QUEENSBURY – Donald Joseph DuPrey, Sr., 83, passed away with his devoted wife and loving family by his side on Saturday, January 18, 2025.
The son of Kenneth DuPrey, Sr. and Elfreda Mae (Maynard) Bigelow, and John Bigelow (stepfather).
Don married the love of his life, Gloria Campney, on September 4, 1965, and enjoyed 59 years of unconditional love and devotion to each other.
Don was extremely proud of his time serving in the United States Marine Corp, achieving the rank of Corporal E4, while enlisted between 1958-1962. He was honored to be a proud veteran member of the American Legion Post 574 in Hudson Falls. Don is also a life member of the Fort Edward Rescue Squad and served for many years as Captain. He loved volunteering for the Lake George Elvis Festival for fifteen years, attending various events.
Don was employed by the Hudson Falls Central School District for over fifty years, holding many different positions. He enjoyed being busy and could always be found doing something, except for his afternoon nap.
Those that were privileged to know him, loved him. He took pride in everything he did. He instilled an exceptional work ethic in his children as well. He always said, “You Give 110%”.
Don enjoyed making chili for his family and friends, he could never finish a joke without erupting into laughter before he got to the punchline, and he had a piercing whistle that could make his adult children freeze in their tracks.
He loved his grandchildren, Amanda, Will, Megan, Jordan, Zachary, Abigail, Connor and Ian. He also had two great grandchildren, Eleanor “Ellie” and Avianna.
He was predeceased by his grandson, Zachary Joseph DuPrey and two brothers, Ken and Dick.
Those left to cherish his life, love and memories are his devoted wife, Gloria; his children, Valerie (Thomas) Twiss, Donald Jr. (Michele), Rebecca (Frederick Granger, Jr.), Kimberly (Kevin) Wertheim, a special son, Dan Lancette; Don’s siblings, Harry DuPrey and Sally Emerson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, at the funeral home.
A burial with military honors will follow, at 1:30 p.m. at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in the town of Stillwater.
A celebration of Don’s life will follow the military honors at the Hudson Falls American Legion, Post 574, Veterans Hall, on Pearl Street in Hudson Falls.
