SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Gloria L. Clear, 90, of South Glens Falls, passed away, after a brief illness on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at her home with her family by her side.
Born on August 8, 1927 in Fort Edward, she was the daughter of the late Gerald S. “Bucky” and Anne A. (Brown) Lewis.
Gloria graduated in 1944 from Fort Edward High School and continued her education at Oneonta State University, receiving her Bachelors in Education. Following her graduation, Gloria began her teaching career at Fort Edward, where she taught for eight years. For 36 years, from 1956 until her retirement in 1992, she worked as a second grade teacher in Hudson Falls. Gloria not only gave back by teaching children, but also volunteered with Widow Persons Service in Glens Falls and the Moreau Community Center. She was also a member of the Hudson Falls Retired Teachers Association and the New York State Retired Teachers Association.
Teaching and her family filled her life. Gloria loved family birthday parties and Sunday dinners. She was so very proud of her daughter, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gloria spent many hours watching her grandchildren’s sporting events and cheering them on. She also loved hosting pool parties, cookouts and end of the year parties with her students.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husbands, George “John” LaFarr, Howard Barrick and George “Duke” Clear.
Survivors include her daughter, Ellen McEntee and her husband, Glenn of South Glens Falls; her grandchildren, Cory McEntee and his wife, Genevieve of Fairfax, Virginia, Kara Wescott and her husband, Robert, Jr., Kelly Bush and her husband, Raymond of Newcomb and Keri McEntee and her significant other, Jeremy Brown of Fairbanks, Alaska; her great grandchildren, Jessica West, Hannah West, Taylor Wescott, Eric Ladd, Jr., Taylor Bush, Riley Bush, Brady McEntee, Garrett McEntee and Jordan McEntee; her sisters, Gerryanne Spring of Ogdensburg and Lynn Shea and her husband, Tom of Atlanta, Georgia; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and her faithful K9 companion, Sissy.
Friends may call on Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Moreau Community Center, 144 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803.
Gloria’s family would like to thank the staff at the Glens Falls Hospital Tower 2, the C.R. Wood Cancer Center and Community Hospice for all their care and compassion.
