FORT EDWARD – Chester John Spirowski, Sr., 99, went to be with his beloved wife, Betty, on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Slate Valley Center for Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on February 7, 1919, in Hudson Falls, he was the son of the late John and Rose (Midura) Spirowski.
In 1945, he married, Elizabeth J. Fischer, at St. Mary’s Church, in Hudson Falls, with Monsignor Arthur S. Kiffin, officiating. She passed away on November 8, 2011, after 66 years of marriage.
He worked for Scott Paper Company, in Fort Edward, retiring in 1981. After his retirement, Chester loved to make concrete ornaments with his son, John. You could always find Chester on the weekends camping in Warrensburg with Betty, Mary and Maynard. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and spending time with his family. Chester loved to tell stories of years gone by and always said, “They were hard times, but they were good times”.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brother, Walter (Spizowski) Speck, his son, Chester J. Spirowski, Jr. and his granddaughter, Jill Parker Ward.
Survivors include his daughter, Mary Jane Parker and her husband, Maynard of Hudson Falls; his daughter in law, Diane Spirowski; his grandchildren, Maynard “JR” Parker, Jr., Raymond Howard, Jr., Michael (Jo-Lynn) Spirowski, Michele Wade, Cindy (Gary) Sprague, Joann ( Michael) Therrien and Suzanne (Dale) Norton; 13 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; his sister, Frances Speowski of Glens Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be on Saturday, January 26, 2019, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street in Hudson Falls.
Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
The Rite of Committal will be in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the town of Fort Edward.
