looked forward to her Wednesday girl’s night at Connie’s home.  She also loved animals, especially her dogs.  Barbie was a giving, accepting person who had made many many friends throughout her life.

She is survived by her soulmate and true love, Brian Merlow of Queensbury; her three children, Brittany Plude and her boyfriend, Doug Gipe, Brooke Merlow and her boyfriend, Wayne Mattison and Brian Vaughn and his girlfriend, Jessica Viger; her grandson, Brantley Plude; her brother, Brian Perry; her sister, Bonita Perry and her finance, Jeff Lamphear; her two nieces, Elizabeth Rosenberger and her husband, Dave and Paige Perry and her fiancé Logan Doetsch; and two nephews, Stephen and Jacob Rosenberger.

Friends may call on Tuesday, June 23, 2015, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Memorial services will follow the calling hours at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Burial will be at a later date in Glens Falls Cemetery on Bay Street in Glens Falls.

Her family would like to thank the staff on Tower 2 at the Glens Falls Hospital, the CR Wood Cancer Center and High Peaks Hospice for the wonderful love, care and compassion given to Barbie and her family.

Edith F. (Henderson) French

FrenchGANSEVOORT – Edith F. (Henderson) French, 89, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2015.

Born on February 17, 1926 in Gansevoort, she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Hazel Henderson.  Edith was raised on her family’s farm and lived most of her life on the West River Road.  She loved being on the Hudson River enjoying the boats, the geese, her yard and gardens.

Edith graduated from Fort Edward High School and worked at Sandy Hill Iron and Brass as a bookkeeper.  She married the late William “Bill” French on July 12, 1947 and together they raised their three children.

Edith and Bill owned and operated the Mobil Station on Main Street in Hudson Falls for 16 years.  Later, she became a teacher’s aide for BOCES, retiring at the age of 85.  Edith developed many close relationships with students and staff.  She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Hudson Falls, serving as a Sunday school teacher and member of the Board of Trustees.  Edith truly lived her Christian faith in word and deed.

She was a hardworking woman with many talents.  Edith enjoyed sewing, selling Sarah Coventry, making beautiful cakes, taking and sharing photographs, various crafts and canning the annual harvest.  But what she loved most was spending time with her family and many friends.  Edith always remembered everyone’s birthday or anniversary with a specially selected card and a treasure she had discovered that was made “just for you.”

Edith was predeceased by her daughter Nancy Lee Ashcroft and her infant granddaughters Baby Girl French and Heather French.

Survivors include her children Glenda and Richard Hastings, Jeffrey and Kathy French, her son-in-law Lawrence Ashcroft and her brother Howard Henderson.  Her grandchildren Gregory Amorosi, Stacey Amorosi and Micah Sakata, Melanie and Jeffrey Schraver, Chad and Keri St. John, Timothy St. John, Jessica St. John, Jeffrey and Lena French, Sara and Ron King, and Larry and Keri Ashcroft brought her great joy.  Edith is also survived by her beloved twenty-two great grandchildren and her great-great granddaughter Zoe.  She treasured a very special relationship with the Wright Family and truly loved all of her nieces and nephews.  She was known and loved in return by many as their dear Aunt Edith.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM, Friday, June 19, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls, New York.

A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, June 20 at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church on Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Burial services will be private at a later date.
