Sondra (Sandy) L. Michaud

HUDSON FALLS – Sondra (Sandy) L. Michaud, 80, of Hudson Falls passed away peacefully on October 11, 2020, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born to Leon and Louise (Nailor) Deyette on July 31, 1940 and was the seventh of fourteen children.

Sondra graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1958 and began working soon after.   Hard work, strength, resilience and perseverance all came naturally to her and it would be wrong to say that she lost her battle with kidney disease, as she never stopped fighting.

In 1971 she married, and blended families with her beloved husband Joseph, who was always by her side.   In their 48 years together, they owned and operated the Old Homestead Bar and Restaurant and the Rt. 4 Car Wash, both in Hudson Falls.  In addition to their businesses,  she was a licensed real estate agent, took many courses at SUNY Adirondack and was active within her local community.

Her biggest accomplishments, however, came in the pride she felt for her children and all of their successes.  She hoped to give them fond memories of the time spent around her and valued the summer barbecues, bocce ball games, and cooking for the people she loved.  Her pies especially, were always plentiful and delicious.

In addition to her parents, Sondra was predeceased by numerous brothers and sisters; her daughter, Christine Copeland; her son-in-law, Cesar Sanchez and her grandson, Austin Lutz.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Joseph Michaud; her two sisters, Darlene Davis and Candy (Maurice) St. Marie; her children, Paul (Linda) Michaud of Hudson Falls, Tim Copeland of Newark, Ohio, Belinda (Steve) Sundberg of Queensbury, Patricia Michaud of Pittsburgh, Pa, Colleen (Doug) Smith of Leesburg, VA and Susan Sanchez of Hudson Falls; ten grandchildren; Katie (Matt) Authier and their children, Reagan and Drew ; Tim (Becky) Copeland III and their children, Kinsley and Ashlyn ; Carolyn Sundberg, Bobby (Megan) Copeland Tylor Michaud, Jordan Lutz, Jada Smith, Dakota Smith, Mia Sanchez and Ava Sanchez, numerous cousins and 63 nieces and nephews.

At the family’s request, there will be no calling hours however a memorial mass will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fort Edward Rescue Squad or a charity of one’s choice.

The family would also like to thank Dr. Filion and his staff for their ongoing care of Sondra for over twenty years.
