Robert J. Jones “Bogus”

Robert J. Jones, known to all as “Bogus”, passed away surrounded by loving family after a brief illness, on September 14, 2018, at the age of 64.
Bogus was born on May 18, 1954 in Albany, New York to John (Jack) and Dorothy (Griner) Jones. He attended St. Mary’s in Hudson Falls and later graduated from Hudson Falls High School in 1972.
Bogus lived every day to it’s fullest and “sowed his oats” when he was young as his father will tell. After high school, he relocated to Miami, Florida to give local law enforcement a break. When all was quiet, he moved back to Hudson Falls, NY and “settled” down. He married Nancy Murphy in January 1979 and soon welcomed his two daughters, Hillary and Abby, whom he named upon their first meeting. After working various jobs to support his growing family, he began his career as correctional officer for the State of New York in 1982.
Throughout his 25-year career in corrections, his friendships with his fellow guards are what kept him going. Whether it was the games they came up with to pass the time, the many trips to Yankee and Giant’s Stadiums or sending anonymous mailings to one another, their brotherhood held strong.
When Bogus wasn’t working you could find him mowing and taking meticulous care of his lawn, watching the Hudson Falls Tigers athletic events, out on his Harley or glued to his ESPN. He also enjoyed the annual vacations to Surfside Beach, South Carolina with his family and friends that were family. Skiing trips to Italy, beach trips to Mexico and Dominican Republic, and later Disney and Universal trips with his granddaughters kept him full of stories right to the end.
After the stroke that couldn’t take him from us in 2011, he fought back to live a full life, eventually riding 20 miles a day on his new recumbent bicycle. His granddaughter Maddie Mae aided in his recovery by singing him back to health with her one hit wonder on You Tube. In true Bogus fashion, he never let his new normal get him down and was sure to practice walking without his cane so he was able to walk his daughter, Abby down the aisle on her wedding day.
Reluctant to tag himself a moniker for his grandfather duties, his “Mighty, Mighty, Quinn” lovingly named him BoBo and for those closest to him, Bogus forever became BoBo. His time before and after school with his Quinny solidified their unbreakable bond. His youngest granddaughter, Vivienne Bo, will carry on his namesake for us all.
His mother, Dorothy Jones, his stepmother, Patricia Marden Jones, his stepbrother, Brent Farnsworth and his mother in law, Jeanne O’Brien Murphy, predeceases him.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy, his daughters, Hillary and Abby and their husbands (the son’s he always wanted), Levi Brewer and James McReynolds. His granddaughters, Madison Mae, Quinn Elizabeth and Vivienne Bo. His father John M. (Jack) Jones, his brother Richard Risman-Jones (Heidi), his sister, Carol Long (Ron), his step sisters, Renee Farnsworth and Brenda McAdams (Sandy), his brother in laws, Brien Murphy (Claire) and Richard Murphy (Kathy), his uncle William Jones (Betty) and many, many, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends may call on Wednesday, September 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main Street, Hudson Falls.
Funeral services will take place the following day at 11 a.m. at the Gospel Lighthouse Assemblies of God Church, 30 La Cross Street, Hudson Falls.
After the funeral, a gathering will be held at the family home.
