HUDSON FALLS – Betty Barbara Winchell, 84, formerly of Mercy Street, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 4 ,2015, at the Fort Hudson Health Care Facility, after a long illness.
Born on May 24, 1930, in Chester, Vermont, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Evelyn (Hall) Breault.
On Saturday, January 29, 1949, she married Stillman Roger Winchell at 10 Delaware Avenue in Hudson Falls. He passed away on May 5, 2008, after 59 wonderful years of marriage.
Betty worked for Native Textiles for over 40 years as a Warper.
She was a lifelong member of the Gospel Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Hudson Falls. Betty was an avid crocheter and knitted hats and mittens for everyone. She was a self taught musician, who could play the banjo, mandolin, accordion and the piano. Betty used her talents for God at church and to entertain her family.
She loved Dachshunds. Betty had at least two at a time. She raised two granddaughters as her own. Betty deeply loved Jesus and her family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Jacklyn Iler and her siblings, Duane Breault, Colleen Breault Johnson, Leonard Breault, Jr. and Stephen Breault.
She is survived by her son, Charles Winchell and his wife, Terry of Glens Falls; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; two sisters, Vivian Hoag Norton of Granville and Mary Joseph of Fort Edward; her four brothers, Kenneth Breault of Georgia, Arthur Breault of Connecticut, Dale Breault of Hartford and Malcolm Breault of Hartford; her sister in law JoAnn Willams of South Glens Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am on Friday at the Gospel Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, 30 LaCrosse St in Hudson Falls, with the Paul Mead, pastor, officiating
Betty will be laid to rest next to her husband at 1:30 on Friday, at the Gerald B.H. Soloman Saratoga National Cemetery, on Duell Road in the town of Stillwater.
