Ross C. “Sonny” Rock, Jr.

RockHUDSON FALLS – Ross C. “Sonny” Rock, Jr., 72, of May Street, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, November 8, 2015, at his home, following a long illness.

Born May 18, 1943 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Ross and Sophia (Flores) Rock, Sr..

Sonny was very proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army.  To honor other veterans, Sonny would buy small flags to place on their graves at the Union Cemetery.

For over 20 years, he was employed as a mechanic at Carswells Trucks and then for over ten years, until his retirement, at Scott Paper Company in Fort Edward.

Sonny was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Fort Edward.  In his younger years, he loved building and then racing his hot rods at South Glens Falls Dragway.   Sonny also enjoyed deer hunting and fishing in the Adirondacks.

He was always there to help those in need.  Sonny would go hungry to feed those without.  He will be greatly missed by his family and his friends

Besides his parents, Sonny was predeceased by his brother, John Rock and his sisters, Donna Rock McLemore and Sylvia Rock Breton.

Survivors include his brothers, Lloyd Rock and his wife, Ann of Queensbury, Ronald Rock and his wife, Barbara of Hudson Falls and William Rock and his wife, Judith of Hudson Falls; David Pearce, whom he thought of as a son: and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Thursday, from 4 to 6 p.m.  at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at St. Joseph’s Church in the town of Fort Edward.

The Rite of Committal will follow at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward, with full military honors provided by Hudson Falls American Legion, post 574..

Sonny’s family wishes to thank Nancy Wever, David Pearce and Christopher Guy for the wonderful care and friendship given to Sonny during his illness.   They also thank Community Hospice, especially nurses, Kelly, Jen and Robin for all the care and advise given to Sonny and his family.

Richard “Dick” Van Aernem

HUDSON FALLS – Richard “Dick” Van Aernem, 75, a lifelong Hudson Falls resident, passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, November 5, 2015, at the Albany Medical Center.

Born on October 8, 1940, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Gorman and Edna (Train) Van Aernem.

Dick was a 1958 graduate of Hudson Falls High School and soon after, enlisted in the United States Air Force.  He loved flying, and was very proud to have his private Pilot’s License.  Dick enjoyed taking his family and friends up in the air.

He was co-owner of Van Aernem’s Dairy, until he sold out to his brother, Tom.     After leaving the milk business, Dick was employed at Finch Pryne, retiring after 20 years.     After his retirement, he worked part time for the Washington County Jail and the Queensbury Country Club.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church.     Flying and playing golf were at the top of Dick’s most favorite places to be.  But, the most important part of his life was his family.  Dick loved his best friend, Lori, his children, his siblings and his friends.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Robert Van Aernem and his sister-in-law, Carol Ann Van Aernem.

Dick is survived by his children, Beth Ann Van Aernem, Lindsey Van Aernem and Steven Van Aernem; his granddaughter, Brooke Saunders; his loving companion, Lori Henry; his siblings, George Van Aernem, Mary Hafner and her husband, Harry, Tom Van Aernem and his wife, Renee; his sister-in-law, Barbara Van Aernem; his nieces and nephews, Robbie Van Aernem and his wife, Stacie, Kristin Siefert and her husband, Tim, Jennifer Van Aernem, Brian Van Aernem and his wife, Linsey, Kate Abare, Kim Grover and her husband Mike, Tim Van Aernem, Julie Durham and her husband, Bill, Rich Hafner and his wife, Kelli, Erik Hafner and his wife, Linda, Laura Gillis and her husband, Scott and Krissy Hart and her husband, Phil; and several great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Monday, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Tuesday, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the Park in Hudson Falls.

The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward, with full military honors provided by the Hudson Falls American Legion, Post 574.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in Dick’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501, St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Jerrold W. Dean

DeanFORT EDWARD – Jerrold W. Dean, 84, of Fort Edward, NY passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday November 5, 2015.

Born on August 2, 1931, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late J. Wyman and Frances O. (Stoddard) Dean.

Jerry graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1949.  He attended Syracuse University from 1952 through 1956 where he received his BS and later completed his graduate work.

In 1993, he married, Janet E. (Coffin) Walsh in Glens Falls.

Jerry worked at Sears Roebuck from 1949 to 1952.  He then took a teaching position in Red Creek, NY for seven years.  In 1963, he began teaching sciences at Hudson Falls High School for 29 years.

He was a longtime resident of Glens Falls before moving to Fort Edward.

As a very active member of the First Baptist Church of Glens Falls, he served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, Worship Board member, moderator, and a member of the American Baptist Men’s Association.

Jerry always was interested in sports both as a baseball player at Glens Falls High School, as a coach for the Glens Falls Little League and Adirondack Youth Hockey and as a spectator.

In addition to his church work and sports, he enjoyed gardening, reading, camping, sailing, canoeing and was an avid tennis player.

He is predeceased also by his sister Barbara Dean Stone and her husband Richard Stone, his brothers Mack A. Dean and Donald F. Dean, and his sister-in-law Glenda Reynolds Dean.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Janet Walsh Dean of Fort Edward; the mother of his five children, Carol Bayle of Queensbury, NY; son John W. Dean and his wife, Terri of Camillus, daughter Jacqueline Dean Freeze of Houston, TX, son Steven Dean and his wife, Tammy of South Glens Falls, son Peter Dean of Austin, TX and son Joseph Dean and his wife, Sandee of Marietta, GA; two step daughters, Lisa Walsh Dougherty and her husband, Thomas, of Guilderland and Laura Walsh Ruthen and her husband, Raymond of Glastonbury, CT; two brothers, David N. Dean of Panama City, FL and sister-in-law Janet Fletcher Dean of Plattsburgh; two sisters, Judith Dean Edmunds and her husband, Richard of Venice, FL and Virginia Dean Coon and her husband, Bruce of Hilton Head, SC; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a soon to be great granddaughter.

Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Friday November 6, 2015 at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday November 7th at the First Baptist Church, 100 Maple St. in Glens Falls with the Rev. Linda Hoeschle, pastor, officiating.

Burial will take place in the Glens Falls Cemetery on Bay St. in Glens Falls.

Louise A. Keays

Keays, LouiseHUDSON FALLS – Louise A. Keays, 84, of Elm Street, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at the Glens Falls Hospital, after a long illness.

Born in North Norwich, NY, she was the daughter of the late George and Marjorie (Alysworth) Parks.

Louise graduated from Sherburne High School.  On May 15, 1955, Louise married Richard F. Keays in Norwich, NY. He passed away on October 26, 2008, after 53 years of marriage.

Louise was an avid reader and also loved boating and fishing on Schroon Lake.  When her husband was alive, they enjoyed many wonderful vacations.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Mary Bukovec.

Louise is survived by her sons, Michael T. Keays and his wife, Betsy of Hudson Falls and Christopher R. Keays and his wife, May of Alpharetta, GA; two grandchildren, Derek Keays of Queensbury and Rebecca Keays of Decatur GA; her sisters, Betty Palaka of Venice, FL, Beverly Boen and her husband James of Englewood, Florida, Dorothy Gale and her husband, Lee of Ormand Beach, FL, JoAnne Conklin and her husband, Michael of Charlotte, NC and Bonnie Burnette and her husband Fred of Venice, Florida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends may call from 12 noon until 2 p.m. Monday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, Hudson Falls.

Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. (following the calling hours) on Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donald Shuler, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.

Christine (Tinkey) Stone Bergeron

BergeronQUEENSBURY – Christine (Tinkey) Stone Bergeron, 88, of Queensbury, went into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at the Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by her daughter, sister and niece.

Born on April 13, 1927 at the family home in Hudson Falls, Christine was the daughter of the late E. Arnold and Ferne M. (Steadman) Stone.  She was very proud of her father, who was a pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Christine graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1946.   While a high school student, she was first chair coronet in the orchestra, the first majorette and also, a cheerleader.

Her first job working at Kingsbury Hotel had a special meaning, as it was where she met her future husband, John.  In January of 1950, she married John C. Bergeron, Sr., at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson Falls.   He passed away in 1995, following 45 years of marriage.

Christine was a bookkeeper for various employers in the area.  She was employed at Scott Paper.  She and her husband co-owned La Cabanna Restaurant on Glen Lake for 23 years.   Christine’s last job was with the Lake George Steamboat Company as a purser.  She also worked on the polls for the Warren County Board of Elections.

She loved photography and always had a camera in her hand.  Christine took pictures of everything but her favorite was snapping photos of landscapes.   In her younger years she was very athletic as a skilled Alpine skier, a proficient tennis player and was able to do an outstanding jitterbug.  In the late 1940’s, Christine enjoyed dancing with recovering service members of World War II at the Red Cross socials at Mount McGregor.  Her love of the outdoors, led Christine to hiking, rock hounding and collecting gemstones throughout the Adirondacks.  Her most treasured stone was the black opal that her sister brought back from Australia.

Christine loved her family and enjoyed attending her children’s athletic events and theatrical performances.   In her later years, she looked forward to gathering daily with her friends at the McDonald’s coffee klatch.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Kevin P. Bergeron, her brother, Lincoln Stone, her sisters, Dorothy Lemery, Margaret Adams and Elizabeth Stannard.

Survivors include her daughter, Christine Bergeron Merrill and her husband, Tim of South Glens Falls; her son, John C. Bergeron, Jr., and his wife, Lynne of Sierra Madres, CA; her two grandchildren, Matthew and Brad Bergeron; her great granddaughter, Julia Bergeron; her sister, Marillyn Doty-Stickney of Hudson Falls; her adopted brother, Arthur Stone and his wife, Jean of CA; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, on the park in Hudson Falls.

Michael E. Philion

PhillionNORTH MIAMI BEACH, FL and HUDSON FALLS – Michael E. Philion, 51, a long time resident of North Miami Beach, FL and most recently of Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2015, surrounded by his family and friends at the home of his sister.

Born on October 24, 1964, in Glens Falls, he was the eldest son of Donald and Shirley (Hartwell) Philion.

After graduating from Hudson Falls High School in 1982, Michael enrolled and successfully completed the Nursing Program at Adirondack Community College in 1984.   He began his career at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY as a Registered Nurse.   In 1987 he began a 28 year nursing career at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Florida.   Michael loved caring for others whether working on a med/surg floor, in the OR, cardiac cath lab and most recently in the Interventional Radiology lab at Memorial.  His compassion for others was evident and felt by all.

Michael loved the fall season, making yearly visits to pick fresh apples to bring back to Florida. He always enjoyed, when he was able, to be home for Thanksgiving and Christmas to share the holidays with his family. He fulfilled a lifelong dream of completing a medical mission with a group of physicians from the Florida area, traveling to Peru, South America in May of 2014. This group of dedicated doctors and nurses helped change the lives of 88 men, women and children during their five day stay.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Everett and Geneva Philion and maternal grandparents, Walter Hartwell and Marion (Hartwell) LaFountian

In addition to his parents he is survived by his sisters, Ann Doerffel and her husband, David of Warmnister, Pennsylvania, Susan Philion of Hudson Falls, Theresa Philion of Queensbury and Jeanne Philion-Nichols and her husband, Brian of Queensbury, and his brothers, Charles Philion and his partner, Bill Gardy of Albany and Donald J. Philion, Jr., of Gansevoort. He was the beloved uncle of Katherine (Katie) and her husband, Justin Lee of South Glens Falls, Corporal John T. Doerffel USMC, stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA, Elizabeth and Patrick Nichols and Nathan Philion, all of Queensbury. He was especially close to his great-nephew, Maxwell Lee of South Glens Falls. He is also survived by his longtime friend and partner Gary Youngkin of North Miami Beach, Florida, in addition to aunts, uncles, cousins, childhood friends and his Memorial Regional Hospital family, in Hollywood Florida, where he was well liked and respected by hundreds of friends and colleagues.

Family and friends may call on Monday, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Tuesday, at St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls. 

The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury.

A celebration in Michael’s honor will be held at the Fort Edward Fire House, immediately following the Rite of Committal.

Michael was a kind and generous soul with the biggest heart in the world. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed. He was an amazing example of how to live with dignity and grace, humbly, never complaining during this 8 month illness which he fought so valiantly. We are profoundly grateful for the loving care his dear friend and partner Gary Youngkin gave to him during his illness, and for the exceptional care and compassion he received from Dr. Grubbs and staff during his brief stay on Tower 2 at GFH and the staff from High Peaks Hospice, especially Heather, Stacey, and Carol.

In lieu of flowers the family has suggested that donations be made to the Lustgarten Foundation (working to Cure Pancreatic Cancer), 1111 Stewart Ave, Bethpage, NY 11714 or High Peaks Hospice, 79 Glenwood Ave, Queensbury, NY 12804.

Betty LeBarron

LeBarronCOLONIE and HUDSON FALLS – Betty LeBarron, 80, a longtime resident of Hudson Falls, passed away on Wednesday October 21, 2015, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Irv LeBarron, Jr.

Born December 22, 1934 in Troy, NY she was the daughter of the late William and Irene (Barbeau) Bell.

Betty worked at N.Y. Telephone Company, Riley Brothers Funeral Home and was a Court Clerk for the Town of Kingsbury.

She was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls and recently a communicant of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament in Albany. While in Hudson Falls, Betty was very active in the Bereavement Ministry at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church.

Betty found great pleasure in spending time with her great grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, going to the library, garage sales and shopping. Most recently she enjoyed her trips to the QVC Studio Park with her daughter and her touring of Nashville and New Orleans with her grandson.

Survivors include her daughter, Toni Smith; her grandchildren, Joseph Smith, Kristine Kelley and her husband Rick and Alicia Smith; her great-grandchildren, Brianna and Ricky Kelley; her sisters, Jane Richmond, Patricia Shapiro, Irma Lettrick; her brother Tom Bell; and her son-in-law Buddy Smith; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Sunday from 3 to 6 pm at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc. 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 am on Monday at the St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, on the park in Hudson Falls, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will follow at Southside Cemetery in the Town of Moreau.

In lieu of flowers, Betty’s family has requested that memorial donations be sent to St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, 11 Wall Street, Hudson Falls, NY 12839.

Randy W. Kaetzel

KaetzalHUDSON FALLS – Randy W. Kaetzel, 58, of Hudson Falls, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2015, at Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born May 30, 1957, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late George L. and Nina (Meyers) Kaetzel.

Randy enjoyed going fishing, playing golf, and traveling. He was also a ham radio operator using the call sign KD6UJM.

Besides his parents, Randy was predeceased by his sister, Debbie Sue Kaetzel and his brother, Brian K. Kaetzel.

Survivors include his nephew, Chris Kaetzel and his wife, Stacy of Hudson Falls, his nephew, Patrick Kaetzel and his fiancé, Liz of Warrensburg, his nephew, Phillip Kaetzel of Hudson Falls, his niece, Gina Kaetzel of Hudson Falls, his sister, Patricia Lafferty and her husband, Raymond of Hudson Falls, his brother, Jeffrey Kaetzel and his wife, Barbara of Hudson Falls, his niece, Patty Lafferty of Queensbury and his sister, Becky Kaetzel of Long Island.

Friends may call on Tuesday, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.  A prayer will be offered at the conclusion of calling hours.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

E. Violet “Vi” Jones

Jones, ViHUDSON FALLS – E. Violet “Vi” Jones, 90, of Hudson Falls, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 14, 2015.

Born on May 28, 1925 in Flint, MI, she was the daughter of the late Christian and Jessie (Hanes) Andersen.   Vi’s father immigrated to the United States from Denmark and her mother came from Canada.

She was very proud to have served her country in the United States Marines during World War II as a machinist.

On August 25, 1946, Vi married Dick Jones at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson Falls. Dick passed away on  January 21, 1999, after 52 years of marriage.

Vi had several jobs working as a switchboard operator, cashier and catheter maker.  Her home was also very important to her where she enjoyed crocheting and knitting for her family.

In her younger years, Vi enjoyed roller skating with her husband, Dick.  She also loved playing guitar, learning to play when she was just a child.   Vi liked to read, especially novels written by Stephen King, Agatha Christie and Dean Koontz.  She also loved dogs, including her late dogs, Laddie and Rusty.   Vi was very proud to have her pilot’s license and before joining the Marines, she was a Corporal in the Civil Air Patrol.

She was a good mom and a wonderful provider.  Vi supported and encouraged her children to do anything they wanted to do.  Her family always came first.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her eldest son, Dickie Jones; her sister, Isobel Mills; and her step mother Betty.

Survivors include her children, Wayne Jones of Hudson Falls, Chris Jones and his wife, Cheryl of Hudson Falls, Shelly Breton and her husband, Jerry Emery of Hudson Falls and Kyle Jones and his husband, Lou Barrett of Warrensburg; nine grandchildren, Wayne II, Heidi, Nic “Chance”, Ricky, Shannon, Jeremy, Heather, Brandi and Josh; many great grandchildren; her sisters, Edna Andersen of Queensbury and Elsie VanVranken of Hudson Falls; her half brother, Eric Andersen of MI; her step brothers all of MI; several nieces, nephews and cousins ; and her dog, Rascal.

Burial will be in the spring, April 29, 2016 at 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to The North Shore Animal League, 16 Lewyt Street, Port Washington, NY 11050.

 

Aahva Gregor

LAKE GEORGE  – Aahva Gregor, born October 13, 2015, passed away in the arms of his loving mother and father, October 14, 2015 at Glens Falls Hospital.

Aahva’s brief life brought a lifetime of memories and love to his parents that will impact their lives forever.  We will love him forever, we will like him always, as long as we live, our baby he will be.

Aahva survivors include his parents, Robert and Nerisha (Talip) Gregor; his big brothers, Joseph and Maxwell Gregor; his grandparents, Dawn Sova and Nazeem and Kamini Talip; his great grandparents, Bhagratie Mangal and Shaharoon Talip; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The graveside service will be conducted Sunday, at 1 p.m., at Evergreen Cemetery in the town of Lake George with the Pastor Ali Trowbridge, officiating.

Dr. Barbara Elizabeth Chick

Chick #1QUEENSBURY – Dr. Barbara Elizabeth Chick, 86 of Queensbury, NY died on Tuesday, October 13, 2015, after a short illness.

Dr. Chick was born April 25, 1929 in Boston, MA, the daughter of the late Justin Ivan and Inez Elizabeth Chick.

She attended grade school and high school in Cornish, Maine, then attended Bates College in Lewiston, Maine where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1950. Dr. Chick subsequently earned her Master’s degree in Science at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana and her Doctorate in Medicine at Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1959. Her medical practice after internship in Portland, Oregon and residency in Buffalo, NY was limited to Radiology with sub-specializations in Radiation Therapy and Nuclear Medicine at the Glens Falls Hospital. Dr Chick also served with Project HOPE as staff radiologist aboard the “Hope Ship” in Nicaragua, Central America in 1966. She was board certified by the American college of Radiology in 1964 and the American College of nuclear medicine in 1972.  She achieved Fellowship in the American College of Radiology in 1979.

Dr. Chick retired from full-time practice at Glens Falls in 1984 to assume the acting directorship of The Albany Area Radiation Therapy Program in Albany, NY.

For the remainder of her active professional life, Dr. Chick provided coverage in Radiation Therapy for Riverview Cancer Care Center in Rexford, NY, Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY and Glens Falls Hospital, Glens Falls, NY.

During her professional career, she was active in the Warren County Medical Society, serving as Secretary and President, The American Cancer Society, also serving as President, The Northeastern NY Radiological Society and The New York Chapter of The American College of Radiology having served as President for one or more years in each.  Dr. Chick was also active at the national level of The American College of Radiology, where she served as Councilor for the New York Chapter, and was appointed as a Chancellor of the Board of the American College of Radiology.   After chairing the Commission of Radiologic Practice for six years, she was elected to the office of Vice-President of the College, the first woman to be elected to that office.

In addition to her medical pursuits, Dr. Chick was an active member of the local boating community, including both the US Power Squadron and The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, in which she served at Flotilla, Division and District level. She participated in three OPERATION SAIL celebrations in 1976, 1986, & 1992 respectively. Subsequently Dr. Chick worked as the Boat Crew Qualification Coordinator for the Northern Area of the First Coast Guard District (SR) of New York, this area extending from Burlington, VT to Governors Island, NY.

She also served on the boards of several local non-profit organizations, including Greater Adirondack Home Aides and The Lake George Association, of which she was elected president from 1992 through 1995. Dr. Chick was also a Certified Basketball Official through the Women’s Athletic Association.

Her interest in her colleges has led to the dedication of a Biology Lab at Bates College and the endowment of The Barbara E. Chick, M.D., Clinical Educational and Assessment Center of the Medical College of Pennsylvania and Hahnemann University of School of Medicine at Drexel University.

A memorial service is to be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls with the Rev. Bruce Hersey, officiating.

Interment is to be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Portland Maine.

Vytautas “Victor” Paliulis

PalivlisGANSEVOORT – Vytautas “Victor” Paliulis, 72, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at his beloved farm in Gansevoort.

Born on July 25, 1943, in Bartininkai, Lithuania, he was the son of the late Vitoldas and Viktorija Paliulis.

On June 16, 1973, he married Maria Petraccone in Barre, MA.

Victor was a self employed farmer in Gansevoort.  He loved farming, his tractors, talking to people, polka music and farm related auctions.

In addition to his parents, Victor is predeceased by a son Matthew.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Maria; his daughters, Leocadia and Sarah; his sons Vincent and Jurgis; his biological grandchildren, Vincent and Gilbert; his sister Biruta; and several step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

All services are private and donations in Victor’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Carleton Funeral home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

Roscoe N. “Rocky” Harrington

HarringtonHUDSON FALLS – Roscoe N. “Rocky” Harrington, 79, a longtime Hudson Falls resident, went into the arms of the Lord, on Monday, October 5, 2015, at Indian River Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Granville.

Born February 23, 1936, in Fort Edward, he was the son of the late Roscoe E. and Doris (LaPlace) Harrington.

Roscoe was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School.   He worked as a foreman for Native Textiles in Glens Falls. In his younger years, he was a garage mechanic at the Texaco Station on Sherman Avenue.

He enjoyed talking to many people through Ham and CB radio.  Roscoe also enjoyed going shopping and going out to eat.  He was a member of the Adirondack Armature Radio Club.  Rocky was also a member of the Fort Edward/Hudson Falls 60 Plus Senior Citizens.

Besides his parents, Roscoe was predeceased by his nephews, Thomas J. McIntosh and James Rozzele.

Survivors include his four sisters, Barbara M. Hall and her husband, Ronald B. of South Glens Falls, Doris J. McIntosh and her companion, Carl Aldous of Gansevoort, Patricia Lee Harrington and her companion, Thomas Prouty of Newcomb and Elsie Doloph of Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Thursday from 11 to 1 p.m., at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, in Hudson Falls.

The funeral service will follow calling hours at 1 p.m., at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.
