QUEENSBURY – Alan T. Hamell, also known by his friends as “Big Al”, passed away suddenly, on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at his home, after heart failure.
Born on August 22, 1964, in Albany, he was the son of Carol (Hamell) Sodemann and Thomas Harris.
Alan attended Queensbury High School.
He worked for many years with his childhood friend, Donnie Dean, in the roofing business. Alan Loved being outside and spent many hours fishing anywhere there was water. Every morning he cherished his cup of coffee and reading the paper at Stewarts. He loved his two dogs, Harley and Harold. Alan was a good man who would help others before helping himself. He felt his greatest accomplishment was his son, Zachary. Alan was known for his sharp wit and always wearing his cowboy boots. You couldn’t catch him at any affair, without his boots.
He was predeceased by, his grandparents, Wanda and Carl Hamell, his uncle, Michael Hamell, his cousin, Theresa Chwazik and his dog, Sassy.
Alan is survived by his loving son, Zachary Hamell; his mother, Carol (John) Sodemann; his siblings, Laurie (Tim) Whalen, Carrie (Michael) Lorrain, his “baby sis”, Jeri Lynn (Robert) Ferri, Kenneth (Alisha) Hanley and Debbie Harris LaPoint; Zachary’s mother, Claudia Winchell; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Friday, December 22, 2017 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
Prayers will be offered at 2 p.m. by Pastor Keith Mann, officiating.
