QUEENSBURY – Richard Charles Lyons, 82, of Belle Avenue in Queensbury, went into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, February 12, 2017, at Glens Falls Hospital after a brief illness.
Born on December 11, 1934, in South Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Pauline (Plude) Lyons.
Richard was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy in Glens Falls in 1953. Shortly after, he enlisted in the US Navy. Richard served in the US Navy as an airplane mechanic from 1953 to 1957, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Navy Occupation Service Medal.
On November 27, 1953, Richard was united in marriage to Audrey E. Stanley at the United Methodist Christ Church in Glens Falls.
Richard was employed by Chase Bag for over 30 years. He retired in 1989 as a foreman.
He was a member of the Saratoga National Cemetery Honor Guard, American Legion # 1797 in Queensbury, VFW #6196, and was a volunteer fire fighter with the Hudson Falls Volunteer Fire Department. Richard enjoyed painting houses, both inside and out. He spent time fishing all over the north country. Richard enjoyed participating in his bowling league over the years. He was also a very skilled mechanic and had a talent for restoring cars to their original glory. Richard loved his dog, Cody.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey Lyons of Queensbury.
Audrey wishes to thank family members for their compassion and love during this difficult time.
There will be no services.
Burial will be at a later date at Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery in Stillwater.
