QUEENSBURY – Joseph “Joe” A. Woutersz, 67, of Wintergreen Road, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at his home, with his loving family by his side.
Born on September 17, 1948 in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of Jeannine (Mullen) Woutersz and the late Alex Woutersz.
For more than 20 years, Joe owned J. Albert & Sons Hardware on South Street in Glens Falls and also worked as a locksmith. His passion was real estate. He owned and managed Hearth & Home Real Estate for eight years before merging with Hunt ERA, where he was the managing broker of the Glens Falls office.
Joe was a long time member of Warren County Association of Realtors. He served on the association’s board of directors, as past chair on the Education and Community Relations Committees and as past president and board member of Warren County Multiple Listing Service. Joe was a certified NYS Trainer, and taught real estate courses at Manfred in Latham and at SUNY Adirondack. He held the GRI, ABR, and CRB designations from the National Association of Realtors. Joe was a long time member of ARCC, Toastmasters, Kiwanis, and BNI. He founded Out of the Ashes (for fire victims) and through this, volunteered for After the Fire, which also supports victims of fires, and has volunteered with the Skating Association for the Blind and Handicapped. Charitable, self-sacrificing, compassionate, merciful, tenderhearted, giving, generous to a fault, are all words used by friends, coworkers, and family to describe him.
Besides his mother, Jeannine Woutersz, Joe is survived by his wife, Elaine (Ballard) Woutersz; his children, Paul Woutersz and his wife, Rebecca, Elisa Burke and her husband, Bruce, Mark Jacox and his fiancé, Michelle Anderson, Kimberly O’Reilly and her husband, Todd and Stephen Jacox and his wife, Tracy; his grandchildren, Cassius Woutersz, Phineas Reilly, Jeremy Burke, Stephen Jacox Jr., Sydney O’Reilly, Samantha Burke, Jacquelyn O’Reilly, Leonard Anderson; his two brothers, David Woutersz and Malcolm Orton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on Saturday, April 9, 2016, from 12 Noon to 2 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
A Celebration of Joe’s life will be on Friday, April 15, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bay Meadows Club, 31Cronin Road in Queensbury.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the C.R. Wood Cancer Center, 102 Park Street, Glens Falls, NY 12801 or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
