HUDSON FALLS – Thelma Esther Drake Butterfield, 104, died Saturday, March 15 at Fort Hudson Nursing Home.
Thelma was born October 29, 1909 in Chestertown, NY and was the daughter of Joseph S. and Esther Oliver Drake. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 61 years, Clyde C. Butterfield; her half-brother, Ray Davis and a grandson, Michael Chappelle. She is survived by her daughter, Charlene B. Harrington of Fort Edward, NY; son, John D. Chappelle and his wife Rebecca of Salisbury, MD and her daughter, Carol T. Rabine of Saratoga Springs, NY.
She also leaves her grandchildren, Terry E. Rabine and his companion Linda Britt of Saratoga Springs, NY; Sandy C. Evins and her husband Joel of Shaker Heights, OH; Laurie Babin of Nashville, TN; Steven Chappelle and his wife Deanna of Baltimore, MD; Geoffrey Harrington of Hudson Falls, NY; Jennifer Rose and her husband, Edward, of Corinth, NY.
She also leaves 14 great grandchildren; Matthew Evins and his wife Katie; Nathan and Zachary Evins; Christopher, Wesley and Sommer Chappelle; Rachel and Daniel Babin; Zachary, Alyssa and Nathan Chappelle; Nolan Rabine and Michael and Mason Rose. She also leaves her special niece, Joan Davis of Glens Falls, NY.
For many years she served as cook manager at Maple Street Elementary School in Hudson Falls. She was a member and Past Regent of Jane McCrea Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. She attended the Hudson Falls Methodist Church and was a member of the Loyal Circle. She was an avid reader up until her death and played bridge until her mid-90s.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Fort Hudson Nursing Home in Fort Edward for their care and support during the four years that Thelma was a resident there. Thanks, also, to Joyce and Earl Bishop and Betty Duel for their faithful visits.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at the Gerald Solomon National Cemetery in Stillwater, NY.
