Richard A. “Rick” Diamond

Diamond, Rick Prayer Card Diamond, RickHUDSON FALLS – Richard A. “Rick” Diamond, 59, of Hudson Falls, passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by his loving wife, on Saturday, December 16, 2017.

Born on June 22, 1958, he was the son of Joan Ellen (Canales) Diamond and the late Robert Edward Diamond.

Rick was a 1976 graduate of Hudson Falls High School and continued his education at Adirondack Community College, where he met his wife, Jennifer Firlik.  They were married June 5, 1982, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.

Rick spent his 22 year law enforcement career with the Hudson Falls Police Department, retiring as a Detective.  He was very dedicated and respected by his fellow officers.  Rick felt honored being able to serve his community and working alongside his law enforcement family.  Currently, Rick was a School Safety Officer and formerly a CDL instructor at BOCES.  He was President of the Lake George Chapter of the Road Dawgs, where he was known as “Breeze”.  The group is a 100% law enforcement motorcycle club, honoring fallen law enforcement officers and holding charity events.  Rick also served as The National Road Boss.   He was a member of the Hudson Falls PBA.  Rick loved his law enforcement career, but his family was the center of his life.   He was best friend to his wife, Jennifer and a role model to his sons and his entire family.  His greatest joy was being Papa to his grandchildren.  He always said, “Every time they leave, my face hurts from smiling so much”.  Rick cherished the friendship that he shared with his brothers and treasured the special relationship he had with his mother.  His presence was always felt by the many who filled his life.   Rick and Jenn lived every day to the fullest, as if it was their last.  Every moment spent together will be forever cherished.

Besides his father, he was predeceased by his mother and father in law, Janet and Joseph Firlik, his brothers in law, Joseph Firlik, John Firlik, Vernon Frenia and Jim Kordziel, his sister in law, Juliet Firlik Hurley.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 wonderful years, Jennifer Diamond; his sons, Kyle Diamond and his wife, Joelle and Jason Diamond and his special daughter in law, Kate Diamond; his five grandchildren, Griffin, Raegan, Evelyn, Greyson and Knox; his mother, Joan Diamond; his brothers, Robert “JR” Diamond and his wife, Sue and Randy Diamond and his wife, Wendy; the Many J’s (Firliks); and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and his life long friend, Tim Burke and his wife, Michelle.

Calling hours for the law enforcement community will be from 3 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church, on the park in Hudson Falls.

Calling hours for the public will follow from 4 to 8 p.m., at the church.

Rick’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church.

The Rite of Committal will be in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund Supports Services, 901 E. Street, N.W. Suite 100, Washington, DC 20004-2025.

Alan T. Hamell

Hamell, AlanQUEENSBURY – Alan T. Hamell, also known by his friends as “Big Al”, passed away suddenly, on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at his home, after heart failure.

Born on August 22, 1964, in Albany, he was the son of Carol (Hamell) Sodemann and Thomas Harris.

Alan attended Queensbury High School.

He worked for many years with his childhood friend, Donnie Dean, in the roofing business.  Alan Loved being outside and spent many hours fishing anywhere there was water.  Every morning he cherished his cup of coffee and reading the paper at Stewarts.  He loved his two dogs, Harley and Harold.   Alan was a good man who would help others before helping himself.  He felt his greatest accomplishment was his son, Zachary.  Alan was known for his sharp wit and always wearing his cowboy boots.   You couldn’t catch him at any affair, without his boots.

He was predeceased by, his grandparents, Wanda and Carl Hamell, his uncle, Michael Hamell, his cousin, Theresa Chwazik and his dog, Sassy.

Alan is survived by his loving son, Zachary Hamell; his mother, Carol (John) Sodemann; his siblings, Laurie (Tim) Whalen, Carrie (Michael) Lorrain, his “baby sis”, Jeri Lynn (Robert) Ferri, Kenneth (Alisha) Hanley and Debbie Harris LaPoint; Zachary’s mother, Claudia Winchell; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Friday, December 22, 2017 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.

Prayers will be offered at 2 p.m. by Pastor Keith Mann, officiating.

Leona M. Collins

Collins, LeonaHUDSON FALLS – Leona M. Collins, 88, died on Wednesday, December 14, 2017 from complications of Alzheimer’s.

She was born in Glens Falls on February 12, 1929, the daughter of the late John William Leppard and Geneva LaFarr Leppard.

Leona was the loving wife for over sixty years to Winfred Allen Collins who predeceased her.

Leona’s life was filled with children, grandchildren, travel and sports.

Her travels included nearly all of the United States and Europe. For over twenty years she was a semi-pro bowler, and in her youth, she played softball. In the 1960’s and 70’s Leona was a professional wedding cake baker.

A very warm and attentive mother, she leaves behind two children: Ronald W. (Jan) Collins of Hebron, NH and Michael E. (Jennifer Irwin) Collins of Argyle; as well as two grandchildren: Christopher I.V.M. Collins of Bellingham, MA and Sean M.D. (Susan Johnson) Collins of Northumberland; three great grandchildren; Zanthius, Eban and Accalia Collins.

She was one of fourteen children of which two sisters, Dorothy Leppard of Fort Edward and Donna Bohlman of Hudson Falls, remain.

Viewing will be at the Carleton Funeral Home in Hudson Falls, NY from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, December 18, 2017, with services immediately following.

The Rite of Committal will be held in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.

James “Big Guy” Cabral

Cabral, JamesKINGSBURY – James “Big Guy” Cabral, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born in Somerville, MA, the son of the late Edward and Elizabeth Cabral.

James moved to New York 35 years ago.  He was a true craftsman and proud owner of a small construction company, A Plus Home Improvement.

James touched the hearts of many, he leaves behind his loving wife, Lynn (Vaughn) Cabral; and his son, Dalton Cabral (his pal); along with a large extended family and a great group of friends.  James will be missed by all.

No services are planned at this time.

Beverly Hitchcock

Hitchcock, BeverlyKINGSBURY – Beverly Hitchcock, 79, of Kingsbury, went into the arms of the Lord on Monday, December 11, 2017, at the Fort Hudson Nursing Center

Born October 20, 1938, in Whitehall, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Florence (Hammond) McNaughton.

On May 2, 1959, she married Collins Hitchcock in Glens Falls.  Collins passed away on January 7, 2017, after 57 years of marriage.

For many years she worked as a switchboard operator at the Glens Falls Hospital.

She was a member of the Kingsbury Baptist Church.

Beverly and her husband enjoyed wintering in Florida.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by two brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by her four children, Tammy Stopinski and her husband, Dean of Murfreesboro, TN, Kevin Hitchcock and his wife, Debbie of Springer, OK, Cynthia Pratt and her husband, Rob of Queensbury and Todd Hitchcock and his wife, Tina of Kingsbury; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.

A funeral service will follow the calling hours on Friday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment with take place at Kingsbury Cemetery, in the spring.

Darlene A. Drew

Drew, DarleneGANSEVOORT – Darlene A. Drew, 59, of Gansevoort, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on August 18, 1958, in Saratoga Springs, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Lillian (Robinson) Defoe. On April 6, 1996, she married Joseph Drew at Fort Hardy in Schuylerville.

Darlene enjoyed baking and spending time with her children, grandchildren and family

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by a daughter, April Diaz-Campbell, a grandson Brett Diaz, a brother Robert DeFoe and a sister, Debbie Smith.

Darlene is survived by her husband of 21 years, Joseph Drew of Gansevoort, her children, Alexandria Diaz and her fiancé, Matthew Stockwell of Queensbury, Antonio Diaz and his wife Tanya of Gansevoort. Christina Creech and her husband, Siatar of Gansevoort, Angelia Diaz and her husband, Jay of New York City, Stephanie DeFoe and Mike Splunge  of Hudson Falls and Michelle DeFoe of New York City; A granddaughter, Emily Humiston; several other grandchildren; a brother, Dennis DeFoe of Florida; a sister June DeFoe of Arizona; a brother Michael DeFoe of South Glens Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Darlene’s request, there are no services scheduled and please make memorial donations to the child abuse organization of one’s choice.

Elsie K. O’Donnell

ODonnell, Elsie 1ODonnell, Elsie 2HUDSON FALLS –  Elsie K. O’Donnell, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Glens Falls Hospital on Sunday December 3rd, 2017.

She was born on October 11, 1932 in Cambridge, NY; the daughter of the late Raymond and Irene (Alliger)  Fort.

Elsie graduated from Hudson Falls High in 1950.   Upon graduation, she worked at the Marinette Paper Company and General Electric, before a long standing career as a bank teller for the First National Bank of Glens Falls.   Elsie retired in 1994.   During her banking career, she was well known for her sweet, warm, caring smile and customers would wait on her line just so they could say hello.  She earned numerous Presidents Award honors for her outstanding work at the bank.   This was a job she truly loved.  Her quiet loving kindness and compassion went far beyond her work life; it was the centerpiece of her family life.   She instilled those traits in all of her four sons and her grandchildren.   Elsie cared about others before herself, donating regularly to the local soup kitchen, St Jude’s Children Hospital and her church.

Elsie had a strong faith in God from a very early age.   She taught Sunday School to children during her younger years at The Advent Christian Church in Hudson Falls; also playing piano and singing in the chorus.  She was also a regular attendee at Pine Knolls Alliance Church in Gansevoort.  Her kind warmth was felt by everyone who knew her.

Besides her parents, Elsie was predeceased by her husband’s Robert Morency and Barry “Lefty” O’Donnell; one son, Kim “Bah” Morency; her two brothers John and Chuck Fort; sister in laws, Assunta “Tina” Fort and Marie Fort; and her long-time companion Raymond Havens.

Elsie is survived by her three sons; David Morency ( Debbi Bearden), Brian O’Donnell ( Jessica McKenzie) and Kelly O’Donnell ( Jody Nolan) and grandchildren; Kelley Morency, JC Morency, Tess Morency, Michael O’Donnell, Rachel O’Donnell and Maddy O’Donnell; one sister in law, Jackie Fort; and her dear long-time friend who was like a sister to her, Sally Barker.

The family would like to thank some special friends who helped mom in so many ways over these past several months; Carol Dudley, Raeanne (Havens) Willis, Nancy Havens and Tom and Bev Brown.   The family would also like to thank Dr. Stoutenburg; and the nurses at Glens Falls Hospital Tower 2 for the tremendous care they provided our mom.

Elsie’s greatest joy truly was her family. She had such a close relationship with each of her four loving and devoted sons and all of her grandchildren.   Her sweet smile and kind gentle way will be missed immensely; we are blessed to have so many great memories of such an incredible mom.

Burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, in Fort Edward, will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Harold John Rose

WHITEHALL – Harold John Rose, 59, of Whitehall, went into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, November 30, 2017, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on July 8, 1958, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Milo and Mary Rose.

John attended Glens Falls High School before enlisting in the United States Army.  He was very proud to have served his country.  For his service, he was awarded the Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Metal, the M16 Sharpshooter Ribbon and the NCO Professional Development Ribbon.

Following his discharge, he had attended Monterey Peninsula College, studying Criminal Justice.  For many years he worked for British Petroleum Oil in California.  Several years ago, he moved Whitehall, where he worked as a Facilities Manager for Cumberland Farms.

John enjoyed fishing, being outdoors and spending time with his family.  He liked being all dressed up and dapper, especially in his fancy sweaters.  John also enjoyed traveling, history and reading.  He always wanted to share what he had learned from his books.  John will be remembered for being a religious man, a proud veteran and a Grandpa who loved to give his grandchildren hugs.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Milo Rose, Jr., Sylvester “Joe” Rose, Robert Rose and Michael “Mike” Rose and his sister, Mary Kingsbury.

He is survived by his brother, Henery (Pamela) Rose of Queensbury; two people he considered and loved like his own children, Thomas Burch of Fort Ann and Christine (Howard) Hurd of Hudson Falls; his six grandchildren, whom they lovingly referred to him as Grandpa Hug Hug; and several nieces and nephews.

Burial with full military honors will be 9 am on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in the town of Stillwater.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Albany Medical College, Anatomical Gift Program, 47 New Scotland Ave, Albany, NY 12208.

Dale A. Summerville

Summerville, DaleHUDSON FALLS – Dale Allan Summerville (CHIP), 59 of Hudson Falls, passed away Sunday November 26, 2017 at Glens Falls Hospital, following a brief illness.

Dale was the son of the late Harold and Wilma Summerville.  He is the brother of 3 sisters, Gayle, Dawn, and Annie.  He is the father of his two children, Daniel Allan Summerville and Dale E. Summerville – Ladd.  Dale was a very loved grandpa of all seven of his grandchildren, as well as a very loved uncle to his nieces and nephews.

Dale (CHIP) was a proud Veteran of the United States Army.  He loved to play pool and was very good at it.  He shot on pool leagues for many years, including his latest league this year at the VFW in Glens Falls.

He drove taxi cab for several years. Dale was very loved by many, including all of his friends he had made while driving cab.  Dale also loved going fishing and enjoyed large bonfires, as well as going hunting and snowmobiling with his close friends.

He will be forever in all of our hearts, along with the SEVERAL jokes he told over the years.

May he rest in peace and be free of all pain.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on December 14, 2017, at the VFW, 30 Cooper St, Glens Falls, NY 12801.

Jonathan E. Martin

Martin, JonathanMartin, Jonathan2GLENS FALLS – Jonathan Edgar Martin, son of Wilma Oddy of Glens Falls, and Michael Martin of Rochester, passed of a sudden heart attack.

Jonathan, born January 14, 1971, passed November 23, 2017, Thanksgiving morning, at his home with his mother at his side.

He we a 1989 graduate of Glens Falls High School.  Jon proudly served in the United States Army for five years.  He spent nearly a year in the Persian Gulf. He was proud to be a crew chief, nicknamed “Chunk”, on a black hawk helicopter.

Jon will be remembered by his friends and family for his uncanny ability to make everyone laugh and smile.  He always went out of his way to help someone, whether it be a neighbor, or a complete stranger.  At the end of his day, he loved spending time on his computer while sipping an ice-cold Bud.  He was also an avid NASCAR fan and especially  liked Tony Stewart.

Jon was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Edgar and Wilhelmina Gregory; and an uncle, Bruce Paul Gregory.

Besides his parents, Jon leaves behind his sister; Leah L Thomas, and her husband, David, of Warren, Pennsylvania; a brother, Matthew S. Oddy, and his wife, Amy, of Cumming, Georgia; many aunts and uncles, and several nieces and nephews, along with many friends.

Friends may call from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, Hudson Falls.

A graveside service, with full military honors, will be held Tuesday, November 28, 2017, 2:30 p.m., at the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery, on Duell Rd in the town of Stillwater.

Theresa Derby

derbyFORT EDWARD – Theresa Derby, 88, of Fort Edward, New York, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Glens Falls Hospital.

 

She was born on October 6, 1929 in Saratoga, New York, the daughter of the late Edward and Mildred (Swan) Stevens. Her grandmother Pearl, raised Theresa in Vermont until she was three, when she moved to Hudson Falls.

 

Theresa was a cheerleader and graduated top of her class in Hudson Falls in 1947. As a teenager she converted to Catholicism. She loved the church and was a devout Catholic the remainder of her life. She married Robert in 1949; they lived and loved happily together for sixty-eight years. Theresa was an avid reader. She enjoyed golf, bowling, and playing cards with friends.  She and Robert loved traveling, and they spent several years as snowbirds in Florida.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was good to all and feisty to the end.

 

Theresa was predeceased by her parents, four siblings, and her brother-in-law Earl. She is survived by her husband Robert, her loving children Lloyd, Lynn, and Paul; her grandchildren Robert, Julie, Nicholas, Matthew and Lori, and great grandchildren; Jack, Brianna, Sabrina, Kyron, Adam, Jake, Kyle, Lucien, Willow, Austin, Brady, and Alivia. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Fawn and Louise, and brother-in-law Gene.

 

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, November 26, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc. 68 Main Street, Hudson Falls.

 

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 27 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Church in Hudson Falls.

 

The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fort Edward.

Patricia J. Gage

Gage, PatriciaFORT EDWARD – Patricia J. Gage, 72, of McCrea Street, went into the arms of the Lord, on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on March 17, 1945, in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Ada (Londue) Chadwick.

On September 20, 1976, she married Dennis W. Gage, Sr.  They have been together for the past 57 years.

She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and her cat, Sissy.

Patricia will be remembered for being a very strong woman, who was loving, caring and supportive to everyone she knew, especially to her family.  She was a wonderful wife, mother and an awesome grandmother.  She doted on her grandchildren and loved to spoil them, even during her last hour.  On her last day, she was trying to lift her family’s spirits.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Mark Gage, her two brothers, Gary Chadwick and Steven Chadwick.

Patricia is survived by her husband, Dennis W. Gage, Sr. of Fort Edward; her children, Dennis W. Gage, Jr. and his wife, Mary of Hudson Falls, Dawn Dickson and her husband, Donald of Glens Falls, Daniel Gage of Fort Edward, Thomas Gage of Argyle, Virginia Bombard of Warrensburg, Nancy Mallory and her husband, Ray of Florida, Terri Pero and her husband, Sid of Michigan, Beth Haines and her husband, Darrell of Queensbury and Angelina Gonzolez of Florida; many grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Patricia’s request there are no public services planned.

Ann S. Wells

Wells, AnnHUDSON FALLS – Ann S. Wells, 70, of Hudson Falls, went into the arms of the Lord on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at her home, with her family by her side.

Born on August 12, 1947 in Lake George, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Beatrice Wells.

Ann loved children, laughter and looking at photo’s.  She enjoyed the most simple things of life that most people take for granted.  Ann loved listening to music and dancing.  The center of her life was being around family and enjoying their visits.   Most people will remember her as always having a smile on her face.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brother, Samuel Wells.

Survivors include her brother, Arthur Well of Argyle, Joseph Wells also of Argyle and William Wells of Hudson Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.     Prayers will be offered at 7:45 p.m. by Rev. Larry Cooper.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Union Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.
