Lilianne Marguerite Kuster

KUSTERKINGSBURY – Lilianne Marguerite Kuster, 83, passed away on March 31, 2017, after a long illness. Her family tenderly cared for her in her final days, at her home in Kingsbury.Lilianne was born on July 21, 1933 in Delémont, Switzerland. Her parents were the late Joseph and Germaine Rossé.

During her childhood, her family moved to Herberstwil.  While a school girl, she met Valentin Kuster. Lilianne and Valentin fell in love and were married in a mountainside chapel. Together they raised four children. In 1979, the Kusters emigrated with three of their four children to a dairy farm in Kingsbury. The family and the farm grew. Lilianne managed the accounting, fed the calves, kept poultry, and maintained extensive flower and vegetable gardens. Her mastery of all domestic arts was truly impressive and she passed many of those skills on to her children and grandchildren. Lilianne was fluent in four languages. She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. Lilianne and Valentin loved dancing together and would sometimes travel to Oktoberfests and German dance club meetings. Otherwise, they could be coaxed to dance on any occasion, even in the living room.

Lilianne was predeceased by her sister, Yvette Meister of Matzendorf, Switzerland.

Lilianne is survived by her loving husband Valentin Kuster; her sons, Daniel of Switzerland; Christian and his wife Ruth of Kingsbury; Valentin Joseph and his wife Amy of Kingsbury; her daughter, Maggie Murphy and her husband Michael of Kingsbury; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Michael Kuster, his wife Kathy and their son Christian Blake of Plymouth, North Carolina; William Kuster and Samuel Kuster of Kingsbury; Christina (Kuster) Stuart, her husband Michael and their daughter Maya of Kingsbury; Tessa (Kuster) Hetherington and husband Geoffrey of Charlotte, North Carolina; Dana Kuster, Amelia Dochak and Elena Dochak of Kingsbury and Jennifer Kuster and Joel Kuster of Switzerland;  and her brother in law Hans Meister of Matzendorf, Switzerland; and her nieces and nephew, Marianne Blaser, Lilianne Spätig and Hanspeter Meister of Switzerland.

The Kuster family wishes to thank the many professionals who cared for Lilianne throughout her illness, particularly: Dr. John Stoutenburg, Rebecca Freligh and the staff at CR Wood Cancer Center; the Glens Falls Hospital Infusion Center; the staff at Glens Falls Hospital Tower Two; Dr. Richard Stone, Ilene Galinsky and the clinical trial team at Dana-Farber, Yawkey Center for Cancer Care, Boston, MA; and High Peaks Hospice.

Arrangements have been made with Carleton Funeral Home, Hudson Falls.

There will be no calling hours. A celebration of Lilianne’s life will be announced at a future date.

Henry A. Coulombe

Coulombe, HenryHUDSON FALLS – Henry A. Coulombe, 71, of Hudson Falls, passed away on April 4, 2017, at Albany Medical Hospital.

Born on February 7, 1946, in Burlington, VT, he was the son of George and Pauline Coulombe Bombard.

Henry proudly served in the U.S. Army Engineers, in the Vietnam War.

In 1989, Henry was united in marriage to Priscilla Knobel, in Hudson Falls.

He retired from Hill and Markes in Amsterdam.

Henry was a member of Gospel Lighthouse Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, restoring muscle cars, and was a past member of “Memories on Wheels” Car Club.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Priscilla Coulombe of Hudson Falls; his children, Kristina Burger and her husband, Mike of Adams, Christopher Irish of Round Lake, Janet Abbott and her husband Joe of Belleville, and Thomas Irish and his wife, Katie of Schuylerville; his grandchildren and great grandchild; his siblings, Donald “Butch” Coulombe and his wife, Reta of California, Armond Dion and his wife, Pam of North Carolina, John Dion of Amsterdam, Paul Dion and is wife, Vickie of Amsterdam, Cathy Nowlcki and her husband, Chuck of Amsterdam, and Pauline Slot and her husband John of Rensselaerville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends are invited to call on Friday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Gospel Lighthouse Assembly of God Church at 30 La Cross St in Hudson Falls.

A funeral service will take place immediately following calling hours at 12 p.m. at church, with the Reverend Paul Mead officiating.

A burial, with military honors, will take place on Friday, at 2 p.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery on Duell Rd in the town of Stillwater.

Sandra (Juckett) Benson

Benson, SandraHUDSON FALLS – Sandra (Juckett) Benson, 78, of Hudson Falls, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on November 18, 1938, in Hudson Falls, he was the daughter of the late Donald and Gladys (Wells) Juckett.

Sandra received her bachelor’s in secondary education from Albany State. She taught school until she began to raise her family. In later years, she returned to the school system and started working in the administrative office, and ended her career as a secretary at Maple Street School.

Her husband, Gary Benson passed away on July 19, 2014, after 53 years of marriage.

Sandra was a member of the United Methodist Church, she was very active in the United Methodist Woman, served as church treasure for many years, and was active in all aspects of church life.

Survivors include, her children, Jeffrey Benson and his wife, Holly of Durkeetown, Stacey Benson Doty and her husband, Rick of Fort Edward, and Lori Benson of Fort Edward; her grandchildren, Sara Morgan Pulver, Jasmine Doty, Ethan Doty, and Molly Doty; her two brothers, Donald Juckett and his wife, Rosemary of Springfield, VA, and Lynn Juckett and his wife, Karen of Little Rock, AR; a sister in law, Donna Keck of Athol; her very close cousin, Carolyn Dorrance of South Glens Falls; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc. located at 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church at 227 Main Street, with the Reverend Derek Hansen, officiating.

The burial will take place later in the spring at Moss Street Cemetery.

Geraldine (Infield) LaPoint

LaPointFORT EDWARD – Geraldine (Infield) LaPoint, 94, formerly of Burgoyne Avenue, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, March 27, 2017 at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox, MA.

Born on June 26, 1922 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Lena (Bombard) Infield.

Geraldine was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School, class of 1939. The following year, on November 21, 1940, she married Harlan LaPoint at St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls. He passed away on March 7, 2007, after 67 wonderful years of marriage.

Geraldine worked at the Hudson Falls Central School cafeteria and the Fort Hudson Health Care
Facility food service. She loved both jobs, as it gave her the opportunity to interact with children and the elderly.

Geraldine was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church and belonged to the Court Mater Dei Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a member of the 60 Plus Senior Citizens of Hudson Falls and Fort Edward.

Her enjoyments included bowling, knitting, playing cards and performing in various minstrel shows in the area. Geraldine loved singing in the minstrel group while her husband, Harlan played the guitar.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her two sisters, Dorothy Smith and Leona Hubbard and her four brothers, Donald Infield, William Infield, Gerald Infield and Harold Infield.

Surviors include her son, David LaPoint and his wife, Joyce of Fort Mill, SC: her two daughters, Sister Maria Jude, CSJ of McSherrystown, PA and Pamela Mackie and her husband, David of Lenox MA; her three grandchildren, Kari Pons and her husband, Rob of Mashpee, MA, Jeffrey LaPoint and his wife, Catherine of Charlotte, NC and Sean Mackie and his fiancée, Lani of Taunton, MA: three great-grandchildren, Bryce LaPoint of Charlotte, NC, Christopher Pons of Mashpee, MA, and Megan Pons of Mashpee, MA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Friday, April 7, 2017 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls, NY.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., on Friday, April 7, 2017, following the calling hour at the funeral home, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will follow at Union Cemetery in the Town of Fort Edward.

Frederic “Fred” Chase

Chase, FredARGYLE – Frederic “Fred” Chase, 71, of Gilchrist Road, passed away on March 30, 2017, after a number of years of poor health.

Born on February 26, 1946 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Henry B. and Elizabeth (Albee) Chase.

Fred graduated from South Glens Falls High School in 1964 and from the State University of Oswego in 1969.   As a young boy, he was active in the Glens Falls Little League and with the Boy Scouts of America, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.

After graduating from college, Fred taught school for a few years at Shenendehowa Middle School, Glens Falls High School and Adirondack Community College.   While still in college, he found a love of photography and because of this, he established his own photography business.  Chase Photography operated for the next 19 years at the location of his childhood home, 179 Main Street in South Glens Falls.   In 1990, Fred had a new studio building constructed on Route 9, just south of the village of South Glens Falls and operated there until his retirement in October 2001.   Besides being a commercial photographer for 30 years, he branched into the field of computer graphics and owned and operated Executive Graphics & Communications, Inc., until his retirement.

Fred was active in the community all his life and served as an original board member of the Moreau Community Center, President of the Moreau Jaycees, President of the South Glens Falls Rotary Club and President of the Capital Champlain Section of the Professional Photographers Society of New York.

Fred’s biggest feeling of pride came from knowing his two daughters went onto good universities and ultimately good careers.  Amy Quigley, his oldest daughter is now a stay at home mother of three boys, Mason Chase Quigley, Carter Wells Quigley and Knox David Quigley.  Andrea Glasgow, his youngest daughter is Vice President and General Counsel of Evan Energy Investment, LC and mother of one son, Wade Harrison Glasgow and one daughter, Eliza Jean Glasgow.   Both daughters reside with their husbands, and children in Richmond, Virginia.

Fred’s outside interests were varied and included woodworking, golf, traveling, skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, hunting, fishing, sailing, flying and boating.   His real love was that of the water and annually looked forward to time spent fishing in the north woods of Maine, boating on Lake George and most recently exploring the New York Canal System and Lake Champlain.

Fred was predeceased by both his parents, Henry B and Elizabeth A. Chase, as well as both his sisters, Jean Crossman and Mabel Ashline.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Chase; one brother, Henry F. Chase of Lake Luzerne; his daughter, Amy Quigley and her husband, Brian and their three sons; his other daughter, Andrea Glasgow and her husband, Ryan and their son and daughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Donations in Fred’s memory may be made to the Boy Scout Camp Wakpominee Alumni Association, C/O 253 Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, NY 12205.

At Fred’s request, there will be no calling hours, but all friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Monday April 3rd at 3 o’clock at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., in Hudson Falls with the Rev. Michael Plank, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Hudson Falls officiating.

Fred and his family wish to extend a very sincere thank you to everyone that has been instrumental in his journey.  “Clear sailing my friend.”

David “UNK” Plude

Plude, David - Keep bike in photoQUEENSBURY – David “UNK” Plude, 71, of Queensbury, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family and friends, on Thursday, March 30, 2017.

Born on March 12, 1946, in Buffalo, he was the son of the Late Guyle and Evelyn Jane (Gandrow) Plude.

David was employed by Native Textiles in Glens Falls for over 35 years.

He enjoyed camping, cards, sports, fishing. He was an avid Yankee and Giants fans. Most of all he enjoyed riding his three-wheeled bicycle, and stopping to visit friends. He was a likeable soul who always wanted to make people laugh.

In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his three brothers, Guyle Plude, Frances Plude, and Albert Plude; his sisters, Joan Pond, and Carol Hurley.

Survivors include, his two brothers, Richard Plude and his wife, Fran of Whitehall, John Plude and his wife, Carol of Queensbury; his sisters, Linda Eggleston and her husband, Jack of Dresdon, Bonnie Plude and her companion, Robert Anderson of Hudson Falls; several beloved nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews; and his many friends, who he thought of as family. He is also survived by his baby boy, Jester the Cat.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc. located at 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Prayers will immediately follow calling hours at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary Gilmore MacFarran

MacFarran, MaryHUDSON FALLS – Mary Gilmore MacFarran, 100, one week shy of 101, of Hudson Falls, peacefully passed into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, surrounded by her loving family at her side.

Born on April 4, 1916, in Welch Hollow, Fort Ann, she was the daughter of the late George and Atsa Gilmore. Mary was a mother of four, a grandmother of eight, a great grandmother of 17, and a great great grandmother of nine.

She met her beloved husband through a friend and married at the age of 17. In the beginning of their marriage, they ran a farm in Schuylerville that was haunted. The story of their ghost experiences was published by David Pitkin. They moved to Hudson Falls a few years later and started their own business on Route 4. She worked very hard caring for her children and grandchildren. Mary enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, gardening, traveling, playing cards and board games, billiards, bowling, fishing in the South Bay of Lake Champlain and watching NASCAR.

She was very active in her community. Mary took part in 4-H, volunteering at the Washington County Fair, the ARC, and belonged to Grange, senior citizens and loved participating and volunteering her time at the Hudson Falls United Methodist Church.

Her family and friends were everything to her and she rarely missed a function to support them. She was an inspiration, was very strong, kind, caring and loving. Mary touched the lives of many, even up to her last day. She never dwelled on the negative. Her motto was to forgive and forget, each day is a new beginning.

Mary was predeceased by her parents; her father passed away when she was nine and her mother when she was 16. Her husband, Donald MacFarran, her daughters, Janet Martindale and Ilene Hartung, her grandson, Roger Martindale, her great granddaughter, Brooke Martindale, and her brothers, David and Calvin Gilmore, also passed away before her.

Survivors include her children, Gweneth MacFarran and Wayne MacFarran; her son in law, Robert Hartung; her grandchildren, Mark (Susan) Martindale, Steve (Erin) Martindale, Susan (Tammy) Coleman, Scott (Margaret) Hartung, Lisa (David) Doster, Chris (Jennifer) MacFarran and Emily (Brian) Fitzgerald; 16 great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; as well as the many dear friends that were considered like family, Terry Gould, Patty Stoy, and Mary Jo Taylor.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Fort Hudson Health Care Facility for the excellent care, the loving hands and the positive support given to Mary during her stay.

Nelson E. Duffany

DuffanyHUDSON FALLS – Nelson E. Duffany, Jr., 84, of Vaughn Road, passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife, on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at the Fort Hudson Health Care Facility in Fort Edward.

Born on December 8, 1932 in Fair Haven, VT, he was the son of the late Nelson E. and Margaret (Rooker) Duffany, Sr.

Nelson graduated from Fair Haven High School in Vermont and following high school, he joined the U.S. Army.  Nelson proudly served his country during the Korean War, while attaining the rank of Corporal. He had the responsibility of working with guided missiles while watching over his men.

On May 25, 1958, he married Venita Mumblo at St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls. Nelson and Venita stood side by side, supporting each other for almost 59 years.

He worked as a lab technician for many years at the Imperial Company in Queensbury, which later became known as Ciba Geigy.  Nelson loved his job and made many wonderful friends throughout his career.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.

The center of Nelson’s life was his family.  He loved devoting his time and his love to his grandchildren.  Nelson was a kind, caring husband, who readily agreed that his wife was always right. He was an accomplished artist, drawing and painting many beautiful pictures.

Survivors in addition to his loving wife, Venita M. Duffany, of Hudson Falls include his two sons, Mark Duffany and his wife, Pam of Hudson Falls and David Duffany and his wife, Lynne of South Glens Falls; his five grandchildren, Patrick Duffany, Jonathan Duffany, David Duffany, Jr., Michael Duffany and Alyssa Duffany; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Thank you to all the angels on A wing at Fort Hudson Health Care Facility for the love, compassion and wonderful care given to Nelson and Venita, during their time of need.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 3, 2017 at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, on the park in Hudson Falls.

The Rite of Committal will be later in the spring at St. Paul’s Cemetery, on Vaughn Road, in the town of Kingsbury.

Robert Campbell

campbell robertQUEEENSBURY – Robert Campbell, 47, of Queensbury, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 20, 2017, at his home.

Born on December 28, 1969, in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of Bobby and Patricia Campbell of Melissa, Texas; and his mother, Phyllis Bennett of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Robert was an avid NY Jets fan. He enjoyed working on his beloved Fords, building Hot Rods, baking and cooking. Robert cherished the time with his wife and daughters and his beloved puppy, Boss.

He was predeceased by his beloved mother-in-law, Margaret Hunter; and his grandparents.

Survivors include, his wife of 19 years, Elaine (Fischer) Campbell of Queensbury; his four daughters, Amelia Campbell of Queensbury, Delilah Campbell of Queensbury, Jadeyn Campbell of Queensbury, and Cheyenne Campbell of Queensbury; the son that he never had, Anthony; his brother, Richard Campbell and his wife, Nancy; his brother, Ronald Campbell and his wife, Deborah; his sister, Vicky Campbell; his brother, Paul Campbell and his wife, Teresa; his brother, Jason Clements; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends are invited to call from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc. located in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will take place immediately following calling hours at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Major David Dean of the Salvation Army officiating.

Madalyn “Madge” Nicholson

NicolsonHUDSON FALLS – Madalyn Nicholson, 93, of Hudson Falls, went to join her husband of 60 years, Charles, her son, Clyde and her daughter, Gail, in their “forever” home in Heaven.

Born on February 23, 1924 to Floyd and Pearl (Myette) Coates.

Madalyn “Madge” met the love of her life, Charles “Chick” Nicholson in their teens.  They were married February 28, 1942 and raised four children, Diane, Linda, Clyde and Gail.

During World War II, while Chick was in the service, Madge worked at General Electric Company.   Later, as the children got older, she was employed by Dr. Clifford, as a dental assistant and then in the Dix Avenue School cafeteria.

She was an excellent cook, baker and seamstress, as well as having an interest in all kinds of crafts.   Madge and Chick became interested in pottery and made several items from the clay on their property.  She took many ceramic classes and enjoyed learning new techniques.

Upon retirement, Madge and Chick loved spending their winters in Homosassa, Florida, where they developed many long-lasting friendships, as well as enjoying the sights and activities in the area.

In addition to her parents, Madalyn was predeceased by her sister, Arlene Coates, her husband, Charles, her son, Clyde and her daughter, Gail.

She is survived by her sisters, Jeanne Picatti and Marjorie Coates; her daughters, Diane (Paul) Purner and Linda (Bill) Haessly; her daughter in law, Joan (Clyde) Nicholson; her grandchildren, Michael Purner and his fiancée, Brenda, Peter Purner, Michelle (Jim) Brunelle, Tom (Tracy) Bocchi, Scott (Krystal) Nicholson and Tim (Deb) Nicholson; her great grandchildren, Amanda (Scott) Traylor, Joseph Purner, William Purner, Nikita Purner, Telyn Bocchi, Sarah Bocchi, Matthew Nicholson, Michael Nicholson, Abbie Brunelle, Megan Brunelle, Hannah Nicholson, Grace Johnson, Dereck VanBuren and Alexandra VanBuren; her great, great grandchildren, Zachary Traylor and Karter VanBuren; and several nieces and nephews.

Rose C. Chickanis

Chickanis, RoseHUDSON FALLS – Rose C. Chickanis, 87, a longtime Maple Street resident, went into the arms of the Lord on Friday, March 24, 2017.

Born on August 18, 1929, in New York City at Flower 5th Avenue Hospital, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Nicholas and Dorothy (Dupuy) Sabbagh and the granddaughter of the late Louis and Julia Dupuy, owners of the Dupuy Greenhouses in Whitestone, NY.

Rose grew up in Brooklyn and attended St. Francis Xavier and Angela Hall schools in Brooklyn. She graduated high school from Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn. Rose was an avid Brooklyn Dodgers fan. In 1941, she and her family moved to Whitestone Queens at 1538 Parsons Boulevard. Rose was an avid figure skater, often skating with her childhood friend Jacqueline Murphy at the Rye Figure Skating Arena in Tarrytown. Sonja Henie, world renown figure skater, was her idol. Rose was a novice figure skating Judge with the United States Figure Skating Organization and also the founder and President of the Glens Falls Figure Skating Club. She was an excellent piano player, her favorite song being “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” Rose loved animals and always had a golden retriever at her side. She also enjoyed playing cards with the girls every Wednesday afternoon, played tennis and trips to Martha’s Vineyard.

On November 27, 1954, she married the love of her life, Thomas “Tom” Chickanis at St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Church in Greenwich, Connecticut. She became a sister to Theresa Chickanis Ambrose, Catherine Chickanis Marron and Evelyn Chickanis Esposito and a daughter in law to Raymond Chickanis

At the age of 40, Rose tragically lost her husband and youngest son in a car bicycle accident in Hudson Falls. Not only a family tragedy, this loss deeply affected everyone in the town. Coach Chick was a highly respected and well thought of person by everyone. After the loss of her husband and son, Rose raised her oldest boys, George and Ed, and did a phenomenal job as both sons did very well in their life’s endeavors.

Rose worked for many years for the New York Bell Telephone Company. She then served as a secretary for many years at Maple Street School in Hudson Falls.

She was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.

In addition to her parents and grandparents, she also was predeceased by her husband, Thomas J. Chickanis and her son, Thomas J. “TJ” Chickanis.

Survivors include two sons, George Chickanis of Hudson Falls and Edward Chickanis and his fiancée, Kim Lowman of Ellicott City, MD; and her grandchildren, Thomas John Chickanis, Christopher Chickanis and Nicholas Chickanis, Ava Kill, Sophie Kill, Sebastian Kill, Kevin Kill, Sarah Kill and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her daughter in law, Tammy Chickanis.

The family wishes to thank the home care girls, Sherry Cleveland, Dawna Sipowicz, Ginny Dutson, June Gaulin, Dyna Carlisle, and Paula Brodrick for the special love and care given to Rose during her illness. Also, they send a very special thank you to their close family friends, Anne Catalfamo and the late Chuck “Cat” Catalfamo for their continuing support through the years.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, on the park, in Hudson Falls with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will be later in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery, in the town of Fort Edward.

In lieu of flowers, Rose’s family suggests that memorial donations in her memory be made to Alzheimer’s Association Northeastern, New York Chapter, 4 pine west Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205.

George R. Galusha

Galusha, GeorgeQUEENSBURY – George R. Galusha, 85, of Belle Ave., died in the arms of his grandsons, Matthew and Robert, and surrounded by his wife, and loving family, on Friday, March 24, 2017.

Born on September 26, 1931 in Fort Ann, he was the son of the late George L. and Izora (Paige) Galusha.

George graduated from Fort Edward High School and soon after, enlisted in the US Army. He was a proud veteran having served during the Korean War. During his time in the service, George married Geneva Leppard on October 21, 1952.

He enjoyed his job as Director of Research and Development at Chase Bag Company and made many friends during his lifelong career.

To know George was to love him. He had a great sense of humor that was appreciated by his family and friends. George also loved puttering with his woodworking and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Faith was an important part of George’s life. He was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson Falls, where he served as a deacon and elder.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his infant son, Stephen George Galusha.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Geneva L. Galusha of Queensbury; his children, Lynn M. Galusha Dumas of Hudson Falls, Judy A. Ovitt and her husband, Roger Ovitt, Jr. of Gansevoort and John M. Galusha of Hudson Falls; his grandchildren, Matthew B. Dumas, Richard G. Sheerer, Robert J. Sheerer and his wife, Staycia, Joshua M. Galusha, Amanda E. Ovitt and Roger L. Ovitt, III; his great grandchildren, Dylan, Joseph, Thomas, Robert, Richelle and Derrick Sheerer and Rylee Ovitt; his brothers and sisters; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours and the funeral will be private.

Burial will be in Pine View Cemetery in the town of Queensbury.

Margaret “Peg” J. Balcom

Balcom, MargaretGRANVILLE – Margaret “Peg” J. Balcom, 73, of State Route 22, went into the arms of the Lord, on Friday, March 24, 2017.

Born on August 25, 1943 in Pittsfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Margaret (Weiss) Hartwell.

Peg graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1962 and a year later, married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Wallace Balcom. They have been married 54 wonderful years. Peg and Wallace started their family with four wonderful children. Peg was the mom that every child dreamed of. Always there to listen and give good advice and most importantly, she had warm welcoming arms to embrace each tear with love. Peg was also a strong, loving and patient wife that Wallace always appreciated. She inspired her family, as Peg never had a mean thing to say about anyone. Peg was the salt of the earth. She always had her feet on the ground and most importantly was thankful for everything and everyone in her life.

Her faith played a large role in her life. She loved her Lord and lived her life according to the Scriptures, which was her legacy. Peg is now being held in the hands of the Lord, watching over her loved ones.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Lori Balcom Batty and her brother, Charles Hartwell.

Survivors include her loving husband, Wallace Balcom of North Granville; her children, Todd and his wife, Cinnamon Balcom of Granville, Peggy Holcomb and her husband, Daryl of Granville and Amy Barrett of Maryland; her grandchildren, Neil McDonald, Christopher Balcom and his wife, Sarah, Anthony Balcom, Philip Balcom, Joshua Barrett, Emily Barrett, Loriann Barrett, Mikayla Batty and Seth Batty; her sisters, Sue McDowell and her husband, Greg and Beth Martin and her husband, Bruce; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be private with the Rev. Kevin Gebo, pastor of the Truthville Baptist Church, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Truthville Baptist Church, 39 County Road 12, North Granville, NY 12854.

Burial will be later in the spring at Bethany Cemetery in Truthville.
