HUDSON FALLS – Albert C. ‘Sonny’ Huguley, Jr., 78, a longtime resident of Russell Street in Hudson Falls, passed away peacefully at his home, on Monday, April 21, 2025, following a long illness, with his loving, dedicated companion Barbara by his side.
Born July 2, 1946, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Albert C. and Eleanor (Smith) Huguley, Sr.
Sonny was a 1964 graduate of Hudson Falls High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1967. When he returned to the area, he worked with his father for Al Huguley & Son General Roofing as a Roofing Specialist and Steeplejack. Sonny’s fixed church steeples from Cooperstown all the way up to the Canadian border. He took great pride in his work. One of his memorable projects was saving the Cross at St. Paul’s Church following the church fire in 1974.
After his career as a steeplejack, Sonny worked at Pfizer and Boston Scientific before falling ill.
Sonny was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting. In his younger days, he loved to dance and was always the first one on the dance floor. He loved custom cars and motorcycles. He enjoyed spending time in Lake George during the Americade and Car Show week. Sonny loved watching scary movies, westerns and anything about Jeremiah Johnson.
He was an animal lover and respected all animals. Some would say he was a “squirrel whisperer”; not many people could get a family of squirrels eating out of their hand. Sonny respected all animals and especially loved all his four-legged fur companions.
In addition to his parents, Sonny is predeceased by many of his four-legged best friends.
Survivors include his loving companion of forty-seven years, Barbara Sheehan of Hudson Falls; his children, Albert Huguley III (Candy) of Hudson Falls, Michael Huguley (Linda) of Glens Falls, and SusanLee Keith (Terry) of South Bay; his grandchildren, Matthew Huguley (Jackie) of Rochester, Ethan Huguley (Aubrey) of Queensbury, Ashley Foss of Glens Falls, Trace Keith (Sara Jane) of Gansevoort, Scott Keith of South Bay, and Allison Keith (Dylan) of South Glens Falls, and his great grandchildren, Bailey and Nash Keith. Sonny is also survived by his only sister, Theresa St. John (Phil) of South Glens Falls and their son, Jason St. John (Faith) and their son, Jacob, and numerous members of Barbara’s family. He also leaves behind his four-legged fur babies, Mocha and Lexi.
Friends may call on Sonny’s family from 5 pm to 7 pm, Friday, April 25, 2025, at Carleton Funeral Home, located at 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
A funeral service will begin at 7 pm immediately following calling hours at the funeral home.
A graveside service will take place at 11am on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the Town of Fort Edward.
The family would like to acknowledge and especially thank Sonny’s sister, Theresa, for all the assistance, care, compassion, love and support that she provided to Sonny and Barbara throughout the years and during this difficult time. They are extremely grateful.
