William “Gunny” Robert Hazelton

QUEENSBURY – William “Gunny” Robert Hazelton, 76, of East Road, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, on Friday, August 24, 2018.

Born on October 22, 1941, in Albany, he was the son of the late Robert Hazelton and the late Myrtle (Eastman) Winslow.

Gunny was a graduate of Fort Edward High School.   He later earned his Associates Degree.

Gunny was a proud U.S. Marine, serving his country in Vietnam.  He retired from the service in 1978, as a Gunnery Sergeant Following his military service, Gunny served as a sheriff’s deputy in Norfolk, Virginia and later for the Warren County Sherriff’s Department.

Gunny loved to fish in the Adirondacks with his brother, Eric.   In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and golfing.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his soulmate, Phyllis “PJ” Conklin and his siblings, Carol Waite and Robert Hazelton.

Survivors include his siblings, Eric Roewer of Cambridge, Thomas Hazelton and his wife, Gail of Georgia, Terry Hazelton and his wife, Judy of Vermont, John Hazelton and his wife, Carol of CT, Rick Hazelton and his wife, Sherry of Florida, Brian Hazelton of Warrensburg, Donald Winslow and his wife, Amber of Queensbury and Michelle Lake of CA; his love, his life and his friend, Stacy Gray of Queensbury; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Graveside services with full military honors will be conducted on Friday, September 7, 2018, at 12 Noon, at the Gerald B.H. Saratoga National Cemetery in the town of Stillwater.

    I am sorry to have missed the honorary burial of my cousin William Hazelton. I knew him as Butch when we were kids and saw him many years later when there were deaths in our family.
