GEORGE’S MILLS, NH – William “Bill” G. Theis, 89, of George’s Mills, NH and formerly of East Glenville, passed away on January 9, 2019 at Concord Hospital in New Hampshire, after a brief illness.
Born on November 11, 1929 in Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late Walter and Mary (Houck) Theis.
After graduating from high school, Bill enlisted into the US Navy, during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
While serving his country, on December 30, 1950, Bill married his hometown sweetheart, Beverly Ford in Newfane, NY.
He spent his entire career in the newspaper industry. First as a typeset and then eventually retiring as head machinist at Albany Times Union. While at the Times Union, one of his proudest moments was setting up the computer terminals for the paper at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. Bill would also be called by other newspapers to troubleshoot computer problems. During his working career, Bill and his family lived in West Covina, CA and Glenville. He retired from the Times Union in 1992 and moved to the family summer home in George’s Mills, New Hampshire.
Bill loved camping with his family at Fish Creek in the Adirondacks for many years. He also enjoyed boating, waterskiing, trick skiing on a disk and fishing on Fish Creek ponds. Along with his wife, Beverly, he loved wintering in Palm Desert, CA with his Fifth Wheel.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers in law and sisters in law, Russell Dickinson, Irving and Joyce Manning and Emmett and Janice Manning.
Survivors include his loving wife, Beverly F. Theis of George’s Mills, NH; his devoted children, Linda and Bob Lemieux of Argyle, Gary Theis of George’s Mills, NH and Brian and Jing Theis of Irvine, CA; his sisters, Elaine Dickinson and Joan Prost, both of CA; his grandchildren, Joe and Shawna Theis, Jamie and Matt Durkee, Nick and Jessica Theis, Jennifer and Dave Leskow, Alicia Theis and Michael and Mitchell Theis; his six great grandchildren, Bella and Kyler Durkee, Jamison, Owen and Aubrey Theis, and soon to be Davie Leskow; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside Services will be in the summer at Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery in Stillwater.
