James B. Clear

Clear, JamesQUEENSBURY – James B. Clear, 60, of Algonquin Drive, went into the arms of the Lord, on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Born on February 13, 1957, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late James and Katherine Clear.

James was a 1975 graduate of Hudson Falls High School.  Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he proudly served his country.

On March 9, 1985, he married Jill Weir, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.

James worked as a Paper Technical Specialist for Chemtreat, based in Glen Allen, Virginia.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.

James enjoyed boating anywhere he could bring his fishing pole and camping with his family. He was active in youth baseball and the travel league with his son, Todd.  Most of all, James loved his family, they were the center of his life.

He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Jill Clear of Queensbury, his two children, Katie Davies and her husband, Tom of Ballston Lake and Todd Clear of Queensbury; he was a proud grandfather of Sean James Davies; his siblings, Vivian and Larry LaRose, Paulette and Henry Pelkey, Marianne Rourke, Patrick and Rose Clear and Joseph and Lisa Clear; his special uncle, Joseph Corsall; his three lifelong friends, Mike and Arlene Archambault and Paul Van Arsdal.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 18, 2017 at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Thomas “Tom” L. Rice

Rice, ThomasMYRTLE BEACH, SC; SMITHTOWN, NY; OAKDALE, NY – Thomas “Tom” L. Rice, 86, of Myrtle Beach and Long Island, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2017

Born in Hudson Falls on March 01, 1931, he was the son of Harry E. and Pearl (Wells) Rice.

Prior to graduating from Hudson Falls High School in 1948, Tom played trombone in the school band, under the direction of Maurice Whitney, and sang in the school choir, under the direction of Walter Ninesling.  A longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson Falls, Tom received private voice lessons due to the generosity of his Sunday School teacher, J. Walter Juckett.  Inspired and encouraged by these mentors, Tom majored in Trombone and minored in Vocal Performance at the Crane School of Music in Potsdam, earning his Bachelor’s degree in 1952.  He continued his education, earning his Master’s degree in Music from Columbia University in New York City.

Tom very proudly served in the US Navy from 1952 to 1954.  While stationed in Bainbridge, MD, he directed the recruit band, until his subsequent deployment to a destroyer in the Mediterranean Sea.  After his discharge, Tom returned to music, teaching in both North Syracuse and Schenectady before moving to Long Island.  He retired in 1985 from many dedicated years in the Music Department of the Sayville School System.  After retirement, he remained a highly sought-after, private piano instructor to dozens of Long Island students.

Blessed with a beautiful bass-baritone voice, Tom performed throughout his life.  He shared his gift with numerous choral societies, opera companies, churches and synagogues around Long Island, most notably as a featured soloist with the Babylon Chorale and the Old Bethpage Restoration Singers for more than forty years.  He was also an accomplished composer of choral music and a member of ASCAP – the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.

Tom is survived by his devoted wife, Maggie (Reilly) Rice of Myrtle Beach, daughter Sharlene (Rice) Wegner and her husband George, son Steven Rice, daughter Sharlet Rice, grandchildren Kevin and Kelli, his sister Jane (Rice) Story of Hudson Falls, his brother Edward Rice and wife Mary Beth of New Hartford, NY, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00AM on Saturday, September 16 at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church, 257 Middle Road, Sayville, NY.

June E. (LaPoint) Gratton

Gratton, JuneQUEENSBURY & FORT EDWARD – June E. (LaPoint) Gratton, 93, formerly of Dix Avenue and more recently of The Oaks in Fort Edward, peacefully passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017 at the Pines in Glens Falls.

Born on March 11, 1924, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Arthur J. and Eleanor (Usher) LaPoint.

June attended Ridge Street Elementary School and graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1942.

On Sept. 16, 1944, she married Richard E. Gratton in St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls.  He passed away on October 27, 2004, after 60 wonderful years of marriage.

June worked at the Glens Falls Insurance Company as a young woman and later in her life, enjoyed shopping, especially on QVC.  She loved spending time with her family and friends.  June always considered her longtime friend, Lois Phelps and her children, Dick, Bob, Connie, Carolyn, Tommy and Brian, and their spouses, as family.

Survivors include her son, James R. Gratton and his wife, Gina, of West Chazy; two granddaughters, Whitney Gratton and her husband, Brian Monroe of Bethesda, MD and Meredith Gratton of Plattsburgh; her brother, Richard A. LaPoint of Chicago, IL; her two nieces, Susanne Kesselring and her husband, Ron and Lisa LaPoint; and her nephew, David LaPoint.

Friends may call on Saturday, September 16th , her wedding anniversary, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Funeral Services will follow the calling hour at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, pastor of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church on the park in Hudson Falls, officiating.

The Rite of Committal will follow at Pine View Cemetery in the town of Queensbury, where June will be laid to rest next to her husband.

The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Ashley Elizabeth Coltrain

Coltrain, AshleyHUDSON FALLS – Ashley Elizabeth Coltrain, 18, of North Street, went into the Arms of the Lord and her mother on Wednesday, September 6, 2017.

Born on October 21, 1998, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Daniel T. Coltrain and the late Carolea (Wells) Coltrain.

She was a graduate of Hudson Falls Senior High School and was attending SUNY Adirondack.

Ashley worked at Six Flags Great Escape for the past 2 seasons.  She loved drawing, music, her family and no matter who you were and no matter what you were, you were always special to her. Ashley always had a smile on her face and was strong for everyone else.  She loved animals, especially her two ferrets who were like her babies. Raynebow Shaw was like a sister to her and Raynebow and Lisa Baurle were some of her closes friends

She is predeceased by her mother, Carolea L. Coltrain, and her paternal grandfather, Leon Richards.

Survivors include her father. Daniel T. Coltrain of Hudson Falls; her brother, Daniel R. “Remi” Coltrain of Hudson Falls; her grandparents, Donna D. Richards of Argyle, David and Linda Crandall of Stony Creek and Rick and Pat Jarvis of Hudson Falls; her aunts and uncles, Jeff and Michelle Richards of Argyle, Ondrea  Crandall and her significant other, Ken Filkins of Northville, Kellie (Richards) and James Stewart of Hickory,  NC  and Mark and Jacquie Richards of Fairbanks, AK, John and Erika Coltrain of Corinth, and Scott and Nichole Richards of Glens Falls and Nikki Shaw and Kimberly Kibling, both of Hudson Falls; her close friend and cousin, Cadence Crandall as well as many other close cousins.

A memorial service will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, after the calling hours at the funeral home, with the Reverend Mark Bailey, pastor of Oneida Community Church, officiating.

Raymond A. Taylor Jr.

Taylor, RaymondKINGSBURY- Raymond A. Taylor Jr., 64, road off into the clouds from Albany Medical Center on Sunday, September 3, 2017.

Born on December 21, 1952 in Glens Falls he was the son of the late Raymond Andrew Taylor, Sr. and Mabel Mae Stark.

Raymond was a Glens Falls High School 1970 graduate and attended Adirondack Community College in the first computer classes offered.

On October 26, 1980, he married Pamela LaVoy at Lake George.

Raymond worked for Finch Pruyn for 42 years before his retirement.

He was a member of Adirondack HOGS and Adirondack Riders. Raymond’s greatest joy was his grandchildren. He loved long trips on his motorcycle, including riding to California for his honeymoon. Raymond loved fixing computers, he loved to watch his sons wrestle and bowl. He loved his children dearly.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Dawn Chamberlain-Lathbury

Survivors include his wife, Pamela LaVoy of Glens Falls; his children, Raymond A. Taylor, III and his wife, Stacey of Farmington, NY, Michael and his wife, Theresa of Manassas, Virginia, and Jennifer Taylor of Kingsbury; his grandchildren, Andrew Sandow, Zackary Sandow, Elliana Long; his sister Marybeth Tenne and her husband, Donald of Queensbury, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to thank all his friends at McDermitts Harley Davidson in Fort Ann for all their support.

Services will be at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Zachery T. Brown

Brown, ZacharySOUTH GLENS FALLS Zachery T. Brown, 16, of South Glens Falls , passed away unexpectedly due to injuries received in a motor vehicle accident on  Thursday, August 31, 2017, in the town of Moreau

Born on December 9, 2000, in Glens Falls, he was the son of Justin Brown and Donna Randle.

As a student of South Glens Falls High School, he was attending BOCES in their Step-Up program.

He loved hanging out with family and friends, especially Nana and Poppa. He liked camping and hiking and fishing. He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and was loved by everyone who knew him.

Zachery was predeceased by his grand parents Darlene and Marcel Hemingway.

Survivors in addition to his parents, include his sister, Justina-Marie Brown of South Glens Falls; his grandparents, Thomas Randle and Donna Smith of Fort Edward; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Gospel Lighthouse Church on LaCrosse St. in Hudson Falls.

Services will be conducted on Wednesday, following the calling hours at 7 p.m. at the church with The Rev. Paul Mead, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will be private.

Carolea L. (Wells) Coltrain

Coltrain, CaroleaHUDSON FALLS – Carolea L. (Wells) Coltrain, 40, of Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 27, 2017.

Born on March 12, 1977 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of David and Linda (Adams) Crandall.

Carolea was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School.

She was an aide at Hudson Falls Margaret Murphy School and also worked at the Gap Outlet.  Carolea loved fashion and collecting shoes.

She had a huge heart and always saw the good in everyone, no matter who you were.  Carolea gave her all in every job she took on and was an asset at each place of employment.  She was a wonderful mom and a fantastic woman who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Carolea was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Ilene and Charles Adams and Dorothy Crandall.

Survivors include her children, Ashley Elizabeth Coltrain, Daniel R. “Remi” Coltrain, and Wyatt Tardiff, all of Hudson Falls; her parents, David and Linda Crandall of Stony Creek; her sister, Ondrea Crandall of Northville; her half sisters, Kelly O’Rouke and her husband, Scott of Burnt Hill and Leila Pouliot of New Hampshire; her significant other, William “Bill” Tardif of Hudson Falls; her niece, Cadence Crandall; and close friends, whom she thought of as her sisters, Nikki Shaw and Kimberly Kibling.

Francis H. Wyss

Wyss, FrancisHUDSON FALLS and EAST HAMPTON, LI– Francis “Frank” H. Wyss, 93, of Hudson Falls and formerly of East Hampton, LI, passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2017.

Born on February 16, 1924, in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Joseph and Theresa (Zihlar) Wyss.

Frank served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945, serving in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe during WWII.  Because of his heroic service, he was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with four bronze battle stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

Frank worked with his brother Joe’s Excavating company in Deer Park most of his life.  At the age of 86, he worked part time at East Hampton High School District, as a custodian, just to keep himself busy.  Frank worked there for three years.

He and his wife, Ethel loved to travel in their motor home, stopping in over a dozen states. In 2013, he moved to Hudson Falls to live with his step daughter, Pat.  At the age of 91, he traveled to Jamaica to attend his grandson, Paul’s wedding.  He like to go to the Saratoga Races with his son, James and had a special bond with is great grandchildren, Casey and Ethan Boucher and Jackson and Emma Wyss.

Frank was a generous, gentle man, never raising his voice to anyone and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.  He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Mary (Traffica) Wyss and his second wife, Ethel (Grover) Mullen, whom he married on August 14, 1976, also his siblings, Theresa “Tess” Wood and Joseph Wyss and his son in law, Paul Boucher.

Frank is survived by his son, James Wyss and his significant other, Linda of Saratoga; his step children, John Mullen and his wife, Earlinda of Lufkin, TX, Phillip Mullen, Sr, and his wife, Ellen of Hyattsville, MD, Edward Mullen of Hudson Falls and Patricia (Mullen) Boucher of Hudson Falls; sister, Marie Trabona of Deer Park, LI; 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Thursday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Mangano Funeral Home, Inc., 1701 Deer Park Avenue in Deer Park, NY.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the Mangano Funeral Home in Deer Park.

Burial will follow the service at Calverton National Cemetery in Wading River, New York.

Walter “Bud” Wall

Wall, WalterHUDSON FALLS – Walter “Bud” Wall, 73, of Spring Street, passed away peacefully at his home, on Friday, August 25, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on July 20, 1944 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Walter and Margaret (Cassant) Wall.

Following high school, Bud enlisted in the United States Marines, where he proudly served in the Vietnam War.

On January 29, 1967, he married Elaine Jones at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson Falls.  They have been married 50 wonderful years.

After Bud’s honorable discharge, he began working at Ciba Geigy in Queensbury, Native Textiles in Glens Falls and eventually retiring from Coca Cola.

He was a member of the Hudson Falls American Legion Post 574.

Bud enjoyed wood carving, drawing, nature, hunting and fishing in the Adirondacks.  Most of all he loved spending time with his family. They meant the world to him.  Bud will be greatly missed by his family and his friends.

He was survived by his loving wife, Elaine Wall; his three children, Sonja Matteson and her husband, Thomas, Walter “Butch” Wall and his wife, Melissa and Aaron Wall and his significant other, April Lyng; his seven grandchildren, Mariha Edwards, Corey Wall, Shawn Wall, Zachary Wall, Caitlin Wall, Amanda Matteson and Megan Matteson; his two great grandchildren, Brayton and McKenna Edwards; his two sisters, Patricia Wall and Margaret Sunderland; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Gail Ann Favata

Favata, GailHUDSON FALLS – Gail Ann Favata, 64, passed away surrounded by her loving family on August 24, 2017. At Saratoga Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on March 3, 1953, in Rochester, she was the daughter of the late Elwood and Leona (Bradt) Cannon.

Gail was a graduate of Rush Henrietta Central School District in Henrietta.

She worked for 37 years for the New York State Department of Transportation and was a member of the Civil Service Employee’s Association (CSEA).  She loved antiquing, flea markets gardening and home décor. Gail loved going to the ocean, especially Old Orchard Beach, Maine.  Her grandchildren were her life.  She also loved to shop for her granddaughter Emma.  Gail also enjoyed travelling with her life partner, Peter LaPlante.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brother, Gordon Cannon.

She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Fisher and her husband, Jason of Saratoga Springs and Cammie Smith and her husband, Russell; her three beautiful grandchildren, Jordan Buchas, Jake Potter and Emma Potter; her step grandchildren, Rusty, Hannah and Logan Smith; her life partner, Peter LaPlante of Hudson Falls; the father of her children and close family friends, Joseph and Nancy Favata; and her close friends, Barb and Jim Cary; her sister, Beverly Brugno of Virginia Beach, VA and Gail’s beloved twin sister Judy Randall; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will take place on Friday, September 1, 2017 at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc, 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls with Chaplain Rich Hoffman, officiating.

Thomas C. Steele

Steele, ThomasKINGSBURY—Thomas C. Steele, 88, of Dean Road, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Glens Falls Hospital after a short illness.

He was born March 1, 1929, in Kingsbury, the son of the late Thomas W. and Gladys M. (Colson) Steele.  He married Jane B. Middleton on Aug. 20, 1950.

Tom’s life was all about family, friends, and farming.  Tom milked his first cow at the age of five and lived and breathed dairy farming from then on.  As a dairy farmer, he was a keen businessman and ran a successful farm for decades.  Tom was a committeeman for the FHA, ASC, and served on the Advisory Committee for Farm Credit East.  He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.

He loved to spend time with his family.  Those who knew Tom would remember him for his storytelling, unforgettable sense of humor, and sharp wit.  Tom and Jane owned a camp on Hadlock Pond for 20 years and hosted an untold number of events with family and friends.  He bowled with the Automotive League for nearly 40 years, was a charter member of the Barnstormers Snowmobile Club, and drew tractors over 25 years at the Washington County Fair.  In his retirement, Tom loved to watch the world go by from his front porch waving at friends and strangers alike.

He was predeceased by his brother, James and his wife, Lucille.

He is survived by his wife, Jane of 67 years; his brother, Bob and his wife, Josephine; daughter, Debra Loftus (Peter), son, Cameron (Karen), daughter, Janet Spaulding (Gary); his son in law, Don Anderson; seven grandchildren, Scott Anderson (Jennifer), Kyle Anderson, Benjamin Steele (Shanna), Bryan Steele (Deann), Eric Spaulding (Johanna), Justin Spaulding (Melissa), Cary Kahmann (Ryan); step-grandchild, Shannon Spaulding; seven great grandchildren, Sophie Anderson, Katie, Bella and Noah Spaulding, Mason and Cayden Steele, Hudson Kahmann; great stepchildren, Ricky Chase and Emily Mitchell; in addition to several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no calling hours as per Tom’s request.  The family wishes that memorials be made to Kingsbury Baptist Church, c/o Sylvia Weaver 153 Dean Rd, Hudson Falls, NY 12839.

 

William A. White

White PA PhotoFORT ANN – William A White, 60, a life-long resident of Fort Ann, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017, with his loving family by his side. Bill was born May 1, 1957 to Alpha Barras White and Jean Harlow Reynolds of Fort Ann.

Bill would tell you his greatest accomplishments were his children. His daughter, Nicole White Eisenschmidt (husband Eric) and his son Alpha Joseph White (wife Randi ). AND his pride and joy: His Grandchildren, Riley Jennifer Echeandia, Aidan Matthew Echeandia, and Sheridan Rose White. They proudly called him “Poppa”.  They were his Bean, Big Unit,  Scooter!, and his step-children, Sarah, Justin and Kristin Eisenschmidt.

He attended and Graduated from Fort Ann Central where he met his wife of 42 years, Pamela Flint White.

After Graduation, he worked for Frank Parrish Trucking. Frank was a wonderful friend and father figure not merely an employer.

On October 10, 1981, Bill went to work as a Prison Guard at Great Meadow CF where he worked for 25 years. In his tenure there, Bill was an active member of Council 82, Local 1279 before becoming President of that Local.  He served his members proudly before moving up to a Statewide board position for Council 82 which included Labor Relations Specialist and then Staff Representative.

He was a past member of the Fort Ann School Board.

After retiring, Bill started his own business, W.A. White Trucking. He was an owner/operator of heavy hauling, working exclusively for Peckham Materials Corp.

In addition to his Dad and Mom, he was predeceased by a daughter, Jennifer Lee White, and a beloved nephew, Mychael A Flint.

Bill is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. His brother Alpha Scott (wife Kathy) and sister Cathy Graham (Chuck), as well as many In-Laws, Patricia Greene, Sandra Heath (Reggie), Kelly Hoard (Ray), Harry, Kim Winchell (John), and Amy Peque (Bob). Plenty of nieces and nephews (Matthew/Kara Steves, Tara/Shane Cody, Lou/Erica Graham, Kate/Kara White, Jimmy, Jeff/Brit Greene, Melissa/Ed Moore, Krista Heath, Danny, Ryan/Ashley, Steven Sharp, Ashley/Tad, Erica, Megan Flint, Christopher/Laura Winchell, Keri/Tom Amend, Kait/Collin Stipe… Along with many great-nieces & nephews.

Bill had many friends and relatives and he lived his life always looking out for the underdog. He was always there to lend a hand.

Burns, AnnetteSOUTH GLENS FALLS – Annette Marie Burns, 52, of South Glens Falls, went into the arms of the Lord on Monday, August 21, 2017, at Mary’s Haven in Saratoga Springs.

Born on May 20, 1965, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Caroline (Reed) LaCarte.

Annette was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School.

For many years she worked as a waitress at Good Times, formerly in Hudson Falls and BJ’s Wholesale Club as a baker in Saratoga Springs.

Annette was active in a cancer support group.  She enjoyed dancing, country music, motorcycling, fishing, yard saleing and Dirty John’s hotdogs.  Most of all, Annette loved her family and was devoted to her two girls.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister in law, Gail LaCarte.

She is survived by her two daughters, Caroline Elizabeth Burns and Caer Lynn “KiKi” Alannah Burns, both of Waterford; her siblings, Marva Henderson and her husband, Ron of Arizona, Joseph LaCarte of Arizona, Karen Kelley and her husband, Howard of Hudson Falls and Michael LaCarte of PA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Rite of Committal will be 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at St. Alphonsus Cemetery in West Glens Falls.
